Rong Qi, having ordered a search for a specific item, received half of a tome found on Mount Lone Frost. His subordinate explained that the tome was torn twenty years ago, with one half taken and the other hidden. Rong Qi confidently stated he knew where the other half was. He had also been informed that Rong Le was ambushed at the border, with rumors circulating that Wu You was behind it.

Knowing Wu You had been promoting his reforms benefiting the people in the south and gaining popular support, Rong Qi suspected someone was using Rong Le to create a crisis, fearing Wu You's growing influence. He believed the previous incidents, like the "silver-haired demon" rumor and the male companion scandal, were part of this pattern.

Considering Rong Le's fragile health, as the last pastry she ate would only guarantee her safety for a year, and though she had taken blood crows, it could only temporarily suppress the poison, Rong Qi decided he had to go to Chen himself. This failed assassination attempt implied a new plan was underway, and he needed to ensure her safety. Meanwhile, Fu Chou visited Fu Yuan at Senyan Palace.

He recalled Fu Yuan's past lament about being sent to the Western Qi Emperor for violation due to Lady Yun, and remembered Zongzheng Yun He had gestured "west" to him. Fu Chou questioned if this meant his mother had ties to Western Qi. Fu Yuan noted his rare visit, surprised he had come suddenly after previously declining her invitations since his return from the border.

Fu Chou directly asked if she knew Emperor Rong Yi, the former Emperor of Western Qi and Rong Qi's father. Fu Yuan evaded the question, remarking that he looked "under the wind" and asking about news from the south, noting his surprisingly early updates. When Fu Chou persisted, she claimed to be tired and dismissed him. Alone in the empty hall, Fu Chou sat on the ground, reflecting on his solitude despite achieving the throne.

He questioned whether the empire was truly his. He regretted his past actions towards Rong Le, especially feeding her poison and not recognizing her sooner, acknowledging that there was "no such thing as 'if'." Chang Jian then reported that Consort Rong Le was ambushed by the Seven Asuras at the border but was rescued by Prince Zhenbei's men.

Fu Chou was perplexed, knowing Wu You had once sacrificed his pride and life for Rong Le, yet now seemed to be hunting her down. He wondered if Wu You's love had turned to hatred, perhaps due to the rumors of their estrangement after Lady Yun's ashes were lost, leading Wu You to believe Rong Le had a lover.

Learning that Rong Le was in Chen and that Rong Qi was also heading there, Fu Chou immediately decided to go as well, instructing his attendant to tell Fu Yuan he was going to purchase cavalry horses for elite troops. He vowed that if Zongzheng Wu You made the same mistakes he had, he would never allow Rong Le to return to his side. Elsewhere, Fu Yuan summoned Lin Shen, who had been in hiding for a long time.

Lin Shen questioned if she feared Fu Chou discovering them. Fu Yuan confirmed that Fu Chou was on his way to Chen, worried for Rong Le, which was precisely their intention. She admitted that she knew Lin Shen was angered by the destruction of the Creed but insisted she had no other choice.

She justified her actions by stating that Lin Shen had helped her use Rong Le to force Zongzheng Wu You into surrendering, and some sacrifices were necessary to appease Fu Chou’s anger. Lin Shen, unwavering in his loyalty, responded that he wasn't angry, and would risk his life for her, even becoming a eunuch to protect her.

Fu Yuan acknowledged his devotion and tasked him with going to Chen in her stead, as Fu Chou had refused her demands to invade the south. Lin Shen was to incite Fu Chou to engage in a decisive battle with Wu You, and if Fu Chou remained stubborn, Lin Shen was to ensure her vengeance.

Fu Yuan noted that Wu You had even turned his hair white for Rong Le, but his recent actions, after losing his mother's ashes, were unexpected. She assured Lin Shen that they still had another plan in place, and this time she would ensure its success. Meanwhile, at Prince Zhenbei’s Residence, Zhao Yun anxiously awaited Rong Le’s arrival, while Ning Qianyi gently reassured her. He explained that Rong Le was injured and needed treatment at a clinic, causing delays.

