Summer Again Recap

Episode 1 Recap

As the new school term approached in Xi Hai Town, Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming sought out Lin Nanyi at the Blue Elephant cafe, hoping he would help them with their homework. They also gossiped about a new transfer student, an "excellent ballerina" from Da Cheng City, who was expected to join their class. Lin Nanyi, however, remained unimpressed by the news of a new student.

Tao Zhu, frustrated with their incomplete assignments, complained about their agreed division of labor, stating that while he handled science, Wang Yiming had done nothing for the liberal arts, simply guessing "C" for all objective questions. Lin Nanyi, for his part, revealed that their friend Mi Ya was absent because her boyfriend, Andre, the CEO of a multinational corporation, was on a rare day off and she planned to spend the day on calls with him.

When asked by Wang Yiming why he was traveling to Da Cheng on Saturday, Lin Nanyi briefly mentioned it was to buy goods for Sister Mi Ya. Meanwhile, in Da Cheng City, Tong Xi's mother was resolute in her decision to move them back to their hometown. Despite her reluctance, Tong Xi found herself powerless to object, secretly wishing she wouldn't encounter the "brat" Lin Nanyi there.

Her mind was preoccupied with two upcoming events: the highly anticipated release event of Guru Qing He, a popular new comic artist, and her first planned date with Senior Wei Ze. Tong Xi formulated an elaborate plan to appear compliant for a few days, subtly easing her mother's vigilance. She intended to then sneak back to Da Cheng before the signing event and return to Xi Hai before school started, ensuring she wouldn't miss either important occasion.

Promptly, she purchased a bus ticket to the airport. Unbeknownst to Tong Xi, the esteemed Guru Qing He, whom she so admired, was none other than the "brat" Lin Nanyi.

Around the same time, Lin Nanyi, speaking to his editor Sister Jia Jia on the phone, confirmed his travel plans to Da Cheng for the signing event, declining her offer of a car to the airport as he was familiar with the area and intended to take the bus, even though she had booked a first-class flight for him.

Tong Xi’s father, learning from friends at the local theatre that his daughter and ex-wife had moved back to Xi Hai, rushed to their new residence with a bouquet of freshly picked flowers. Tong Xi's mother, Xiao Hui, however, gave him the cold shoulder, merely instructing Tong Xi to take the flowers upstairs. Tong Xi later asked her father how he knew about their return, as her mother had wanted to keep it secret.

He replied that he heard it from his theatre friends. Her father expressed his joy at their return, noting that Xi Hai hadn't changed much over the years. Tong Xi inquired about his recent activities, and he mentioned he was still diligently writing. She then hinted at a "huge plan" she had for the following day.

The day of the release event arrived, and Tong Xi meticulously laid out her schedule: wake up at 7:20 AM, leave home by 7:40 AM, catch a taxi at 7:50 AM to reach the Xi Hai Bus Station by 8:00 AM, then take a pre-booked bus to the airport, clear security by 9:00 AM, and arrive in Da Cheng in the afternoon.

Her plan was perfect, but her mother’s delayed departure for her new job at the theatre, exacerbated by a phone call about Da Cheng’s corporate regulations, severely threatened Tong Xi's tight schedule. Tong Xi left a note for her mother, stating she was "returning to Da Cheng quickly" and would "be back soon." She noted to herself that her savings only covered an economy class ticket.

In a desperate rush, Tong Xi managed to flag down a taxi, but to her fury, Lin Nanyi got in before her. She angrily accused him of "stealing her cab." At the bus station, Tong Xi was still fuming, wishing ill upon the taxi thief. To her disbelief, she encountered Lin Nanyi again. Enraged, she stomped over and grabbed him, only to realize that he was the "annoying ghost" from her childhood, her supposed fiancé.

A childhood memory flashed through her mind: herself fiercely protecting Lin Nanyi from bullies, proclaiming him her fiancé and vowing to marry him. Tong Xi, horrified by the recognition, tried to flee, but Lin Nanyi caught her. In a chaotic turn of events, while trying to protect Tong Xi from falling, Lin Nanyi stumbled. Both ended up missing their respective flights and instead spent the day at the hospital.

From the hospital, Tong Xi called Senior Wei Ze, apologizing profusely and explaining she couldn't make it to their planned meeting, citing an unexpected situation. She expressed her deep disappointment at missing the event and the opportunity to see him and the new students of the art troupe. Wei Ze kindly suggested they could meet another time. Simultaneously, Lin Nanyi, on the phone with Wang Yiming, informed him that he was in the orthopaedics department.

Tong Xi was furious, blaming Lin Nanyi for everything: missing her trip to Da Cheng, standing up Senior Wei Ze, and most importantly, failing to see Guru Qing He because Lin Nanyi's injury led to the cancellation of Guru Qing He's signing event, thus preventing anyone from seeing his true identity. She declared she never wanted to see him again.

Lin Nanyi, observing her distress, asked why she was so upset to see him, and if she didn’t feel awkward about their past. Tong Xi didn't reply directly, but when he asked her to hold his belongings, she realized she had inadvertently carried his "Steamed bun with brown sugar" with her. He wondered aloud if he was cursed, remembering her childhood declaration.

The next day, Tong Xi's mother continued to be strict about her education and ballet practice, stressing that she must diligently study and train now that they were back. She even criticized Tong Xi's father's "friendship sponsorship" for her trip, calling it "influencing her to commit crimes." Tong Xi, hoping to avoid Lin Nanyi, subtly inquired about the number of high schools in Xi Hai, thinking it would reduce the chance of encountering him.

Her mother, oblivious to Tong Xi's thoughts, merely chided her for her unladylike posture and eating habits. Tong Xi, having not yet received her new school uniform, wore her old Da Cheng uniform to school. On her way, she came across an injured Lin Nanyi and immediately went to his aid, helping him up.

She initially scolded him, assuming he'd been in a fight and lost, but Lin Nanyi quickly clarified that he had merely been rescuing a cat that had gotten its paw entangled in a tree, and the ungrateful animal had scratched him. Tong Xi suggested taking the cat to a vet if there was one in town. She then offered him a band-aid, stating she had an extra one, and left for school. Lin Nanyi touched the band-aid, remarking that she was "such a heavy hitter."

Episode 2 Recap

Tong Xi arrived at Xi Hai High School, greeted by the enthusiastic welcome of her new classmates who were already calling her the "ballerina." To maintain this newfound image, Tong Xi performed a short ballet piece for them. Internally, she was thrilled, having not seen Lin Nanyi in her class and mistakenly believing they were not in the same one, which meant her past embarrassing stories would remain a secret.

Little did she know, Lin Nanyi's seat was directly behind hers, and he had simply been absent on leave that day. Meanwhile, boys from other classes approached Wang Yiming, who was in the same class as Tong Xi, asking for her contact information after a basketball game, but Wang Yiming refused. Later, these boys tried to get Tong Xi's contact from her deskmate, Tao Zhu.

Just then, Xu Ao, the Drama Club president, arrived and shooed the boys away, leaving Tao Zhu quite impressed and grateful as Xu Ao even offered her some squid. After classes, Tong Xi went to practice ballet with Mr. Xu, finding the intensity surprisingly high for her first day.

During her practice, she recognized the studio from her childhood, recalling a memory of a boy showing her a mint garden, which his grandpa had left behind, and inviting her to play there often. She was also relieved that the first public book signing for her idol, Qing He, which she had regretfully missed, had been tacitly rescheduled due to Qing He's injury.

On her first day at the new school, Tong Xi reflected on the extraordinary feeling of being noticed, a sensation she, as an ordinary person with no clear future plans, found both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. She resolved to live up to the "ballerina" image, striving to become a true goddess for her enthusiastic classmates.

She even sent a detailed private message to Qing He, lamenting life's difficulties and wishing for his drawing ability or power to solve her problems, only to be ecstatic when she saw that Qing He had read her message. Upon returning to school, Lin Nanyi saw Tong Xi, and secretly seemed pleased.

Tong Xi, seeing Lin Nanyi, felt a wave of panic, dreading that he might expose her childhood antics, especially when he revealed details of her past and showed off an injured leg, claiming she had pushed him at the station two days prior. In class, Tao Zhu was engrossed in a Qing He comic when the teacher asked for a translation of a classical text. Tong Xi quickly came to Tao Zhu's rescue, providing the translation herself.

Later, when the teacher asked to see Tao Zhu's book, Tong Xi deftly swapped it for an English textbook, earning Tao Zhu praise for her diligence. To show her gratitude, Tao Zhu offered Tong Xi a copy of Qing He's new comic and invited her to the Blue Elephant comic cafe that evening. At the Blue Elephant, Tong Xi was shocked to find Lin Nanyi working there.

He continued to tease her about reading comics instead of Shakespeare and implied she should be careful not to "lose her cover," referring to her earlier claims in class. When Wang Yiming and another classmate, Ke'er, arrived, they suggested a horoscope session. As they discussed Tong Xi's birthplace, Xi Hai Town, and her childhood in Xi Zhao Alley, Lin Nanyi interjected, revealing he knew her as a child and described her as shy and rarely leaving home.

This revelation stunned Wang Yiming and Tao Zhu, who were surprised that Tong Xi had asked them about Lin Nanyi's name earlier. Tong Xi, flustered, tried to downplay their past connection, claiming they were "barely acquainted" and it had been "a long time ago." Annoyed, she confronted Lin Nanyi, telling him not to "talk nonsense" and to treat her like a normal classmate, stating they weren't close.

He retorted, asking why she couldn't pretend to be a goddess after being "common" her whole life. As she left, she refused his offer to walk her home, mocking his injured leg. Later, Mr. Jia announced the upcoming blackboard bulletin contest, noting the class's "losing before the battle" attitude due to Class 5's consistent victories. Mr. Jia then approached Tong Xi, suggesting she participate, believing her background from Da Cheng would bring fresh ideas.

Tong Xi, knowing she was a novice painter, tried to decline, but Mr. Jia insisted on "participation over winning" and asked Lin Nanyi for his opinion. Lin Nanyi, to Tong Xi's dismay, agreed, saying "Tong Xi can handle it." Confronting Lin Nanyi later, Tong Xi accused him of "pushing her into a fire pit," reminding him he used to do all her art homework as a child.

Lin Nanyi feigned ignorance, claiming they weren't close enough for him to know her current skills. Tong Xi accused him of "getting revenge," but then conceded, suggesting they each take a step back and stop being so harsh on each other. However, she firmly stated she wouldn't need his help with drawing.

Episode 3 Recap

Tao Zhu was overjoyed when Xu Ao, who loves grilled squid, invited her to his birthday party on Thursday. She asked Wang Yiming what kind of gifts guys like, but he misunderstood and thought she was asking for him. Realizing she had to figure it out herself, Tao Zhu decided to learn how to grill squid to make a special gift for Xu Ao.

While practicing at a food stall, Wang Yiming, who had just finished a basketball game, spotted her, making the situation awkward. When Tao Zhu brought her homemade grilled squid to Xu Ao's party at Blue Elephant, he was unexpectedly cold and dismissive, which deeply upset her. Wang Yiming, who had followed Tao Zhu to the restaurant, saw her distress and, feeling for her, took the grilled squid from her and started eating it himself.

He criticized Xu Ao for his indifference, remarking that it's the thought that counts, and told Tao Zhu that her cooking skills were good. He noticed she had burned her hand while grilling. Earlier, Tong Xi, determined to make an impressive board poster, asked her friends in the Da Cheng Sisters Group to send her photos of their school's board poster. She planned to use chalkboard paint instead of traditional chalk, a "cool" and innovative approach.

Lin Nanyi offered to help, but Tong Xi staunchly refused, declaring she would rather struggle than accept his assistance, even though she admitted drawing was harder than she expected and that only "Guru Qing He" could draw people perfectly. She also mentioned her admiration for Qing He, describing him as her "prince charming." Lin Nanyi then scoffed at Qing He's comics, calling them simple stories about mischievous boys.

Tong Xi passionately defended Qing He's work, praising its emotional depth and warmth, and shared that she sends him messages daily, considering it a form of "chatting" even without replies. The night before the board poster competition, Tong Xi was troubled by a nightmare where an alternate version of herself and her teachers and classmates ridiculed her board poster, calling it "garbage" and mocking her for her stubborn pride.

Waking up in a panic, she found herself alone in the classroom, overwhelmed with worry. Suddenly, Lin Nanyi appeared with snacks and offered his help again. This time, Tong Xi, at her wit's end, conceded and accepted his help. He began to draw, and Tong Xi was impressed by his skill, commenting that his contouring was much better than hers.

On the day of the board poster competition, Tong Xi presented a beautiful board poster, largely thanks to Lin Nanyi's artistic talent. She explained the concept of nature and environmental protection, highlighting the use of chalkboard paint for a cleaner, more vibrant effect. The class achieved first place, and Tong Xi was lauded as the class's "contributing star." Lin Nanyi, observing from a distance, subtly pointed out that the "drifting leaves" Tong Xi mentioned were actually mint leaves.

To express her gratitude, Tong Xi reluctantly agreed to be Lin Nanyi's "underling" for a week, fulfilling his reasonable requests. Later, at a celebration at Blue Elephant, Wang Yiming blurted out the story of Tao Zhu's rejected gift and her burned hand to Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi. His blunt words made Tao Zhu cry, leading Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi to intervene.

Tao Zhu, feeling foolish, lamented her perceived flaws and wished she could be "as perfect as Tong Xi" so Xu Ao would notice her. Wang Yiming later attempted to apologize, explaining his direct nature, but Tao Zhu angrily called him a "big mouth" and a "worthless oaf" before telling him to get lost. The next day, Wang Yiming brought Tao Zhu a refreshing, nice-smelling burn ointment, which she silently accepted, a gesture that touched her.

During physical education class, Lin Nanyi, pretending to be exhausted, demanded an iced Coke. Tong Xi, now his "underling," went downstairs to buy it. Back in class, Lin Nanyi feigned weakness, claiming he couldn't open the bottle, which Tong Xi opened for him. He then intentionally spilled the Coke on his uniform, tasking Tong Xi with washing it.

That evening, Tong Xi secretly took Lin Nanyi's uniform home, washed it away from her mother's watchful eye, and hung it to dry in her room. Lin Nanyi received a phone call from his editor, Sister Jia Jia, urging him for updates on his new comic. Afterward, recalling Tong Xi's claim of sending daily messages to "Guru Qing He," he checked his own private messages.

To his astonishment, he found a series of daily, ambiguously romantic messages from a persistent fan, including one that read: "You have stolen my heart." He found it difficult to believe these messages could be from Tong Xi.

Episode 4 Recap

Ni Xiao Wan, the class monitor, returned to school after her competition. Her classmates welcomed her back, complimenting her dress and appearance. Ni Xiao Wan introduced herself to Tong Xi, mentioning her recent participation in a literature competition in Beijing and her delayed return. Afterwards, she greeted Lin Nanyi, asking about his injured leg and offering him her first-place prize from the competition, a valuable item.

Lin Nanyi, stating his leg felt better, politely refused the gift, suggesting she keep such a precious award. Ni Xiao Wan insisted he take it precisely because of its value, but Lin Nanyi reiterated his refusal due to its expense and then invited her inside to talk, as his leg was injured and he shouldn't stand. Tong Xi, observing their interaction, felt a pang of jealousy.

She learned from a friend that Lin Nanyi and Ni Xiao Wan had been classmates since middle school and that Ni Xiao Wan was fiercely protective of Lin Nanyi, disliking anyone, even Wang Yiming, getting too close to him. Tong Xi felt that Lin Nanyi should be closer to her, recalling their childhood connection and a "dowry" paid long ago.

Her friend, however, reminded her that she and Lin Nanyi had lost contact for years and that he never responded to her letters. Tong Xi admitted she heard, clearly bothered by the revelation. The friend noted that while Lin Nanyi treated Ni Xiao Wan with politeness, he was generally reserved with everyone. The conversation then shifted to the upcoming sports day, hinting at Ni Xiao Wan's usual prominence.

Later, while Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi were on duty, Ni Xiao Wan's friends offered to help Tong Xi, and Ni Xiao Wan offered to help Lin Nanyi, but both offers were declined. As Ni Xiao Wan left, Tong Xi felt Ni Xiao Wan glared at her, making her uneasy. That night, feeling that Lin Nanyi had become "sharp-tongued" and indifferent to their past, Tong Xi reflected on her one-sided awkwardness.

She found an old photo of them together and, frustrated, decided to bury it, hoping that out of sight would mean out of mind. She also sent a message to Guru Qing He, lamenting her unrequited feelings and mentioning her own "Mentha" story, hoping for news about a new comic and a signing event. Meanwhile, Wang Yiming and Tao Zhu discussed their observations, concluding that Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi shared a special connection.

