A report reached Wu You, confirming Fu Chou's presence at the border. Immediately after, the devastating news arrived: Lady Yun's tomb had collapsed, and her remains were nowhere to be found. Enraged, Wu You swore to personally end Fu Chou. Meanwhile, Rong Le grappled with the decision to take the Blood Raven Root. She felt conflicted, acknowledging Wu You's sacrifice in obtaining the herb, which had injured his hand, while simultaneously not wanting to be indebted to Fu Chou.
Her attendant, Ke'er, urged her to prioritize her health, explaining that the Blood Raven Root would not only subdue the poison in her body and restore her hair color but, crucially, also reverse the effects of Aging Frost on Wu You. This revelation deeply swayed Rong Le. Just then, Ling Yue arrived, reporting Wu You's sudden and terrifying departure from the estate after a meeting with members of the Hidden Ones.
Fu Chou's carriage was rapidly approaching Tong Pass when Wu You and his forces intercepted him. Wu You, filled with hatred, fought fiercely, causing Fu Chou's carriage to crash, intensifying his already critical injuries. Despite this, Fu Chou declared he had no regrets about coming to the south, even if it meant dying by Wu You's hand. As Wu You prepared to strike the final blow, Rong Le arrived, halting the confrontation.
Fu Chou, observing their shared white hair, mused that his past efforts had been merely a "wishful fantasy." Rong Le intervened, urging Wu You not to burden himself with the sin of fratricide, as he was the future ruler of Northern Lin, and offered to execute Fu Chou herself. Rong Le declared her intent to strike, regardless of Fu Chou's reasons, even though he claimed he was only there to deliver medicine.
Wu You, however, blocked her, asserting his right to personal vengeance, even if it meant public condemnation. He then thrust his sword into Fu Chou, accusing him of numerous crimes: regicide, the assassination of the crown prince and officials, manipulating Rong Le's life, and conspiring with Sun Jizhou to incite mutiny. Wu You added that Fu Chou's ultimate crime was attempting to use his death to burden Rong Le with guilt, which Wu You vowed to prevent.
He demanded to know what Fu Chou did with his mother's body. Fu Chou denied any involvement, stating he would never use a deceased person to hurt Wu You, claiming Lady Yun's body remained in her tomb. Their standoff was interrupted by a distant voice belonging to Fu Yuan, who warned Wu You that if he harmed Fu Chou, she would ensure he suffered lifelong pain.
Wu You was shocked to see her alive, arriving with a group of guards led by Chang Jian. Rong Le also recognized Fu Yuan as the "madwoman" who had previously broken into her carriage. Wu You immediately demanded his mother's remains in exchange for Fu Chou.
Fu Yuan, however, presented a tray holding Lady Yun's clothing, then chillingly explained that she "kindly" released her sister from the "ice-cold tomb" where she was "bored," knowing that a body dead for over a decade could not survive outside its crystal coffin. She then produced a wooden chest, confirming it contained Lady Yun's ashes, and threatened to destroy its contents if Wu You didn't comply. Rong Le interjected, urging Wu You not to risk his mother's remains.
Wu You, overwhelmed by the threat, agreed to let Fu Chou go. Fu Yuan insisted that her son first reach the safety of the carriage. Fu Chou, as he departed, expressed his quiet apology to Fu Yuan, acknowledging her actions to save him. Only then did Fu Yuan allow her soldiers to place the wooden chest on the ground. Wu You, his heart shattered, knelt to retrieve it.
However, as he gently lifted the box, a hidden mechanism activated, and the bottom of the chest sprung open, scattering Lady Yun's ashes into the wind. Rong Le immediately dropped to her knees, attempting to collect the dispersed remains, but it was a futile effort. Wu You, clutching the now empty wooden chest, collapsed into unconsciousness.
Fu Chou, witnessing Wu You's devastation, immediately instructed Chang Jian to return his mother, Fu Yuan, to the palace while he went back to the scene. Fu Yuan vehemently tried to dissuade him, reminding him of Wu You's hatred and the danger. Fu Chou, however, confessed he could not be at peace after such a cruel act, expressing his profound disapproval of Fu Yuan's methods.
During their heated exchange, Zongzheng Yunhe unexpectedly rolled out from under their carriage, adding to the chaotic departure. Later, back at the camp, Chang Jian confirmed to Fu Chou the grim truth: a hidden contraption in the chest ensured Lady Yun's ashes would scatter with the slightest touch, now likely blown away by the wind. A soldier then reported that while Prince Li and his forces had retreated, Rong Le remained alone in the snow, frantically digging for something.
Overriding Chang Jian's warnings and the doctor's advice, Fu Chou prepared to return to her. Fu Chou discovered Rong Le in the snow, frantically digging with her bare hands near where the ashes scattered (having initially used a stick until it broke). He tried to stop her, explaining that the ashes were long gone, swept away by the strong winds, leaving nothing to bury.
Rong Le, however, was consumed by despair, lamenting that she had just spent a year recovering from past traumas, only for Fu Chou's arrival to shatter her peace and cause her to lose everything again. Despite Fu Chou's attempts to comfort her and insist it was not her fault, Rong Le remained inconsolable. She bitterly agreed with Fu Yuan's implicit accusation: Wu You sacrificed everything, including his parents' memory, to save her.
She believed that while Wu You might not blame her directly, they would both be condemned to live with inescapable guilt. Rong Le then demanded Fu Chou leave her sight, never to return. Fu Chou, with a heavy heart, acknowledged his profound mistake in coming there and departed. Upon regaining consciousness, Wu You received news from Leng Yan that Sun Jizhou had escaped prison. Disregarding this, Wu You's grief transformed into a burning desire for vengeance.
He declared his intent to avenge his parents and ordered his army to gather troops and provisions for an immediate assault on Zhongshan, vowing to personally kill both Fu Yuan and Fu Chou. A servant then reported that Rong Le had not returned. Leng Yan explained his priority had been to get Wu You to safety, leading to Rong Le being left behind.
Wu You rushed back to the snowy field and found Rong Le collapsed next to a makeshift ceremonial grave she had painstakingly dug with her bare hands for Lady Yun. He embraced her, tears streaming down his face, overcome with a mixture of sorrow and affection. Meanwhile, Captain Xiao searched Sun Jizhou's residence, intercepting Ya Li and her maid Chun Ni attempting to flee. Suspecting they were trying to meet Sun Jizhou, he ordered their arrest.
Back at the palace, Ke'er and Ling Yue attended to Rong Le, whose hands were badly injured from digging. Rong Le detected the distinct taste of blood in her medicine, realizing it contained the Blood Raven Root. She refused to drink it, despite Ke'er's desperate pleas that the prolonged exposure to cold had severely worsened her poison, leaving no time for alternative treatments. Resigned, Rong Le believed her fate was sealed. At this moment, Wu You entered.
He took the bowl and drank half of the medicine himself, then gently told Rong Le that while he harbored deep hatred for Fu Chou for murdering his father and effectively causing his mother's loss, owing a favor for the herb was insignificant compared to Rong Le's life. He assured her not to blame herself, as his choices were his own. A guard then announced that Sun Jizhou was waiting outside.
Despite Sun Jizhou's recent escape, Wu You decided to meet him, acknowledging that he still had a score to settle. Sun Jizhou, claiming to have "turned over a new leaf," proposed a deal: he would provide top-secret military information about the south if Wu You agreed to invade Qingzhou and rescue his daughter, who was still there. Sun Jizhou reminded Wu You of his past support, which helped Wu You achieve his renown and become Prince Regent, suggesting his current intelligence could be equally beneficial.
