After Rong Le gave birth, Fu Yuan confronted Rong Qi, mocking his filial greeting. She then commanded her guards to take Rong Qi, Rong Le, and the newborn back to the palace. Soon after, Wu You and Wu Chou arrived at the scene, desperately calling for Man Yao. They found a villager outside the house and questioned her about the blood by the bed.

The villager revealed that Rong Le had just given birth to a healthy baby boy, but a group of soldiers had forcibly taken the child, mentioning something about returning to the palace. Realizing his child had been abducted, Wu You immediately led his men in pursuit with Wu Chou. Fu Yuan, angered by Rong Qi's defiance, questioned if he truly intended to abandon her now.

Rong Qi calmly retorted that she had never truly cared for his life, as his destiny was predetermined by her even before his birth, all stemming from her desire for vengeance against those who wronged her. He questioned whether her two decades of staged tragedy had truly brought her peace or merely trapped her in past trauma, forcing her to find serenity only through scripture.

Rong Qi declared that her revenge was not his desire; he only wished for Rong Le to live happily and healthily. He pleaded with Fu Yuan to stop hurting Rong Le and immediately return her son, threatening her otherwise. Fu Yuan was astonished by his newfound courage, knowing he had always submitted to her will to ensure Rong Le's survival.

Rong Qi, however, revealed his deep resentment, stating he was tired of being her puppet ruler, denied a life of his own or the right to love. Fu Yuan furiously condemned his love for her enemy's daughter, bitterly recalling how Qin Yong's vile words and actions had led to her banishment to the Cold Harem and subsequent violation by the Western Qi Emperor, which in turn led to Rong Qi's birth.

Rong Qi interjected, confirming he knew he was the living proof of her humiliation, but pressed her on whether her revenge was truly satisfied after destroying Qin Yong, Lady Yun, and Zongzheng Yunhe. He questioned if she ever truly considered him her son, despite all his suffering for her. Fu Yuan then reminded him of her efforts in making him emperor.

Rong Qi countered that her ambition to place him on the throne was solely for her own manipulative schemes, not for his benefit. He expressed a desire to have never been born, admitting he was already dying and his only wish – to spend undisturbed time with Rong Le – had been shattered by her.

Fu Yuan attempted to appease him by promising to find a cure, but Rong Qi, aware of his long-numbered days, dismissed her offer as another lie. Fu Yuan then dismissed him, stating she would handle all imperial court matters herself. Rong Le woke to find her child missing. Weak, she stepped out, where Rong Qi approached her, asking her to return to the house to talk. Rong Le immediately accused him of taking her son and locking her up.

Rong Qi assured her the child was safe and that her health was the most pressing matter, promising not to lie. He also vowed to cure her poison. However, Rong Le angrily told him to stop calling her "Man'er" and accused him of using her child as leverage against Wu You, especially since Wu You hadn't arrived as promised. Rong Qi desperately pleaded for her to believe him just this once.

Rong Le demanded her son back, dismissing his "false kindness." Before Rong Qi could respond, a guard arrived, informing him that the Empress Dowager had summoned him back and would hold the princess responsible if he refused. Left alone and locked within the courtyard, Rong Le's mind reeled.

She recalled fragmented memories, including a voice telling her that she was saved and brought to Western Qi to impersonate Princess Rong Le and marry into Northern Lin for revenge against those who killed her family. She questioned if she had truly willingly impersonated the princess for revenge and pondered Rong Qi's connection to everything, including her own poisoning.

Standing heartbroken outside Rong Le’s door, Rong Qi was consumed by memories, particularly how some moments, no matter how close, could never be recaptured. He recalled his rebellious youth, climbing walls to secretly visit the Cold Harem, where he met a girl named Man'er. He remembered her patiently teaching him to play the zither and making him delicious osmanthus jelly, greengage cake, and maidenhair cake.

He treasured their time, promising her a life together and that he would protect her, even declaring she was the only family he had. They shared dreams of watching maidenhair leaves fall at a secluded hut. The painful memory of her sudden transformation then resurfaced: the day she emerged from the Cold Harem, no longer Man'er, but the Elder Princess Rong Le, his supposed sister.