Wang Yiming pointed out Tong Xi's gestures, like buying drinks for Lin Nanyi and secretly placing his uniform in his drawer, showing unusual care. Tao Zhu added that Lin Nanyi's gaze towards Tong Xi at a previous celebration at the Big Blue Elephant restaurant was filled with "unspeakable banter," hinting at deeper feelings. Recognizing the "unpredictable" situation with Ni Xiao Wan's return, both Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming firmly declared their support for Tong Xi.

As the Spring Sports Day approached, Ni Xiao Wan held a class meeting to discuss their marching formation and slogan. Wang Yiming voiced his boredom with the traditional marching and proposed that Tong Xi perform ballet, arguing it would impress the entire school. Lin Nanyi supported this "good suggestion." Ni Xiao Wan countered, stressing the importance of collective participation and cohesion for the sports day.

After consulting Qin Ke'er, who sided with her, Ni Xiao Wan agreed to let the class vote. It was decided that if Tong Xi received more votes, she would perform ballet, otherwise, they would proceed with the marching formation. Tong Xi also agreed to the vote. In the end, Tong Xi won by a large margin, with Ni Xiao Wan only receiving six votes. Ni Xiao Wan and her close friends were furious about the outcome.

They grumbled about Tong Xi constantly hogging the limelight since the newsboard competition, attributing it to her "ostentatious" nature from a big city. Despite a friend pointing out Ni Xiao Wan's academic excellence, Ni Xiao Wan expressed dismay at their low vote count compared to past "landslide votes." She stopped her friends from complaining further, feigning magnanimity and stating that she would "admit defeat," hoping Tong Xi could manage the task.

Her friends speculated if Lin Nanyi cast the sixth vote for Ni Xiao Wan, but Ni Xiao Wan dismissed the idea when questioned about the handwriting. Later, Tao Zhu confided in Tong Xi that she found Ni Xiao Wan "not truthful," despite her achievements and popularity. Tong Xi pondered if Ni Xiao Wan's point about a team event had merit.

Tao Zhu clarified that for Ni Xiao Wan, marching in formation was often about her shining brightly while others were mere "utility players," urging Tong Xi to perform solo. Tong Xi understood, having felt like a "utility player" herself in Da Cheng when admiring "great masters." To ensure everyone's involvement, Tong Xi proposed a group waltz performance, offering to personally teach those unfamiliar with the dance. Lin Nanyi immediately volunteered, but Tong Xi declined his offer.

Despite his insistence, Lin Nanyi sarcastically asked if his leg injury was the sole reason, suggesting Tong Xi care more for the "goddess" he had voted for (referring to Tong Xi herself). Tong Xi blushed, attributing it to the warm weather. She later decided to include Ni Xiao Wan and Qin Ke'er, though she mentally crossed out Lin Nanyi's name on her list, feeling he "threatened" her.

Tong Xi then received an unsettling phone call from a friend, who informed her that Senior Wei Ze now had a "new White Swan" in the art club, a pretty first-year student for whom he even played piano. The friend warned Tong Xi that Senior Wei Ze might be taken before she could return to Da Cheng.

Alarmed and realizing she had been neglecting Senior Wei Ze, Tong Xi concluded that her only way to meet him was through Guru Qing He's signing event. She messaged Guru Qing He, urging for updates on his new comic and to schedule the signing event. She then called Miss Jia Jia, the executive editor of Aimei Comics, to inquire about the signing event date, learning it was still in planning.

She stressed the fans' anticipation and asked to be notified immediately once details were confirmed. Tong Xi proceeded to assign dance partners, including Tao Zhu with Wang Yiming, Qin Ke'er with Wang Kai, and Han Dong with Ni Xiao Wan. Ni Xiao Wan complained about her partner not being handsome and expressed surprise that Lin Nanyi was absent. Tong Xi explained that Lin Nanyi's leg injury prevented him from participating. During practice, students struggled with the moves.

Ni Xiao Wan and her friends voiced their frustration, claiming the choreography was too complex for non-dancers and difficult to synchronize, causing girls to step on their partners' feet. Despite Tong Xi's attempts to guide them, Ni Xiao Wan deliberately stepped on her partner's foot twice, feigning apologies and claiming to have lost rhythm.

She then declared that Tong Xi's choreography was too complicated for students without a dance background, subtly blaming Tong Xi's origins from a big city for her lack of understanding of their "basic level." She suggested Tong Xi simplify the moves and offered to find someone to help. Concerned about the lack of synchronicity, Tong Xi spoke with her father at the Ocean of Love hawker food stall, expressing her worries.

Her father advised patience, explaining that dancing, like art, takes time to master. He suggested consulting her mother, a former dancer and now theater supervisor, but Tong Xi refused, fearing her mother's disapproval of activities outside ballet and academics. Tong Xi decided to find a solution herself. She spent her evenings sacrificing study time to modify the dance moves, but her efforts were met with continued resistance and manipulation from Ni Xiao Wan.

During another practice session at Ju Xin Office Supplies Wholesaler, Tao Zhu, inspired by seeing Senior Xu Ao, vowed to practice diligently for him, and Tong Xi encouraged her to shine.

Episode 5 Recap

Ni Xiaowan tearfully approached Lin Nanyi, trying to persuade him to be her dance partner for the upcoming performance. She complained about Tong Xi, stating that Tong Xi was very unhappy after Ni Xiaowan accidentally injured her own dance partner. Lin Nanyi initially declined, stating he had too much on his plate. Ni Xiaowan pressed on, claiming Tong Xi always targeted her and had said Ni Xiaowan injured her leg.

She suggested Lin Nanyi could be the substitute, making everyone happy. However, Lin Nanyi defended Tong Xi, saying Tong Xi was not targeting her but was worried about slowing down progress due to time constraints. He promised to consider being a substitute. Ni Xiaowan then asked Lin Nanyi why he had never mentioned Tong Xi before, observing that Tong Xi had left Xi Hai during elementary school and they hadn't even met.

Ni Xiaowan began to express her gratitude for his past help, but Lin Nanyi, uncomfortable with her persistent talk of the past, interrupted her, reminding her they had agreed not to mention it. He then asked her to call him by his full name and excused himself to go upstairs, leaving Ni Xiaowan to wonder if his sudden coldness was because of Tong Xi.

As Tong Xi was teaching the Waltz, she received a call from a friend, who mentioned that Ni Xiaowan (the class monitor) was looking for Lin Nanyi to be a dance partner. Tong Xi, exasperated, said she was swamped with choreography and couldn't believe they couldn't find a male student who could perform three pivot turns. The students found the choreography, especially the three pivot turns, too difficult, and wanted a simpler routine.

Ni Xiaowan seized the opportunity to complain to Mr. Jia, the teacher, highlighting her own lack of a dance partner and the students' struggle with Tong Xi's complex moves. She implied Tong Xi should have arranged a substitute earlier. Mr. Jia acknowledged that students needed practice and synchronization, urging Tong Xi not to feel pressured.

Just as Tong Xi was about to give in and apologize, Lin Nanyi stepped in, making a sarcastic remark about Ni Xiaowan having experience with marching formations. He then proposed they be given five more days, insisting their class should excel with a Waltz performance rather than settling for a marching formation. Mr. Jia agreed, giving them more time.

Later, Ni Xiaowan's friends echoed her frustration, pointing out that Lin Nanyi always seemed to side with Tong Xi, even when he objected to the marching formation that Tong Xi had almost agreed to. They questioned why Lin Nanyi and Ni Xiaowan's good relationship had soured since Tong Xi's return. Tong Xi continued her demanding daily routine, returning home late, but the Waltz training still wasn't yielding ideal results.

Meanwhile, Lin Nanyi secretly recorded the students' dance practice and diligently trained by himself at home. Her mother, initially worried about Tong Xi being absent-minded in class and questioning her late nights, became angry when she found out Tong Xi was teaching Waltz for the school sports meet instead of focusing on her studies. Tong Xi admitted she felt out of her depth, unable to motivate the class.

Her mother then took the video of the students' practice to review and offered her advice. Lin Nanyi's friend, seeing him practice, deduced it was for Tong Xi and asked why he didn't offer his help directly, as Tong Xi must be overwhelmed. Lin Nanyi replied that it wasn't the right time for him to step in personally, but he had already found her a "reinforcement."

Tong Xi's friend then convinced Tong Xi that for the new dance to succeed, she needed Lin Nanyi's help, as there were no other suitable candidates. Tong Xi, after some deliberation, decided to ask him, thinking, "He knows everything about me. Nothing to fear." She called Lin Nanyi, complaining about the heat and asking him to prepare ice water. She noted that the location he shared felt familiar.

Upon arriving, Tong Xi recognized Lin Nanyi's house as the place where they used to climb trees as children. She teased him, asking if he was "hiding a beautiful lady" in his "golden house." Lin Nanyi invited her in, but Tong Xi, eager to practice, insisted they dance outside immediately. As they danced, Tong Xi found herself drawn to his handsome face, momentarily forgetting her resolve to resist his charm.

She scolded herself internally, reminding herself that he represented her "dark history" and she shouldn't be seduced. Tong Xi then brought up a childhood memory, asking why he had called her stupid when he had once promised to marry her. Lin Nanyi was surprised she still remembered. Tong Xi listed several grievances, including her not agreeing to be his "bandit queen" and, most importantly, his failure to see her off when she left Xi Hai.

She declared it was perfectly reasonable for her to be angry because she considered him her best friend, but he hadn't even said goodbye. To make amends, Lin Nanyi promised to dance with her properly. In return, he asked Tong Xi to do him a favor: be his model. Tong Xi agreed to model for him. Lin Nanyi initially tried to guide her pose, but eventually told her to just sit comfortably.

He explained his desire to draw real people after studying plaster statues and sketches for art school, believing that human subjects offered a deeper emotional connection. He said that with good lighting, he could feel her mood and express it accurately in his art. As he spoke, Tong Xi gradually fell asleep. Lin Nanyi, seeing her asleep by the window, gently brushed her hair from her face and gazed at her with affection.

Tong Xi suddenly woke up, and they shared an intense, silent look, creating an ambiguous and intimate atmosphere. Later that night, Tong Xi retrieved some old childhood photos from under a tree. She reflected on her past feelings for Lin Nanyi, believing they were special, but acknowledged that he never came to see her off or replied to her letters, making her feel their precious childhood friendship was discarded like her old Mentha necklace.

Although she still held onto some resentment, she decided it was best to forget these old grievances. She also wondered why Lin Nanyi lived alone but quickly dismissed the thought, deciding they were just ordinary classmates and shouldn't concern themselves with each other. Meanwhile, Lin Nanyi's comic, conceptualized with Tong Xi's image in mind, received high praise from his Editor Jia Jia.

Editor Jia Jia expressed excitement over the new manga's compelling characters and story, saying it made her heart skip a beat. Lin Nanyi assured her he was diligently working on the detail drawings and would speed up the creative process. Editor Jia Jia then asked for the title of the new manga, to which Lin Nanyi replied, "Mentha." During the next Waltz practice, the students still found the choreography challenging. Lin Nanyi then walked in, and Tong Xi introduced him as their new substitute dance partner. Ni Xiaowan watched from the side, visibly consumed by jealousy.

Episode 6 Recap

On the day of the Sports Day, Tong Xi discovered that the dance dresses for her classmates had mysteriously disappeared. She urgently sent people to search everywhere, but they couldn't be found. Feeling helpless, she instructed her classmates to paint their school uniforms with their favorite colors and patterns, and then tie them around their waists so they would resemble skirts when they spun.

Earlier, during a practice session, her classmates expressed how enjoyable dancing had become, especially with the simpler routine that had been implemented over the weekend. Tong Xi modestly admitted she had a "secret helper" – her mother, who was from a "family of dancers" and whose expertise had helped integrate Waltz with elements of Tango, Cha Cha, and even Jazz for a more impressive effect.

Despite the loss of the dance dresses, the performance at the Sports Day was successful, living up to Tong Xi's mother's thoughtful efforts. At the 42nd Xi Hai High School Sports Day, Wang Yiming was crowned the champion of the men's 100-meter race, while Tao Zhu received the Organization Award for the press release. Tong Xi was honored with the Best Leader Award for the opening ceremony.

Seeing Tong Xi shine, Ni Xiaowan felt a pang of jealousy and tried to undermine her right there, but Tong Xi paid her no mind. Tao Zhu's bright presence at the Sports Day also caught Xu Ao's attention, making him regret his previous coldness towards her. He proactively invited her to act in a play with him.

Tao Zhu was deeply touched by the invitation to perform "The Wizard of Oz" and began practicing her lines for the role of Dorothy. When Wang Yiming learned about this, he playfully teased Tao Zhu but secretly felt happy for her, agreeing to help her rehearse her lines. Tong Xi brought a cake to celebrate her father's birthday and inadvertently stumbled upon his novel. Reading it, she was filled with mixed emotions.

She confessed to him that she didn't know what her own dream was, nor whether she truly loved ballet. She asked her father if he ever felt frustrated for pursuing his dream of writing for so many years without success. Her father told her that true passion comes from the heart, and perhaps that sense of joy is the driving force behind pursuing a dream.

He shared an excerpt from his novel about a character named Nuan, who traveled far to find her dream paradise and learned that a dream acts as a guiding light, preventing one from ever losing their way. During their conversation, Lin Nanyi arrived with a gift for Tong Xi’s father. They chatted freely about various topics, from the father's updated manuscript that Lin Nanyi promised to review, to their shared appreciation for artists like Rembrandt.

Their easy rapport almost revealed Lin Nanyi's hidden identity as "Qing He," a renowned comic artist. Tong Xi, noticing their exceptionally close relationship, was puzzled. In response to her questions, her father explained that Lin Nanyi had come to bid her farewell when she moved to Da Cheng as a child but had arrived too late. This explanation cleared up Tong Xi's long-held confusion, making her realize that Lin Nanyi had indeed tried to see her off.

Tong Xi then thanked Lin Nanyi for helping persuade her mother to choreograph their dance. However, she also sensed that he was concealing something from her, particularly about his living situation. She questioned why he had to work multiple jobs and live alone when his parents were employed. Lin Nanyi evasively claimed he was simply "grown up" and his parents provided an allowance, but Tong Xi remained suspicious, feeling both he and her father were hiding things.

Their conversation ended with some playful banter, which her father recorded, remarking how wonderful it was to be young. Shortly after, Lin Nanyi received a call from his editor, informing him that the first chapter of his new comic, "Mint," had been released with excellent reception. He wondered how Tong Xi would react to it. Meanwhile, Tong Xi saw an online post recommending Guru Qing He's new comic, "Mint," and found the title peculiar. Upon looking it up, she was shocked to discover that the comic depicted her, revealing Lin Nanyi's secret to her.

Episode 7 Recap

Tong Xi was thrilled to discover that the female lead of Guru Qing He's new comic, "Mint", looked exactly like her. Though she felt a surge of excitement, she outwardly feigned nonchalance. Her friend excitedly pointed out the striking resemblance, noting how even their side profiles were identical and how the female lead in the comic, like Tong Xi, returns to her hometown and meets a cool street fighter named Qiu Ke.

Despite her inner excitement about resembling Guru Qing He’s perfect female lead, Tong Xi tried to play it cool, dismissing it as a coincidence, saying that many comic characters have similar faces. The annual Black Cat and Butterfly Season was fast approaching, a time when a school legend held that writing a letter to a crush on black cat butterfly paper and mailing it on the first weekend of April would result in a 99% chance of a reply.

Tong Xi, feigning disinterest to her friends, secretly went to the school supermarket to buy the special paper, intending to write to both Guru Qing He and Senior Wei Ze. There, she reluctantly shared two pieces from the last booklet with another student, who then teased her about writing to Xu Ao, another senior, which Tong Xi quickly brushed off as none of his business.

Unbeknownst to Tong Xi, Lin Nanyi saw her secretive trip to buy the black cat paper. Back at school, Ni Xiaowan brazenly handed Lin Nanyi a piece of black cat paper she had queued for, pressuring him to write her a letter. Tong Xi, witnessing this, became visibly upset with Lin Nanyi, though she publicly claimed her anger stemmed from his lack of participation in their group's chemistry assignment and her mother's upcoming visit to the school.

During the computer class, while collecting books for his friends, Lin Nanyi accidentally slipped Tao Zhu’s carefully written black cat letter into Wang Yiming’s book. Discovering the letter, which declared, "You are like a star in the sky, bright and far away. Whereas I'm the person looking up at the star," Wang Yiming was delighted, mistakenly believing Tao Zhu had written it for him. Meanwhile, Tao Zhu frantically searched everywhere for her lost letter.

Later, she confided in a friend that she was no longer looking for it, believing Senior Wei Ze's encouraging words to her in computer class to be a sign from fate. Having had her black cat paper confiscated by her mother, who disapproved of her writing "flowery" love letters and wanted her to focus on her studies and dance academy aspirations, Tong Xi decided to draft her letter to Senior Wei Ze on the computer.

