Jialan, startled by their closeness, pushed He Zhengyu away, jokingly claiming she was electrocuted while fixing a light fixture. When she teased him about being hurt, he apologized, citing the "comradeship" they formed while handling Li Ziqiang's case. Curious, Jialan asked about Li Ziqiang's family. He Zhengyu then took her to a noodle shop they both frequented and showed her Li Ziqiang’s wife, now recovered from surgery thanks to the demolition funds, running a barbecue stall outside.
He also mentioned that Li Zili had become a delivery rider, just as Li Zili himself entered the shop. He Zhengyu instinctively pulled Jialan into an embrace, hiding his own face so Li Zili wouldn't see them together. After Li Zili left, He Zhengyu paid for their meal, explaining that Jialan's 2021 money was useless in his 2022 timeline. He stated that he doesn't disturb former clients after a case is closed, as it was simply his duty.
Impressed, Jialan admitted she had misjudged him, acknowledging his surprising good qualities. To understand him better, Jialan initiated a rapid-fire Q&A, asking if he loved his profession, cleanliness, and red wine, before trying to trick him by asking if he loved Jirong. He Zhengyu saw through her ploy, firmly stating that Jirong was his good friend's fiancée and that he felt no romantic or ambiguous feelings for her.
As he continued speaking, the time-space overlap ended, and He Zhengyu suddenly vanished, leaving Jialan alone. In 2021, Jialan went with Jiang Shenghao to a luxurious villa he had purchased and decorated for Jirong, a secret he asked Jialan to keep. Jialan invited Jirong to her apartment that evening to learn how to make desserts. However, Jirong later called to cancel, leaving Jialan disappointed.
Jialan then received a thank-you letter from Li Ziqiang and was moved to tears, but her emotions were cut short when He Zhengyu from the future appeared. Unfazed by Jirong's cancellation, he explained that as a lawyer, he was used to receiving all kinds of letters and wasn't easily moved. Forgetting it was now four months in the future and near freezing, Jialan went out to buy ingredients.
He Zhengyu followed, draping his jacket over her and wrapping her in a scarf while chiding her about the cold. Distracted by the moment, neither saw an approaching motorcycle, which struck Jialan and scraped her ankle. A concerned He Zhengyu took her to a pharmacy, treating the wound and buying her a lollipop. There, he took a call from his parents, telling them he couldn't come home for Chinese New Year due to a case.
As the call ended, he vanished again, warning Jialan that their time was up. Before the wedding, Jiang Shenghao was photographed with an ex-girlfriend, sparking cheating rumors. He explained to Jirong and her brother, Wu Anwen, that it was a setup. Wu Anwen demanded he sign a prenuptial agreement stipulating that if he cheated, he would forfeit all marital assets. Jiang Shenghao refused, arguing their love couldn't be quantified by money, and Jirong supported his decision, trusting him completely.
Later that night, at exactly 10:06 PM, Jirong arrived unexpectedly at Jialan's home. She was surprised to see He Zhengyu in pajamas, leading Jialan to falsely claim they were hers from a "buy one, get one free" deal. He Zhengyu pulled Jialan aside, warning her not to interfere with his important conversation with Jirong.
He then urged Jirong to reconsider the marriage, pointing out she barely knew Jiang Shenghao's background or his history as a philanderer, even naming an ex, Chen Kexin. Furious, Jialan pulled him away, accusing him of trying to ruin the marriage. To prove his point, He Zhengyu showed her a news article from the future detailing Jirong's divorce from Jiang Shenghao over infidelity. Jialan refused to believe it.
Jirong left, declining He Zhengyu’s offer for a ride and insisting Jiang Shenghao would take her. Distraught, Jialan later confronted and physically assaulted Jiang Shenghao, calling him a "bastard." However, He Zhengyu (from 2022) then informed her that Jiang Shenghao had not cheated. Jirong had messaged him from a nursing home, explaining it was all a misunderstanding and that she wanted to spend Chinese New Year with Jiang Shenghao to reconcile.
Filled with regret, Jialan said she owed Jiang Shenghao a big hug as an apology. Hearing this, He Zhengyu spontaneously hugged her, leaving both of them confused by his involuntary action. At the 2021 wedding rehearsal, Jialan's heart raced upon seeing He Zhengyu, but she reminded herself this was the cold, "old" version, not her future roommate.
Paired with him by matching corsages, she offered a handshake of reconciliation, which he coldly rejected, stating their only connection was through their friends. When he offered his legal services, she retorted that he wasn't her target client and cheekily asked for a discount, which he flatly denied. Feeling awkward over their height difference, Jialan switched partners. Shortly after, the wedding director had to take an urgent call and asked He Zhengyu to temporarily lead the rehearsal, referring to him as a brother to Jirong.
