> My Heroic Husband Recap

An aspiring novelist receives a text message from Editor Deng, urging him to conclude his long-running business war novel featuring Jiang Haochen and pivot to a more popular, comedic genre. Although initially disheartened, the writer feels a deep connection to his protagonist, sensing Jiang Haochen’s unwillingness to simply end. He calls Editor Deng, adamantly insisting that Jiang Haochen remain the central figure of his next story.

The writer proposes a complete transformation of Jiang Haochen’s identity, appearance, and name, but maintains that the essence of the character must persist. Editor Deng, more interested in the new comedic direction, agrees. In the writer's new narrative, Jiang Haochen is betrayed by his trusted associate, Tang Mingyuan, during a press conference for their company, Jiangyuan Group, and its riverside park project.

After being knocked unconscious by Tang Mingyuan’s men, Jiang Haochen transmigrates to the Wu Dynasty, awakening in a new body as Ning Yi. A young maid named Chan informs Ning Yi that his name is indeed Ning Yi, courtesy name Liheng, and that he is an orphan with few friends. To his dismay, he discovers he is soon to be a matrilocal husband, marrying into the affluent Su family, renowned cloth merchants in Jiangning.

Despite his initial shock at this "new identity," Ning Yi resolves to leverage this second chance to rise again. Ning Yi requests to meet his future bride, the Su family’s eldest daughter. Chan explains that the young lady is preoccupied with preparations for both the new store's opening and the wedding, making it a dual celebration. Ning Yi expresses humorous anxieties about his fiancée's temperament, fearing potential domestic abuse.

He is then directed to try on his wedding robe, where he laments the loss of his former physique, including his abs and pecs. Meanwhile, the true Su Tan'er is engrossed in her dye workshop, meticulously preparing the exquisite Twilight Cloud Gauze for her new cloth store. Guard Geng informs her of Ning Yi's awakening and apparent amnesia, while also reminding her to try on her wedding gown.

Too busy, Su Tan'er asks Auntie Niu, a trusted family servant with a similar build who helped raise her, to try on the wedding dress in her stead. Ning Yi, observing Auntie Niu in the bridal attire, mistakenly assumes she is his intended bride and is dismayed by her mature appearance, prompting him to plot an escape. Ning Yi packs a bag and attempts to flee but is spotted and pursued by Guard Geng and other servants.

He hides beneath a large table in the main hall. News of his escape reaches Su Zhongkan and his son, Su Wenxing, who are delighted by the potential misfortune. They conspire, hoping Su Tan'er's failure to marry will force her to marry outside the family, thus allowing them to claim control of the Su family's assets, including the newly opening store. Su Tan'er returns home and, upon learning of Ning Yi's disappearance, frantically searches for him.

Inside the hall, Su Zhongkan and Su Wenxing attempt to persuade the Elder Master that Ning Yi's "madness" and disappearance invalidate the marriage, arguing for their right to manage the new store. Ning Yi, overhearing their plot from under the table, initially remains silent. However, a few silkworms crawl into his clothing, causing him to stir and reveal his hiding spot. Discovered, Ning Yi confronts Su Zhongkan and Su Wenxing, who mock his peculiar behavior.

Annoyed by their chauvinistic badgering of Su Tan'er, Ning Yi passionately defends women's capabilities, citing historical female figures in the textile industry like the Weaving Maid and Leizu, and asserts that women are more suited to understand female customers. Impressed by Ning Yi's unexpected wisdom, the Elder Master overrules Su Zhongkan and Su Wenxing, confirming Su Tan'er's authority over the new store. Ning Yi then requests a private word with "Miss Su," still believing it to be Auntie Niu.

He attempts to politely decline the marriage to the older woman by suggesting they become sworn brothers, only to turn and discover the genuinely beautiful Su Tan'er standing behind her. Realizing his embarrassing error, his resolve to escape vanishes. Su Tan'er leads Ning Yi away, acknowledging his changed demeanor since waking and expressing concern about him causing further trouble. She clarifies their pre-existing agreement: their families had an engagement, but Ning Yi's family fell into debt to the Sus.

His decision to become a matrilocal husband would clear his debts, provide him with living expenses, and ensure his care for life. Ning Yi humorously concludes he's being "kept" as part of a "transaction." To safeguard herself, Su Tan'er proposes a written contract, stipulating that any misbehavior from Ning Yi would result in him being reported for unpaid debts, leading to three to five years of imprisonment.

Ning Yi readily agrees, confident in his ability to help her secure the Family Representative Seal, seeing it as a minor task compared to his past billion-dollar business deals. He adds a condition: once she obtains the seal, she must grant him a letter of divorce, making him a free man. Su Tan'er promptly drafts the contract, including the divorce clause. Ning Yi, without reading, affixes his fingerprint.

He then attempts to suggest they share a room, but Guard Geng swiftly intervenes, escorting him to his separate quarters, clarifying that such an arrangement is not part of their agreement. Meanwhile, Su Zhongkan and Su Wenxing plot again, hoping Ning Yi’s amnesia will lead to a public humiliation at the wedding as he fails to recognize guests, thus discrediting Su Tan'er. Su Tan'er’s mother expresses concern over her daughter's heavy responsibilities.

However, Su Tan'er remains resolute, asserting her innate talent for dyeing and her determination to pursue her business ambitions, stating she has no regrets about her chosen path. She hands her mother a robe for her father, Su Boyong, hoping for his attendance at the wedding, unaware that he was the mastermind behind Ning Yi's initial attack. Concerned about Ning Yi’s performance, Su Tan’er provides him with 58 portraits of wedding guests, instructing him to memorize them all by night.

Ning Yi feigns diligence, but as soon as the guards depart, he falls asleep, plagued by nightmares of his past assault. The next morning, Chan is busy with wedding preparations. Ning Yi, still affected by his restless night, watches as a bridal sedan arrives to take him to the wedding. He vehemently protests the idea of a man riding in a sedan typically reserved for brides, finding it undignified and humiliating.

Despite his strong objections, he is ultimately compelled to enter the sedan chair, resigned to his fate as a matrilocal husband. Chan and Guard Geng understand his reluctance, acknowledging that adapting to the role of a matrilocal husband will take time.
