My Calorie Boy Episode 28 Recap
> My Calorie Boy Recap
Concerned for her daughter, Xu Jingjing's mother, who had been absent from home, met with Manager Huang from the agency. Worried that Xu Jingjing might sign with an unreliable company, she sought to understand it better. Manager Huang reassured her, explaining that Xu Jingjing had decided to wait until after her college entrance exam to make any decisions. He added that the company respected this and valued artists with strong academic backgrounds.
Later, Xu Jingjing's father arranged a reconciliation between mother and daughter. He gently reminded Xu Jingjing of her mistake in deceiving her mother about an exam, asking if she would apologize if her mother supported her choices. Xu Jingjing's mother then entered, admitting she had been too self-absorbed and hadn't realized how much pain ballet had caused her daughter. Xu Jingjing, in turn, apologized for her deception and expressed her desire for her mother's support.
Her mother, though unfamiliar with street dance, pledged to learn about it, having watched videos and found them "quite cool." They then shared a meal, solidifying their reconciliation. After failing his sports specialization test, Xiong Shuai decided to quit school to avoid burdening his parents and began working with them at the vegetable market. His friend, Ni Dapeng, visited and tried to convince him to return, even offering to cover his training and re-enrollment fees. However, Xiong Shuai was adamant.
Distraught that he wouldn't even receive a high school diploma, Xu Jingjing devised a plan. She, along with Kang Jiawei, Gao Zhan, Ni Dapeng, Lu Xiaobai, and Wang Jiayao, visited Xiong Shuai's stall and bought all of his vegetables, clearing his inventory for the day. Their teacher, Miss Chen, learned of their actions and, while understanding their intentions, urged them to focus on their studies, assuring them the school was communicating with Xiong Shuai's parents. The students redoubled their efforts.
When a power outage occurred, they used their phone flashlights to insist Miss Chen continue her lesson. After class, they gathered on the playground to shout motivational slogans, and Kang Jiawei put Xiong Shuai on speakerphone so he could hear their collective encouragement. They implored him to return, vowing to face the college entrance exam together.
The next day, Xiong Shuai returned to school, thanking his friends for not giving up on him and joking about the specific vegetable diets they must have endured. He and Gao Zhan promised to help with any academic difficulties, reaffirming their class's united front. Before the second mock exam, Kang Jiawei drew a lucky card for Xu Jingjing as part of their ritual.
He then confided in her his frustration that his father, Kang Minzhi, hadn't told him about his cancer sooner, robbing him of time together. During the exam, Kang Jiawei received an urgent call and rushed to the hospital. Kang Minzhi was in critical condition. Though the surgery was successful, he remained in a coma and was moved to the ICU. Worried, Xu Jingjing received a message from Kang Jiawei asking if any of his father's homemade oat bars were left.
She found the last one and dashed through the pouring rain to the hospital, finding Kang Jiawei sitting alone outside. He tearfully revealed the cancer had spread and wondered if the oat bar was the last thing his father would ever leave him, comparing his prolonged emotional agony to an unbearable "five seconds" he couldn't escape. The next morning, after staying with Kang Jiawei all night, Xu Jingjing curtly dismissed her classmates' questions about him.
At the hospital, Kang Jiawei's mother informed him that the doctors had issued a notice of critical illness for his father. She then unintentionally revealed that Xu Jingjing had known about his father's illness for some time and had helped care for him. Enraged, Kang Jiawei stormed into the cafeteria and confronted Xu Jingjing. He accused her of hiding the truth and robbing him of two precious months with his father.
Xu Jingjing tearfully apologized, explaining his father had forbidden her from telling him, but Kang Jiawei, consumed by grief, was inconsolable. At home, Kang Jiawei's mother found him ill on the sofa. He rebuffed her attempts to care for him, accusing her of abandoning him and his father years ago.
He then smashed the gifts she had sent over the years and played a video he had recorded, bitterly asking why she had returned to find him, "this thief, this sinner," who had stolen her life. Standing outside his room, his mother tearfully apologized, explaining she left the marriage for her own sake, not because of him, and that he was never a thief to her. Finally, Kang Jiawei opened the door and embraced her. Together, they resolved to wait for his father to come home.
