My Poseidon Episode 10 Recap
> My Poseidon Recap
Mo Liang questioned Liu Lan about the extensive exploitation sectors marked on a map, reminding her that the Poseidon experiment was primarily for scientific research, not resource exploitation. Liu Lan dismissed his concerns, explaining it was merely an estimation and a plan to satisfy potential sponsors for future operations. She reaffirmed her commitment, stating she had returned specifically to work alongside him. Although Mo Liang remained somewhat skeptical, he ultimately chose to believe her.
Meanwhile, outside the laboratory, reporter Qiu A Ming was taking photos when Duan Xiche approached her. Identifying herself as a reporter, she tried to interview him about the project’s current status. She specifically asked about Ye Hai, who had previously interfered with the equipment. Duan Xiche claimed not to know Ye Hai, which Qiu A Ming found hard to believe, noting that her intern friend knew him well.
Qiu A Ming then probed about Ye Hai’s reasons for preventing sonar deployment and his recent trip to Greece, hinting at an "insider" who had provided her with details. After handing Duan Xiche her business card, Qiu A Ming abruptly left. Duan Xiche, intrigued by the mention of an "insider," kept her card. Ye Hai and An Fei encountered critically injured dolphins on the beach. An Fei noted their severe wounds and dehydration, stressing the urgency of treatment.
Believing the situation was more complex than it appeared, she suggested contacting the Marine Administration or local police. However, at the Marine Administration, their reports were dismissed as exaggerated. A staff member claimed the Greek sea was pristine, a popular tourist destination, and a hub for seafood trade, asserting that any admission of pollution would harm their economy. He attributed the dolphin injuries to human hunting, not pollution, and assured them their waters were secured and clean.
He then sternly told Ye Hai and An Fei to leave, warning of trouble if they continued to be unreasonable. Left with no alternative, they decided to seek help elsewhere. The Poseidon laboratory then received its new equipment, but the team's excitement quickly turned to frustration when they discovered a broken breaker. Many, including Mo Liang's team, suspected Ye Hai was responsible for the sabotage.
Mo Liang instructed Kang Hao to investigate if the device could be repaired, acknowledging they couldn't afford further delays. Meanwhile, Duan Xiche contacted Ye Hai, or rather Poseidon speaking through Ye Hai, to report that the sonar was broken and the lab staff believed they were playing a trick. Duan Xiche then asked An Fei if she knew reporter Qiu A Ming, and was pleased to confirm they were friends, even commenting on Qiu A Ming's professionalism.
He also mentioned that his brother and Lin Hua Yin were considering replacing the high-frequency sonar, with a launch scheduled for the following Friday. Worried, An Fei tried to call Mo Liang, but Liu Lan answered, claiming Mo Liang had forgotten his phone and was too busy. Liu Lan informed An Fei that one of the machines appeared to be "infected" by someone, causing delays and putting Mo Liang under immense pressure.
When An Fei directly asked about the high-frequency sonar, Liu Lan confirmed that the plan was already set and would start soon, implying Mo Liang had agreed due to An Fei's absence and the pressing tasks. This news deeply troubled An Fei, making her want to return to China. An Fei, exhausted and frustrated after her phone call with Liu Lan, complained to Ye Hai, blaming him for all the troubles and accusing him of sabotaging the equipment.
Ye Hai, however, deflected her accusations, stating he had no desire to argue. He then revealed that the dying dolphins they had seen were not victims of human hunting, but had been harmed by high-frequency sonar. He criticized the Marine Administration for covering up the truth, noting that the scope of sonar use was on the police station table.
Instead of returning to China to confront the Poseidon team, Ye Hai convinced An Fei that it would be more effective to stay and address the immediate threat of marine pollution. An Fei, recognizing his point, agreed to his proposal.
That night, as Ye Hai and An Fei walked along the beach, Ye Hai continued to needle An Fei about Mo Liang's apparent affection for Liu Lan, implying Mo Liang only had eyes for Liu Lan, just as An Fei only had eyes for dolphins. An Fei, upset, told him to stop, and as she became sad, it began to rain. Suddenly, Poseidon took over Ye Hai's body.
He spoke philosophically about enduring love, quoting Lermontov, then dismissively told An Fei she was "stupid" for feeling love. They then noticed a group of fishermen celebrating a large catch. Poseidon intervened, demanding they release all the fish. The fishermen, angered by his interference, immediately turned hostile and began to attack them. Realizing the danger, Poseidon urged An Fei to run. As the fishermen chased them, Poseidon retreated, leaving Ye Hai in control.
Ye Hai, nursing a fresh injury from taking a punch, tried to bribe the angry fishermen with money, but they refused and continued their pursuit. Just as they were about to be caught, a local boy named Jason intervened and led them to a safe haven: the home of Dr. C. An Fei thanked Jason for their rescue.
