Rong Le awoke from her unconscious state to find herself face-to-face with Fu Chou. She questioned if he truly planned to launch a mutiny, but then felt foolish, admitting she no longer knew if his resolve was genuine or a mere facade. Fu Chou countered, asking if the truth even mattered to her, asserting that she would only ever confide in Wu You or risk her life to report his plans.
He challenged her, asking if she truly believed his every action was wrong and if she had ever considered his motivations. Rong Le revealed that she knew his true identity as the son of Empress Fu Yuan and that he had used an imposter to deceive the Emperor. She then urged him to abandon his plans, begging him not to stain his hands with the blood of his kin.
Fu Chou scoffed at the word "kin," comparing it to her "brother," Rong Qi. He recalled how Rong Qi had used her, causing her great pain, while his own supposed father, the Emperor, had relentlessly hunted him for five years, turning family warmth into a cold blade. He questioned if she understood the depth of his desperation. Rong Le calmly stated that there was no need for innocent lives to be shed.
She affirmed that she considered Rong Qi family, despite his actions, but insisted she would not resort to using others' lives for revenge, lest she become a villain like him. She warned that his revenge would make rivers flow with blood and ultimately lead to him killing his own father and brothers, asking what he could truly gain from an empty, cold throne.
Fu Chou coldly responded that whatever he gained would be better than having nothing, adamantly stating that the Emperor was not his father and he had nothing left to lose. Later, the Crown Prince wept over the Emperor's coffin, crying out that his father would not have been murdered if he had been by his side. Fu Chou interrupted his display of grief, pulling him to the imperial altar.
He solemnly declared that while His Majesty had passed, the campaign could not be abandoned with internal traitors and external threats looming. He proposed keeping the Emperor's death a secret, placing the coffin in a side hall, and holding a state funeral only after the rebels were dealt with. Though filled with resentment and fear towards Fu Chou, the Crown Prince reluctantly agreed.
Meanwhile, as Wu You led his southern army towards Zhongshan, a wounded Xiang Ying reached him, delivering the Inked-Jade Fan and a letter from Rong Le. Wu You quickly realized that Zhongshan was entirely under Fu Chou's control, with even the Royal Army now serving him. Deducing Fu Chou's cunning nature, Wu You concluded that Fu Chou had remained hidden in the capital, deploying his soldiers while an imposter led the campaign.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Wu You ordered Leng Yan to lead an elite troop to the main force to ensure the Emperor's safety. He expressed his concern for Rong Le, and Xiang Ying clarified that Rong Le had saved her life, earning her absolute loyalty. She explained that Fu Chou was hunting her for betraying the Creed, unaware she was delivering a letter to Wu You. That night, Leng Yan returned with devastating news.
Kneeling before Wu You, he reported with profound grief that His Majesty had been assassinated. Leng Yan revealed that Fu Chou had secretly transported the Emperor's body back to the capital, then publicly framed Wu You for the murder, accusing him of attempting to seize the throne. With the Imperial Court under Fu Chou's control, the Crown Prince had ordered the Emperor's death to be kept secret and issued instructions to kill Wu You on sight.
Furthermore, Wu Yu had been placed under house arrest. Leng Yan presented a letter written in the Emperor's own hand, found at the camp. In it, the Emperor expressed his deep paternal love and regret for having to pass the heavy burden of the throne to his son. Heartbroken, Wu You wept, vowing to protect the peace his father had sought and ensure Fu Chou's treachery would not succeed. At the General's manor, Xiao Sha advised Rong Le to rest.
Once they were alone, Rong Le gave him crucial instructions: he was to leave under the pretense of collecting medicine and never return. She handed him a personal letter, instructing him to give it directly to Wu You as soon as he entered the city. She also urged Xiao Sha to stay alive and look after Ling Yue. As they spoke, Fu Chou arrived and overheard Rong Le saying she was dying and could pass away at any moment.
He burst into the room, accusing her of faking her illness to leave him. Rong Le admitted the truth: she had been poisoned and was on the brink of death. Shaken, Fu Chou deduced that her brother, the Emperor of Qi, was responsible. He furiously demanded the antidote from Xiao Sha, whom he knew was a spy planted by Rong Qi. As Fu Chou overpowered Xiao Sha, Rong Le intervened, pleading with him to stop.
She explained that Xiao Sha no longer had Rong Qi's trust and possessed no antidote. Unable to refuse her desperate plea, Fu Chou reluctantly let Xiao Sha go. He then assured Rong Le that he would find the antidote, but she sighed, revealing that the poison had already infiltrated her organs, making a full cure impossible. Overcome with emotion, Fu Chou embraced her, professing that he would rather she live and hate him than die.
Rong Le, stating she had no time for grudges, asked if he would abandon his hatred. Fu Chou agreed, but only if she would leave with him and give him her heart in return. Later that night, Fu Chou sat in the courtyard, drinking. Rong Le quietly joined him.
Believing she had accepted his terms, a drunken Fu Chou expressed his profound regret, wishing he could turn back time to the day they met so he could have cast aside all grudges and taken her away to live a simple, hidden life.
He painted a vivid picture of a peaceful life together and swore that though he could not be with her until the end of this life, he would accompany her to the afterlife and find her in the next. The next morning, Fu Chou awoke blissfully next to a sleeping Rong Le. However, when the woman beside him awoke and called his name, he recognized the voice of Hen Xiang in disguise.
As he recoiled in shock, the real Rong Le entered the room, saw the scene, and turned to leave. Fu Chou frantically chased after her, trying to explain he had been drunk, but Rong Le was calm. She stated that no explanation was needed and that she had come to give him her answer: she could surrender her life to him and follow him anywhere, but her heart belonged solely to Wu You.
Despairing, Fu Chou accused her of using the misunderstanding as an excuse, but she insisted her answer had always been the same. He lamented his foolishness, realizing her actions were always motivated by a desire to protect Wu You. Defiantly, Fu Chou declared that he would fight against destiny, asserting that he would be the one to stay by her side until the end and die with her. In response, Rong Le stated that for this lifetime, their shared fate had reached its end.