She planned to email it and delete all traces afterward. Initially, she wrote passionate phrases, like "You are the light of my life," echoing the bombastic compliments she often used for Guru Qing He, but then revised it, deciding a more "normal" letter would increase her chances of a reply from Wei Ze. Lin Nanyi messaged Tong Xi, teasing her about writing to Senior Wei Ze.

Tong Xi, in turn, sharply told him to focus on Ni Xiaowan’s affections rather than her own. Unbeknownst to Tong Xi, Ni Xiaowan had taken a photo of Tong Xi's computer screen during class, capturing the unedited, passionate draft of her letter. Later, Ni Xiaowan approached Lin Nanyi at a cafe, once again trying to give him a black cat letter. Lin Nanyi, however, firmly rejected her, telling her to tear it up.

In a fit of anger and revenge, Ni Xiaowan then posted Tong Xi's passionate, unedited draft on the school's Tieba forum. The letter's fervent content, a stark contrast to Tong Xi’s carefully cultivated image as a gentle and graceful "White Swan," threatened to shatter her reputation. Upon seeing the scandalous post, Lin Nanyi, who was working at the cafe, immediately left to find Tong Xi.

He found her at her ballet class, distraught and in tears, terrified of her mother discovering the post and the ensuing social embarrassment. Tong Xi confessed to Lin Nanyi that she had crafted her "White Swan" persona out of vanity, loving the attention and special treatment she received, unlike in her previous school where she was seen as "one of the boys." She feared how she would face everyone if her true, passionate self was exposed.

Lin Nanyi, recalling her lively childhood personality, urged her to embrace her authentic self, noting that her current image, while bringing glory, also brought trouble. He promised to help her resolve the immediate crisis but made her vow to abandon the pretense afterward, warning he wouldn't help if she chose to continue living a lie. True to his word, Lin Nanyi contacted a Tieba administrator, and the post was subsequently removed.

Tong Xi, however, remained anxious about screenshots and her mother. Lin Nanyi reassured her, noting that it was the weekend, so teachers were unlikely to have seen it, and the user who posted it seemed to be a newly registered account. As they discussed, Tong Xi suddenly realized that the "bombastic compliments" in the Tieba post were from her original, unedited draft, confirming that someone had accessed her private work. Meanwhile, Tao Zhu found Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi.

Confronting Tong Xi, Tao Zhu realized that the "Cupid on earth" and "light of my soul" praises in the Tieba post were identical to the famous "bombastic compliments" written by "Qing He's Only Designated Girlfriend" on the Tieba forum. She confronted Tong Xi, initially assuming Tong Xi was merely mimicking the famous fan. Tong Xi calmly admitted, "I am Qing He's Only Designated Girlfriend," much to Tao Zhu's astonishment.

To further prove her true, less-than-elegant self, Tong Xi even used rough language and stated she didn't shave her legs. Tao Zhu, though overwhelmed by this revelation about her friend’s hidden wild side, quickly decided they needed to deal with Wang Yiming, who had a big mouth, before they discussed Tong Xi's double life further via QQ that night.

Episode 8 Recap

To protect Tong Xi's "ballerina" image, Lin Nanyi suggested a strategy: the anonymous poster likely feared exposure, and the letter itself lacked specific evidence against Tong Xi, being merely a clickbait attempt to generate buzz around her "White Swan" persona. By disrupting this narrative, they could control the situation. Tao Zhu then bravely stepped forward, claiming that a love letter she had written for Xu Ao was stolen, stating that if she took the blame, no one would doubt it.

Despite Tong Xi's hesitation to let Tao Zhu take the blame, Lin Nanyi insisted it was the best approach, as the public's excitement stemmed from the contrast between the letter's content and Tong Xi's refined image. Tao Zhu then posted her fabricated story online about her letter being stolen and instructed Lin Nanyi to have the administrator pin it.

Tong Xi was deeply moved by Tao Zhu and Lin Nanyi's unwavering support, realizing that she was loved and accepted regardless of whether she maintained her goddess facade. Later in class, Tao Zhu explained her story, claiming her letter was taken from a book, which the classmates easily believed. They expressed sympathy for Tao Zhu and indignation towards the "treacherous person" who posted it anonymously, calling it a pre-meditated act.

As a token of her gratitude, Tong Xi promised to bring Tao Zhu art books from Guru Qing He’s upcoming signing event. Lin Nanyi, who is secretly Guru Qing He, reviewed Tong Xi’s enthusiastic online messages to him, noting how they sharply contrasted with her usual demeanor. He internally debated whether to reveal his identity to her but decided to keep it a secret for now, preferring to observe her reactions to his comics.

Tao Zhu later confessed to Tong Xi that her friendship wasn't contingent on Tong Xi's ballet prowess, whether she shaved her legs, or her elegance; rather, it was because of the many admirable qualities she saw in Tong Xi.

Just as Tong Xi had agreed to abandon her "Goddess Plan," she received an email from Wei Ze, the most important audience for her plan, informing her that he was returning to Xi Hai Town in a few days to handle his student status. He also mentioned that he was from Xi Hai. Overjoyed and eager to make a good impression, Tong Xi became consumed with dieting to fit into a beautiful dress for their meeting.

This new focus meant she neglected her upcoming quizzes and even the latest updates to "Mint," unknowingly missing Guru Qing He's reply to her messages.

When her classmates discussed how the protagonist of "Mint" strikingly resembled Tong Xi, Tao Zhu openly questioned if Tong Xi had sent selfies to Guru Qing He, a suggestion Tong Xi quickly dismissed, claiming she hadn't even had time to read the latest chapter due to her busy schedule with Mint updates, quizzes, and Wei Ze's return. Meanwhile, Tao Zhu attended Drama Club rehearsals, where her nervousness left her unable to remember her lines.

Xu Ao, the club president, generously offered to practice with her, which, ironically, only made her more anxious. The day Wei Ze was due to arrive, Tong Xi and Tao Zhu concocted a plan to skip class. Tong Xi feigned illness, clutching her stomach and claiming excruciating pain, while Tao Zhu, pretending to be concerned, volunteered to take her to the infirmary. Once safely out of sight in the school bathroom, they changed into their outfits for the reunion.

Despite Tao Zhu's admiration for Tong Xi's courage and freedom, she confided her continued struggle with memorizing lines for the play, even with Xu Ao's help. Upon receiving a message from Wei Ze that he had arrived at Xi Hai Airport and was taking the bus, Tong Xi, having deprived herself of food for several days, rushed to the bus station. Overwhelmed by nerves, she greeted Wei Ze, proudly asking if he noticed her transformation, attributing it all to him. Before he could respond, she fainted, collapsing into his arms. Wei Ze, concerned, immediately took her to the hospital.

Episode 9 Recap

Concerned about Tao Zhu's severe stomach ache earlier that morning, his friends wondered why Tong Xi took her to the hospital but hadn't returned her calls. The friends suspected Lin Nanyi knew something, urging him to reveal it. Lin Nanyi, after a brief exchange, received a phone call and quickly left. Meanwhile, Wei Ze woke up in the hospital, confused about his whereabouts.

Tong Xi explained he had fainted due to low blood sugar and asked if he hadn't been eating well since returning to Xi Hai, adding that the place likely offered nothing good to eat. Tong Xi apologized for troubling him. Wei Ze, however, expressed gratitude for her coming to fetch him, especially with his school registration to complete. He mentioned using her phone to contact a classmate, who should arrive soon.

Wei Ze then informed Tong Xi that he needed to head to the school to finalize his student registration procedures. Though he offered to wait until her classmate arrived, Tong Xi insisted he go about his important business, assuring him they could keep in touch later. After paying the hospital bills, Wei Ze departed. Shortly after, Lin Nanyi arrived at the outpatient clinic, surprised to find Tong Xi there.

He questioned Wei Ze's absence, only to learn Wei Ze had left to handle his registration. Lin Nanyi criticized Wei Ze as "undependable" for abandoning her, but Tong Xi defended him, citing his busy schedule. Unconvinced, Lin Nanyi retorted that a fainted person was surely important. He then expressed disappointment in Tong Xi, accusing her of faking refinement, dieting, skipping classes, and fainting just for Wei Ze, only for him to leave her at the hospital.

Tong Xi countered that she was the one who asked Wei Ze to leave. Just then, Tao Zhu called, urging Tong Xi to return to school before Ni Xiaowan started asking for medical leave slips, which could expose their lie. Despite Lin Nanyi's suggestion that she rest, Tong Xi insisted on returning to avoid being found out. Lin Nanyi then told her to change into her school uniform while he waited outside.

At Xi Hai High School, a teacher commended Wei Ze for his well-rounded achievements, describing him as a future "pride of Xi Zhong" upon his official transfer next semester for the National College Entrance Exam. They noted Tong Xi was also a transfer from Da Cheng, which Wei Ze confirmed, proudly mentioning he was the president of the art club when she auditioned there.

Later, while handling his registration receipt, Wei Ze spotted Ni Xiaowan and asked her to lead him to Tong Xi, as they were classmates. Ni Xiaowan, intrigued, questioned Wei Ze about Tong Xi's past achievements as a talented ballet dancer, international award winner, and even an actress. On the basketball court, Lin Nanyi’s friends observed his agitated demeanor. One friend commented on Tong Xi and Tao Zhu's recent strange behavior, noting both had "Seniors."

When Ni Xiaowan brought Wei Ze to Tong Xi's class, students buzzed about Tong Xi and Wei Ze being a "matchless handsome couple." During P. E. class, Lin Nanyi, seeing Tong Xi and Wei Ze together, impulsively challenged Wei Ze to a one-on-one basketball match, declaring it a game to three points. Lin Nanyi ultimately won. Tong Xi rushed to check on Wei Ze's hand, while Lin Nanyi just smiled.

Annoyed, Tong Xi confronted Lin Nanyi for playing too aggressively, but Wei Ze intervened, stating Lin Nanyi hadn't committed a foul and that physical defense was a normal part of the game. He admitted to enjoying the competitive match and vowed to be better prepared next time. Tong Xi, however, pointed out that Wei Ze wasn't even wearing proper shoes, implying he wasn't at his best.

Afterwards, one of Lin Nanyi's friends teased him for being jealous, noting how Tong Xi had only cheered for Wei Ze. Lin Nanyi denied it, dismissing Wei Ze as merely a "show-off Senior." Later, at a popular hawker food stall, Tong Xi apologized to Wei Ze for Lin Nanyi's behavior. Wei Ze, to her surprise, said he actually admired Lin Nanyi's excellence and enjoyed playing against him, seeing it as an opportunity to meet accomplished people before his transfer.

Despite the stall's popularity, Wei Ze expressed disdain, citing concerns about seafood hygiene and his sensitive stomach. He remarked that Xi Hai seemed to lack "decent restaurants," stating he preferred Izakaya for seafood. Wei Ze openly expressed his reluctance to return to Xi Hai after experiencing Da Cheng, only doing so out of family obligation for the NCEE. Tong Xi explained her return was due to her mother's job transfer, acknowledging an initial period of adjustment that eventually passed.

Wei Ze then questioned if she truly fit in with her local friends, wondering what they even talked about. Tong Xi humorously replied, "how to fish." Determined to change Wei Ze’s perception of Xi Hai, Tong Xi told him about the legendary "blue tears" at Five Rainbow Beach, describing them as bioluminescent organisms and a beautiful natural phenomenon.

Wei Ze, however, was skeptical, citing news reports that the blue tears were unlikely to appear this year and dismissing the "fairy tale" as a children's story, questioning how mere "fireflies in the ocean" could represent Xi Hai. Tong Xi then asked him if he believed in miracles, implying hope for their appearance.

Meanwhile, in the Drama Club, Tao Zhu dramatically recited lines for an audition, which Xu Ao found "full of Fauvism," telling her he would "think about it" before making a decision. Later, Tong Xi shared with Tao Zhu that Wei Ze had agreed to go with her to Five Rainbow Beach to see the blue tears, despite the low probability of them appearing. She hoped for a miracle to show him the "most beautiful Xi Hai."

Tao Zhu jokingly envisioned a romantic scene with hugging and cuddling, but Tong Xi quickly dismissed it, stating Wei Ze was not the mushy type. She confided in Tao Zhu that Wei Ze was different from her initial impression; she realized she didn't know him as well as she thought, and he wasn't entirely the person she had imagined. While still admiring him, she felt confused, attributing it to her earlier fainting spell.

Tao Zhu advised more interaction to foster understanding, but also warned Tong Xi that too much interaction might expose her carefully constructed "goddess" image. Tao Zhu then excitedly showed Tong Xi that her favorite comic, "Mint," had updated, introducing a new handsome character. Tong Xi then discovered that her idol, Guru Qing He, had sent her a private message days ago.

Overjoyed, she immediately replied, apologizing for her late response due to being busy and expressing her desire for more interaction to improve together. Qing He responded, asking if she liked the new update. Tong Xi enthusiastically confirmed she loved it, finding the female protagonist's experiences relatable to her own school life. Qing He then asked if there were adorable girls like her in her life who met an old friend after meeting "Qiu Ke" (a character from his comic).

Tong Xi, playing along, described such a girl who reunited with a long-time ballet partner, and how their relationship gradually improved despite initial misunderstandings. She then asked if she could share more about her life to provide him with inspiration. Qing He welcomed her to do so. Inspired by Tong Xi's plans, Tao Zhu decided to ask Xu Ao to watch the blue tears with her.

However, Xu Ao politely declined via message, citing evening make-up classes due to his busy schedule as a senior in the upcoming semester. Tao Zhu understood, acknowledging that he wouldn't want to waste time on "imaginary things" and envied Tong Xi for having her wish granted while hers was rejected. Later, as Tong Xi was about to leave, dressed up, her mother stopped her, demanding to know where she was going. Tong Xi lied, claiming she was meeting her father.

Her mother grudgingly let her go, complaining about her father's influence. Upon arriving at Five Rainbow Beach, Tong Xi called Wei Ze, apologizing for her delay. Wei Ze, however, informed her of a change of plans and that he had already left for the bus stop.

Episode 10 Recap

Tong Xi rushed to the station to bid farewell to Wei Ze, who showed no remorse for breaking their plans. Instead, he adopted a superior demeanor, advising Tong Xi to seek better opportunities elsewhere rather than remaining in their small city. He acknowledged her transformation into a "white swan," but his compliments brought no joy to Tong Xi. Meanwhile, Ni Xiaowan lingered with Lin Nanyi, speaking ill of Tong Xi, which made Lin Nanyi visibly uncomfortable.

Ni Xiaowan even mentioned hearing that Tong Xi and Wei Ze were planning to see the blue tears together, suggesting a destined relationship between them. Lin Nanyi, clearly perturbed by this news, soon found Tong Xi walking alone by the sea. He teased her about being stood up twice, then offered her solace. Tong Xi confessed her unhappiness about constantly striving for perfection to please Wei Ze.

Lin Nanyi encouraged her to embrace her authentic self, assuring her that she was already likable even without the "white swan" persona, much like the ocean is beautiful regardless of whether it displays the "blue tears" phenomenon. As they chatted, a rare display of blue bioluminescent plankton appeared in the sea, which Tong Xi marveled at as a miracle. Soon after, other classmates arrived, gossiping and taking photos of Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi together.

Upon seeing these photos, Ni Xiaowan, who was home receiving an update from a friend, became enraged with jealousy. Elsewhere, Tao Zhu was stood up by Xu Ao, who had claimed he needed to attend a make-up class. She later saw him happily buying food with Xiao Qing, a junior from the Drama Club who had replaced Tao Zhu in sweeping duties, much to Tao Zhu's dismay.

Wang Yiming, attempting to comfort a dejected Tao Zhu by the sea, inadvertently revealed that he had found and read a "secret letter" she wrote, which he believed was a confession of her feelings for him. Tao Zhu was furious, clarifying that the letter was intended for Xu Ao and she had no romantic interest in Wang Yiming. She chastised him for his self-centered assumptions.

Tong Xi messaged Guru Qing He, recounting her recent experiences and expressing gratitude to her childhood friend, Lin Nanyi, for helping her to accept her true self. She noted feeling less pressure with Lin Nanyi than with Wei Ze. Guru Qing He inquired if Lin Nanyi was merely a good friend, suggesting he might harbor deeper feelings for her, and questioned if she felt similarly.

Tong Xi quickly dismissed the idea, emphatically stating that she and Lin Nanyi were "just good friends, the best friends." Qing He observed that boys typically don't show such dedication to mere friends, implying Lin Nanyi considered her very important, though he conceded it was only his speculation.

