Pegasus Episode 8 Recap
> Pegasus Recap
Zhang Chi first met Sun Yuqiang at a karting club where they raced. Zhang Chi complimented Sun Yuqiang's driving. Sun Yuqiang was later introduced to Ye Gong and joined the team. Discussions about forming a racing club covered requirements like technique, time, perseverance, and money, with team members confirming their commitment. This led to the establishment of the Speeding Racing Team. Years later, after Zhang Chi suffered an injury, the Speeding Racing Team faced difficulties.
Ye Gong confided in his friend Xiao, revealing he had mortgaged his house for the team and lost his family. Xiao urged him to accept that things wouldn't work out, but Ye Gong spoke of his dream to take the team's young members to Dakar. Hospital staff were also heard discussing Zhang Chi's injury, confirming he could no longer race, and mentioning that the team had lost sponsors and advertising, suggesting their situation was dire. Eventually, the team disbanded.
Shen Xiting met with Lin Zhendong and discussed his second personality. She noted that his second personality possessed specific knowledge, such as the Speeding Racing Team's internal 15-second tire change record, which she discovered wasn't an official record. She also highlighted his ability to accurately predict events related to races and his concern for the team's destiny, leading Lin Zhendong to hypothesize, albeit finding it absurd, that his second personality might be Zhang Chi from the future.
The next day, as Lin Zhendong packed for his trip to the UK, taking a childhood racing trophy with him, he received a call from Ye Gong informing him that the Speeding Racing Team had disbanded, leaving Lin Zhendong with a sense of regret. Ten days before his scheduled departure for the UK, while recovering in the hospital, Zhang Chi overheard nurses discussing his injury and learning he would never be able to race again.
Upon his discharge, Zhang Chi found the Speeding Garage doors closed. As he looked around, the doors opened to reveal his teammates holding a welcome party. They presented him with a large statue, a "guard beast" they made to wish him safety after leaving the hospital. When asked to name it, Zhang Chi called it "Superstar Ye," noting its resemblance to Ye Gong. The team agreed this statue would be their spiritual totem.
The team held a barbecue by the lake. Amidst the casual atmosphere, Ye Gong gave a speech celebrating their success, having achieved championship status in four years instead of the planned six. He then proposed a "strategic transition" for the team, suggesting they shift focus to becoming a profitable, comprehensive auto service company. The other team members readily agreed, excited by the prospect of having a "serious job." Zhang Chi, however, saw this as abandoning their racing dreams for money.
He stated he would not participate in this transition. Recognizing their true motivation was likely to stay together despite his injury, he decided he couldn't hold them back any longer. He then formally announced his decision to withdraw from the Speeding Racing Team, mentioning that rivals were already trying to poach team members and he didn't want to be a burden. The team members reacted with visible emotion to Zhang Chi's announcement. Later, Zhang Chi spoke with Li Xiaohe privately.
He harshly told her to stop focusing on him and think about her own future, rejecting her offer to start a business together. In an effort to push her away and because he felt "useless," he falsely claimed he had never seen her as anything more than a colleague or friend, despite her obvious feelings. Li Xiaohe left, heartbroken.
A flashback revealed that Zhang Chi had swallowed his pride and asked his rival, Wei Qianli, to help arrange a job for Li Xiaohe at Xingchuang Finance, conceding that Wei Qianli had defeated him multiple times in the past. Zhang Chi returned home, where he reminisced about his childhood with his grandfather.
He recalled promising his grandfather that despite his poor school performance, he would grow up to become a world champion racer and use the prize money to support him in his old age. At the airport, preparing for his departure to the UK, Lin Zhendong received a call from Ye Gong informing him that the Speeding Racing Team had disbanded. This news made him hesitate about his travel plans. Meanwhile, Ye Gong attended the 2022 CCRC season press conference.
The conference announced new rules for rookie selection and, significantly, the return of the Dakar Rally qualification race after seventeen years, with the top six CCRC racers competing for the single spot to represent China, receiving top resources. Wei Qianli's Master Racing Team introduced their new racers, Li Aoduo and Wan Zihe. When it was Speeding's turn, Ye Gong took the stage.
After thanking supporters, he formally announced the dissolution of the Speeding Racing Team, stating they would not participate in upcoming CCRC events. Elsewhere, other Speeding team members were facing difficulties and dismissiveness in their new jobs after the dissolution. Upon seeing Ye Gong's announcement on their phones, their resolve was reignited. They rushed to the press conference. Just as Ye Gong finished, they arrived and declared that the Speeding Racing Team had not disbanded and would continue in professional racing.
Lin Zhendong then stepped forward, introducing himself as the new racer for Speeding. He directly challenged Wei Qianli, expressing gratitude for a past "valuable lesson" and stating his intention to win the rookie competition to secure the single Dakar spot.
