Aman's passing brought deep sorrow to Qiqi and the palace maids in her residence, as they steadfastly believed in his innocence. Qiqi confessed that while she once found Aman annoying, she now felt an emptiness without him. Lian Qiao affirmed her trust in Aman, declaring that they were now a family, sharing prosperity and facing adversity together, vowing not to let Qiqi bear burdens alone.

Meanwhile, Jie, the Crown Prince of Beicang, questioned his Man of Sacrifice regarding the failed assassination attempt on Chou Qingli. The Man of Sacrifice asked why, if the goal was to eliminate Lv Ao, he hadn't targeted Lv Ao directly. Jie explained that Chou Qingli was Chou Hu's daughter, a general who had caused many casualties among Beicang's ranks.

By assassinating her and framing Yiqi, Chou Hu's morale on the front lines would collapse, allowing Beicang to gain a strategic advantage. Jie instructed his subordinate to remain patient, as the real scheme had just begun. After Chou Qingli's face was disfigured, Consort Ling gloated, certain that His Majesty would now belong solely to her. She even considered adopting Chou Qingli's tactics, including the chrysanthemums make-up, to secure His Majesty's affection. The next morning, Qiqi’s face was miraculously healed.

Believing it to be a powerful elixir from Luo Jiuchen, she lauded his medical prowess. Despite His Majesty’s decree confining her to her residence, Qiqi attempted to escape. Lian Qiao tried to stop her by clinging to her legs, but Qiqi cleverly created a diversion, allowing her to climb over the courtyard wall. She lost her footing and fell, but was caught by Lv Ao, who was passing by. Startled by her restored appearance, Lv Ao kissed her.

Qiqi, recalling that the Blood Jade usually reacted to physical contact with Lv Ao, pulled him back for another kiss to test her theory. This time, as Lv Ao's sword clattered to the ground, the Blood Jade remained inert. Qiqi promptly fled the scene, leaving Lv Ao to ponder his next move, eventually deciding to head towards Yixuan Yard, Consort Ling's residence. Word of Chou Qingli’s recovered beauty quickly spread throughout the palace.

Consort Ling, hearing that His Majesty had openly kissed the Ugly Lady, became consumed with jealousy. She immediately ordered her maid to remove her chrysanthemums make-up, a style Lv Ao himself had just told her was ill-fitting. Shortly after, Lv Ao arrived at Consort Ling’s chambers and instructed her to collaborate with Chou Qingli in organizing Consort Dowager Gao’s birthday banquet.

Consort Ling voiced concerns about Chou Qingli’s inexperience, her unfamiliarity with palace etiquette due to her upbringing on the border, and her recent recovery from illness. However, Lv Ao was resolute, stating that his request was an order, not an invitation for suggestions. Consort Ling, despite her displeasure, outwardly agreed, promising to fully support Chou Qingli and oversee the banquet herself. That night, Qiqi was restless, unable to banish the memory of Lv Ao's kiss from her mind.

Lv Ao, equally troubled and surprised by his own infatuation, rose to practice his sword, seeking to channel his inner turmoil. The following day, Consort Ling brought an etiquette instructor to Qiqi, tasking the strict instructor with teaching Chou Qingli proper courtly manners for the upcoming banquet. Qiqi tried to feign a stomachache to avoid the lessons, but the astute instructor saw through her trick and ordered maids to escort her to the lavatory.

With her escape route thwarted, Qiqi reluctantly submitted to the rigorous training. The instructor was exceptionally harsh, forcing Qiqi to practice elegant deportment while balancing heavy water buckets. After an entire day of strenuous exercise, Qiqi's body ached from exhaustion. Lian Qiao tearfully pleaded with the instructor to allow Qiqi a brief respite, but the instructor not only refused but also struck Lian Qiao.

Incensed by this, Qiqi ordered her guards to restrain the etiquette instructor, commanding that she only be released after the birthday banquet to prevent her from reporting the incident. Qiqi reviewed the seating charts and guest list for the banquet, observing the large number of attendees and the extravagant preparations. Consort Ling arrived shortly thereafter, critically surveying Qiqi’s plans and dismissing them as uninspired and conventional.

Despite Consort Ling’s taunts, Qiqi confidently vowed to deliver an unforgettable birthday celebration for Consort Dowager Gao. On the day of the banquet, Qiqi, overseeing the feast’s cuisine, discovered that the fruit wine had been forgotten. She quickly went to retrieve it herself. Upon reaching the kitchen, she noticed the lid of the wine jar was open but paid little attention. While there, she encountered Lv Che, who had stopped by to check on the banquet preparations for his mother.

Qiqi assured him that all the unique dishes had been sent out and encouraged him to try them later, before reminding him to change out of his casual attire before the banquet began. During the banquet, Consort Dowager Gao was very pleased with the innovative snacks, commending Chou Qingli's efforts. Qiqi then performed a zither piece, much to Consort Dowager Gao’s delight. However, the zither string suddenly snapped, leading to murmurs among the guests about bad omens.

Just then, Lv Che arrived, playing a flute, and Qiqi gracefully began to dance to his melody. Lv Ao was visibly entranced, even dropping his wine cup, though he feigned indifference, claiming the dance was "too flashy to be elegant." Amidst the harmonious atmosphere, Lady Li suddenly became disoriented and began to act erratically, staggering towards Lv Ao and Consort Dowager Gao. Simultaneously, many ministers in the hall collapsed.

Upon examination, a physician reported that the banquet wine contained Spica Prunellae. The doctor further explained that Spica Prunellae, while not inherently toxic, becomes poisonous when combined with Hibiscus, which was likely also present. After receiving an antidote, the affected guests were quickly stabilized. Lv Ao recalled a childhood incident where he suffered a severe allergic reaction to Spica Prunellae after being given Hibiscus flowers by a young girl.

Realizing that only a select few knew of his rare allergy, he concluded that the poisoning was a targeted attack against him. Hearing the unfolding events, Consort Ling immediately ordered Chou Qingli's arrest.
