Go Into Your Heart Episode 8 Recap
> Go Into Your Heart Recap
Drunk and emotional, Cheng Liao confessed her true feelings to Sheng Jingchu. She spoke of how her sister, Cheng Yi, was always more beautiful, intelligent, and a role model for other children, making her the perfect match for Xu Chi as his childhood friend. Cheng Liao wondered what was wrong with her lately, admitting she had desperately wanted to be with Xu Chi, only to end up in a scandal with Sheng Jingchu. She felt very emotional and confused.
She also cried on Sheng Jingchu's shoulder, finally able to release her pent-up emotions. She then revealed that she had loved Xu Chi since she was in her second year of junior high. She recounted an incident where she tried to scale the school wall to avoid getting caught for long hair but couldn't get down. Xu Chi, wearing a black suit, caught her when she jumped, asking if she was hurt.
She remembered how handsome he looked and how he always took her out and fulfilled her requests during holidays. She expressed her shock and sorrow that he actually loved Cheng Yi, admitting she had always believed he loved her. The next morning, Cheng Liao’s father was surprised by her drunken state and asked about the celebration she attended. Cheng Liao had a blurry memory of being at Sheng Jingchu’s house and felt embarrassed, remembering fragments of being with him.
She immediately called Sheng Jingchu, asking him to keep everything from the previous night a secret. Sheng Jingchu teased her about throwing up at his house and kissing him, but then clarified he was just joking. Cheng Liao then worried that her public declaration might cause trouble for him and suggested he clarify the situation. However, Sheng Jingchu believed constant explanations would only make things worse and proposed they let the misunderstanding stand.
Cheng Liao reluctantly agreed to have Sheng Jingchu pretend to be her boyfriend for a while, promising not to cause him any more trouble. Meanwhile, at the dojo, Yao Ke was quickly grasping Xie Lao’s Go explanations, earning high praise from the master. Yao Ke then boldly asked if he would ever be able to defeat Sheng Jingchu. Xie Lao encouraged him, stating that with continuous effort, anything is possible in the unpredictable world of Go.
Xie Chang'an, having overheard the conversation, later questioned his father, Xie Lao, about Yao Ke's actual chances. Xie Lao confided that he himself wasn't even sure if he could defeat Sheng Jingchu, and his words to Yao Ke were merely to inspire confidence in the diligent young player. At work, Cheng Liao was confronted by Xiao Yan, who accused her of using Xu Chi as a cover for her feelings for Sheng Jingchu.
Cheng Liao, feeling hurt, asked her to drop the subject. Xiao Yan then told her that Xu Chi hadn't come to work because he was "recuperating" at home after being rejected by Cheng Yi yesterday. Concerned, Cheng Liao tried to call Xu Chi, but his phone was off. She thought about going to see him but realized that he likely wanted to see Cheng Yi, not her. Just then, Sheng Jingchu called, inviting her to watch a movie.
Cheng Liao initially thought he was trying to cheer her up after her heartbreak. Sheng Jingchu insisted, asking her to consider it as accompanying him, and Cheng Liao eventually agreed. They watched a romantic movie whose themes resonated deeply with Cheng Liao’s current situation, making her sad. Afterwards, Sheng Jingchu took her for dessert.
Cheng Liao confessed that her sadness wasn't because Xu Chi didn't like her, but because she felt foolish for not realizing his true feelings for Cheng Yi, believing they were indeed a more suitable match.
Sheng Jingchu explained that he had noticed Xu Chi's affection for Cheng Yi through various subtle clues, such as matching tea sets with specific designs (gold-threaded cups with small flowers for a "female owner" and silver-threaded cups with butterflies for a "male owner") and constellations (Southern Cross and Big Dipper) as "hidden couple items" he’d seen in Xu Chi’s office and on Xu Chi's and Cheng Yi's social media.
Cheng Liao felt even more foolish, realizing that outsiders like Sheng Jingchu had recognized the signs while she remained oblivious. She concluded that sometimes people only see what they want to see, and she had simply been a "third wheel" in Xu Chi's affections all these years. Sheng Jingchu then invited Cheng Liao to go shopping with him the following day. Cheng Liao, wishing for some alone time, tried to decline.
However, Sheng Jingchu insisted, reminding her that she owed him a favor and he was impatient to be repaid. Cheng Liao, calling him petty, reluctantly agreed. Meanwhile, Cheng Yi met with Xu Chi. She told him that their long-standing friendship made his sudden confession unexpected and uncomfortable. She explained that she saw him like a close cousin and couldn't accept him romantically, finding the situation strange and unsettling.
Xu Chi, however, reiterated that he had liked her since childhood and had spent years transforming himself into the person she would desire, asserting that he wouldn't give up now. He believed he was the most suitable and understanding person for her and vowed to wait, no matter how long it took, to win her heart. The next day, Sheng Jingchu arrived early at Cheng Liao's former junior high school, their designated meeting place.
Cheng Liao was surprised he chose her alma mater and wondered if he had seen her old social media posts about places she wanted to revisit. Sheng Jingchu admitted he was hoping to cheer her up by completing those activities with her. As Cheng Liao led him around, sharing stories about her classroom, her struggles with climbing stairs, her favorite food stall, and her exam results, Sheng Jingchu listened intently.
She also pointed out the basketball court where Xu Chi taught her to shoot and the wall where he had caught her. Although Sheng Jingchu expressed concern that she didn't seem happy revisiting these memories, Cheng Liao reassured him, explaining that while she could do these things alone, it felt meaningful to share them with someone, much like Xu Chi's hidden gestures for Cheng Yi. She thanked him, clarifying she needed to vent her emotions.
They then moved on to an amusement park. Cheng Liao quickly shook off her sadness and enjoyed herself immensely. Sheng Jingchu, showcasing his unexpected skill, won many stuffed fox plushies for her, making her delighted. When Cheng Liao asked how he was so good at claw machines, Sheng Jingchu explained that his friend, Cao Xihe, desired his agarwood and a Huangshi seal. They had gambled these items in claw machine challenges.
Sheng Jingchu had initially lost the seal but, not liking to lose, practiced until he mastered the game, eventually winning back the seal and his precious agarwood. Cheng Liao found their rivalry rather childish. She concluded the day by telling Sheng Jingchu she was "super happy," and he reiterated his earlier request not to be thanked.
Separately, Cheng Yi was summoned by Mr. Gao, who informed her that the show's main sponsor had pulled out, leaving "Sincere Conversation" with only three remaining episodes before an indefinite hiatus. Mr. Gao then assigned her to cover an emergency public interview in the central business district that evening, citing staff shortages.
Cheng Yi was surprised, having to move from her prominent hosting role to fieldwork, but Mr. Gao expressed confidence in her versatile abilities, assuring her she would excel in any role. Meanwhile, Jiang Yuda, a renowned European chess player, arrived at a dojo, only to be repeatedly defeated three times by an unknown player named Xiao Lan.
Feeling frustrated by these consecutive losses, Jiang Yuda sought solace by drinking with Cheng Yi, who was also feeling down about her career changes. Despite his defeat, Jiang Yuda vowed not to give up his ambition to become a master and was determined to find a mentor. The two then went to a nightclub to unwind. The following morning, Jiang Yuda woke up in a hotel room to find a stack of money on the bed, leaving him bewildered about its meaning.