Tong Xi then decided to express her gratitude to Lin Nanyi by giving him a signed copy of Qing He's "Early Summer" at his upcoming autograph session, a choice that seemed to surprise Qing He. The next day, Tong Xi arrived at school with a noticeably changed appearance, opting for a more natural style. She shared with Tao Zhu her decision to shed her "goddess" image and publicly reveal her true self.

Ni Xiaowan, noticing Tong Xi's new look, found it quite "abnormal." During an important public session for Mr. Jia's professional title evaluation, with school leaders in attendance, the class was tasked with drawing to interpret ancient poetry. Mr. Jia initially called Ni Xiaowan, the class monitor, to the stage. However, a manipulative Ni Xiaowan instead "recommended" Tong Xi, highlighting her supposed talent based on the class's award-winning blackboard drawing, hoping to humiliate her.

Despite Lin Nanyi's attempt to intervene, Mr. Jia, swayed by the positive remarks about Tong Xi's artistic abilities, allowed her to proceed. As Mr. Jia recited the poem "Fisherman," Tong Xi produced a comically childish drawing. The students erupted in laughter, and Ni Xiaowan reveled in Tong Xi's public embarrassment. After the disastrous public session, Mr. Jia was reprimanded by the school director.

He then spoke privately with a tearful Tong Xi, who was deeply apologetic for potentially jeopardizing his title evaluation. Mr. Jia, however, was more concerned about her inconsistent drawing performance. Tong Xi confessed that she had not drawn the previous blackboard displays and had been pretending to be an artist. Mr. Jia, surprisingly, did not blame her. Meanwhile, other students speculated that Tong Xi had deliberately sabotaged the public session.

Ni Xiaowan openly accused Tong Xi of intentionally ruining the class, emphasizing its importance to Mr. Jia. Lin Nanyi immediately confronted Ni Xiaowan, challenging her to provide a motive for Tong Xi's alleged sabotage. Tao Zhu then stepped in, pointing out that if Tong Xi hadn't acted on purpose, it meant she couldn't draw at all, implying the blackboard displays were indeed faked. Ni Xiaowan seized on this, branding Tong Xi a "liar." Lin Nanyi and Tao Zhu vehemently defended Tong Xi, insisting she was not such a person, just as their teacher intervened to restore order.

Episode 11 Recap

Ni Xiaowan confronted Tong Xi in front of the entire class, accusing her of deliberately ruining the public session because she disliked Ni Xiaowan. Ni Xiaowan also questioned Tong Xi's drawing skills, referencing the impressive blackboard poster and her poor performance in the public session. Tong Xi admitted she didn't know how to draw and that another student had created the blackboard poster for her.

She stated that her drawing during the public session was the best she could do, apologizing but clarifying it wasn't intentional. Tong Xi then confessed to the class that she was the one who wrote the mysterious letter that had been stolen and posted online, for which Tao Zhu had taken the blame.

She revealed her true identity as an ordinary person, explaining that after transferring to the school, she got carried away by everyone's expectations and her own vanity, leading her to "act like a White Swan." She regretted deceiving others and involving her friends, emphasizing that she was unhappy living a false persona. She asserted her desire to return to her true self, stating she would accept any criticism, as long as she could be honest and find joy.

The class reacted with a mix of shock and amusement, with some students eager to reread the mysterious letter. Concerned, Lin Nanyi and his friends rushed to the school canteen, expecting to find Tong Xi dejected. To their surprise, Tong Xi appeared cheerful and relieved. She explained that she no longer had to pretend to be a "White Swan" and could finally be her true self, which brought her immense relief.

She had only seemed not to be eating because she had forgotten her meal card. Ni Xiaowan, however, continued to spread malicious rumors. She told her followers that Tong Xi had lied about winning a major award in Da Cheng, dancing with celebrities, and even being part of the school's art club. These followers then actively spread these false rumors among other students, attempting to isolate Tong Xi.

During a physical education class, one of Ni Xiaowan's followers, Ke'er, found herself in an embarrassing situation when she stained her pants. Tong Xi, overhearing, quietly offered Ke'er a clean pair of her dance pants. Despite Tong Xi's kindness, Ke'er maintained her hostile attitude, telling Tong Xi she still "hated" her. Tong Xi calmly accepted this, stating she didn't care how Ke'er felt, as she had already admitted her mistakes.

Meanwhile, Tao Zhu found herself confronted by students in the Drama Club who were gossiping about Tong Xi's exposed persona and the mysterious letter. Tao Zhu retorted fiercely, dismissing their gossip, though some students seemed to believe Tao Zhu had written the letter to Senior Xu Ao. Later, Tao Zhu tried to ask Senior Xu Ao about a role in the Drama Club, but he vaguely dismissed her, implying there were no suitable roles.

Realizing the futility of her efforts and feeling unappreciated (as implied by a student's comment about her sweeping), Tao Zhu declared she would no longer be sweeping the floors for the club and left. At the Blue Elephant, Tong Xi confided in Lin Nanyi, expressing her belief that Ni Xiaowan had a deeper reason for targeting her beyond simple jealousy.

Lin Nanyi suggested that Ni Xiaowan might feel threatened by Tong Xi, as Ni Xiaowan was once the most popular girl in their class. Tong Xi then questioned Lin Nanyi's close relationship with Ni Xiaowan, to which he explained they were merely former middle school classmates in the same class, not particularly close. Tong Xi playfully claimed to feel closer to him.

Later that evening, Tong Xi messaged Guru Qing He, venting her frustrations about Ni Xiaowan and her perceived closeness to Lin Nanyi. She also recounted a past misunderstanding, revealing that she had written many letters to Lin Nanyi after leaving their hometown, only to be upset by his lack of reply, later realizing he had moved and likely never received them. Lin Nanyi, who is secretly Guru Qing He, was surprised and moved by this revelation.

Lin Nanyi's editor, Sister Jia Jia, called him to confirm a book signing event for Guru Qing He on May 4th in Da Cheng. Lin Nanyi tried to suggest ways to avoid a direct, face-to-face interaction with fans, like being in a "black room" or behind a curtain, but Sister Jia Jia assured him it would be a relaxed bookshop setting. Ni Xiaowan returned home to discover her younger brother using her award-winning pen.

Her mother, displaying clear favoritism, casually dismissed Ni Xiaowan's frustration, telling her it was "just a pen" and she would buy a new one for her. Ni Xiaowan, deeply hurt by her family's dismissive attitude and lack of appreciation for her achievements, told her brother to use the pen, commenting that "no one appreciates it anyway."

As the long weekend approached, Tong Xi excitedly shared her plans to attend Guru Qing He's signing event in Da Cheng, having convinced her mother it was a ballet exhibition. Her friend expressed a wish to join but was tied down by tuition classes. Wei Ze, overhearing, mentioned he was also going to Da Cheng for business. Tong Xi excitedly invited him to the signing event.

Lin Nanyi grew increasingly flustered as he saw Tong Xi preparing various fan banners for Guru Qing He, filled with enthusiastic messages of support. To avoid being recognized as Guru Qing He by Tong Xi, he decided to wear a full Ultraman costume to the signing event. At the signing event in Da Cheng, a visibly nervous Lin Nanyi, still in his Ultraman suit, observed Tong Xi and Wei Ze.

Tong Xi was ecstatic, sharing her excitement and knowledge about Guru Qing He with a rather indifferent Wei Ze. Tong Xi also eagerly explained the concept of "goodies" and fan culture to Wei Ze, even showing him some custom-made fan items. As Tong Xi was busy setting up her banners and buying a scarf, Wei Ze, who was distracted, went to get juice, telling her not to get lost. Lin Nanyi, trapped in his elaborate disguise, watched Tong Xi with a mix of frustration and anxiety.

Episode 12 Recap

Lin Nanyi, disguised as Ultraman, swiftly came to Tong Xi's rescue when she was in danger, injuring his arm in the process. Reflecting on a previous leg injury sustained before an attempted fan meeting and now this new arm injury, he worried about how he would conceal his identity as Guru Qing He. To maintain his disguise, Lin Nanyi, wearing a chicken head, took the stage for the fan meeting and spoke in a deliberate dialect to confuse the audience.

The host, Jia Jia, introduced Guru Qing He, who explained that he was generally shy and had never revealed his identity before, promising to repay his fans with his best work. Tong Xi, initially disappointed by the costume and voice, could not distinguish if the Guru was from the Northeast or Taipei. During the signing session, fans lined up with their requests. Tong Xi, getting a signed comic for Lin Nanyi, asked Qing He to write "Be Happy.

It's good to have you around" for him. She also enthusiastically tried to hug Qing He for a photo, but was politely declined, settling instead for a heart-shaped pose. Later, during the lucky draw, Wei Ze’s number, 25, was called. Despite initially wanting to decline, Tong Xi urged him to go on stage and fulfill her wish to find out what Qing He truly looked like. Wei Ze then made his wish to see Qing He's face.

Reluctantly, Qing He removed his chicken head mask, revealing his true identity to Wei Ze alone. When Tong Xi eagerly asked about Qing He's appearance, Wei Ze ambiguously described him as "familiar" and "friendly," effectively concealing Lin Nanyi's true identity from her. After the fan meeting, Tong Xi led Wei Ze to the bookstore's back exit, believing celebrities use such routes to avoid crowds. She asked Wei Ze to hold her bag while she briefly went to the restroom.

In her absence, Lin Nanyi, still in his Qing He attire, emerged and encountered Wei Ze. Lin Nanyi urged Wei Ze not to reveal his identity to Tong Xi, a request Wei Ze silently honored. When Tong Xi returned, she found Lin Nanyi there, who quickly fabricated a story about having just finished running errands nearby and mistakenly coming to the back door, pretending Qing He had already left.

Later, the group, including Tong Xi’s friends Man Man and Wen Zi, went out for dinner. Tong Xi was subtly encouraged by her friends to sit next to Wei Ze. During the meal, Man Man and Wen Zi expressed their admiration for Xi Hai, describing it as beautiful like "Little Greece." Wei Ze, however, dismissively commented that Xi Hai was merely an undeveloped town not worth a special trip, much to everyone's discomfort.

He further criticized Tong Xi for peeling and eating shrimp with her hands, reminding her it was a restaurant, not a street stall. In stark contrast, Lin Nanyi demonstrated a caring nature, peeling shrimp for Tong Xi and patiently answering her friends' questions about scenic spots in Xi Hai like Maotouqian, Xianren Well, and Windmill Garden, which he said were ideal for artistic photos.

Tong Xi's friends noted Lin Nanyi's kindness, comparing him favorably to Wei Ze, whose behavior had significantly lowered her opinion of him. Tong Xi confided in Tao Zhu that Wei Ze was completely different from what she had imagined, declaring her unwavering dedication to Guru Qing He.

Meanwhile, to cheer up Tao Zhu, who had been feeling down since the May Day holiday, Wang Yiming created a mock fan meeting at home, signing a comic for her as Qing He and giving her a pig keychain. Tong Xi returned to Xi Hai with a haul of Qing He merchandise. She presented Lin Nanyi with a special signed comic that read, "To Lin Nanyi, Be Happy.

It's good to have you around," which she had personally requested from Qing He. Lin Nanyi was overjoyed by this thoughtful gesture, secretly smiling to himself about the irony. When Tao Zhu later saw a photo of Tong Xi with Qing He, she commented on Qing He's similar physique to Lin Nanyi, but Tong Xi swiftly dismissed the idea, continuing to laud Qing He.

Tao Zhu, deciding not to continue with the Drama Club after not being selected for a role, began learning basketball with Wang Yiming. She noticed a significant change in Wang Yiming's demeanor; he was unusually patient and even apologized when he inadvertently started nagging her. This shift surprised Tao Zhu, who questioned if he had done something to feel guilty about. Wang Yiming then, to her further surprise, asked her what it felt like to fall in love.

One day, after class, Tong Xi went to Lin Nanyi's place with a milk tea. Finding his door ajar, she entered and discovered numerous comic drafts scattered around. Recognizing them instantly as Qing He's work, a stunned Tong Xi realized the truth. As Lin Nanyi walked in, Tong Xi confronted him, asking if he was Qing He. He confirmed his identity, leading Tong Xi to let out a surprised yell.

Episode 13 Recap

Tong Xi was deeply hurt, believing Lin Nanyi had deliberately deceived her. Overwhelmed with anger, she threw away his comics, vowing never to see him again and muttering to herself, "out of sight, out of mind." She also muttered how foolish she had been, failing to notice the numerous blatant hints that had been right in front of her.

She thought about a scene from the comic "Mint" where the female lead was drawn to look exactly like her, and recalled Lin Nanyi once pointing out the resemblance. The memory of him offering a band-aid when her elbow was hurt, and his own bloody hand, which he dismissed as an accident from buying goods, now clicked into place, revealing his identity.

Confronting him, Tong Xi accused Lin Nanyi of elaborate deception, demanding how he could claim it wasn't on purpose after hiding such a big secret. Lin Nanyi, for his part, expressed confusion about her reasoning, questioning why she felt the need to pretend, claiming her childhood self was adorable and her true self was inherently likable. When Tong Xi finally pieced it together and asked, "You're Qing He?" he confirmed, "Yes. I'm Qing He."

This admission only fueled her anger, as she pointed out his hypocrisy, telling her to be her true self while he himself was deceitful. After this revelation, Tong Xi began avoiding Lin Nanyi at every turn, finding various excuses to refuse conversation. In class, while the teacher discussed upcoming final exams and subject stream choices, Tong Xi remained distracted.

Her friend, Tao Zi, noticed her unusual behavior, mentioning that Tong Xi hadn't checked the latest "Mint" update and was unresponsive when discussing Guru Qing He. Tong Xi firmly told her not to mention Qing He or comics to her anymore. Later, at the Blue Elephant cafe, Tao Zi called Tong Xi, who claimed to be unwell and heading home, leaving Tao Zi and Wang Yiming perplexed.

Tao Zi suspected Lin Nanyi had angered Tong Xi, while Wang Yiming dramatically speculated that Lin Nanyi might have fallen for someone else. Meanwhile, Ni Xiaowan, who was also at the Blue Elephant, approached Lin Nanyi, requesting a mint lemonade. He politely refused, explaining they were out of fresh mint leaves, and offered her milk tea instead. During their conversation, Ni Xiaowan probed Lin Nanyi about his close relationship with Tong Xi.

He described Tong Xi as kind and friendly, someone he felt comfortable with. This led Ni Xiaowan to a realization: he admired friendly girls. Determined to win his favor, she resolved to be less aggressive and more positive. True to her word, she meticulously prepared detailed notes from previous monthly exams and distributed them to her classmates, including Tong Xi and Tao Zi, much to their astonishment.

She enthusiastically declared her intention to help all classmates with kindness and passion, aiming to raise the class’s average score. She even gave a copy to Lin Nanyi, asking him to give Wang Yiming his. Tong Xi and Tao Zi exchanged wary glances, admitting Ni Xiaowan’s kindness was a bit unsettling. At home, Tong Xi’s thoughts were still consumed by Qing He and her academic future, even contemplating whether to study physics or geography after her math paper.

Her mother arrived home early and informed Tong Xi about her extensive special ballet training planned for the entire summer. Starting after her exams, she would have two ballet classes daily, practice at home morning and night, and continue with Mr. Xu’s lessons even after school reopened, all until she successfully enrolled in a dance academy. Tong Xi, disheartened, lamented that her beautiful summer was over before it even began.

Despite Tong Xi's clear avoidance, Lin Nanyi tried to bridge the gap. He sent her a lengthy message explaining his actions. He admitted to being happy when he first realized she was reading his comics and was his online fan, and that he enjoyed their online conversations, but he became afraid to reveal his true identity. He confessed his error in keeping it a secret and sought a chance to apologize, emphasizing her importance as a friend.

Tong Xi's response was swift and absolute: she blocked him, declaring she didn't need his explanations and intended to focus on her future. Undeterred, Lin Nanyi sent a follow-up message, as Qing He, asking if her past offer to provide life experiences for his "Mint" comic still stood. In class, Lin Nanyi attempted to pass her notes, but Tong Xi wrote back, threatening to report him to the teacher if he continued.

Sensing the lingering tension, Wang Yiming and Tao Zi decided to take matters into their own hands. Tao Zi feigned a severe stomachache, dramatically claiming an endocrine dyscrasia had caused her period to come twice in a month. She asked Tong Xi to cover her cleanup duty, which Tong Xi agreed to do after taking Tao Zi home. Right after, Wang Yiming, citing an important basketball match, insisted Lin Nanyi take his duty without objection.

Once both Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi were assigned to cleanup, Wang Yiming locked the classroom door from the outside, proclaiming their brilliant plan had created a perfect "private world" for the pair to reconcile. However, in their celebratory excitement, Wang Yiming accidentally threw the key away. After a brief argument, they realized the only spare key was at a classmate named Sun Jieling’s house, so they set off to retrieve it.

