Rong Le and Ya Li played their lutes for everyone's entertainment. As a novice, Rong Le was not as skilled as Ya Li, relying on Chen Yu's subtle hand signals to avoid embarrassment. However, as she played, a memory of a young girl being taught to play by her father flashed through her mind, and her music became increasingly proficient, to the point where Ya Li struggled to keep up. The Emperor listened intently, a thoughtful expression on his face.
Noticing this, Fu Chou subtly placed a teacup, alerting Rong Le. Understanding the signal, Rong Le feigned an accident, snapping a lute string to bring the performance to an abrupt end. The Empress, frustrated that her attempt to embarrass Rong Le had failed, wished to return to the palace. The Emperor, however, instructed General Fu Chou to escort the Empress back, stating he had private matters to discuss with Lady Rong Le.
As they prepared to leave, Ya Li requested to stay a few more days at the General's manor, feigning a desire to learn new songs from Rong Le to play for Prince Li. The Empress, believing Ya Li intended to play for Wu You, readily agreed, instructing Fu Chou to allow it.
Alone with Rong Le, the Emperor assured her he harbored no ill will, explaining that he did not want Wu You to repeat his own past mistakes and live in regret. He sought to understand Rong Le's true feelings for Wu You on his behalf. Rong Le hesitated, admitting she was unsure. The Emperor did not pressure her but advised her to cherish the present if she wished to live without future regrets.
When Fu Chou returned after escorting the Empress, the Emperor spoke to him, acknowledging that the arranged marriage had brought Fu Chou ridicule and hardship. He declared that the alliance with Western Qi was now merely an empty pretense and that he had decided to terminate the marriage. Fu Chou's expression immediately changed. He knelt, pleading with the Emperor to withdraw the decision, claiming he had grown fond of Rong Le after months together.
The Emperor then turned to Rong Le, asking her opinion. Despite a moment of hesitation, Rong Le affirmed her willingness to accept the dissolution. Meanwhile, Ke'er, observing a group of people entering the General's manor, was indignant. Later, while exploring the streets, she impulsively took some candied berries from a vendor without paying. The vendor quickly stopped her, causing a commotion. Fortunately, Wu Yu arrived and helped resolve the dispute by paying the vendor.
Ke'er then implored Wu Yu to help her get Rong Le out of the General's manor. When Wu Yu arrived, he realized it was the Emperor visiting, so he quickly made an excuse about just passing by and hastily departed. After learning of the Emperor's decision to end Fu Chou's marriage, Wu Yu immediately sought out Wu You.
Wu You expressed surprise but also acknowledged that winning Rong Le back would require genuine affection, as any forceful method would only push her away. He also worried that Fu Chou would not surrender so easily, suspecting a larger, concealed plan behind his current patience.
At that moment, Leng Yan urgently reported news from the Hidden Ones: there were disturbances in the south, and key communication routes were blocked, making it difficult for the capital to receive immediate updates should a situation arise. Wu You, having anticipated such a scenario, instructed Leng Yan to inform the Hidden Ones to change their plans and prioritize stabilizing the southern region.
That evening, as Rong Le's maidservant helped her prepare for rest, Fu Chou burst into her chambers, loudly ordering everyone out. Rong Le demanded he show some respect, but an enraged Fu Chou retorted that she had shown no respect for him when she challenged Ya Li in front of the Emperor and Empress. Rong Le attempted to explain that she was concerned about his shoulder injury, but Fu Chou refused to listen.
He accused her of constantly overstepping boundaries since Wu You's return to the capital, citing their encounter in the water at Linglong Palace, their night at the inn during Zhao Yun's wedding, and their secret meeting at the tomb. He seized Rong Le's shoulders, angrily demanding to know what his sincerity had earned him.
He bitterly noted that while Wu You had refused to marry her, the Emperor now wanted to end his own marriage to her just because Wu You had fallen in love. He felt everyone only cared about Wu You, questioning his own significance. Consumed by rage, Fu Chou pushed Rong Le to the ground, intending to force himself on her. However, as Rong Le stopped struggling, he abruptly paused.
