Ning Yi saved Lu Hongti and observed her aloofness, but respecting her as a heroine, he kindly offered her a small courtyard—a secret place his friend used to avoid his wife—for temporary shelter while she recovered. Ning Yi introduced himself as Ning Yi, courtesy name Liheng, childhood name Jiang Haochen, and told her that anyone wearing the "Zhu" emblem could be commanded by her if she ever needed assistance.

Soon after, Ning Yi selected a location for the Zhu Restaurant, declaring his four friends—Li Pin, Feng Yuan, Shen Miao, and Gao Qiu—as the founders and shareholders who contributed ideas and capital. He attributed the greatest credit to Nie Yunzhu, stating that the idea for preserved eggs came from seeing her duck eggs. Despite her modesty, Ning Yi insisted she become the Master of Zhu Restaurant, as most customers came for her, viewing her as the establishment's "poster girl."

The others agreed, and Nie Yunzhu accepted the title deed. Ning Yi also presented his newly designed "trademark" or emblem for the restaurant and mentioned he had a solution for Yuan Jin'er regarding Commandant Song. On its grand opening day, Zhu Restaurant buzzed with customers. Nie Yunzhu, initially nervous, gained confidence from Ning Yi's encouragement.

He reminded her of her brilliance at the Puyuan Poetry Meeting and urged her to embrace her new role as the capable manager of Zhu Restaurant. This boosted her self-assurance, allowing her to greet guests warmly and skillfully resolve customer disputes, such as when Shen Miao accidentally spilled something on a customer, for which she offered a discount on drinks and complimentary side dishes.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Han’s annual attempt to visit Master Qin (Qin Siyuan) ended in vain, as he was once again refused entry. Master Qin, accompanied by Master Kang (Kang Xian), surprised Commissioner Han by showing up at Zhu Restaurant. Ning Yi enthusiastically welcomed them. Master Kang and Master Qin praised Ning Yi's preserved eggs. Seizing the opportunity, Ning Yi asked them to name his new dishes, which they christened "Jade Amber" and "Drizzle Lingering."

Commissioner Han, observing the esteemed elders interacting warmly with Ning Yi, was visibly flustered and left without a word. Back at his residence, Commissioner Han, now eager to curry favor, praised Ning Yi's intelligence and close ties to Master Qin and Master Kang. He then requested Ning Yi to deliver a worship letter to Master Qin, asking how Ning Yi managed to get acquainted with such influential figures.

Ning Yi, after examining the letter and finding two gold leaves inside, returned them, stating that "courtesy demands reciprocity," and subtly implying a request for a favor in return for his help in delivering the letter. Faced with this indirect pressure, Commissioner Han immediately agreed, and unexpectedly transferred the entire Jiangbei silk business, including the tributary cloth rights, to Su Tan'er, even commending Ning Yi's capabilities to her. Su Wenxing was baffled by his uncle's sudden change of heart.

Commissioner Han explained that Ning Yi’s ability to casually converse with Qin Siyuan and Kang Xian proved he was not someone to be trifled with, advising Su Wenxing to give up competing with Ning Yi to avoid further humiliation. He even returned Su Wenxing's commission. To counter the Wu’s family's monopoly, Su Tan’er met with Boss Xue, who was frustrated by the scarcity and exorbitant prices of silk in Jiangning.

Su Tan'er proposed a collaboration: she would sell her newly acquired Jiangbei silk to Boss Xue at a price below market rate. Her strategy was to force the Wu's family to release their monopolized silk, effectively making them "spit it out." Concurrently, Ning Yi intensified his scheme by leveraging his connections at Yuan Jin'er's New Gate Art House and Zhu Restaurant.

He spread rumors that the imperial court would significantly increase its demand for tributary cloth due to ongoing northern conflicts, leading to a surge in silk prices. He also subtly circulated news that Boss Xue would soon release a batch of Jiangbei silk to the highest bidder, inciting widespread interest and a scramble among merchants to secure silk supplies. Upon hearing the news, Wu Qihao was eager to sign a contract for the Jiangbei silk.

However, his more cautious father, influenced by Manager Xi, advised against it. Manager Xi, a trusted aide, suspected it was a trap orchestrated by Ning Yi, especially given that the silk had passed through Su's Second Master's hands before reaching Ning Yi. They decided to wait and observe the situation. To further provoke the Wu's family, Ning Yi’s friends, including Li Pin, visited Wu's Cloth Store.

They openly discussed Ning Yi's desperate measures to acquire silk, including borrowing money from an illegal private bank to secure Boss Xue's order. A secret message was also sent to Manager Xi, inviting him to a meeting at Zhu Restaurant. After Manager Xi left hastily, Ning Yi's friends loudly questioned his sudden departure, ensuring that Wu Qihao's informants would relay the suspicious activity to him.

Manager Xi, after his humiliating encounter with Ning Yi at Zhu Restaurant, quickly realized he had been played. Ning Yi had deliberately insulted him, calling him a "matrilocal husband" (a jab at Ning Yi's own status) and offering him preserved eggs as a "gift." As Manager Xi tried to leave, he spotted Wu Qihao's carriage, confirming his fears.

He attempted to explain, but Wu Qihao, already convinced of Manager Xi's betrayal, dismissed him coldly, telling him to return to the Su family and only speak to him when "the smell of those preserved eggs disappeared." Convinced by the rumors and Manager Xi's perceived betrayal, Wu Qihao confronted Boss Xue, demanding to know the buyer of the Jiangbei silk.

Boss Xue, bound by a non-disclosure clause, initially refused but eventually revealed that Ning Yi had bought it, paying the full amount at a price Boss Xue simply couldn't refuse. Wu Qihao, scoffing at Ning Yi's supposed inability to handle the royal silk business, declared he would offer double the price Ning Yi paid, confident that Ning Yi would eventually default on the contract. Unfazed, Ning Yi continued his counter-offensive.

He sent Guard Geng, who introduced himself as "Geng Zhi, the angel of fortune," to meet a silk supplier. Geng Zhi subtly spread rumors about Wu Qihao offending Commandant Song, implying the Wu family's future in the tributary cloth business was now uncertain. Ning Yi then offered the supplier a staggering fifteen times the original price for his silk, including payment for any breach penalty with the Wu's family.

Despite initial hesitation due to an existing contract, the supplier, seeing the immense profit and Ning Yi’s commitment, eagerly agreed. Ning Yi instructed the supplier to relay his offer to other silk merchants, stating he would buy as much silk as they could provide.