Trapped inside, Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi were forced to talk. Lin Nanyi again offered to answer all her questions. She asked when he started drawing comics and how he became Qing He. He explained that he initially drew four-panel comics to pass the time when living alone, posting them on Tieba, and they gained unexpected popularity, evolving into a serialized comic called "Early Summer."

He then clarified that the female lead of his current comic, "Mint," was based on Tong Xi, explaining that he added other characters like Qiu Ke to disguise her identity, but promised she'd see familiar faces later in the story. Tong Xi jokingly demanded portrait rights fees, to which he playfully responded she couldn't afford his "expensive face." After some lighthearted banter about his wealth, Lin Nanyi asked if she was still angry.

Tong Xi admitted that while she knew anger was self-punishment, she felt "confused" and "ashamed" recalling her past fan-girl messages and enthusiastic embrace at the signing event. Lin Nanyi, however, gently reassured her, saying he didn't find it shameful, but rather, "cute." He clarified that his enjoyment of their online conversations stemmed from a desire to understand her thoughts and troubles, just like when they were children.

Tong Xi then pointed out that while she, as the "White Swan" in Xi Hai, hadn’t hidden anything from him, he had kept such a significant secret from her. She also confirmed that no one else, not even Wang Yiming or Tao Zi, knew he was Qing He, and questioned his relationship with Ni Xiaowan. Lin Nanyi firmly stated that he and Ni Xiaowan were merely junior high classmates, nothing more.

Tong Xi then pressed him further, reminding him of their shared past as primary school friends and childhood sweethearts, even recalling how she once said she would marry him, causing her to blush. After realizing they could simply exit through the window, Tong Xi told Lin Nanyi that she would adjust her mindset and try to get along with him again, asking him to forget her embarrassing fan messages.

He agreed, and she playfully chased him for not revealing he knew Wang Yiming and Tao Zi had locked them in. Around the same time, Tao Zi encountered former members of her drama club who tried to persuade her to rejoin. She politely declined, stating that her life was currently fulfilling and she had no plans to return.

Later, Tong Xi saw another message from Guru Qing He online, reinforcing the idea that a boy wouldn’t be so attentive to a girl he only considered a friend, subtly suggesting deeper feelings. Tong Xi's heart fluttered, realizing these were the words that had made her feel sweet. Qing He then messaged her directly, noting her new online ID and reminding her of her promise to share her life for his comic.

Though she initially claimed to have nothing to share, Qing He suggested he could draw the story of the amber mint necklace and their childhood history. Tong Xi jokingly demanded copyright fees, which he agreed to discount if she was satisfied with the draft. Tong Xi, delighted, told him she would eagerly await his work and was already looking forward to it.

From that day forward, Lin Nanyi's bicycle could be seen at Tong Xi's house early each morning, taking her to school. After classes, they spent their afternoons at the Blue Elephant cafe and evenings discussing comics. Each day was filled with newfound camaraderie and shared joy. One morning, on the bike, Lin Nanyi asked how she truly felt now that she knew he was Qing He.

Tong Xi playfully responded that since he hadn't told her earlier, he had to treat her to breakfast. He bought her a drink, and though she initially said it was "not bad," she quickly conceded, "It's delicious."

Episode 14 Recap

As summer break began, students made plans for their holidays, but Tong Xi entered an intensive training schedule. During their final class, the teacher announced the exam results. Wang Yiming joked about using Ni Xiaowan's notes to improve his grades and planned to get help from Lin Nanyi with his homework during the break, proudly listing the "benefits" of "referencing" others' work. Lin Nanyi, however, announced he would be working.

Mi Ya mentioned that since Lin Nanyi would be working, she'd be video-calling Andre, while Tong Xi lamented that she had no summer break at all, confirming her mother's strict routine for her ballet training. Ni Xiaowan's home life was challenging due to her parents' patriarchal views. When she showed her excellent grades to her mother, her mother focused only on her brother's improved performance, buying him ribs for his nutrition and asking Ni Xiaowan to continue tutoring him.

Feeling dismissed, Ni Xiaowan called a friend, hoping to have dinner, but her friend had to eat with her own mother. Left alone, Ni Xiaowan sat by the sea, saddened by the contrast in how other parents treated their children. On the first day of the holiday, Tong Xi's mother woke her up early for morning warm-ups, reminding her of the impending dance training.

Lin Nanyi called Tong Xi, inviting her to Blue Elephant to see the comic he finished based on their "Mint Necklace" story, but Tong Xi had to decline, explaining her tight ballet schedule and poor performance. Meanwhile, Lin Nanyi’s foster mother sent him homemade food and money through Mi Ya, hoping he would come home. Mi Ya urged him to reconcile with them, reminding him that despite being his foster parents, they truly loved him.

Lin Nanyi acknowledged it but remained distant, revealing his biological mother still sent him money, though he never used the card. At the beach, Tao Zhu and Jie Ping were discussing Tong Xi's intense ballet training, which kept her from hanging out with them. Tao Zhu admitted she hadn't been to the Drama Club in a long time. Suddenly, Xu Ao approached Tao Zhu, explaining that the Xi Hai Town Arts Festival was approaching.

The Drama Club was preparing to perform "The Wizard of Oz," and he needed someone to be the "backstage coordinator" to handle all non-performance-related tasks. He praised Tao Zhu, saying he trusted her more than anyone else due to her reliability and kindness. Conflicted, Tao Zhu immediately called Tong Xi for advice. Tong Xi found Xu Ao's sudden offer suspicious, noting he hadn't tried to stop Tao Zhu when she left the club.

Tong Xi cautioned her to reconsider, believing Xu Ao was likely using her rather than having a change of heart, as he wasn't the type to self-reflect. Tao Zhu, however, was swayed by Xu Ao's sincerity and the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Arts Festival. Tong Xi, exhausted, eventually fell asleep during the call.

Later, Tong Xi's ballet teacher informed her that her mother had secretly registered her for the Arts Festival and asked the teacher to adapt "La Bayadere" for her. Tong Xi was dismayed, telling her teacher she didn't want to participate and her mother hadn't even consulted her. The teacher advised her to discuss it with her mother.

At home, Tong Xi’s mother weighed her, scolding her for gaining three catties in a week and restricting her diet to only protein, prohibiting cakes or milk tea. Tong Xi tried to ask for a day off from training, saying her legs were swollen, but her mother accused her of wanting to go out for her birthday. Her mother stated that her birthday was her "suffering day" and she should dance well to not disappoint her.

Tong Xi, exasperated, asked if her entire purpose in life was to not disappoint her mother, leading to a heated argument. Unbeknownst to Tong Xi, Lin Nanyi and Mi Ya were discussing her situation, with Mi Ya revealing that Tong Xi's mother, a former ballerina who suffered a career-ending injury, was pushing Tong Xi to fulfill her own unachieved dream. Lin Nanyi recalled Tong Xi always fearing dance as a child.

Later, Lin Nanyi called Tong Xi, interrupting her futile attempts to tell her mother she didn’t want to participate in the Arts Festival. He invited her out for her birthday, which was the next day. Tong Xi, still upset with her mother, decided to skip her dance lesson to assert her feelings. The following day, Lin Nanyi picked her up on his bike, taking her to a secret spot. They were soon joined by Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming.

Tong Xi confided in her friends about her rigorous schedule—waking at 7 AM for practice, sleeping at 10 PM, and dancing constantly. She expressed her frustration that despite her efforts, her mother never seemed satisfied, and she felt unable to make her understand. As they played a game of "cat and mouse," Tong Xi's ballet teacher, unable to reach her, called her mother to report her absence from class.

Episode 15 Recap

Lin Nanyi took Tong Xi to see the Blue Gourami, explaining that these tiny, lively, and adaptable fish, despite being caught as ornamental pets, manage to find joy amidst their sorrow. They remain passionate about life, swimming around as if truly free, even in unsatisfactory environments. Lin Nanyi revealed he brought her there not just to experience that passion, but to encourage her not to be bound by life’s troubles, to live as happily and joyfully as the fish.

Tong Xi understood and thanked him, realizing that even without complete freedom, one could choose a positive mindset. He further emphasized that while they couldn't change their parents or the world, they could change their own outlook, which would help them make the right choices. Remembering they were in the middle of a game, they decided to find Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming. Meanwhile, Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming were hiding.

Wang Yiming was dozing, and Tao Zhu was annoyed, comparing him unfavorably to Xu Ao who was diligently preparing for the Arts Festival. When Tao Zhu revealed that Xu Ao had asked her to return to the Drama Club and she had agreed, Wang Yiming was furious. He accused her of having no backbone and misquoted Socrates, warning her not to make the same mistake twice.

Tao Zhu calmly corrected him, stating that it was Plato who said one could not step in the same river twice. She clarified that she and Xu Ao had sorted out misunderstandings regarding his relationship with another girl and the Drama Club’s casting process, acknowledging her own past lack of ability. Now that things were clear, she no longer wanted to be at odds with Senior Xu Ao.

Despite her explanation, Wang Yiming remained stubborn and angrily pushed her away, calling her "hopeless" and "a disgrace." Later, when Tao Zhu urged him to get on the back of her bicycle, he refused, complaining about discomfort, but also admitting he couldn't ride himself. Tao Zhu, frustrated, told him to be quiet as they rode off, leaving Lin Nanyi and Tong Xi to comment on their strange dynamic.

Later that day, Lin Nanyi and his friends celebrated Tong Xi's birthday at her father's house. Tong Xi was delighted by a cake Lin Nanyi had personally baked for her. After making three wishes – two for her parents' health and their everlasting friendship, and one kept silent – her father presented her with a dress. Tao Zhu gave her a limited edition phone case featuring Guru Qing He. Wang Yiming offered access to his game accounts.

Lin Nanyi then presented two gifts: first, a necklace that Tong Xi had given him as a "dowry" when they were children. He had kept it all these years, and now he asked her to hold onto it until they went to university, then return it to him. His second gift was a collection of comic book drawings, which he revealed were his original works as "Qing He."

He explained that he had drawn and colored these scenes from their childhood to record and preserve those unforgettable memories, jokingly asking her not to charge copyright fees. Upon returning home, Tong Xi was met with her mother's harsh accusations. Her mother criticized her for skipping dance class and lying, dismissing Tong Xi's attempts to explain it was an isolated incident.

She emotionally declared that she had sacrificed everything for Tong Xi, questioning how Tong Xi expected to achieve her ballet dreams if she didn't work hard, and calling her a disappointment just like her father. Tong Xi broke down, tearfully pointing out that it was her birthday, and her mother hadn't even wished her well.

A painful memory surfaced of a younger Tong Xi crying that she didn't want to dance because it hurt, only for her mother to forcefully insist that dancing was her path, not Tong Xi's. Distraught, Tong Xi sought out her dance teacher, Mr. Xu, to confide in him. She expressed her belief that her mother cared more about her ballet progress than her general well-being.

Mr. Xu, however, revealed a profound truth: her mother's care was indeed deep, though she struggled to show it. He disclosed that her mother had not moved back to Xi Hai for a job transfer, but had given up a good job to persuade him to teach Tong Xi, eventually making Tong Xi his only student due to her persistence.

He advised Tong Xi that her mother was not unreasonable, just had an "obsession with dance," and believed that with more mutual understanding, things would not be as bad as she thought. Mr. Xu then gave Tong Xi a belated birthday gift – a custom-made comic titled "Angelic Ballet" – that her mother had sent to the studio the day before.

Reflecting on Mr. Xu's words and the comic depicting scenes from her mother's dancing career and their shared history, Tong Xi was deeply moved. She realized her mother, a talented dancer whose dreams were cut short by a leg injury, saw performing on stage as a deeply personal and unresolved issue. Later, at the Blue Elephant, Ni Xiaowan was acting like a hostess, helping Lin Nanyi serve customers, much to the annoyance of Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming.

When Tong Xi arrived, Lin Nanyi warmly greeted her. Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming quickly explained to Tong Xi that Ni Xiaowan had volunteered to help, not been asked by Lin Nanyi. However, seeing Lin Nanyi's attention to Tong Xi, Ni Xiaowan, along with her friend, became visibly upset. Ni Xiaowan haughtily announced that Tong Xi could help Lin Nanyi instead and abruptly left.

Ni Xiaowan's friend complained about Lin Nanyi's politeness towards Tong Xi and expressed concern about Tong Xi trying to steal the limelight at the upcoming Xi Hai Arts Festival. Tong Xi, moved by the revelations and the comic from her mother, told Lin Nanyi that she had decided to participate in the Arts Festival to give her mother a surprise and not disappoint her.

She explained she had been practicing all summer and wanted to try to stand on stage, noting that the preliminary selection was coming soon. Tong Xi then hurried off to get home before her mother finished work. Back at the Drama Club, Tao Zhu was cheerfully performing various logistical tasks. During a rehearsal for the Xi Hai Arts Festival, a team member suffered from chronic appendicitis and was unable to perform.

Xu Ao, the club president, was worried about finding a replacement for the upcoming audition. He then instructed another member, Zhang Kai, to take the injured team member to the infirmary, and told Tao Zhu to stay and prepare to perform. Tao Zhu, initially surprised, was finally getting her chance to be on stage as a substitute.

At the Xi Hai Arts Festival audition, Tong Xi and a friend were also present, with Tong Xi's friend reassuring her about her internal recommendation for the Arts Festival. Tao Zhu, playing the Tin Man in "The Wizard of Oz," delivered a poignant monologue about longing for a heart, knowing love, singing to the world, and being with the one she loved, concluding that her heart was finally "broken." Her emotional performance deeply moved Wang Yiming, who watched from the audience. After the performance, Tao Zhu bowed to the judges and audience.

Episode 16 Recap

Xu Ao deliberately brought Tao Zhu back into the Drama Club to provoke his girlfriend, Xiao Qing, effectively using Tao Zhu as a mere tool. Behind Tao Zhu's back, Xiao Qing openly disparaged her, calling her "pompous, stupid, moonstruck, and low class." Xu Ao then admitted he indeed brought Tao Zhu back to "provoke" Xiao Qing, confirming his manipulative intent.

He further revealed that he had given all of Tao Zhu's lines to Xiao Qing and viewed Tao Zhu's role as the Tin Man as an opportunity to "pretend to be crazy and stupid," thereby adding a unique feature to their version of "The Wizard of Oz". Tao Zhu, having overheard their conversation, confronted them directly. She expressed her deep disappointment in Xu Ao, whom she had previously admired and diligently assisted without question, only to be betrayed.

Xiao Qing tried to dismiss Tao Zhu's accusations as a misunderstanding regarding "performance details." Tao Zhu then listed their insults and accusations, revealing how they had called her "pompous and stupid," tricked her into a stooge role, and used her to provoke Xiao Qing. She accused Xu Ao of making the best use of people. A friend, later identified as Wang Yiming, defended Tao Zhu, expressing shame on behalf of Xu Ao and Xiao Qing.

Xiao Qing defensively told them not to be so aggressive. Tao Zhu, asserting herself, declared that while she is nice, it doesn't mean she can be bullied or laughed at, emphasizing that playing a stooge doesn't make her a joke. Feeling her contributions were unappreciated and her dignity violated, she announced her immediate withdrawal from the Drama Club.

After Tao Zhu's departure, still dressed in her costume, she expressed her anger at Xu Ao's treatment by throwing away drinks Wang Yiming had bought for the drama club members. She firmly stated her self-esteem and questioned why Xu Ao treated her like a fool. Wang Yiming, witnessing Tao Zhu's distress, went to confront Xu Ao privately and returned with visible injuries to his face. Tao Zhu, concerned for Wang Yiming, then took him to apologize to Xu Ao.

Wang Yiming offered a reluctant apology for hitting him, but Xu Ao was completely unrepentant. He mocked Wang Yiming with a "Meteor Garden" reference and then chastised Tao Zhu for causing significant losses to the drama club by walking out, to which Tao Zhu countered that her role was insignificant anyway. When Tao Zhu confronted him about his previous insults, Xu Ao brazenly denied them, calling it "slander."

He then aggressively asserted his authority as president and senior, claiming he could criticize anyone, and taunted Wang Yiming for supposedly acting tough only to return to "apologise like a toady" and "hiding behind a girl." Incensed by Xu Ao's continued insults, particularly towards Wang Yiming, Tao Zhu warned him to "watch your mouth," declaring, "Only I can bully him. As for others, stop dreaming!"

She then kicked Xu Ao in his private parts, to which Xu Ao retaliated by ordering his friends to "beat her up." Afterward, Wang Yiming worried if Xu Ao would report them to the teachers, fearing consequences like being punished. Tao Zhu confidently declared that Xu Ao wouldn't dare, and Wang Yiming added that he wouldn't leave Xu Ao any evidence.

