My Poseidon Episode 5 Recap
> My Poseidon Recap
Drowsy and alone at home, Ye Hai experienced a vivid hallucination or dream. He saw a black-clad figure, an "ocean warrior" identical to himself, emerge from the surging sea, clutching a trident. Ye Hai angrily confronted this mysterious figure, who he believed had disrupted his life, demanding to know his identity and what he desired. The figure, with a cold, arrogant demeanor, identified himself as "Hai from Ye's family" and claimed to have saved Ye Hai's life.
When Ye Hai, exasperated, offered anything to make him leave, the figure scornfully called him "so stupid." The figure then pointed the trident at Ye Hai's "boat in bottle" necklace and chanted "Amphitrite," instantly shattering it and causing massive waves to crash around them. Startled, Ye Hai woke up, feeling the experience was too real to be dismissed as a mere dream.
He instructed his assistant to investigate all records from 13 years ago and research "Amphitrite" to uncover the entity's true identity and intentions. The assistant, concerned for Ye Hai's mental state, urged him to rest, but Ye Hai insisted the figure posed a threat to him, Hanhai Corporation, and potentially An Fei. He ordered his assistant to keep his investigations secret and to find a woman named "Amphitrite" who shared a similar condition.
Later, Ye Hai met Lin Huayin for dinner. Lin Huayin, initially flirtatious, probed Ye Hai about his recent activities, noting his uncharacteristic involvement with Hanhai. Ye Hai explained that his brother, Ye Tian, had revealed their grandfather's will to complete "the Poseidon experiment," which motivated him to understand the ongoing situation. Lin Huayin, however, attempted to subtly undermine Ye Tian, asserting that their grandfather intended Ye Hai to control the company and that Ye Tian's efforts were "useless."
Ye Hai immediately cut her off, sternly reminding her that Ye Tian was his brother and that he found such divisive talk unacceptable. He claimed his brother was superior to him, while he himself was merely a cynical individual preoccupied with trivial matters. Lin Huayin, unconvinced, retorted that she knew him better than he let on.
Across the restaurant, Ye Hai observed An Fei earnestly presenting a collection of carefully chosen and personally named stones to Mo Liang, openly expressing her admiration. Mo Liang, visibly awkward, gently refused the heartfelt gift. Unable to watch An Fei humble herself, Ye Hai intervened. He told Mo Liang to accept the gift and then pulled An Fei away, criticizing her for speaking "so humbly" and allowing herself to be laughed at.
Mo Liang attempted to defend An Fei and their private conversation, but Ye Hai dismissed him, implying Mo Liang enjoyed An Fei's subservience. An Fei resisted Ye Hai, telling him to mind his own business and stating she didn't need his care, even calling him "sick." In response, Ye Hai defiantly challenged, "You know I have a problem. How about I demonstrate it once for you?"
As Lin Huayin attempted to calm the escalating tension by ordering crab dishes, Ye Hai suddenly froze, his eyes distant. He then collapsed onto An Fei and the incoming crab dishes, sending them both crashing to the floor. Both were rushed to the hospital. In the ambulance, a different, aggressive personality briefly surfaced from Ye Hai, callously berating An Fei, who was bleeding from her eyebrow, for her "silly face" and low intelligence.
At the hospital, after An Fei's injuries were addressed, Ye Hai's assistant approached her, explaining that Ye Hai's erratic behavior was a recent phenomenon following an accident, and he swore that Ye Hai would never intentionally harm her. He urged An Fei to understand. An Fei, remembering Ye Hai's prior help, agreed to stay. Later, in the hospital room, An Fei, intrigued by Ye Hai's fragmented narratives, prompted him to continue his story.
Speaking in a gravely altered voice, Ye Hai, now identifying as Poseidon, confessed he was "finding a person," specifically a woman, to "apologize" to. He recounted a past life where he and his wife lived happily until "something happened and she left all of a sudden," driving his quest to "find her back" for forgiveness. An Fei, attempting to grasp the situation, asked if he was claiming not to be Ye Hai.
He firmly declared, "I'm not Ye Hai, I'm Poseidon," though An Fei still addressed him as Ye Hai. An Fei discreetly recorded this confession. The next morning, Ye Hai was appalled by the recording of his own words. He angrily confronted his assistant for leaving him alone with An Fei, fearing his alternate persona might have harmed her. Though his assistant assured him of Poseidon's respect for An Fei, Ye Hai, still deeply unsettled, went to An Fei.
