General Feng was furious about Ming Chu’s overbearing behavior. Ming Chu refused to accept it and claimed that Jiang Xu and Ming Tan, as a married couple, were targeting her, which led General Feng to place her under house arrest. Su Er Rong summoned Qing Yu, telling her to serve properly. Jiang Xu was not entirely indifferent to women—it just depended on whether she had the ability.

Wen Zong’s eyes were fixed on Ming Tan, which made Jiang Xu visibly displeased. Su Er Rong left for a while due to other matters, leaving Qing Yu to attend to Jiang Xu. Ming Tan’s expression changed drastically when she saw Jiang Xu eat the dish Qing Yu had picked for him. She was furious inside, blaming Jiang Xu for lacking the self-awareness of a married man.

When Ming Tan and Wen Zong talked about business, Jiang Xu was gnashing his teeth in frustration and unknowingly snapped the chopsticks in his hand, startling the musicians nearby. Wen Zong dismissed the singing girls and played the zither by himself, guessing Ming Tan’s favorite type of zither. Jiang Xu once again couldn’t hold back. Su Er Rong received news that Yu Bozhong had moved quite a few boxes today, with a nanny helping to cover for him.

She rushed to deal with the matter immediately. Jiang Xu and Wen Zong drank together and unknowingly became quite drunk. Qing Yu thought she had a chance and tried to help him rest, but Ming Tan stormed off in anger upon seeing this, and Jiang Xu hurriedly chased after her while still under the influence.

Shu Jingran came to see Su Er Rong and reminded her that Yu Bozhong was not merely a live-in son-in-law; he had been pretending all this time and actually had another identity. Yu Bozhong had arranged to meet Jiang Xu outside the city, but didn’t expect Jiang Xu to go back on his word and bring Su Er Rong’s people along. Only then did Yu Bozhong realize that Jiang Xu had never intended to work with him from the beginning.

As Ming Tan was leaving, she ordered someone to send up two bowls of hangover soup and reminded them to add more vinegar, since both men liked it that way. Jiang Xu rushed to catch up—he was already somewhat drunk. If time could turn back, Jiang Xu would wholeheartedly devote himself to her, disregarding any betrothal. Only Ming Tan’s own words would count. In the carriage, Ming Tan angrily asked why he ate the dish Qing Yu offered.

Clearly, he lacked self-control and was swayed by desire, while Jiang Xu could only look at her longingly. Hai Shen’s faction was wiped out by the joint forces of Jiang Xu and Su Er Rong, but Yu Bozhong took advantage of the chaos and escaped. As for the money from the Su family, it had already passed through legitimate channels. Today, Su Er Rong would surely hand it over willingly.

Shu Jingran mentioned that the hangover and stomach-soothing soup had been specially arranged by Ming Tan for Jiang Xu, and also brought up how yesterday Ming Tan had found it inappropriate for Wen Zong to be drunk alone at the restaurant and had sent him back. Jiang Xu immediately flew into a rage, dragging Shu Jingran into the mess as well, prompting Shu Jingran to sigh at how strange Jiang Xu’s temper had become lately.

Ming Tan brought a hairpin to Shopkeeper Luo to ask if it was sold by him. Shopkeeper Luo repeatedly denied it, and Wen Zong appeared again to smooth things over for him. After leaving Fulujin Tower, Ming Tan intentionally brought up some things she had experienced in Lingzhou, prompting Wen Zong to volunteer as her guide. Wen Zong said that truly good things in Lingzhou were extremely hard to find. The two arrived at a remote tea stall.

Though it was shabby, Ming Tan was surprised by how good the taste was. Shu Jingran and Yun Yi made roast chicken together. Yun Yi had wanted to learn how to make roast chicken for a long time, but no one had been willing to teach her. Yun Yi said Shu Jingran was different from Jiang Xu—there was a bigger smile on Shu Jingran’s face.

Zhui Yu had felt something odd the entire way and was shocked to find out it was Jiang Xu. Jiang Xu was extremely unhappy about Wen Zong and Ming Tan being together and had been secretly following them the whole day. Jiang Xu only collected the proper amount of additional taxes. Su Er Rong was surprised to find that such a man who didn’t love money truly existed. Upon hearing that Jiang Xu had followed Ming Tan for a whole day, Su Er Rong decided to invite Ming Tan to her residence tonight for a talk.