She then gently cleaned a cut on Wang Yiming's face, to which he playfully complained about her lack of conscience, having been injured for her sake. She then asked if her performance was "handsome," which Wang Yiming affirmed, adding that Tao Zhu was also very handsome. They then went to get milk tea together. Meanwhile, after class, Tong Xi, exhausted from daily dance practice and her mother's "cold stares," visited Lin Nanyi.

She expressed her weariness and desire for everything to end quickly. Lin Nanyi then presented her with a pair of ballet shoes as a gift, hoping it would "restore her to full health." Tong Xi was thrilled but explained that new shoes are hard and require extensive breaking in before they can be used for dancing, so she would cherish them instead. While they were talking, Ni Xiaowan happened to walk by, overhearing their conversation.

She claimed she was just "passing by" to "borrow a book" from the Blue Elephant, but a pang of jealousy was evident as she watched them. Later at home, Ni Xiaowan discovered her mother had retrieved a discarded dance skirt that Ni Xiaowan had secretly thrown away from the trash.

Ni Xiaowan was horrified and tried to discard it again, but her mother explained her intention to repurpose the "good material" into small purses to sell, even suggesting Ni Xiaowan keep one for herself, which she vehemently refused. Feeling overwhelmed, Ni Xiaowan ran out of the house, lamenting why Tong Xi seemed to get everything so easily while she struggled, wishing only for a "better life." This incident intensified her resentment towards Tong Xi.

On the day of the Arts Festival, Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming arrived early to secure good seats, equipped with banners (Wang Yiming had a pink one, which he found "a little weird" for himself, and Tao Zhu had a blue one). They decided against going backstage to avoid disturbing Tong Xi, but planned to cheer loudly for her, practicing the chant, "Tong Xi, Tong Xi, best in the world!" Meanwhile, Lin Nanyi was with a nervous Tong Xi backstage.

This was her first formal ballet performance, and her mother was in the audience. Lin Nanyi reassured her, comparing dancing to painting, where natural flow comes from being in sync with the rhythm. As a staff member called Tong Xi for makeup, Lin Nanyi encouraged her to relax, promising to wait in the audience and telling her not to be scared. Tong Xi wondered if a good performance would make her mother happier.

Separately, Tong Xi's father arrived at the venue with flowers and asked the class monitor if he could sit in the designated Xi Hai High School section, requesting the monitor to inform Tong Xi of his presence. Ni Xiaowan, under the pretense of concern, entered Tong Xi's dressing room with a bowl of porridge, insisting she eat it.

Despite Tong Xi's repeated refusals, Ni Xiaowan persisted, then "accidentally" spilled the porridge all over Tong Xi's original ballet shoes, rendering them unusable. Tong Xi, realizing the malicious intent, calmly told Ni Xiaowan to leave, stating she would handle it herself. With her original shoes ruined, Tong Xi was forced to wear the new, stiff ballet shoes gifted by Lin Nanyi. On stage, the unyielding shoes caused her to stumble and fall during her "La Bayadere" ballet solo.

Despite the setback, Tong Xi refused to give up. Drawing strength from her mother's unfulfilled dream of performing on stage and Lin Nanyi's encouragement, she bravely removed the new shoes and completed her entire performance barefoot, her toes aching. As soon as her dance concluded, Lin Nanyi rushed onto the stage, carried her off, and took her towards the infirmary, leaving Ni Xiaowan seething with frustration.

On the way to the infirmary, Tong Xi commented on their dramatic exit, feeling like they were "making an idol drama." She recounted Ni Xiaowan's deliberate act of spilling porridge on her old shoes, expressing gratitude for Lin Nanyi's new pair which allowed her to perform.

She reflected that Ni Xiaowan "wasn't like this" when they first met, with Lin Nanyi noting that "people change," but Tong Xi decided to let the matter go, relieved that "the most important thing" hadn't been lost. During their conversation, Lin Nanyi attempted to confess his feelings to Tong Xi, but was interrupted by a phone call from Tong Xi's father.

At the hospital, Tong Xi's mother immediately scolded her for her sprained ankle, criticizing her carelessness during a "simple movement" in "La Bayadere" and expressing concern about how she would dance during the "100 days" of recovery, implying Tong Xi would become a failure like her. Tong Xi's father tried to intervene, but her mother continued to berate Tong Xi, accusing her of being sixteen or seventeen with "no plan," acting "impulsively," and being unable to "do anything well."

She then lashed out at Tong Xi's father, stating that she raised Tong Xi alone and would not spoil her, fearing Tong Xi would end up "a failure like me" or "useless like you." Hurt by her mother's selfish remarks, Tong Xi confronted her, explaining that she had initially been happy about her mother's birthday gift, believing it showed underlying care despite the strictness.

However, she now realized her mother only cared about ballet and the fulfillment of her own dreams through Tong Xi, not Tong Xi's actual pain or fatigue. Feeling that she could never satisfy her mother because she was never truly treated as a daughter, Tong Xi declared, "I don't want your love." She then angrily walked out of the hospital alone, despite her father and Lin Nanyi's attempts to stop her.

Tong Xi's father called Lin Nanyi, who promised to search for her. Lin Nanyi then called Tao Zhu, asking if Tong Xi had contacted her, and continued his search for Tong Xi.

Episode 17 Recap

After an argument with her mother, Tong Xi ran to Lin Nanyi's doorstep. Concerned, Lin Nanyi chided her for being out late, reminding her of the dangers and her injured leg. Tong Xi, feeling misunderstood, retorted that his house was dark and mosquito-ridden, and she didn't know when he would return. Lin Nanyi quickly apologized for his haste, and they eventually went to the seaside to watch the sunrise, sharing their thoughts.

Tong Xi, lamenting her "miserable" life after losing her dance shoes, being forced into ballet, and now a cloudy sunrise, expressed her belief that her mother wouldn't truly worry about her, only her injury and her ballet career. Meanwhile, Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming discussed Tong Xi's situation, wondering if her mother would finally stop pushing her to dance, acknowledging the "White Swan" legacy.

Wang Yiming also pondered Lin Nanyi's seemingly unusual circumstances of living and working alone at such a young age, leading them to speculate about his parents. The next morning, Tong Xi packed her belongings, resolving to move to her father's house. She told her mother directly that she no longer wanted to pursue ballet.

Despite her mother's visible distress and tears, Tong Xi firmly stated it was a serious decision, not a tantrum, and she intended to listen to her heart and finally experience a free summer like other children. Seeing her daughter leave with her luggage, Tong Xi's mother was heartbroken.

Now living with her father, Tong Xi embraced her newfound freedom, indulging in previously forbidden foods like ice cream daily to make up for years of restrictions and enjoying a completely flexible schedule. During this time, Tong Xi's mother arranged a meeting with her ballet teacher. The teacher, already sensing the situation after Tong Xi's classes were suspended, explained that Tong Xi had confessed her reluctance to dance early on.

He revealed that Tong Xi persevered through intense training for the Arts Festival primarily because she learned her mother had moved back for her and had seen a special gift her mother gave her. He concluded that Tong Xi was dancing for her mother, not for herself. The teacher emphasized that true passion for dance cannot be forced and is far more crucial than talent or technique.

Reflecting on his words and recalling Tong Xi's past pleas, her mother finally decided to stop pressuring her into ballet, vowing to let her pursue her own happiness. Later, at a seafood dinner at her father's house, Tong Xi received a text message from her mother. The message expressed her mother's change of heart, agreeing to let Tong Xi quit ballet and affirming that her happiness was paramount.

Tong Xi was ecstatic and shared the good news with her friends, who celebrated her "victory." After her friends left, Tong Xi's father gently suggested she return home to her mother, who was now alone, and bring some of the packed seafood as a gesture of reconciliation. Tong Xi returned home to find her mother removing ballet-related items from their house. She inquired about her favorite winged dance shoes, relieved to hear her mother hadn't discarded them.

They shared the seafood her father had packed, and the mother and daughter reconciled, their relationship mended. Separately, Lin Nanyi received a month's salary and two separate payments for school fees, from "her" and his adoptive parents, indicating financial support from various sources. Tong Xi then messaged Guru Qing He, sharing her joy about the reconciliation and her mother's acceptance. She affirmed that even without ballet, she would find her own goals and dreams and strive for them.

Her mother later asked what Tong Xi wanted for dinner and suggested inviting her father to join them. Tong Xi acknowledged that finding her dream would require time and thought. Later, Wei Ze contacted Tong Xi, asking for Lin Nanyi's contact information for a favor. Meanwhile, Wang Yiming was with friends, making light of a Tieba user named Xiao Bei who imitated Guru Qing He's drawings, noting the drawings were silly but interesting.

Wang Yiming was later caught by his friends trying to copy history answers for a geography assignment. The conversation turned to future academic paths, with Tong Xi admitting she hadn't decided between arts or science, still unsure of her future aspirations. Wang Yiming encouraged her to live in the moment and suggested they all attend his last basketball game before school reopened. Soon after, while Tong Xi and Tao Zhu were out for ice cream, Sun Jieping's phone was snatched.

Wang Yiming heroically chased the thief, retrieving the phone by throwing a basketball at him. Sun Jieping was visibly impressed by his actions. Wang Yiming offered her safety advice, suggesting she walk on the opposite side of the sidewalk to spot potential threats, despite her pointing out that it would be against traffic. Finally, Lin Nanyi took Tong Xi on a trip to Sheng City.

He revealed it was to visit Xiao Bei, the Tieba user who admired Guru Qing He's drawings, who was now seriously ill and facing surgery. Inside the hospital, Lin Nanyi, as Guru Qing He, signed a book for Xiao Bei and encouraged him. Xiao Bei asked him to sign another book for his mother, who had been tirelessly caring for him. Xiao Bei's mother expressed her gratitude, noting how happy Xiao Bei was to meet them. Lin Nanyi then sat with Xiao Bei and began to teach him how to draw, while Xiao Bei eagerly asked what Tong Xi would teach him.

Episode 18 Recap

Tong Xi taught ballet to Xiao Bei while Lin Nanyi captured their graceful movements on canvas. Later, on their way back, Tong Xi fell asleep on Lin Nanyi, creating a tender and intimate moment. At Wang Yiming's basketball game, Sun Jieping and her friend arrived to cheer him on. Earlier, Sun Jieping had playfully asked Wang Yiming to pick up a ball, to which he had retorted about her own legs, before grumbling and picking it up for her.

She confidently declared Wang Yiming the best small forward in the basketball club, much to her friend's agreement. Tao Zhu, however, grew visibly uncomfortable observing their interaction and soon left the court, feeling unsettled. Later, Tao Zhu asked Wang Yiming when he started playing and if he had a coach, to which Wang Yiming attributed his skill to natural talent before excusing himself.

Sun Jieping then asked Tao Zhu if he could teach her basketball, and he readily agreed, suggesting they get something to eat first. As the new semester began, Tong Xi's mother brought her glutinous rice balls for supper, a treat from her father, and discussed Tong Xi's decision to pursue the arts stream, offering her full support.

On the first day of school, Lin Nanyi showed his affection by queuing for over an hour to buy Tong Xi her favorite oyster cakes from Xi Zhao Lane, which deeply touched her. Their friends teased Lin Nanyi for his thoughtfulness. Their teacher announced a school-organized Community Day activity where students would help fishermen dig clams. This was mandatory for students applying for poverty allowance, while others could volunteer.

Tong Xi, having never experienced sea-foraging despite growing up by the sea, was very excited to try it. Tao Zhu, Lin Nanyi, and Wang Yiming decided to sign up with her, agreeing it would be a last group activity before class streaming. Tao Zhu jokingly told Wang Yiming to "go with Sun Jieping instead," but Wang Yiming insisted he would join his friends.

Lin Nanyi also committed to joining the group, stating he would participate for his friends before class streaming separated them. Meanwhile, Ni Xiaowan's father insisted she apply for the poverty allowance, which had increased significantly by 50%. He was frustrated by her reluctance, reminding her of his struggles for every cent and asking if her dignity was worth more than the money, noting that his work as a fisherman was not shameful.

Ni Xiaowan, worried about her image among classmates, argued that her family wasn't that poor and she feared being looked down upon. Her mother tried to calm the situation, suggesting the money could be saved for college tuition.

Ni Xiaowan secretly nurtured a facade of being from a well-off family, boasting about a cousin studying at a key school in Da Cheng City, an aunt there who sent her study materials, and a one-on-one tutor her father arranged in Da Cheng. Alone, she mused on how many lies she had told to maintain her "perfect person" image and how she would keep them up. Overwhelmed, she eventually tore up the poverty application form.

Later, Lin Nanyi coincidentally saw Ni Xiaowan's torn application form. He tried to comfort her, telling her not to be ashamed, as it was "nothing." However, Ni Xiaowan felt he didn't understand her situation. Tong Xi witnessed this interaction and felt a pang of jealousy. That evening, Lin Nanyi informed Tong Xi that Mint's new single volume had been printed and promised to share the sample copy with her as soon as it arrived.

The next day, during class, Ni Xiaowan feigned a stomachache to leave the classroom. Her father, furious that she had torn up the application, arrived at the school gate to submit it himself. Ni Xiaowan frantically rushed out to stop him, pleading for him not to embarrass her at school. Her father, however, was resolute, arguing that there was nothing shameful about their situation and that if she cared about dignity, she shouldn't rely on family money.

Lin Nanyi, passing by, intervened, offering Ni Xiaowan his bank card and telling her to use the money as a loan to give her parents an explanation, rather than applying for the allowance. Ni Xiaowan, recalling his similar kindness in junior high, thanked him but initially refused. She then emotionally leaned on him, asking him to stay with her for a moment.

Tong Xi, on her way to collect the sample copy of Mint's new single volume, witnessed this intimate scene. Overwhelmed by emotion, she threw the necklace Lin Nanyi had given her and ran off in tears. Lin Nanyi tried to follow, but she was too upset to listen, asking if he couldn't tell her about Ni Xiaowan.

Tao Zhu found Tong Xi and tried to comfort her, saying it must be a misunderstanding and reminding her of Lin Nanyi's recent kind gesture with the oyster cakes. Tong Xi, however, expressed her frustration, comparing Lin Nanyi's secretive behavior to Wang Yiming's reluctance to share information since becoming friends with Sun Jieping.

During the weekend clam digging activity, Ni Xiaowan approached Lin Nanyi, thanking him for inviting her to the group chat, which allowed her to participate without officially being identified as a needy student. Lin Nanyi reassured her that many students were there voluntarily and no one would judge her. Ni Xiaowan, however, still feared gossip and wished for class streaming to happen quickly so her situation would be unknown.

Meanwhile, Sun Jieping and Wang Yiming were seen happily digging clams together, with Sun Jieping excitedly showing Wang Yiming a small crab she caught. This sight further angered Tong Xi and Tao Zhu. As the activity concluded, Wang Yiming suggested to Sun Jieping that they should play basketball together again if the opportunity arose.

Episode 19 Recap

Ni Xiaowan approached Tong Xi, claiming that Tong Xi harbored prejudices against her and lacked trust. Tong Xi denied any such prejudice, asserting that they simply didn't get along. Ni Xiaowan clarified her intention, explaining that Lin Nanyi was merely assisting her with a secret matter, affirming their close friendship, and hoping Tong Xi wouldn't misunderstand.

Tong Xi, however, asserted that Lin Nanyi was just one of her many friends and there was no need for them to report their interactions. Later, Lin Nanyi attempted to apologize to Tong Xi, but she ignored him. During their interaction, the necklace Lin Nanyi had given Tong Xi accidentally fell out and was picked up by Ni Xiaowan. Meanwhile, Ni Xiaowan's father prepared to draw up his fishing net by the sea.

He had initially planned to go despite a student event happening there, intending to "make his daughter look good," a decision his wife had questioned, as she had already submitted Ni Xiaowan's application form. Tong Xi offered to help him. During their conversation, Ni Xiaowan's father mistook Tong Xi for a needy student participating in clam digging for grant aid, praising the activity as a way to get tuition waivers.

Tong Xi gently corrected him, explaining it was a charity event open to all students. Overhearing this, Ni Xiaowan, who was nearby, quickly claimed to feel unwell and left the beach. Back at home, Tong Xi's father cooked a delicious seafood feast from the clams Tong Xi had gathered for Tong Xi and her mother. The family enjoyed the meal, and Tong Xi expressed her happiness, wishing they could eat together every day.

The next day, news spread rapidly in class that Ni Xiaowan had applied for grant aid for needy students, exposing her carefully crafted image as a wealthy "goddess." Her close friends felt betrayed and publicly humiliated, having previously promoted her false image. As Tao Zhu and Tong Xi discussed the matter, with Tong Xi expressing empathy for Ni Xiaowan, seeing parallels to her own past vanity, Ni Xiaowan overheard their conversation.

