Sweet Tai Chi Episode 16 Recap
> Sweet Tai Chi Recap
Chen Bing and Yang Ningxue were astonished to see Wei Chu sparring with Feng Piaopiao, realizing she knew Tai Chi. Yang Ningxue, mistakenly believing that Piaopiao was deceiving Wei Chu to learn authentic Tai Chi, just as her grandfather Feng Bingxing had done years ago, impulsively moved to confront Piaopiao. Chen Bing held her back, suggesting Wei Chu might have his own reasons.
Yang Ningxue insisted that such "stealing" of martial arts could not be tolerated again, stating that Feng Bingxing's old debts hadn't been settled and now Piaopiao was repeating the same mistake. She decided to inform the elders, ignoring Chen Bing's plea to first ask Wei Chu if he knew Piaopiao's identity. Yang Ningxue and Chen Bing went to the Yang family, where she informed her uncles that Feng Piaopiao was Feng Bingxing’s granddaughter and was secretly learning Tai Chi.
The uncles were furious, recalling how Feng Bingxing had used deceit to learn Tai Chi from various sects, causing great shame to their authentic Tai Chi. They declared that Feng Bingxing's actions were unforgivable and wondered if his granddaughter intended to do the same. They immediately decided to rally others to settle scores with Feng Bingxing, both for the past and for the new transgression.
Chen Bing intervened, stating that the matter hadn't been fully investigated and asked them to calm down. Yang Ningxue, having already given Feng Bingxing's address to the elders, was eager to monitor the situation. Chen Bing, frustrated by her actions, pointed out that involving the elders would only put Wei Chu in a difficult position, as he and Piaopiao were close.
Yang Ningxue asserted that she was trying to prevent Wei Chu from repeating Wei Min's past mistakes, claiming she would be the "villain" if it meant protecting Wei Chu. Chen Bing eventually managed to contact Wei Chu by phone, alerting him that something had happened to Piaopiao's grandfather. Wei Chu, who was resting with Piaopiao in the woods, immediately informed her, and they rushed to her home.
Upon their arrival, they found Yang Ningxue and the assembled elders, including Yang Shibo, confronting Feng Bingxing. The elders, recalling Feng Bingxing’s past transgressions of secretly learning martial arts, accused him of again allowing his granddaughter to do the same. Feng Bingxing admitted his past mistakes but questioned why, after so many years of reclusion and never leaking any techniques, he was still being pursued.
Chen Bing tried to mediate again, arguing that while Feng Bingxing had indeed stolen martial arts, the "crime of stealing a teacher" was not punishable by death, especially in a modern legal society. Slightly pacified, the elders declared that while they wouldn't demand his life, to ensure the Tai Chi essence of their sects remained uncompromised, Feng Bingxing must publicly cripple his own martial arts. Piaopiao and Wei Chu, still in a taxi, were desperate to reach Feng Bingxing.
Piaopiao was anxious and feared for her grandfather's safety, but Wei Chu reassured her that he would protect them. When they finally arrived, Feng Bingxing had already crippled his martial arts and lay on the ground. Seeing her grandfather in such a vulnerable state, Piaopiao tearfully confronted the sects, accusing them of ganging up on an old man.
She eloquently argued that her grandfather had always taught her that martial arts were for helping the weak and upholding justice, not for sectarian disputes or bullying. She vowed to protect him, even if it meant opposing all of them. Wei Chu stepped in, preventing further conflict. To protect the Feng family, he publicly announced that Feng Piaopiao was his fiancée, declaring her affairs as his own, and by extension, the Wei family's.
This stunned the assembled sects and the instigator, Yang Ningxue. With the situation defused, the Tai Chi sect members, acknowledging the resolution, dispersed, and Chen Bing led a bewildered Yang Ningxue away. After everyone left, Wei Chu quickly checked Feng Bingxing's pulse. While expressing admiration for Feng Bingxing's decision, he learned that Feng Bingxing's injury was not severe and he would recover after a period of recuperation.
Feng Bingxing explained that crippling his martial arts was a definitive way to prevent Piaopiao from being implicated and to end the old feud, and he found peace in his decision. Feng Bingxing then asked if Wei Chu's declaration of Piaopiao as his fiancée was true. Wei Chu admitted it was an expedient measure to resolve the situation, but he affirmed that his feelings for her were genuine.
Deeply moved, Feng Bingxing, who had long approved of Wei Chu, formally entrusted Piaopiao to him. Later, Wei Chu clarified to Piaopiao that the engagement announcement was a temporary solution, primarily to protect her and her grandfather. When she questioned his motives for protecting her, he simply stated it was his duty as her master. He also revealed his main objective in taking her as a disciple: to have her compete and win the National Martial Arts Tournament.
He believed this was the only way to truly break the centuries-old sectarian views within Tai Chi and promote the national art. Piaopiao understood his aspirations, but also brought up the seriousness of marriage. She offered to clarify their relationship after the tournament, but Wei Chu, true to his word, stated that he never retracted what he said, and the clarification was unnecessary. Wei Min, having heard about Wei Chu's public declaration, called him to express her disapproval.
She criticized him for acting impulsively and without careful consideration, stating that such a declaration shamed the Wei family, especially given Feng Bingxing's controversial past and Piaopiao's relation to him. Wei Chu defended Feng Bingxing's self-sacrifice as a sufficient atonement for past wrongs. However, Wei Min, emphasizing Wei Chu's position as the Wei family head and leader of the Tai Chi hidden gate, stressed that his actions affected the family's standing among other sects.
She informed him that the family had decided to convene a meeting with various sect leaders to address the fallout, and Wei Chu was expected to provide a public explanation. Wei Chu agreed to attend and resolve the matter. Elsewhere, the mysterious person, learning that Wei Chu had intervened to stop the confrontation at Feng Bingxing's house, instructed Tan Lin to cause trouble at the Tai Chi system.
Tan Lin was to leak the information that Feng Piaopiao was Feng Bingxing's granddaughter. The mysterious person predicted that Wei Chu would undoubtedly step forward to protect Piaopiao, thereby creating a rift between Wei Chu and the Tai Chi system, further undermining their morale. Distraught by the day's events, Piaopiao confided in her grandfather, expressing her desire to give up martial arts entirely.
Feng Bingxing, with great care, reminded her that all his actions had been for her well-being, acknowledging her exceptional talent, but ultimately reassuring her that he would support any decision she made and would never force her to do anything she disliked. Three days later, Wei Chu was ready for the family meeting.
Despite Wei Min's strong objections, who feared bringing Piaopiao would only exacerbate the controversy and jeopardize Wei Chu's position as head of the Wei family, Wei Chu announced his intention to bring Feng Piaopiao with him to the meeting, assuring his grandmother that he would provide a proper explanation to everyone.