Ye Hai, seeing extensive information about the Poseidon experiment in Dr. C's home, questioned Dr. C's keen interest in the project, speculating that his research into energy conservation and Caribbean exploratory experiments might have put him at odds with energy exploiters and overfishers. Upon hearing Ye Hai’s name, Dr. C realized he was the same Ye Hai he had performed the chip transplant surgery on years ago and an acquaintance of Ye Hai's late grandfather.
Dr. C criticized Han Hai's funding of the Poseidon experiment, stating it went against his and Ye Hai's grandfather’s original intentions, as they had previously collaborated on a similar project but halted it due to insufficient technology and a fundamental disagreement with exploitation, fearing its consequences. Dr. C, asserting the principle of respecting and saving the ocean, took An Fei and Ye Hai to the shore.
He echoed Ye Hai's grandfather's words, noting that while the sea might appear clean, its depths harbored no marine life. Ye Hai, keen to understand the extent of the damage, volunteered to dive, despite Dr. C's warnings about the severe corrosion on the seabed and the dangers to amateurs. Ye Hai specifically asked if the energy source Dr. C had mentioned was beneath them, and expressed a desire to witness the consequences of excessive frequency use.
Dr. C then revealed that years ago, he and Ye Hai's grandfather had discovered a new energy source capable of replacing natural gas and oil. However, they found that its exploitation would gradually extinguish marine life and, without proper storage, would cause severe seawater pollution. This realization, coupled with the tragic accident involving Ye Hai’s parents, led his grandfather to halt the project and return to China.
Dr. C then questioned why the current Poseidon experiment claimed to have solutions while rampant pollution and resource shortages were fueling piracy in the region. An Fei observed the severe marine pollution. Dr. C further cautioned them about the pervasive influence of pirates in the region, particularly Andrew. Unbeknownst to Ye Hai and An Fei, the fishermen who had attacked them earlier were Andrew's men.
They were now actively searching for the pair, furious that their fish had been released and concerned that publicizing the water pollution would ruin their livelihood. Andrew had instructed his men to capture Ye Hai and An Fei and expose them to the media. Ye Hai recognized Andrew as a pirate and hinted at a personal vendetta, asking Dr. C about the circumstances of his parents' deaths, but Dr. C deferred the sensitive conversation, stating it was not the time.
Before diving to photograph the underwater conditions and understand the extent of the damage, Ye Hai told An Fei that he had placed backup intelligent microchips in a bottle on the ship, hoping they might be useful. He then playfully asked An Fei for a kiss for strength, and she urged him to be careful. After Ye Hai surfaced, Dr. C left to compile a report on the new discoveries.
An Fei confirmed she had sent the photographic evidence to Qiu A Ming for publication, carefully specifying that it was not directly related to the Poseidon experiment to manage public opinion. Ye Hai mused that Poseidon might now feel detached from life, having not found what he sought and seeing his beloved ocean in such a degraded state.
As they walked on the beach, Andrew’s men, the same fishermen from before, confronted them again, accusing An Fei of leaking information to the media and causing them to lose their livelihood. Ye Hai jokingly pointed at An Fei as the culprit, then quickly shielded her as the fishermen attacked. He was wounded while protecting her, but they managed to escape further into the chase. Suddenly, Jason appeared and bravely stepped between the attackers and the injured couple.
He pleaded with his father, who was among the fishermen, to spare them, insisting Ye Hai and An Fei were good people trying to protect them. An Fei seized the moment to highlight the devastating effects of the pollution, directly showing Jason’s body to reveal his illness, which she implied was a consequence of the contaminated environment. Faced with this undeniable truth about their own children's suffering, the fishermen were deeply moved and ceased their attack.
Jason's father then agreed to take his son to the hospital. To combat marine pollution, Ye Hai announced that Han Hai would, under his name, buy back all contaminated seafood from the fishermen and implement testing for future catches. This decision caused an uproar among Han Hai’s board members, who viewed it as an unnecessary expense that would turn the company into a charity.
During a heated board meeting, several members suggested temporarily suspending Ye Hai’s directorship and appointing Ye Tian in his stead. Ye Tian, while defending his brother’s actions as aligned with their family’s principle of saving the ocean, expressed his own private concerns to Duan Xiche. He felt Ye Hai had changed since returning from Greece and was inadvertently causing more trouble, despite his good intentions. Meanwhile, Duan Xiche, seizing the opportunity, called reporter Qiu A Ming.
He identified himself as an intern from the Poseidon lab and, sensing her interest, offered to gradually disclose details about Ye Hai’s recent activities, including his investigation into the severe pollution in Greece.