Enraged, she confronted Tong Xi, knocking a book from her hand and accusing her of leaking the information. Tong Xi calmly denied the accusation, stating she had no interest in gossiping about others' private matters. Driven by vanity, Ni Xiaowan then produced the necklace Lin Nanyi had given to Tong Xi, threatening to destroy it. Lin Nanyi quickly pursued Ni Xiaowan as she fled home.

There, he discovered Ni Xiaowan's mother repurposing a dancing dress into handicraft items, an observation that provided a new layer of understanding to Ni Xiaowan's struggles. Confronted by Lin Nanyi, Ni Xiaowan confessed to her malicious actions: stealing the dancing dress, anonymously posting Tong Xi's black cat butterfly love letter to Wei Ze online, and deliberately embarrassing Tong Xi during a public session by making her draw, even admitting to sabotaging Tong Xi's dance shoes before the Arts Festival.

She admitted her actions stemmed from deep-seated jealousy, explaining that ever since Tong Xi's return, all attention, especially Lin Nanyi's, had shifted to her. She felt that despite her own hard work, she was always overshadowed, unlike Tong Xi who seemed to possess "plot armour." Lin Nanyi then revealed that the secret about her grant aid application was inadvertently disclosed by her father while he was intoxicated. He then retrieved the necklace.

Following a heated argument with her father, Ni Xiaowan ran away from home. Her classmates, including Tao Zhu, immediately went out to search for her. Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi also joined the search at the beach. After some time, Tong Xi suggested Lin Nanyi call Ni Xiaowan from his phone, believing Ni Xiaowan was deliberately rejecting calls from her family. Ni Xiaowan answered.

Tong Xi then sent Lin Nanyi away to get drinks, allowing her to speak with Ni Xiaowan alone. Tong Xi acknowledged that she didn't particularly like Ni Xiaowan either, and proposed it was time to straighten things out. She confronted Ni Xiaowan about her past misdeeds, including the public session and the dancing shoes, stating she knew all along but chose not to engage.

Ni Xiaowan accused Tong Xi of acting like a saint and failing to understand her situation, feeling she had nothing but exams, unlike Tong Xi who had friends, family, and Lin Nanyi. The two girls had a brief physical altercation. Tong Xi shared her own experience of running away from home after a fight with her mother, reminding Ni Xiaowan that she too had faced struggles.

She also acknowledged Ni Xiaowan's diligence and excellence, assuring her that her circumstances didn't diminish her abilities. Tong Xi encouraged Ni Xiaowan, telling her she wasn't a supporting character but simply hadn't found her true stage, which might be "higher, further, and better." Moved by Tong Xi's words, Ni Xiaowan pondered if she could truly find her own stage. Tong Xi reassured her that she wasn't her opponent, nor did she wish to be.

However, Ni Xiaowan insisted they would inevitably become rivals because of Lin Nanyi, a sentiment Tong Xi acknowledged. Shortly after, Ni Xiaowan's mother arrived to pick her up. Ni Xiaowan thanked Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi before leaving with her mother.

Episode 20 Recap

As class re-shuffling was imminent, the students exchanged alumni books as mementos. Tong Xi led by giving one to Ni Xiaowan, who was touched to tears. The classmates took their last group photo before the split, cherishing the messages in their alumni books. Sun Jieping personally wrote a love letter to Wang Yiming, which left Tao Zhu feeling upset.

Tong Xi felt there was something inexplicably bizarre about Wang Yiming and Sun Jieping's new development and discussed it with Lin Nanyi. Lin Nanyi revealed his intention to incorporate Wang Yiming's story into his comic, "Mint," which might extend its publication. Tong Xi expressed her wish for "Mint" to continue forever, just like their own story. Lin Nanyi reassured her that, regardless of "Mint's" fate, their story would never end.

Initially, Tong Xi struggled to adapt to life after the class re-shuffling. However, she was relieved that Mr. Jia remained their homeroom teacher, making the new class feel more familiar. Even more fortunately, Tao Zhu and Lin Nanyi were still in her class, preventing her from feeling completely isolated. Meanwhile, Wang Yiming and Sun Jieping were in the same class, but their interactions were limited to online chats.

Wang Yiming admitted he felt too shy to ask Sun Jieping out alone, contrasting it with how easily he used to hang out with Tao Zhu, whom he jokingly called "not a lady," much to Tao Zhu's chagrin. Later, Wei Ze invited Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi to dinner. While at the restaurant, fans flocked to Lin Nanyi asking for autographs.

A news report had just been exposed, revealing photographs of Guru Qing He visiting a young ill fan, Xiao Bei. Wei Ze, who had known Lin Nanyi's identity during a previous fan signing, had referred to him as Guru Qing He. Upon seeing the news and photos, Tao Zhu, who was elsewhere, realized that Guru Qing He was, in fact, Lin Nanyi and immediately called Tong Xi.

Mi Ya, the owner of Blue Elephant, later confirmed she had known Lin Nanyi's secret identity because he often drew comics at her shop. Even Lin Nanyi's parents were surprised when his mother saw the news and recognized her son. Overnight, Lin Nanyi became a celebrity at school. His classmates, including Tao Zhu, who now identified as a "Mom Fan," queued up to get his autograph.

Ni Xiaowan, reflecting on her own past desire to be a graceful ballerina and Tong Xi's dream of being a beloved campus goddess, marveled that the truly radiant person turned out to be Lin Nanyi. The constant attention from students surrounding Lin Nanyi during meals caused significant disruption for Tong Xi and her friends. Simultaneously, the Blue Elephant café experienced a surge in popularity, requiring advance reservations due to its association with Guru Qing He.

As the National Day holiday approached, the friends gathered to discuss their plans, but Lin Nanyi's newfound fame meant he had a packed schedule. He received a call about an interview and a promotional event during the holiday, preventing him from joining them. Lin Nanyi apologized to Tong Xi. That evening, Tong Xi encountered Wei Ze, who was heading to a tuition class. She confided in him, expressing her mixed feelings.

While she was happy for Lin Nanyi, she also felt a sense of loss and worried about the growing distance between them. She felt conflicted, wanting everyone to appreciate his talent but also wishing she could keep their unique connection private. Wei Ze, although admitting he didn't fully understand, advised her to communicate openly with Lin Nanyi. Tong Xi then asked Wei Ze if he still disliked the school.

He confessed he was still not fully accustomed to it, but with only a year left, and having found friends like her, things had become a little better. Later, Lin Nanyi spoke on the phone, confirming his identity as Qing He to his father, adding that he believed Tong Xi was unaware. Tong Xi then approached him, admitting her feelings of being lost and how the increasing number of people around him made her feel they were drifting further apart.

She articulated her internal conflict: wanting him to be loved by all, yet also wishing to keep him hidden. Lin Nanyi understood her feelings but playfully reminded her of her unique connection to him, referencing a past "betrothal gift" joke, suggesting her bond was different from other fans. He reassured her that the public's fleeting curiosity would eventually subside, emphasizing that genuine fans cared more about his work than his appearance.

Tong Xi then expressed her fear of not being good enough and falling behind him, especially since she hadn't yet discovered her own future path. However, she quickly realized that instead of blaming him for his excellence, she should strive to catch up. As the day ended, Ni Xiaowan suggested Tong Xi plant mint, as it's known to repel mosquitoes. Tong Xi thanked her.

Episode 21 Recap

Wang Yiming, guided by Tao Zhu, debated whether to ask Sun Jieping out for dinner. Tao Zhu, impatient with his hesitation, urged him to simply text her: "Can I take you out for dinner?" Wang Yiming sent the message, and to his surprise, Sun Jieping agreed to meet that afternoon at the square. At the Blue Elephant cafe, Tong Xi noticed Tao Zhu's mood and jokingly asked if the new drink was "hundred-year-old vinegar," implying Tao Zhu was jealous.

Tao Zhu denied it, claiming she was tired of Wang Yiming constantly bothering her and was happy someone was "finally going to take him away." Tong Xi persisted, suggesting Tao Zhu might have developed "unique feelings for Wang Yiming" over the years and had "felt a stir," but Tao Zhu adamantly refused to admit it. During their date, Sun Jieping tried to let Wang Yiming choose what to eat, but he insisted she decide.

Sun Jieping took a restroom break and called Tao Zhu for advice. Tao Zhu told her Wang Yiming liked grilled seafood and fried stinky tofu, but crucially warned her not to give him any dairy products, as he would get diarrhea within three minutes. However, Sun Jieping did not hear the last part of Tao Zhu's warning.

Deciding to be more formal for their first date, Sun Jieping brought Wang Yiming to a restaurant and offered him her favorite dessert, which was made with pure milk. Shortly after eating it, Wang Yiming was forced to rush to the restroom. Later, Wang Yiming called Tao Zhu from the hospital, where he was on a drip. He lamented his parents' absence and the difficulty of using the restroom with one hand.

He asked Tao Zhu to bring him food, declaring her "the most important person" to him and "mankind's best friend." He admitted to accidentally calling Sun Jieping by Tao Zhu's name multiple times during the date, which was "especially awkward." Despite her exasperation, Tao Zhu agreed to bring him small steamed buns and stinky tofu. Back at the cafe, Tong Xi confronted Tao Zhu, noting her distress over Wang Yiming and Sun Jieping's date.

Tong Xi pointed out that Tao Zhu was clearly upset but still gave them advice. Earlier, Tao Zhu had been distracted and accidentally broke a cup. Earlier, Tong Xi had spoken with Mi Ya, revealing she still hadn't figured out what she wanted to do, even after talking to Lin Nanyi. Mi Ya shared her dream of marrying Andre, explaining that a desired pursuit must be "happy," provide a "sense of accomplishment," and be "full of challenges."

She suggested Tong Xi consider things she "loved and hated at the same time," like ballet or even Lin Nanyi, implying they might be "ill-fated relationships." Tong Xi admitted that these two things indeed made her feel both love and hate. Meanwhile, Guru Qing He participated in a pre-recorded "Lindong Icon Interview." He shared that his path to comic drawing was unexpected, starting with "four-panel comics" to pass time and connect with other enthusiasts.

He expressed that his comics, like "Early Summer," aim to convey "some longing for the world, for emotions," highlighting a son's "reliance and care for his mother." After the interview, Lin Nanyi's birth mother approached him, praising his talent after reading his comics. She offered to transfer him to the Academy of Fine Arts Affiliated High School for future studies or overseas opportunities. Lin Nanyi politely declined.

His mother expressed regret for giving him away when he was young due to difficulties, stating her desire to "make it up to you." Lin Nanyi firmly replied that he didn't need her to make up for anything and simply wanted to live his life well now, before leaving to return to Xi Hai. That night, Lin Nanyi remained awake, troubled by his birth mother's words.

He received a text from Tong Xi, informing him that she would be helping her mother take photos at her workplace the next day. The following morning, Lin Nanyi, looking fatigued from insomnia, met with someone who handed him a drawing and a letter from Xiao Bei. This person had first tried to contact Tong Xi, but she was in class.

Lin Nanyi learned that Xiao Bei was recovering well and that Xiao Bei's mother apologized for any trouble caused by her article. Lin Nanyi dismissed her concerns, conveying his regards and noting Xiao Bei's happiness. Tong Xi accompanied her mother to the Xi Hai Theatre to film material for a provincial ballet company's upcoming performance for the National Day Golden Week.

Her mother, stressed by work, had initially planned to do it herself, but Tong Xi insisted on helping, noting her own past ballet experience and camera skills. At the theatre, Tong Xi explained to the dance instructor, Mr. Xu, that she wanted "more natural and relaxed" shots of the dancers, not just stage performances. The instructor understood and suggested an improvised ballet session.

As Tong Xi filmed, she was deeply moved, recalling a past conversation with Lin Nanyi where she confessed that ballet was her mother's dream, not hers, and she didn't know her own dream yet. Later, Tong Xi's mother watched the video her colleague, Mr. Xu, showed her. He remarked that Tong Xi "really surprised me" and "when she danced with heart, she looked a lot like you back then, it was captivating."

When Tong Xi returned home, she told Lin Nanyi how "happy" she felt while filming, unlike how she usually felt at home. Lin Nanyi then showed her Xiao Bei's drawing and letter. In the letter, Xiao Bei thanked them for visiting, saying he was "not so afraid anymore" of surgery and wished to get well to learn drawing with "Brother Qing He" and watch "Sister Tong Xi dance ballet," crediting them with giving him "courage."

Lin Nanyi then played a special pre-recorded message from his interview, dedicated to Tong Xi. He spoke about his passion for drawing, saying, "passion itself is the greatest meaning." He encouraged her to pursue her dreams without fear, assuring her that he would "always be with you until you find the passion that belongs to you." Tong Xi was deeply touched by his words.

Finally, after reviewing the photos and videos Tong Xi had shot, her mother praised their quality and Tong Xi's dancing, saying she was "as good as how I was back then." Tong Xi, having found joy in dancing again, then asked her mother if she could "continue to study ballet with Mr. Xu." Her mother, overcome with emotion, ecstatically agreed, shouting, "Yes. Absolutely! Absolutely!" Tong Xi then put on the dance shoes Lin Nanyi had given her, having found her path.

Episode 22 Recap

The exam results were announced, showing that Lin Nanyi and Tong Xi had both made it into the top five of their grade, while Tao Zhu had improved her ranking by ten spots. Tao Zhu, excited by her progress, and Tong Xi decided to go check the official ranking list. On their way, they encountered Wei Ze, a senior in Grade 12 who was once again ranked first, and Ni Xiaowan, who was second in Grade 11.

Ni Xiaowan complimented Wei Ze, and he offered her his Grade 11 math notes, mentioning that his teachers had new methods that might help her with her math, which she acknowledged was her weaker subject. After they left, Tao Zhu remarked on the impressive aura of the two academic stars, adding that they seemed a much better match than Tong Xi and Wei Ze ever were, a comment Tong Xi quickly brushed off as an old story.

As discussions about the upcoming parents' meeting began, Tao Zhu expressed indifference about who would attend for her. Later, Wang Yiming asked Tong Xi about her parents' attendance. Tong Xi hoped both her parents would come to see her achievements. Wang Yiming, in turn, joked about his parents' reactions to his grades, though he boasted about having a guaranteed job at a top-500 company and an offer from a sports university.

Sun Jieping then approached them, greeting Tao Zhu, who quickly excused herself, stating she had only been discussing Wang Yiming's grades. Sun Jieping then asked Wang Yiming to walk her home and offered to tutor him, expressing concern over his declining grades and urging him to focus less on basketball. She also inquired about his university plans. Separately, Ni Xiaowan discussed her academic struggles with another girl, admitting her grades had slipped since she moved to the science class.

She shared that she used to dread her parents attending school meetings, ashamed of them. However, she now wished they would come to see her efforts and truly understand her life at school, hoping they would support her aspirations. The other girl, impressed by Ni Xiaowan's newfound confidence and positivity, assured her that her parents would undoubtedly be proud of her one day.

Lin Nanyi called his adoptive father, asking if he or his adoptive mother could attend the parents' meeting. His adoptive father agreed, then discussed with his adoptive mother whether Lin Nanyi knew his biological mother would be there. His adoptive mother admitted she hadn't told him yet, recalling a past incident where Lin Nanyi became so angry after his biological mother appeared unannounced that he moved out.

She explained her plan to have the biological mother speak with Mr. Jia privately first, hoping to understand the situation better before involving Lin Nanyi, believing that as biological mother and son, they could eventually reconcile. At school, Tong Xi and Tao Zhu were busy preparing for the parents' meeting, with Tao Zhu teasing Tong Xi about her minimal effort.

When Tong Xi mentioned her mother was coming and asked Tao Zhu to help, Tao Zhu playfully suggested it was "time to meet the mother-in-law," hinting at Lin Nanyi's adoptive mother, whom she evidently adored. Tong Xi quickly dismissed the joke, urging her to focus on work. Soon after, Lin Nanyi's adoptive father arrived with Lin Nanyi's biological mother to meet Mr. Jia. Lin Nanyi walked in unexpectedly and was furious to see his biological mother.

His adoptive father revealed she was there to discuss transferring him to Nan Hai High School. Lin Nanyi vehemently refused, stating he would not transfer and demanded to be left alone. He angrily accused his biological mother of abandoning him in the past and now trying to dictate his life without his consent. Despite her attempts to explain, Lin Nanyi walked out, declaring he didn't need her in his life.

His adoptive mother tried to stop him, then apologized to Mr. Jia. Tong Xi, having overheard the argument, rushed out to find Lin Nanyi, complaining that her legs hurt. He told her to go back, wanting to be alone, but she pressed him, expressing concern and reminding him of his promise to hide nothing from her. He then revealed, "She's my birth mother."

Later, Mr. Jia found Lin Nanyi and spoke with him, acknowledging his family situation and how Lin Nanyi had been living alone, for which Mr. Jia apologized. Lin Nanyi calmly stated he was used to it. Mr. Jia, while validating Lin Nanyi's feelings, suggested giving his biological mother a chance to talk things through, believing clarity was better than ongoing confusion. Lin Nanyi appeared to consider his words before returning to class.

