Li Xiaoyao and his group were brought to Shen Mu Lin by Sword Saint Dugu and Jiu Jian Xian. Because he was severely injured, Li Xiaoyao was in a deep coma and dreamed of Lin Yueru calling to him, and together they saw his mother, but Li Xiaoyao didn't have time to answer. Suddenly, Lin Yueru disappeared, and when Li Xiaoyao woke up, he found a bloodstain on his chest.

Saint Granny walked over and instructed Li Xiaoyao to drink the medicine. Li Xiaoyao remembered Lin Yueru and Zhao Ling'er, who had just gone through the ordeal with him, so he asked Saint Granny how the two of them were. Saint Granny took Li Xiaoyao to Zhao Ling'er's bedside. Zhao Ling'er was still in a coma, but Saint Granny said her life was not in danger. Li Xiaoyao then thought of Lin Yueru, but Saint Granny didn't say a word.

Under Li Xiaoyao's continuous questioning, Saint Granny led Li Xiaoyao to another room. Lin Yueru lay peacefully with a white cloth covering her face. Saint Granny explained that when Lin Yueru was sent to Shen Mu Lin, her internal organs were already withered. Li Xiaoyao struggled to recall that when the three of them were leaving together, Lin Yueru told them to leave first and she would stay behind to withstand the force of the Demon Locking Pagoda's collapse.

Now seeing that Lin Yueru had passed away, Li Xiaoyao still couldn't accept it. Lin Yueru had accompanied him through his wandering journey, and he also knew Lin Yueru's feelings, but love is so helpless. If it weren't for Zhao Ling'er, he would definitely have been with Lin Yueru, but now everything was too late. After inquiring about the three people's condition, Sword Saint Dugu pleaded with Saint Granny to find a way to save Lin Yueru.

Saint Granny said she could only do her best to keep Lin Yueru's soul from leaving, and even this would be the best outcome. Sword Saint Dugu arranged for Jiu Jian Xian to stay and take care of things, while he returned to Shushan first. Li Xiaoyao frantically chopped wood and ground medicine, trying to numb himself. Jiu Jian Xian comforted Li Xiaoyao, telling him to accept reality. Li Xiaoyao got drunk but was still in a daze.

He walked to Lin Yueru's room but found she was gone. Saint Granny took Li Xiaoyao to another room, where Lin Yueru lay alone on a bamboo board. Li Xiaoyao called out Lin Yueru's name repeatedly. Before, in Shang Shu Mansion, Lin Yueru had asked Li Xiaoyao why he never called her by her name. Li Xiaoyao had vaguely brushed it off at the time, which was actually because he couldn't face his feelings for Lin Yueru.

It was all fate playing tricks. Saint Granny gave Li Xiaoyao the map of Shen Mu Lin and said that deep within Shen Mu Lin, there was a Rakshasa Ghost Cave, where there was a strange insect called a Puppet Worm that could save Lin Yueru's life. Li Xiaoyao agreed without hesitation. Li Xiaoyao walked into the Rakshasa Ghost Cave. It was eerie and chilling. Suddenly, he saw Lin Yueru in an illusion. His thoughts drifted back to the past.

He saw Lin Yueru tied to a tree and went forward to rescue her, but Lin Yueru told him not to follow her anymore. Then he was suddenly back at the martial arts tournament for a spouse, where Li Xiaoyao lost to Lin Yueru, admitted he was not as skilled, and was allowed to leave. Jiu Jian Xian worried about Li Xiaoyao's safety. Saint Granny said the Rakshasa Ghost Cave only causes illusions and would not be fatal.

Li Xiaoyao was indeed lost in the illusions and couldn't escape for a long time. Finally, he took out the jade pendant Lin Yueru had given him and returned to reality. Tang Yu arrived at Shen Mu Lin and, learning that A Nu had already returned to Nanzhao, asked Saint Granny to convey his apologies. Saint Granny asked about Tang Yu's choice. Tang Yu replied that saving common people was an idea instilled by Bai Yue. Saint Granny said that saving common people was too broad; it could be used to do good or to harm the world.
