She eventually confessed that it was Sheng Jingchu's shirt; her clothes had gotten wet in the rain the previous night, so she had changed at his place and left her own clothes there to dry. This revelation alarmed Cheng Fengshou, who immediately assumed Sheng Jingchu and Cheng Liao were cohabiting. Cheng Liao quickly denied it, asserting that she had not yet accepted Sheng Jingchu's romantic advances, leaving her father puzzled about her true feelings.
Still agitated, Cheng Fengshou shared his concerns with Jiang Yuda at his restaurant, lamenting Cheng Liao's perceived disobedience after 24 years of raising her. He felt his daughter was being wronged without a properly established relationship. Jiang Yuda attempted to reassure him, pointing out that Cheng Liao was an adult and Sheng Jingchu was a respected Go Legend. However, Cheng Fengshou dismissed Sheng Jingchu's status, emphasizing that only his daughter's happiness and well-being mattered.
He then grumbled and instructed Jiang Yuda to stop talking and focus on peeling garlic, completely missing Jiang Yuda's quiet remark about other secrets that would drive him even crazier. Meanwhile, Xu Chi met with Cheng Yi, urging her to join Pinecone Video for its promising career prospects. Cheng Yi explained her reluctance to leave her current television station as a "loser" after previous show failures, including a show called "The Showdown of Grandmasters."
She was determined to first launch a new show, "Road to Success," which she hoped would be a success, allowing her to leave without regret. Xu Chi expressed his full support, promising to patiently await her at Pinecone Video, confessing his desire for them to work together and see her daily as an "extra benefit." He then presented her with a bracelet as an early "onboarding gift," symbolizing a fresh start together.
Cheng Yi, however, felt he was only pushing her to switch jobs to be near her and firmly told him that she only saw him as family. Cheng Yi then mused about the difficulty of leaving a place one has grown attached to, whether it be a country, a school, a home, or a job, even if it had become a source of unhappiness. Jiang Yuda then advised her that if she was truly unhappy, she must choose to leave. Back at Sheng Jingchu's apartment, his assistant arrived and playfully teased him about the relationship between him and Cheng Liao after seeing him fold a woman's shirt.
The assistant then informed Sheng Jingchu about an upcoming charity event involving a Go popularization lecture for children, which many, including Master Xie, had highly recommended him for. Sheng Jingchu, feeling he wasn't good at public speaking, suggested Cao Xihe would be a better fit and told his assistant to decline the invitation. Just then, Cheng Liao arrived to return Sheng Jingchu's freshly washed shirt. Noticing the lecture materials, she enthusiastically asked if she could join the event.
Sheng Jingchu, to his assistant's surprise, immediately changed his mind and happily agreed to attend the lecture with her. The next morning, Cheng Liao set off with Sheng Jingchu for the charity event. Unbeknownst to them, Cheng Fengshou secretly followed them in a taxi. During their ride, the taxi detoured onto Anning Road due to traffic.
This road triggered a severe emotional breakdown for Sheng Jingchu, as it was the site of his parents' fatal car accident during his childhood, which he had witnessed from the car. Overwhelmed, he demanded the driver stop, exited the car, and vomited. Cheng Liao rushed to comfort him, but he remained deeply unsettled, even upon arriving at the school. Cheng Liao explained his state to the organizers, then went ahead to warm up the children.
When a child approached Sheng Jingchu for an autograph, his trauma caused him to become agitated and run away. Cheng Fengshou, witnessing this, angrily confronted Sheng Jingchu, demanding he apologize to the child for his behavior. Cheng Liao quickly intervened, telling her father to go home and promising to explain the situation later, as Sheng Jingchu was clearly unwell.
After the event, Cheng Liao returned with Sheng Jingchu, and he confided in her about his parents' tragic accident on that very road, revealing it as the source of his long-standing psychological trauma. Upon returning home, Cheng Liao faced her father, Cheng Fengshou, who was still furious. Cheng Fengshou angrily demanded she break all ties with Sheng Jingchu.
He refused to hear any explanations for Sheng Jingchu's behavior, accusing him of mistreating a child from an orphanage and warning Cheng Liao she would regret it. Cheng Liao defended Sheng Jingchu, accusing her father of judging him blindly without understanding his severe psychological distress. Their argument escalated until Cheng Liao stormed off to her room, refusing to listen to her father's nagging. Cheng Yi intervened, calming her father before heading to Cheng Liao's room.
She found her sister crying, upset that Cheng Fengshou almost hit her and felt unloved. Cheng Yi reassured her that their father cherished her deeply, reminding her of his past favoritism. Cheng Liao complained about her father's stubbornness regarding Sheng Jingchu, and Cheng Yi promised to talk to him later, while playfully teasing her sister about crying too much. Later, Xu Chi visited Cheng Fengshou, who was still fuming over Cheng Liao's rebellious actions.
After some hesitation, Xu Chi bravely confessed his long-standing feelings for Cheng Yi and his intention to pursue her, admitting he had returned to the city specifically for her and seeking Cheng Fengshou's blessing. Cheng Fengshou was ecstatic, enthusiastically approving of the childhood sweethearts. Just as he gave his full consent, Cheng Yi arrived and, upon sensing the situation, pulled Xu Chi outside.
She firmly told him to stop joking about their relationship and that she only saw him as family. Xu Chi, however, insisted he was serious and vowed to wait until she agreed. He then departed, reiterating his faith in her "Road to Success" program and his continued wait for her to join Pinecone Video. As Xu Chi was leaving, he spotted Jiang Yuda working in Cheng Fengshou's shop.
With a hint of jealousy, he made a sarcastic remark, asking if Jiang Yuda felt threatened by his closeness to Cheng Yi and implying that Jiang Yuda's efforts working there were futile. Cheng Yi later found herself reflecting on the enthusiastic approval from both her father and Xu Chi regarding a potential romantic relationship with Xu Chi.