Seeing him regain some composure, Rong Le pushed him away and slapped him hard. She declared that he had broken their agreement, and she had nothing more to say to him, adding that she never wanted to see him again.
As Rong Le prepared to leave, Fu Chou, in a moment of desperation, pleaded that if she truly intended to depart, she must not meet Wu You again for the next three months, for the sake of the General's manor's dignity and Western Qi's honor. He threatened to die with her if she refused. Rong Le momentarily froze, then nodded in agreement. After Rong Le's departure, Fu Chou sat rooted to the spot, appearing utterly lost.
After an unknown period, he stumbled out of Qingmi Garden, looking distraught. Ya Li, witnessing his state, expressed her deep concern. Fu Chou, however, wanted nothing to do with her and immediately ordered his men to send her home. Ya Li refused to leave, gathering her courage to embrace him tightly. She confessed her willingness to abandon her family status for him, even if it meant becoming a lowly servant.
But Fu Chou did not even turn his head, merely exerting force to release her hands before resolutely walking away. Rong Le, unwilling to remain in the General's manor for another moment, instructed her servants to pack her belongings for a departure that very night. Ling Yue expressed sympathy for Fu Chou, even producing a wedding gown.
She explained that Fu Chou had hired the finest tailor to meticulously mend it, hoping one day Rong Le would wear it as his true wife. As Ling Yue held up the gown, Rong Le discovered a box hidden beneath it. Inside, to her surprise, was a letter of dissolution written by Fu Chou on their wedding night.
Upon returning to the Moon Embrace Teahouse, Chen Yu expressed astonishment upon seeing the letter and asked Rong Le about her next steps. Rong Le admitted she felt lost but was determined to sever all ties with Fu Chou, and thus decided to leave Zhongshan in three months. Chen Yu then reminded Rong Le that she once mentioned Fort Yu might hold the secrets of her past and suggested they visit it before she left.
That night, Rong Le and Chen Yu, clad in dark clothing, infiltrated Fort Yu's secret chamber. Rong Le stared intently at a painting on the wall, pondering whether she truly wished to be a daughter of the Qin family. Chen Yu comforted her, asserting that Chancellor Qin, though deceased, lived on in the hearts of many. She also recalled that this very chamber was where her father and Chancellor Qin had compiled "The Book of Mountains and Rivers."
Chen Yu believed that since Rong Le had found the secret chamber, she must have found the book and might discover more clues within its pages. Rong Le, however, revealed that "The Book of Mountains and Rivers" was not with her but with Wu You. Hearing this, Chen Yu seized the opportunity and, while Rong Le was distracted, knocked her unconscious. The next morning, Wu You received a secret letter and promptly departed.
At court, officials awaited Wu You's arrival to discuss the campaign against Wei. As Wu You remained absent, a guard reported that he had not returned since leaving the previous night. The Emperor, exasperated, hastily dismissed the court. Fu Chou returned to his manor, only to discover that Qingmi Garden was completely empty. A guard confirmed that Lady Rong Le had left during the night.
Fu Chou was furious, and the guard's report about Wu You's overnight absence at court confirmed his unsettling suspicion. Finding the wedding gown box empty and the dissolution letter gone, Fu Chou realized that this time, Rong Le truly would not return. Fu Chou tracked Rong Le to the outskirts, where Hen Xiang intercepted him. He immediately demanded to know if she was involved in Rong Le's disappearance.
Hen Xiang bitterly retorted that he always blamed her for anything harmful that befell Rong Le, but this time, he was wrong. It was Chen Yu, the person Rong Le trusted most, who had abducted her, and Chen Yu had already informed Wu You. Hen Xiang assured Fu Chou that Wu You would rescue Rong Le and that he needn't worry.
She urged him to focus on more critical matters, stating that their plan was in motion and this was a crucial time. Fu Chou, however, insisted on pursuing Rong Le, ready to use force against Hen Xiang if she stood in his way. Hen Xiang refused to move, declaring that even if he killed her, no one else in the world would truly care for him.