As Rong Le arrived, Zhao Yun joyfully embraced her, expressing how much they had missed her. Ning Qianyi mentioned their past tea gatherings in Northern Lin with Prince Li, but Zhao Yun quickly interjected, telling him to avoid mentioning anything that would upset Rong Le. Ning Qianyi then asked about the ambush by the Seven Asuras. Ling Yue interjected, claiming Wu You had become "an entirely different person" and accused him of framing and trying to kill Rong Le.

Zhao Yun refused to believe it, insisting that wasn't the Wu You she knew and wanting to write him a letter. Rong Le, looking exhausted, stopped her. She sighed that this wasn’t her first fallout with Wu You, and there was nothing more to say. She just wanted peace and time to recover. Ning Qianyi supported her, reassuring Rong Le that he and Zhao Yun would always be on her side and that she could stay there without worry.

He gently reminded Zhao Yun not to press her belly. Rong Le, noticing the gesture, realized with surprise that Zhao Yun was expecting a child. She congratulated the couple. Shortly after Rong Le settled in, a subordinate announced a special guest requesting to see her. Ning Qianyi went to welcome the guest, only to find Rong Qi. As he escorted Rong Qi inside, another carriage arrived, carrying Fu Chou. Rong Qi and Fu Chou immediately engaged in a tense exchange.

Fu Chou directly asked Rong Qi what he was doing there, accusing him of harming Rong Le again. Rong Qi retorted that Fu Chou had lost his manners, and denied harming Rong Le, claiming she was the sister he loved most, and instead blamed Fu Chou for nearly getting her killed after he married her off.

Ning Qianyi intervened, explaining that Rong Le was emotionally distraught and physically injured, having cried profusely with Zhao Yun and refusing to hear Wu You’s name mentioned. He stated that she was not in a state to see anyone and if forced, she would surely leave.

Ning Qianyi offered to house both Rong Qi and Fu Chou in the Qianlin Court, assuring them that Zhao Yun would speak with Rong Le and arrange a meeting once she was in a better mood. Both men reluctantly agreed to the arrangement. After the two men were settled, Zhao Yun and Rong Le emerged. Zhao Yun offered to see Rong Le to her room, though Rong Le insisted she rest due to her pregnancy.

Zhao Yun confessed that she missed their old days with Rong Le and Wu You, and that besides Ning Qianyi, she had no one else to talk to. She then inquired about Wu Yu’s well-being. Rong Le reassured her that Wu Yu was doing well.

Zhao Yun expressed relief and shared how she had felt meaningless before coming to Chen, but Ning Qianyi had painstakingly cheered her up every day, hiring the best doctors and chefs for her, and finding joy in her smiles. She felt more loved and important than ever before. However, she noticed that Ning Qianyi had been unusually busy lately, rushing to his study as soon as he returned home.

As they spoke, they saw a woman dressed in male attire entering Ning Qianyi's study. Rong Le, curious, asked who she was. Zhao Yun admitted she didn't know, stating that no other women besides herself and the female servants had ever been there. When Rong Le suggested investigating, Zhao Yun stopped her, explaining that it was Ning Qianyi’s private study, and no one, not even she, was permitted to enter without his permission.

Rong Le, still intrigued, remarked that the woman looked familiar. At Qianlin Court, Fu Chou confronted Rong Qi, accusing him of sneaking into his house and swapping Hen Xiang with Rong Le, causing her great suffering. He questioned how Rong Qi, as her brother, could do such a thing. Rong Qi coolly retorted that Fu Chou should ask himself why he had countless opportunities to save her but did nothing.

Fu Chou, angered, swept tea cups off a table, blaming Rong Qi for his loss of Rong Le. Rong Qi calmly stated that Fu Chou never truly possessed her, so he couldn't have lost her. Rong Qi admitted he considered killing Fu Chou but ultimately pitied him for not knowing who his true enemy was.

