The Prince and Hen Xiang arrived at General Fu Chou's manor to discuss official matters. Hen Xiang watched Fu Chou's evident care for Rong Le, and though consumed by jealousy, she maintained a composed facade. During their drinks, Hen Xiang, feigning inebriation, expressed a desire to visit Rong Le. Fu Chou attempted to escort her, citing Rong Le's aversion to alcohol, but the Prince intervened, dismissing Fu Chou's hesitation regarding women and comparing them to disposable clothing.
Meanwhile, Rong Le, under the influence of wine from Prince Zhenbei, gazed at the wooden carving she had made of Wu You. Ling Yue, fearing Fu Chou's reaction, urged her to put it away. Drunkenly, Rong Le retorted that while she would uphold her agreements and stay within the manor, no one could control her heart, which she admitted, she herself could not control.
Hen Xiang, also drunk, overheard this and confronted Rong Le, asserting that if she couldn't control her heart, she shouldn't remain there. Seeing the escalating tension, Ling Yue rushed off to find Fu Chou. Hen Xiang then accused Rong Le, stating that Fu Chou's heart belonged solely to her, yet Rong Le's held another man. Imagining Fu Chou's heartbreak upon seeing the wooden doll, Hen Xiang lunged for it. In their struggle, the doll fell and broke in two.
Rong Le, distraught, questioned Hen Xiang's right to interfere, lamenting her inability to love whom she wished and asking if even this last memento was forbidden. She then drew a parallel, noting that despite Hen Xiang marrying the Prince, her heart still yearned for Fu Chou. The two women, equally wounded by love, realized their shared predicament: both were bound by circumstances, without control over their lives or families. Finding solace in their mutual plight, they embraced.
Later, the Prince tasked Fu Chou with selecting a noblewoman to marry Prince Zhenbei, hoping to secure an alliance before Wu You could intervene. Fu Chou deflected, asking if the Prince had already chosen a woman for the next day's banquet. The Prince cryptically revealed that he had arranged not only a potential bride for Prince Zhenbei but also a "great show" for Wu You, intended to make his comeback impossible.
Following this, the Prince requested to leave Hen Xiang at Fu Chou's manor for the night, fearing his mother-in-law would discover Hen Xiang and report it to the Emperor. As Fu Chou hesitated, Ling Yue burst in, reporting that Rong Le and Hen Xiang were fighting. However, when the men arrived, they found the women fast asleep, leaning intimately against each other.
The Empress hosted a banquet for Prince Zhenbei, announcing a hidden treasure in the Imperial Garden, to be claimed by whoever found it. Zhao Yun, eager to find it for Wu Yu, surmised the treasure would be a horse bit or whip, as Ferghana horses were Chen's most precious asset. Sun Ya Li approached Rong Le, subtly boasting of Wu You's care for her while inquiring about Rong Le's private matters with Fu Chou. Rong Le offered only brief replies.
During their conversation, Ya Li noticed the Prince speaking with a handmaiden, who then approached Rong Le, stating the Empress requested her presence. Ya Li felt a twinge of suspicion but did not act on it. The handmaiden led Rong Le to the Exquisite Hall to wait. Shortly after, the handmaiden "accidentally" spilled tea on her clothes and directed her to an inner room to change.
Concurrently, Wu You was also led to the Exquisite Hall by a handmaiden, under the guise of an Empress's summons. Upon entering, Wu You sensed something amiss and discovered Rong Le in the inner room, disoriented and weak from a pervasive incense. Under its influence, Rong Le looked at Wu You with dazed allure. Wu You tried to lead her out, only to find the door locked.
Outside, Ya Li inadvertently bumped into the Prince, who tried to harass her, but Fu Chou intervened. The handmaiden then reported to the Prince that everything was ready, and the Prince loudly invited everyone to witness his "grand show." Fu Chou, sensing something sinister, was alerted by Ya Li that this was the same handmaiden who had led Rong Le away. A realization struck Fu Chou, and he immediately rushed after the Prince.
The Prince declared he would expose Wu You and Rong Le in a compromising situation. Fu Chou, understanding the Prince's intent, tried to block the entrance but failed. Inside, the room was empty. While the Prince frantically searched, Fu Chou quickly noticed the unusual incense. The handmaidens insisted both Wu You and Rong Le had entered, pointing to a bathroom behind the main chamber as their hiding place.
As the Prince prepared to burst into the bathroom, Fu Chou stopped him, offering to go himself. He argued that if Rong Le was alone, the Prince's intrusion would be indecent and further displease the Emperor, who was already upset over Hen Xiang. The Prince relented. Fu Chou entered, immediately closing the door behind him. Past the screen, he found Rong Le fully clothed in the bathtub, visibly distressed.
Their eyes met, and Fu Chou lifted a wooden cover over the tub, revealing Wu You submerged beneath. Fu Chou's anger flared, but Rong Le's desperate pleas tempered him. His voice thick with pain, he feigned normalcy, asking Rong Le if she had accidentally fallen in, and left his outer robe for her before exiting. The Prince, still suspicious, insisted on checking the bathroom himself.
Fu Chou restrained him and whispered a litany of his wrongdoings—including bribery, the Yu family massacre, and the drugged incense—causing the Prince to freeze and abandon his insistence. After everyone departed, Ya Li offered to help Rong Le change, but Fu Chou politely declined, stating it was a private family matter. Ya Li was left to suspect another man had been inside, astonished at Fu Chou's tolerance.
Once everyone had left, Fu Chou arranged for his guard, Chang Jian, to escort Rong Le back to the manor, and he departed as well. However, shortly after Rong Le left, Fu Chou re-entered the room just as Wu You emerged. Unable to contain his rage, Fu Chou punched Wu You forcefully. He warned Wu You to stay away from his wife, but Wu You retorted that Fu Chou should focus on protecting her himself.
Meanwhile, Zhao Yun searched for the treasure to surprise Wu Yu. He appeared and gave her a simple grass-woven ring, which annoyed her. As they argued, Prince Zhenbei's guard arrived to invite Wu Yu to a side chamber. After Wu Yu left, the guard discreetly placed the actual treasure—a horse whip in a wooden box—in Zhao Yun's path, ensuring she found it.
