Rakshasa Street Episode 19 Recap
> Rakshasa Street Recap
The sky presented unusual phenomena, and the Bodhi tree had been destroyed. Northern Division, realizing something was amiss, asked about the destruction of the Bodhi tree. Cao Yanbing explained that the celestial visions were linked to the tree's demise, noting that similar anomalies, where the human realm and spirit realm intersected, had been observed when the Spirit Locust Tree was destroyed. Northern Division became alarmed, suspecting he had been tricked, and urgently rushed back to Mingjing village.
Upon their arrival, the once peaceful village lay in ruins, strewn with bodies, a scene of utter devastation. Northern Division was heartbroken, realizing he had been kept in the dark about the unfolding events. Nan Yufu and members of the Kingdom organization had been waiting for Northern Division by the Bodhi tree. Northern Division, realizing he had been tricked, confronted Nan Yufu, demanding to know why he had done this.
Nan Yufu explained that the dimming of the brightest star in the southern sky, Beiluoshimen, signaled the night the Supreme Fruit would emerge. He further asserted that Northern Division was merely a "worm," and he saw no reason to consider a worm's feelings. Nan Yufu also expressed surprise that Cao Yanbing had appeared alongside Northern Division, noting that he hadn't expected the situation to evolve in such a way.
Cao Yanbing called Nan Yufu a hypocrite, to which Nan Yufu responded that he never claimed to be a gentleman, let alone a fake one. As the tension escalated, Nan Yufu revealed his ultimate leverage: Shuier, Northern Division's own daughter. He threatened Shuier's life to manipulate Northern Division. Shuier, her memories restored, cried out for her father, pleading for rescue. Overcome with concern for Shuier, Northern Division hesitated.
Cao Yanbing, however, stepped forward, ready to confront Nan Yufu, stating that he intended to defeat him first. But before Cao Yanbing could reach Nan Yufu, Northern Division attacked and knocked him unconscious, explaining that he had no choice while Shuier was still in Nan Yufu's grasp. Nan Yufu was pleased with Northern Division's actions. He ordered Hattori to place a Lock Spirit Stone on Cao Yanbing, intending to frame him for the destruction of the Bodhi tree.
As he was being restrained, Cao Yanbing defiantly told Nan Yufu that he would wait for him in another world, declaring that the fires of hell would never be extinguished. Nan Yufu scoffed, saying they were already in another world. Nan Yufu then demanded that Northern Division kneel. For Shuier's sake, Northern Division painfully complied, enduring Nan Yufu's taunts that a respected Zhenhun general like him now looked like a dog.
Nan Yufu then revealed his true objective for the night: the Supreme Fruit. He explained that years ago, a spirit monkey had eaten a young Supreme Fruit from the Bodhi tree, causing it to alienate and become a formidable monkey monster. Eventually, a host spirit took it as his guardian spirit, helping it control its mind. The Supreme Fruit, still within the monkey monster, had also entered the host spirit's body and had been growing for five years.
This monkey monster was named Shilingming, and its host spirit was Northern Division. Nan Yufu concluded that the Supreme Fruit resided within Northern Division's body, and he had made Northern Division the Zhenhun general of Yulin Street precisely to create a reliable vessel for the Supreme Fruit. With his plans laid bare, Nan Yufu ordered the Lingjia army to place a Lock Spirit Stone on Northern Division as well, and to take them all away.
As he was being led off, Northern Division, echoing Cao Yanbing's earlier defiance, told Nan Yufu that he would wait for him in the afterlife and that the fires of hell would never be extinguished. Nan Yufu merely laughed in response. Meanwhile, Hattori was escorting Cao Yanbing when she engaged him in conversation, expressing curiosity about why such a cunning person like him would choose to confront Northern Division so directly.
Cao Yanbing, regaining consciousness, retorted that he hadn't expected Northern Division to be so resilient, having assumed everyone was as "weak" as Hattori. Their exchange was interrupted by a group of alienated Bai family villagers who attacked the Lingjia army, intent on rescuing Cao Yanbing. Cao Yanbing, seeing Bai Jingyin among them, who was inadvertently killing his own villagers under the influence of alienation, shouted his name to awaken him, reminding him of their elders and their shared past.
Realizing his actions, Bai Jingyin momentarily shifted allegiance, attempting to remove Cao Yanbing's Lock Spirit Stone. Seeing this, Hattori summoned her guardian spirit, Shimazu Yoshihiro. Shimazu Yoshihiro, a powerful force, swung his large hammer towards Bai Jingyin, but Cao Yanbing quickly pushed Bai Jingyin out of the way, taking the devastating blow himself.
The villagers then split into two groups: one valiantly stayed to delay Shimazu Yoshihiro, while the other carried the gravely wounded Cao Yanbing to safety, despite his protests not to risk their lives for him. In the midst of his escape, Cao Yanbing reflected that perhaps heaven only favored the strong or ignored justice entirely. Yet, he found solace in the belief that human righteousness was not determined by the heavens. Under that very sky, he still found companions.
He recalled his past interactions with Xia Ling, harboring a hope that if he were ever to transform into a Shura, forced to become a butcher, he would not be alone. Back in the human world, Xia Ling successfully defended her thesis and graduated. She mused that instead of dwelling in nostalgic dreams, it was better to seek heaven within hell.
Prompted by a roommate's casual comment, she realized she had lost a significant period of memory, including a car accident and a hospital stay. To verify this, Xia Ling visited a hospital, where a doctor confirmed her hospitalization record. She declined further examinations and returned home, searching online for information about the bus accident. Seeing a photograph of a young girl who perished in the crash, fragmented memories of Mingjing village began to surface in her mind. She heard a child's voice, Shuier, crying for her father, not wanting to be alone.