At the "Blue Elephant" café, Wang Yiming anxiously asked Mi Ya about Lin Nanyi's situation. Mi Ya confirmed she knew some details but felt it was Lin Nanyi's place to share them. Wang Yiming expressed frustration that Lin Nanyi always kept things from him. Tong Xi interjected, telling Wang Yiming to calm down. Wang Yiming then noticed Mi Ya's sadness, and she revealed her boyfriend, Andre, couldn't visit her this month because his private jet's documents had expired.

Wang Yiming’s attempt to comfort her with poetry only made things worse, and Tong Xi told him to be quiet. Meanwhile, Tong Xi was having trouble focusing in her dance class, prompting her teacher, Mr. Xu, to notice her distracted state. Lin Nanyi's biological mother contacted Tong Xi, asking for her help.

She wanted Tong Xi to persuade Lin Nanyi to transfer to Nan Hai High School to pursue professional art training, arguing that his emotions should not overshadow his future. Tong Xi firmly refused, highlighting the mother's prolonged absence from Lin Nanyi's life and his self-reliance, earning money through part-time jobs and art sales, while her bank card remained untouched.

The biological mother explained that she was young and struggling after Lin Nanyi's father died, unable to find work with a child, and didn't want him to suffer with her. She expressed deep regret for her past actions, seeing Lin Nanyi's coldness as deserved punishment, but reiterated her hope that he would prioritize his future.

Looking at Lin Nanyi's comic, "Early Summer," Tong Xi realized it depicted a mischievous boy troubling his mother, leading her to understand that the comic represented Lin Nanyi's unspoken wishes for family warmth. This insight prompted Tong Xi to reflect on her own mother. Her mother had just praised her for her good grades and focus. Tong Xi then asked her mother if it had been difficult raising her alone when they first moved to Da Cheng.

Her mother acknowledged it was challenging, especially if Tong Xi had been younger, but praised her as a naughty yet obedient child. Tong Xi, emotional, promised to be more obedient. Later, Tong Xi sent a message to Lin Nanyi, assuring him that she would respect any choice he made, stand by him unconditionally, and always be there for him. Meanwhile, Lin Nanyi had a vivid dream.

As he was getting ready to meet Tong Xi, his adoptive father stopped him, revealing that he had another mother who was now at the gate, wanting him back. In the dream, Lin Nanyi asked if his adoptive parents no longer wanted him, to which his adoptive father replied that his biological mother could offer him a better life. A voice then told him not to go with her, reminding him she had abandoned him.

Lin Nanyi was left conflicted, repeating, "But she is mum." Tong Xi, receiving no reply from Lin Nanyi, grew worried, fearing he had disappeared. She frantically called and messaged him, then rushed to his house, stumbling and falling on the way. Lin Nanyi found her, tending to her injured leg. He gently chided her for being careless, explaining he had simply fallen asleep and had a long dream.

She reassured him that dreams aren't real and shouldn't be taken to heart. He then confided in her that this wasn't the first time his biological mother had appeared unexpectedly, trying to control his life and convince his adoptive parents that she knew what was best, pushing to take him away. When Tong Xi asked if he hated her, he confessed he didn't know but definitely didn't want to see her, before offering to get her breakfast.

Later, Tao Zhu and Wang Yiming discussed Lin Nanyi's situation, surprised by the dramatic revelations. Wang Yiming wondered if Lin Nanyi would go with his biological mother, but Tao Zhu believed he wouldn't, sensing he had cut ties with his family. Wang Yiming, feeling sympathetic, declared he wouldn't let the "evil woman" take his friend.

Tao Zhu suggested they focus on making Lin Nanyi's upcoming birthday special to cheer him up, and they began brainstorming gift ideas, with Wang Yiming suggesting "natural paint." Wang Yiming confided in Tao Zhu about feeling drained by Sun Jieping, explaining that forming a connection or re-explaining things to new people was tiring. He praised Tao Zhu for understanding him effortlessly, unlike Sun Jieping, to whom he would have to rehash all the details of his friendship with Lin Nanyi.

As he was speaking, Sun Jieping arrived, asking why Wang Yiming hadn't responded to her messages and inviting him to a bookstore. Tao Zhu, feeling uncomfortable, quickly excused herself. Moments later, Wang Yiming sent an urgent text to Tao Zhu, asking her to call him with a fake emergency as he was stuck at a dessert place with Sun Jieping.

Tao Zhu called him, publicly scolding him for constantly needing her help with his own problems, a call Sun Jieping overheard. Tao Zhu later told Tong Xi that she couldn't join her for homework at "Blue Elephant" because Wang Yiming was out with Sun Jieping. Tong Xi, instead, decided to meet Lin Nanyi to talk. When they met, Lin Nanyi had finished packing.

Tong Xi asked him if he would consider going home to talk with his adoptive parents before making any final decisions, offering to accompany him. He asked if she wanted him to reconcile with his biological mother, but Tong Xi clarified that while she would support any decision he made, her true wish was for him to reconcile with himself. Lin Nanyi then went to his adoptive parents' home, greeting them warmly. He looked at a mint plant they had been tending, and they proudly noted how well it was growing.

Episode 23 Recap

Following Tong Xi's persuasion, Lin Nanyi decided to go home and have a heartfelt conversation with his adoptive parents. He thanked Tong Xi for her support before heading inside, while she went for a walk on the beach. Lin Nanyi's adoptive parents prepared a large table of dishes for him. They expressed how much they missed him and how he had been avoiding them, making them feel sad.

His adoptive mother explained that his birth mother had been compelled to leave him years ago and was now showing her care in her own ways. After dinner, his adoptive father handed him a box, suggesting it would offer new insights into his birth mother. Inside, Lin Nanyi found letters from his birth mother, filled with loving inquiries about his well-being, his exams, and "the little girl who is his good friend," referring to Tong Xi.

She also wished him a happy birthday. That night, Lin Nanyi, accompanied by Tong Xi, read through the letters from his birth mother, which were filled with love. He felt deeply moved but also confused. Tong Xi gently probed if his feelings had changed, to which he admitted he was still unsure. He reminisced about how she always helped him clarify his thoughts. Tong Xi assured him she would continue to support him.

Lin Nanyi then shared a revelation: he realized why Tong Xi hadn't seen him off when he first left Xi Hai years ago. It was because his birth mother had returned to Xi Hai around that time, attempting to take him away, and he had been reeling from the shock of learning his true parentage. Tong Xi apologized for having blamed him previously and reaffirmed her commitment to always be by his side as his best friend.

Meanwhile, while Wang Yiming and Sun Jieping were at a night market, they encountered Xu Ao. Sun Jieping instantly shifted all blame to Wang Yiming, stating she only bumped into Xu Ao because Wang Yiming was "pulling her and fooling around." This greatly disappointed Wang Yiming. Xu Ao further provoked Wang Yiming, questioning the whereabouts of his "junior apprentice," likely a reference to Tao Zhu. Just then, Tao Zhu arrived with her bicycle.

She immediately confronted Xu Ao, scolding him and making him leave. Tao Zhu reassured Wang Yiming that he wasn't hit, then playfully asserted, "Only I can bully you. Others cannot." Following this incident, Wang Yiming realized his true feelings. He told Sun Jieping that he felt unhappy and burdened when he was with her, especially when she tried to cheer him up, unlike how he felt with Tao Zi. He declared that they should return to being ordinary classmates.

Sun Jieping understood and said goodbye, promising not to bother him again. Later, Wang Yiming asked Tao Zhu to teach him to ride a bicycle. As she tried to instruct him, he comically failed, constantly braking and falling. Tao Zhu called him "stupid" for his antics, which prompted Wang Yiming to reveal he was only pretending. He then recited various romantic idioms, subtly hinting that he enjoyed being carried by her.

Tao Zhu, though exasperated, also found his behavior endearing and told him to get on the bike so they could go home. Lin Nanyi's birthday arrived, and his friends, including Wang Yiming, gathered at the Blue Elephant café to celebrate. They wished him a happy birthday, some even addressing him as "Guru Qing He."

At the celebration, Mi Ya shared her plans to move to France next summer to be with Andre, explaining that she had learned one must actively pursue what they desire, rather than passively waiting. She then specifically advised Lin Nanyi that to achieve what he wanted, he "cannot passively wait, but must actively pursue it." Tong Xi also expressed sadness about the Blue Elephant cafe closing once Mi Ya left, as she had worked there for years.

Wang Yiming presented Lin Nanyi with a set of watercolor markers, a gift Lin Nanyi mildly disparaged, noting that Wang Yiming, despite claiming to know him well, overlooked his current preference for graphic tablets in his artwork. Tong Xi presented Lin Nanyi with a box of handmade plant-based pigments, including turmeric, scarlet, and dyer woad leaf. She explained that she remembered his dislike for acrylic, Chinese painting, and gouache, believing he would appreciate these natural paints more.

Lin Nanyi was visibly pleased with the thoughtful gift, confirming his preference. Later that night, reflecting on Tong Xi's words about his adoptive parents' love and his birth mother's care, Lin Nanyi decided to have a deeper conversation with his birth mother.

Afterwards, he confided in Tong Xi that he was attempting to accept his birth mother, though this acceptance did not equate to forgiving everything that had happened in the past, and he didn't like the changes her appearances brought to his life. Time passed swiftly, and Lin Nanyi began making preparations to transfer to the affiliated arts high school. During this time, Tong Xi questioned if Lin Nanyi was afraid of parting.

He admitted he was, but feared regret more than separation, knowing that people can always meet again if they wish. Lin Nanyi understood that this separation, despite his reluctance, was for a better reunion. He calmly bid farewell to his classmates, including Tao Zi, to whom he gave a gift, and Wang Yiming. Separately, Wang Yiming discussed the anxieties of parting with Tao Zhu.

Wang Yiming mentioned that Tong Xi had confided in him about her fear of parting, recalling how moving to Da Cheng had strained her friendships due to distance. Wang Yiming, however, reassured Tao Zhu, emphasizing Lin Nanyi's loyalty to those he cared about, promising that they would still gather for activities like barbecues, drinks, and basketball upon his return, even though Lin Nanyi isn't as good at basketball.

Lin Nanyi took Tong Xi to a park they frequented as children, where they reminisced about their younger days, including him chasing people around the slide and her protecting him. He showed her a beautiful portrait he had painted of her using the handmade plant-based pigments she had given him, telling her she was beautiful. Lin Nanyi then revealed that he would be leaving Xi Hai the following day, and the portrait was his farewell gift.

Tong Xi inquired about the grand finale for his comic "Mint" and his plans for new stories. He explained that "Mint" was complete and submitted to Sister Jia Jia for update in two days, but he intended to temporarily stop drawing new comics to focus on his studies at the affiliated arts high school, immersing himself in art theories and exhibitions. They playfully recalled his childhood clumsiness on the slide.

As they walked, they impulsively decided to pick some guavas, leading to a humorous chase by the owner, a moment that mirrored a sweet memory from their childhood of stealing fruit. Lin Nanyi then asked Tong Xi if she had written him letters when she moved to Da Cheng. She confirmed she did, as she feared he would forget her and wanted to affirm they would meet again. He then requested that she continue writing to him after he left.

Lin Nanyi shared that he had been thinking about her a lot recently, remarking on how happy he felt whenever they were together, even through arguments, and expressed his fear of regretting unspoken words. Just as he was about to confess something more, a voice from his birth mother, seemingly a flashback or internal thought, interrupted the moment.

Episode 24 (Ending) Recap

Even before Lin Nanyi departed from Xi Hai, Tong Xi found herself overwhelmed with emotion, hiding under her covers and weeping uncontrollably as she already missed him. Lin Nanyi confessed to Tong Xi how profoundly important she was to him, stating he didn't want their story to conclude there.

He thanked her for providing him with the best memories of his youth, for her trust and companionship, and assured her that they would meet again soon, urging her to write to him. In her thoughts, Tong Xi acknowledged that she was already missing Lin Nanyi even though he hadn't left town yet. At the bus station, Lin Nanyi revealed he had changed his ticket and waited for her, feeling glad she had arrived.

Tong Xi realized how important he was to her now that he was leaving and regretted not having said a proper goodbye. Lin Nanyi suggested they write letters, just like people used to before mobile phones. Tong Xi wrote a letter, which Lin Nanyi told her to read after boarding. As he prepared to leave, Tong Xi wished him a safe journey. She privately expressed her heartache and uncertainty about their separation, wondering if they were truly parting ways.

Meanwhile, Wang Yiming was deeply upset by Lin Nanyi's departure, tearfully stating how much he would miss his friend. Tao Zhu tried to comfort him, pointing out his swollen eyes and reminding him that Lin Nanyi would surely return. She also gently reminded him that he still had her by his side. After Wang Yiming continued to cry, Tao Zhu embraced him in comfort.

In the quiet days following Lin Nanyi's departure, Tong Xi found solace in her ballet practice, often staying in the studio during her breaks and earning praise from her teacher. She also continued to write letters to Lin Nanyi, filling them with stories and observations from her life, but never sent them, intending to share them with him in person upon his return.

She noticed that the beach they used to frequent felt too windy without him, so she stopped visiting it. In her letters, she mused about whether those who leave ever truly reunite, holding onto the belief that they would, just as the flower language of mint suggested countless encounters. Tong Xi also recounted how Tao Zhu had been busy. Xu Ao had apologized to Tao Zhu and entrusted the Drama Club to her.

Though Tao Zhu seemed proud of her new role, Tong Xi sensed a lingering sadness in her, contemplating the unspoken regrets and mistakes that often mark one's youth. The first summer after Lin Nanyi left arrived quickly, bringing with it more goodbyes. Wei Ze, Xu Ao, and Mi Ya also departed from Xi Hai Town. Mi Ya closed Blue Elephant and flew to France to reunite with Andre, happily posing for selfies under the Eiffel Tower.

Tong Xi adopted Mi Ya's cat, Monroe. Her mother began to put on makeup and go on dates, only for Tong Xi to find out that the man she was seeing was none other than her father, which she jokingly attributed to the "power of love" as his career also saw significant improvement, culminating in the publication of his new book, "Ah Nuan's Travel". As winter arrived, Tong Xi, in her unsent letters, repeatedly wondered when Lin Nanyi would return.

Later, Tong Xi participated in an audition, presenting herself as a ballet major from Xi Hai High School. When asked about her future aspirations, she confessed her simple love for ballet and expressed her desire to continue dancing, regardless of her chosen career path. As she performed a beautiful ballet routine, she reflected on her journey, remembering the nervousness she felt during previous auditions.

She realized that truly knowing one's desires eliminates fear and uncertainty, allowing an ordinary girl to transform into a White Swan. Tong Xi silently thanked Lin Nanyi for helping her discover her true self. One evening, while watering the mint plants at Lin Nanyi's house, Tong Xi grew frustrated that he hadn't replied to her messages. Suddenly, she noticed the lights on inside his house.

Fearing a break-in, she frantically messaged Tao Zhu, urging her to call Wang Yiming and come to the mint garden. To her shock, Lin Nanyi appeared, greeting her casually. Tong Xi was overjoyed and bewildered by his presence, initially suspecting he might have run away from home after an argument with his mother. Lin Nanyi clarified that he had finished his unified exams earlier than her and returned home to surprise her.

He explained that while he had transferred schools, his student status remained in Xi Hai, meaning he still needed to return for the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) after his art audition. He assured her that they wouldn't have to be separated for the next half-year leading up to the NCEE, and with luck, they could get into the same university, ensuring they would never be apart again. He promised to prepare for the NCEE alongside her.

Tong Xi broke down in tears, admitting how much she had missed him. Lin Nanyi comforted her, embracing her. In her final unsent letter entry for January 20, 2016, Tong Xi joyfully declared that her long wait was over because Lin Nanyi had finally returned. As the NCEE results were announced, a teacher offered parting advice to the graduating students, encouraging them to live well, study hard, love, understand, and accept themselves.

He urged them never to forget their past selves and each other, cherishing those memories. Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi both successfully gained admission to universities in the same city, ready to pursue their dreams together. Meanwhile, Wang Yiming and Tao Zhu also received their admission notices for the same university. As they cycled to meet Tong Xi and Lin Nanyi, Tao Zhu playfully urged Wang Yiming to speed up, but he jokingly complained about being her "laborer."

He then pulled over, claiming to be tired. Tao Zhu, half-joking, lamented their intertwined fate, from childhood neighbors to university classmates. Wang Yiming teased her, then unexpectedly leaned in and kissed her. Surprised, Tao Zhu asked him to do it again, solidifying their relationship. Ni Xiaowan also received her admission notice for her ideal university. With new chapters beginning, everyone looked forward to a brighter future.
