Go Into Your Heart Episode 5 Recap
> Go Into Your Heart Recap
Cheng Liao prepared a bowl of fish soup for Sheng Jingchu, hoping to replicate the taste of his mother's cooking. After a taste, Sheng Jingchu admitted, "It's still a little different," explaining that every time he had fish soup, it never quite matched what his mother made when he was young. Cheng Liao, a bit disheartened but determined, believed she could succeed with a few more tries, noting that it was her first attempt.
Sheng Jingchu then suggested they go for a walk, feeling much better after the soup. Observing that Cheng Liao hadn't eaten while cooking for him, he took her out for spicy hotpot. It was Sheng Jingchu's first time trying such street food, and he found it surprisingly good, calling it "the taste of happiness." They reminisced about their childhood food experiences.
Cheng Liao shared how she used to eat street food on her way home from high school, fondly calling it "the taste of after school," a pleasure that disappeared when she went to college. Sheng Jingchu, having been a Go prodigy since age six, never attended school, spending half his days on cultural studies and the other half playing Go, with only one constant teacher: his Go master.
Later, as Master Xie's highly anticipated match with Sheng Jingchu was about to begin, Master Xie was nowhere to be found, causing his disciples to fret and call him repeatedly without answer. Just as their anxiety mounted, the committee received a call from Master Jiang Chun Lai, announcing that Master Xie was suddenly unwell and unable to continue the match, leading to Sheng Jingchu's victory. This news stunned Sheng Jingchu.
Xie Chang'an, however, speculated that his father was faking illness to protect Sheng Jingchu's status, knowing Sheng Jingchu was not in his best state and Master Xie would not want to win unfairly. The other disciples vehemently disagreed, recalling Master Xie's teachings about respecting opponents and the game. Sheng Jingchu, accepting the trophy, stated publicly, "I didn't win, neither did Master lose."
Faced with a barrage of questions from reporters, including one about his relationship with Cheng Liao, Sheng Jingchu only replied, "We are friends," before quickly leaving the press conference. On the flight back, Sheng Jingchu attentively cared for Cheng Liao, making her feel cherished. Upon returning home, Cheng Liao's father and sister questioned her about her feelings for Sheng Jingchu. She reiterated that she didn't like him and they were just friends, despite his excellence, as he wasn't her type.
Her father and sister, however, persisted in trying to set them up, believing they were a perfect match. Meanwhile, back at his own home, Sheng Jingchu was cooking alone. He recalled Cheng Liao's advice not to separate his food, as it was unhealthy. He then mixed everything together before eating. His master arrived, observing that Sheng Jingchu's apartment felt cold and unwelcoming, like a showroom, lacking life.
He suggested that having "Ms. Cheng" live with him would bring warmth, but Sheng Jingchu maintained they were just friends. Sheng Jingchu then expressed concern for his master's health. His master assured him he was fine and recovered quickly, playfully chiding Sheng Jingchu for doubting him. He lamented the lack of formidable opponents since Master Jiang Chun Lai's performance had declined, stating he eagerly awaited Sheng Jingchu's full recovery to compete against him properly.
Sheng Jingchu subtly hinted that he was feeling fine when he was in Suzhou. At work, Cheng Liao discovered that Lisa had plagiarized all her footage of Sheng Jingchu, editing herself into the interview and even faking Sheng Jingchu's presence with another man to claim credit. Lisa dismissed Cheng Liao as merely an intern and a "nobody," stating that her name was in the credits.
As their argument escalated, the director intervened, announcing the arrival of a new Vice President for the programming department. To Cheng Liao's delight, it was Xu Chi, her childhood crush. Xu Chi immediately addressed Lisa's fraudulent work, noting the obvious discrepancies in lighting and editing between Lisa and Sheng Jingchu's footage. He made it clear that any future falsification would result in termination, to which the director quickly apologized and called a meeting.
Xu Chi then invited Cheng Liao to dinner after work, making many colleagues believe she had found a powerful ally. Cheng Liao reflected on her childhood, where Xu Chi always looked after her like a younger sister, fostering a deep sense of reliance. After work, Xu Chi picked her up, informing her that he had ordered the program with the plagiarized material to be taken down and re-edited to reflect the original content.
He also mandated that Lisa and Director Liu issue a public apology. Cheng Liao was surprised by Xu Chi's transformation from a "good-for-nothing" student who often stood in the hallway as punishment, into a "capable young man" upon his return. Xu Chi confirmed he was back for good with an important mission to accomplish. Xu Chi later joined Cheng Liao's family for dinner.
Cheng Yi playfully tackled him upon sight, much to Cheng Liao's chagrin, who urged her sister to be more polite. Cheng Yi retorted that given their long-standing familiarity, treating him like a brother was normal. After a lively meal, during which everyone, including Cheng Liao's father, became quite tipsy, a designated driver was called for Xu Chi. Cheng Liao's father even passed out on the floor.
During the dinner, Xu Chi proposed a new large-scale variety show for Pinecone Video, titled "The Universal Challenge," focusing on high-IQ competitions and inviting experts from various fields. As Pinecone lacked experience in variety show production, he suggested a co-production with Binhai TV Station. Cheng Yi, who worked at the TV station and was looking for new ventures, promised to discuss it with Mr. Gao, the deputy director.
Meanwhile, Cheng Yi's sharp interviewing style was evident in her own talk show, where she cornered a guest about product fraud, causing him to abruptly end the segment. Mr. Gao, impressed, assigned Cheng Yi to another program, with the key condition that Sheng Jingchu must be a guest to leverage his popularity. Cheng Yi assured him she would secure his appearance. Xu Chi visited Sheng Jingchu to apologize for the plagiarism involving Cheng Liao's material.
Sheng Jingchu, however, redirected the apology, stating it should be made directly to Cheng Liao. Just then, Cheng Liao arrived. Xu Chi formally apologized to Cheng Liao on behalf of the company for the management oversight, promising such incidents would not recur. Cheng Liao felt their long-standing relationship made such formality unnecessary, but realized Xu Chi's apology was also for Sheng Jingchu's benefit. Xu Chi then invited Sheng Jingchu to participate in "The Universal Challenge," but Sheng Jingchu firmly declined.
He revealed his visit was solely to ensure the TV station apologized to Cheng Liao. After exchanging WeChat contacts with Xu Chi, Sheng Jingchu prepared to leave. Xu Chi urged Cheng Liao not to let him go, insisting she convince him to join the show, believing Sheng Jingchu would agree to her request. Cheng Liao quickly chased after him. When she asked Sheng Jingchu to participate, explaining it was her wish, he immediately agreed, making her very happy. Sheng Jingchu then told Cheng Liao to send the materials to his assistant.
