Gao Jie ignored an incoming call from Yu Zhi as Si Cheng arrived to deliver the competition rules. Si Cheng noticed Yu Zhi's name on Gao Jie's phone and seemed to take note. Yu Zhi waited downstairs at Gao Jie's company with flowers, but Gao Jie did not respond to his WeChat messages, instead staring blankly at a leaf. When Gao Jie finally appeared, she rejected Yu Zhi's pursuit, telling him, "I think we don't suit each other."
She thanked him for his care in Southeast Asia, suggesting he "take what happened between us as a wonderful experience" and assured him he would find someone more suitable. Before Yu Zhi could ask for clarification, Gao Jie left with Chen Pinzhen. Chen Pinzhen couldn't help but ask Gao Jie why she refused Yu Zhi, noting it could lead to lifelong happiness.
Gao Jie admitted she was afraid to like Yu Zhi, explaining, "I don't want to inflict any trouble on him. I don't want my family to experience anything that will disrupt the peace we now enjoy." She feared giving him a chance meant risking disappointment for herself. Yu Zhi waited persistently at the entrance of Gao Jie's alley.
Gao Jie firmly reiterated her rejection, but Yu Zhi was convinced she liked him, claiming, "the more you want to run away from me, the more it proves that you like me." He left her an invitation to a jewelry exhibition, stating he would wait for her there, or at her home if she didn't show. Gao Jie reluctantly accepted the invitation.
At the jewelry exhibition, Gao Hui seemed agitated that only Yu Yi had arrived, constantly scanning for Yu Zhi. Meanwhile, Director Zhou provided Wu Xiaoci with Gao Jie's information. Wu Xiaoci was furious upon confirming Gao Jie was Pan Yue's daughter, muttering about fate and coincidence that Pan Yue's daughter had also become a designer. Director Zhou offered Wu Xiaoci a proposal: if she and Gao Hui joined Fancy, they could adjust the list for the Ingenuity Jewellery Designer Contest.
Wu Xiaoci said she would consider the offer. Yu Zhi waited for a long time at the exhibition entrance, but Gao Jie, holding the invitation and the leaf, hesitated outside. Separately, Gao Hai found a secluded spot to offer Pan Yue some of her favorite snacks. Pan Yue's grandfather, witnessing this, angrily pulled Pan Yue away, rebuffing Gao Hai's explanations of years of guilt and blaming him for Pan Yue's current condition.
Gao Jie eventually entered the exhibition and returned the invitation and the leaf to Yu Zhi, insisting they were incompatible. Facing Yu Zhi's persistent questioning, she adamantly refused to be in a relationship, claiming she no longer liked him. Just then, Gao Jie received a phone call from Pan Yue. Yu Zhi drove Gao Jie home, where Pan Yue, frightened by her grandfather's anger, immediately ran into Gao Jie's arms.
As Gao Jie cautiously led her mother inside, Yu Zhi noticed a childlike butterfly drawing by Pan Yue in the courtyard. Gao Jie, realizing Yu Zhi had seen, conceded there was no longer a need to hide. She stated they were unsuitable because her family situation was "a trouble" for most people. Yu Zhi dismissed her concerns, but Gao Jie remained resolute, insisting they were from different worlds and she did not want to make a decision she would regret.
Earlier, Yu Zhi had returned home and called Mu Ziyun "Auntie" to his grandmother's delight. His grandmother then offered him an interview for Rui Hua. Yu Zhi presented a plan to his grandmother to expand the Gem Inlay Group with Yu Yi, having gained experience in diamond and colored gemstone companies abroad. He mentioned a purchase contract for the Astor mining area and proposed allocating agency income to the Inlay Group.
He also revealed plans to cooperate with Wu Xiaoci from Cilian for product and brand establishment. His grandmother agreed to review the idea once he finalized the partnership with Wu Xiaoci. Yu Zhi later confided in Yu Yi that he was merely "testing the water" with their grandmother and that their plan was still hopeful.