He was shattered, unable to accept that the woman he had vowed to marry now claimed their shared past as a mere lie. He had desperately sought the truth, but then overheard a conversation between his mother and Lin Shen, confirming that his mother had orchestrated the massacre of Qin Yong’s entire family. Armed with this horrifying truth, Rong Qi confronted his mother, the Empress Dowager.

He revealed he knew Rong Le's true identity as Qin Man, Qin Yong's daughter, and declared his unwavering intention to marry her, vowing to prevent his mother from harming her further. During Rong Qi’s heated discussion with his mother, Lin Shen suddenly appeared, dragging in a captured Rong Le, who had been eavesdropping. Fu Yuan reprimanded Rong Le for listening in.

Rong Le, now knowing the truth, confronted Fu Yuan directly, accusing her of being her family's murderer and demanding why she was forced to impersonate Princess Rong Le and marry into Northern Lin. She also turned to Rong Qi, accusing him of knowing the truth about his mother's crimes against her family yet remaining silent. Declaring there was no reason to keep Qin Man'er alive, Fu Yuan made to strike her, but Rong Qi shielded her, urging her to run.

Fu Yuan then threatened to kill Rong Qi if Rong Le dared to leave. Despite Rong Qi's pleas for her to escape, Fu Yuan presented a vial of "Destined Poison," forcing Rong Le to choose between her own death and Rong Qi’s. Overwhelmed, and with Rong Qi desperately pleading for her to flee, Rong Le consumed the poison. Emotionally distraught and weakened, Rong Qi coughed up blood.

His mother then offered him a cure for his illness if he would complete one last mission for her, reminding him that Rong Le no longer remembered him and saw him as an enemy. However, Rong Qi defiantly warned his mother that if she ever harmed Rong Le again, he would sacrifice his own life to stop her. With that, he collapsed, unconscious. Meanwhile, Wu You and his strategists convened to plan Rong Le’s rescue.

They debated the risks of an open invasion of Western Qi, concluding it would put Rong Le in greater danger and cause heavy casualties. Instead, they decided on a stealthy infiltration, dispatching a hundred elite soldiers disguised as civilians and merchants to enter the city through various gates, with Agent Wu and the Hidden Ones providing support. Their plan was to rendezvous inside the city at the opportune moment. Separately, Hen Xiang infiltrated the palace.

She overheard a terrified palace maid pleading with Eunuch Xun to send a guard to escort her to the Cold Harem to deliver food to Princess Rong Le, citing fears of a haunting. Eunuch Xun, however, dismissed her fears and ordered her to go alone. Hidden, Hen Xiang watched as a masked guard knocked out the maid.

The guard then called out to Hen Xiang, revealing himself to be Xiang Ying as he removed his mask, and offered to take her to Rong Le. Xiang Ying led Hen Xiang to the Cold Harem, where Hen Xiang was overjoyed to reunite with Rong Le, whom she called "Sister." Noticing Rong Le's cold hands, Hen Xiang immediately urged her to leave. Rong Le confirmed that Rong Qi had taken her son, expressing fear for the child’s well-being.

Hen Xiang reassured her that Rong Qi likely held the child as leverage against Prince Li, meaning the child would remain safe for now. Hen Xiang then proposed they swap clothes so Rong Le could escape disguised as a servant with Xiang Ying, insisting she could easily escape herself by disguising as someone else since she wasn't the primary target. She emphasized that Rong Le was the only family she had left after losing their parents.

Just then, Xiang Ying revealed to Hen Xiang that her own daughter had gone missing from her foster family in Qingzhou. Hearing this, Rong Le insisted that Hen Xiang and Xiang Ying leave immediately to search for her daughter, reiterating that her own son would be safe. Hen Xiang was hesitant to leave Rong Le alone, but before they could further discuss, Lin Shen's voice boomed from outside, demanding all three of them come out. Rong Le opened the door to find Lin Shen standing alone, who then remarked on the scene's familiar appearance.