Fu Chou, believing Rong Qi wanted to use him to kill Wu You, declared he would not cooperate and preferred to face Wu You in a duel. Rong Qi responded that Fu Chou was the only one still blinded by lies and advised him to return to Northern Lin, warning that he would soon realize how foolish his entire life had been.

Just then, Ning Qianyi’s attendant arrived, announcing that Prince Zhenbei would host a feast in five days at Qingtian Chamber for them, and Princess Rong Le would also be in attendance. Meanwhile, Rong Le, feigning exhaustion from the journey, told Ling Yue to rest, though Ling Yue was worried for her safety. Rong Le assured her that she was safe and dismissed her, signaling her trusted attendant. She then quietly snuck into Ning Qianyi’s study.

Just as she entered, Ning Qianyi returned. She took out a dagger, ready to fight if discovered, but was then pulled back by Wu You, who appeared in dark clothes, surprising her. Wu You sternly reminded her of her promise at the School of Wisdom never to put herself at risk again. Rong Le apologized for breaking her promise, acknowledging his anger.

She explained that the ambush had happened suddenly, and someone was trying to frame her, creating a scandal throughout the Imperial Court, with officers enraged and witnesses being killed off. If Wu You were to defend her again, the people and the army would lose trust in him. Wu You questioned if she had forced him to play along and watch his "blade pierce into her."

Rong Le pleaded for him to trust her and bear with the plan, explaining that no one would believe their fallout otherwise. She emphasized that for Wu You to invade the north, he needed the army’s trust, which was already wavering due to the "Silver-Haired Demon" lies and past mutinies. She could not be the reason for soldiers to falter again, especially after he had given up the throne for her, and what happened to his mother.

Wu You gently touched her head, stating that his mother's fate was not her fault. He confessed that he felt he had let his mother down, but if given another chance, he would still make the same decision. He could not abandon her for something yet to happen. He was anxious to launch an assault on Zhongshan to avenge his parents by defeating Fu Chou and Fu Yuan, but he could not sacrifice her and make her expendable.

Calling her by her intimate name, he reiterated that he had lost both his parents and could not lose her too. Rong Le promised him that she understood her limits. Later that night, Zhao Yun, troubled by a dream in which Ning Qianyi married another woman, rushed to his study. Li Wu tried to stop her, but she insisted on entering. Ning Qianyi, hearing the commotion, came out to inquire.

Zhao Yun, tearfully recounting her dream, expressed her fear of losing him as he was all she had. She questioned why he never allowed her into his study, suspecting he was hiding another woman. Ning Qianyi, amused yet understanding her distress, decided to show her inside. Lin Shen, whose face was obscured by a hood, greeted Zhao Yun briefly, and she, feeling embarrassed, quickly returned to her room.

Lin Shen then mocked Ning Qianyi, suggesting his love for a woman was holding him back, just like Zongzheng Wu You. Ning Qianyi sternly warned Lin Shen never to harm Zhao Yun, vowing to launch a full-frontal assault and make him pay if he did. Ning Qianyi then accepted the alliance letter from Lin Shen, promising a reply in three days, and had him escorted out.

After Lin Shen left, Ning Qianyi entered a secret room in his study, where Luo Yan, dressed as a man, was hiding. Luo Yan questioned Ning Qianyi’s decision to accept the alliance letter if he hadn't decided to join them. She strongly advised against it, explaining that "they" intended to harm his friends, particularly Rong Le, who had once saved his life. Ning Qianyi, displeased, asked if she had forgotten her own ambition during her travels.

Luo Yan, looking at a book titled "The Book of Mountains and Rivers" in his hand, explained that when civil war raged in Chen, Ning Qianyi, as a young man, had saved countless lives, becoming a savior with a grand ambition in her eyes.

She recalled that when he asked for her wishes, she told him her parents died in the war, and her only wish was for war to never happen again, a wish he had also claimed to share.
