Following the events at the hospital, Xu Yiren, unable to sleep after taking medicine for her fever, finds Fang Zhiyou and starts a conversation, asking why he never lies. After she playfully guesses a few lighthearted reasons, Fang Zhiyou shares a story about a friend whose family was destroyed by a single lie, which led to his father developing dementia and his mother's death. This friend, he explains, vowed never to lie again.
He reveals that the elderly man they visited, Li Jinghong, is the father of that friend's best friend. His friend has been quietly caring for the man for years, hoping to see his own friend again but also fearing the reunion. Xu Yiren realizes the story is about Fang Zhiyou himself, expressing surprise that someone from such a privileged background has such a tragic past.
Fang Zhiyou dismisses her sympathy, warns her not to tell anyone, and sends her to bed. During the night, while checking Xu Yiren's temperature, Fang Zhiyou is surprised when she hugs his neck in her sleep and mumbles "Mr. Fang." He quickly covers her eyes and leaves the room. The next morning, Xu Yiren wakes up to find a note from Fang Zhiyou, who has already left.
He instructs her to eat the breakfast he prepared and wait for his return. Meanwhile, Fang Zhiyou secretly visits Li Jinghong's hospital room, where he is found by Li Zhe. Li Zhe reveals he orchestrated Liu Tianyang's defection with the Xingcheng project as a "greeting gift" and declares this is just the beginning. He vows to make Fang Zhiyou lose everything as revenge for an incident thirteen years prior.
When Fang Zhiyou returns to the hotel, he finds Xu Yiren asleep on the sofa and mistakes her for having fainted again. As he leans in to check on her, she wakes up abruptly, and they bump heads, causing her nose to bleed in a moment of clumsy panic. Later, at a company meeting for the Huaxing project, Fang Zhiyou emphasizes the need to understand their competitors. He seeks volunteers for case analysis and proposal writing.
A young intern volunteers but is curtly dismissed by Fang Zhiyou as unqualified. Witnessing this and feeling untrusted after his own recent disloyalty, Liu Tianyang hesitates to step forward. With no other volunteers, Fang Zhiyou assigns the task to Xiang Wei and Sun Ziyang. After the meeting, He Yuwen overhears colleagues gossiping and mistakenly thinks they are talking about Xu Yiren and Fang Zhiyou spending the night together.
She confronts Xu Yiren, who explains that her car broke down, forcing them to stay at a hotel, but insists they stayed in separate beds. He Yuwen warns her that the biggest taboo for an assistant is falling for her boss. Later, He Yuwen expresses her concern to Fang Zhiyou about competing against her father, He Yuliang, for the Huaxing project, as Fang Zhiyou has never won against him. He dismisses her anxiety, urging her to focus on strategy.
Their conversation is cut short by a call from his younger sister Fang Shiyu's elementary school. Fang Zhiyou takes Xu Yiren with him to the school. They learn that Fang Shiyu posted a pre-braces photo of her classmate, Jiang Doudou, on the school bulletin board to defend another friend, Linlin, whom Jiang Doudou had been bullying for her small eyes. Jiang Doudou's mother demands that Shiyu be transferred.
Fang Zhiyou defends his sister's actions as not illegal, but Xu Yiren steps in to mediate. She proposes that if Jiang Doudou apologizes to Linlin first, Shiyu will then apologize to Jiang Doudou. Shiyu immediately agrees. On the way home, Shiyu astutely observes the bickering between Fang Zhiyou and Xu Yiren, deducing they like each other. She praises Xu Yiren for understanding her and calls her brother a "hardcore steel straight man" for being so difficult.
The next day, Gu Bo takes Xu Yiren to dinner to ask for advice on winning back Xia Di. He plans to impress her by becoming a high-level gamer and gifting her expensive items. Xu Yiren advises him to leave Xia Di alone for now, as she is struggling with a creative block for her comic, but Gu Bo believes this is the time she needs him most.
Meanwhile, after Fang Zhiyou rejects Xiang Wei and Sun Ziyang's proposals again, Xu Yiren approaches Liu Tianyang. She fabricates a story, claiming Fang Zhiyou wants him to lead the project but is too proud to ask. She suggests Liu Tianyang volunteer, giving Fang Zhiyou an easy way to accept. Wary of being tricked again but persuaded by her reasoning, Liu Tianyang agrees to trust her.
