Yun Shu originally wanted to refuse Zhang Sinian. After all, pretending to be his girlfriend was a bit too outrageous. But when she saw the grandfather being wheeled into the hospital bed was the same old man she met in the garden that morning, she stepped forward and willingly lent a hand. After the grandfather entered the operating room, Zhang Sinian waited outside anxiously and restlessly.
Yun Shu brought him a cup of coffee and told him that having something was better than nothing. As the surgery inside was being carried out nervously, time outside seemed to crawl unbearably slowly. Yun Shu handed Zhang Sinian a Sudoku puzzle to keep him occupied and help ease the tense atmosphere. Yun Shu comforted Zhang Sinian, assuring him that his grandfather would be fine.
She also explained that she was staying at the hospital for the night and just happened to come across his grandfather's situation. Zhang Sinian asked if she had found a place to rent during this time. Yun Shu told him that all her money had gone into buying a house, and since her sister was currently abroad, everything would be resolved once she found a job. Zhang Sinian sincerely apologized for canceling Yun Shu's graduation defense.
Yun Shu accepted his apology, admitting that while she was angry, she did bear some responsibility as well. After learning that the surgery had gone smoothly, Yun Shu left early. Zhang Sinian chased after her and, as a gesture of gratitude, invited her to stay at his place for a month and gave her the door code. Yun Shu tried the door at Zhang Sinian’s place for a long while but still couldn’t get it open.
Shortly after, Zhang Sinian texted her, telling her the password was the first ten digits of the Feigenbaum constant, and said she could stay at his home until she found a place. When Yun Shu entered the apartment, she found it extremely neat and organized. After all the detours, she unexpectedly ended up staying here—Professor Zhang had “picked her up off the streets.” If her sister found out, she’d definitely kill her. Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
When the delivery guy saw Yun Shu opening the door, he casually called her “sister-in-law.” Yun Shu had no choice but to sign the receipt under that name. Out of kindness, she helped Zhang Sinian arrange all the photos in the package and tidied up. Afterward, she sat on the sofa to draw and soon fell asleep there. When Zhang Sinian came home and saw the exhausted Yun Shu, he didn’t wake her.
Upon entering the room and seeing that Yun Shu had arranged the photos for him, he felt a bit guilty. He took a blanket to cover her but, having never interacted closely with a girl before, he ended up covering her entire face with the blanket just to feel at ease. In her sleep, Yun Shu dreamt of her cousin. Realizing she hadn’t been scammed, she felt incredibly relieved and began wriggling under the blanket.
Zhang Sinian thought she was suffocating and quickly pulled the blanket off. As he leaned in, the chocolate stick he was eating accidentally fell into Yun Shu’s mouth. He rushed to retrieve it, but just then Yun Shu woke up and headbutted him, causing a nosebleed. Zhang Sinian quickly turned away and dealt with the emergency. At that moment, Yun Shu’s sister called to check on the new house.
Yun Shu hastily made up an excuse and ended the video call. After the call, Zhang Sinian explained some house rules for the stay. He offered the study room as her bedroom. Yun Shu wanted to express her gratitude but explained that she had no money. However, she could do some household chores in return. The next morning, Zhang Sinian got up early to wash up, while Yun Shu hurriedly got out of bed and clumsily made a terrible breakfast.
Zhang Sinian couldn’t stand it anymore and offered to handle it himself. Yun Shu watched in awe as Zhang Sinian expertly prepared a flawless breakfast. Once it was done, the always-scheduled Zhang Sinian skipped his own breakfast time and left the meal for Yun Shu. At school, Zhang Sinian informed his colleagues that he had already arranged everything concerning his grandfather and wouldn’t need to adjust his teaching schedule.
Meanwhile, Yun Shu went to a real estate agency to look for a suitable place to live. But with only a little over a thousand yuan in her pocket, she had to temporarily give up and asked the agent to keep an eye out for listings. When Zhang Sinian learned that his grandfather was emotionally unstable, he rushed to the hospital. Upon arrival, he found that once Yun Shu showed up, his grandfather calmed down.
Yun Shu took care of the grandfather skillfully. The grandfather asked her about her background and learned that she had previously cared for her own father for over six months. When Zhang Sinian entered the room, Yun Shu went out to get water because the grandfather said he was thirsty. Grandpa Zhang told Zhang Sinian that he had dreamt of two quantum particles and expressed his wish for Yun Shu and Zhang Sinian to get married.
Seeing the nurse suddenly rush into the grandfather’s room, Yun Shu followed without hesitation. Not knowing what the grandfather had requested, she readily agreed, saying that as long as he focused on recovery, both she and Zhang Sinian would comply. In a moment of panic, Zhang Sinian had no choice but to agree as well.