He apologized, stating he couldn't explain his behavior, and declared he would "keep distance" from her and "won't come for you anymore." An Fei, understanding, accepted his apology and agreed to maintain distance, confirming she would no longer dive with him. Back home, in his grandfather's study, Ye Hai discovered old diary entries revealing a profound truth: after a childhood shipwreck, his metabolism had drastically slowed, and his left brain had largely frozen.
His grandfather had undertaken a perilous, experimental procedure, implanting an AI chip in Ye Hai's brain to reactivate his nerves and remodel his brain, thereby saving his life. The standby chip was carefully placed inside his "boat in bottle" necklace. Re-listening to Poseidon's recording, Ye Hai became increasingly alarmed by his alter ego's quest to find a woman for forgiveness, especially given the mention of "Amphitrite," and worried, "What on earth is he going to do to An Fei?"
Ye Hai's assistant attempted to lighten his mood by showing him a video featuring women comically auditioning for roles as Greek goddesses, including Amphitrite, the "Queen of the Ocean" and Poseidon's wife. Ye Hai, unamused, dismissed them as "drama queens" and instead made his assistant laugh continuously. Meanwhile, Ye Hai received a call from his older brother, Ye Tian, who expressed concern for his health.
Ye Hai reassured him he was fine but insisted on investigating the full truth before disclosing details. Ye Tian urged him not to delay treatment and offered for Ye Hai to move back into their family home, but Ye Hai declined, asserting he knew his body best. Ye Tian, frustrated by Ye Hai's tendency to isolate himself in times of trouble, eventually conceded, advising him to take care and "remember who you are."
Still trying to gain control, Ye Hai confined himself at home, but Poseidon, impatient with being dormant for three days, manifested again while Ye Hai was in the bath. Ye Hai impatiently questioned his intentions. Poseidon, boasting about his past feat of submerging Mount Olympus, taunted Ye Hai for his perceived weakness, calling him a mere "tap valve." Ye Hai, unperturbed, challenged him to "Flood the Taohua Island first," to which Poseidon scoffed, calling him "stupid" and "naive."
Poseidon then reiterated his demand: "Ye Hai, I need you to find me a woman. . . And get her forgiveness." Ye Hai, exasperated by the continuous disruptions for such a seemingly trivial request, scornfully asked if that was "all" he wanted, calling Poseidon "disappointing." Ye Hai declared, "I'm not you. I only like one woman." Poseidon then cryptically stated, "Maybe that's the same woman I need." Furious, Ye Hai retorted, "Screw you! She's not the person you're looking for.
Keep away from her," before wondering how Poseidon could appear so frequently. At the Hanhai Corporation, An Fei's colleague, Ming, informed her of a bizarre company-sponsored "Finding Amphitrite" activity, which Ming speculated Ye Hai had initiated due to a "brain problem." Ming explained that "Amphitrite" was the "Queen of the Ocean, Poseidon's wife," and noted that the first two syllables of the name matched An Fei's.
An Fei found this utterly perplexing, admitting Ye Hai's transformations made her suspect he was "fascinated with folklore" and imagined himself a god. As An Fei meticulously prepared for her upcoming re-examination and diving skills assessment, Ming gave her a lucky amulet for good fortune, emphasizing its "placebo effect" even though An Fei was an atheist.
An Fei then dedicated herself to her work, assigning her internship group to gather extensive data on land and sea plate movements and the underwater ecosystem. Meanwhile, desperate to find a pattern or trigger for Poseidon's appearances, Ye Hai questioned his assistant about any unusual behaviors before his transformations, but the assistant could only state that Ye Hai "just suddenly changed" without warning. Ye Hai then observed that Poseidon seemed to be drawn to water.
Convinced he had found a weakness, Ye Hai enacted a drastic plan: he ordered all water and cups removed from his home, declaring his intention to "thirst him to death." His assistant voiced concerns about the self-harm this would cause, but Ye Hai, determined not to be controlled, brushed him off, even ordering two more crab dishes. He also dismissed his assistant's warning that Lin Huayin was concerned about his condition affecting the lab's equipment.
An Fei, focused on her work, received a phone call from her mother in Thailand, who excitedly announced she had won the lottery. An Fei, seemingly unfazed, congratulated her briefly and ended the call, jesting that her mother could contact her if she wanted to share any money. The following day, as An Fei continued working diligently in the lab, Lin Huayin unexpectedly arrived, observing her intently.