Yu Yi, however, warned Yu Zhi that Mu Ziyun had "deep roots" and could not be easily removed unless there was "evidence that will shake the foundations of Rui Hua." Yu Zhi countered that Mu Ziyun's focus on real estate had caused Rui Hua's stagnation, which "was" shaking its foundations, and vowed to bring her down. Yu Yi reminded him that success hinged on securing Wu Xiaoci's partnership and not letting down their guard against Gao Hui.
Gao Hui was furious at Yu Yi for Yu Zhi's absence from the jewelry exhibition, and Yu Yi later pressed Yu Zhi about his behavior. Yu Zhi admitted he had fallen for a unique girl he met in Southeast Asia. He shared his frustration that Gao Jie had initially accepted his feelings but then changed her mind without a clear reason, feeling she was hiding something.
Yu Yi advised him to ask her close friends and noted that Gao Jie's best friend, Chen Pinzhen, was a member of his rock climbing gym. Gao Jie received a bouquet of roses, initially assuming they were from Yu Zhi, but realized the delivery address was incorrect and mused that the "one who can't forget" was actually her. Chen Pinzhen, feigning a card cancellation, lured Gao Jie to the rock climbing gym, revealing she was helping Yu Zhi.
Yu Zhi then whisked Gao Jie away to a restaurant he frequented in childhood. He recalled a birthday when his father, Yu Guanghua, didn't show up, and the restaurant owner made him car-shaped braised pork. Seeing the dish now, Yu Zhi was lost in thought, remembering his mother.
He shared stories of his mother with Gao Jie, wanting her to understand that his world was also complex and that he envied her for still having her mother and a happy family. He then took out a bracelet his mother had given him and asked Gao Jie to repair it, stating she was as important to him as his mother, and vowed he would never let her go.
Meanwhile, at the rock climbing gym, Yu Zhi and Gao Hui had a competition arranged by Yu Yi using "Bingo LinkGame" rules. Yu Zhi initially tried to avoid it but eventually agreed to a bet: if Gao Hui won, she could order him around for a day; if Yu Zhi won, she would agree to his request. Yu Zhi won the challenge, and Gao Hui, though disappointed that Yu Zhi immediately turned to business, agreed to collaborate with Rui Hua.
Later, Gao Hui waited for a call from Yu Zhi, but only received one from Yu Yi. Wu Xiaoci advised Gao Hui to "string along" the Yu brothers rather than be controlled by them. Gao Hai had been leaving early and returning late, which Wu Xiaoci attributed to his involvement with an art exhibition. At home, Pan Yue's grandfather told her a story before leaving.
Gao Hai arrived with butterfly-shaped cookies for Pan Yue but hesitated outside, then left, encountering Gao Jie returning home. Gao Hai, noting Gao Jie was only two years old when he left, tentatively confirmed her identity. Gao Jie brought the leaf back home. There, she found neighbors causing a commotion with her grandfather, and Pan Yue was crying and hiding under a table. It took Gao Jie a long time to coax Pan Yue out.
Her grandfather explained that earlier, Pan Yue had accidentally broken the arm of a neighbor's child, Pingping, while trying to push him out of the way of a blue car. The neighbors, however, were making a scene, calling Pan Yue a "retard" and saying she brought "bad luck," claiming she was the reason Gao Jie couldn't find a boyfriend.
Gao Jie comforted Pan Yue, assuring her she did not mean to harm Pingping and promising to buy her favorite butterfly-shaped cookies as a reward for saving him. Pan Yue, however, still heard the neighbors' words and asked Gao Jie if she brought her bad luck and was why she couldn't find a boyfriend. Gao Jie lovingly told her it wasn't true and that she just wanted to stay with her and Grandpa.
Watching Pan Yue finally fall asleep, Gao Jie deeply reflected on the neighbors' comments, realizing, "With my family situation, meeting a man willing to bear this burden with me is nearly impossible." She longed for someone to protect her and provide a sense of security.
