Love Formula Recap
Episode 1 Recap
It was the start of a new school year, and Jian Dan, a student from Shenmu Village with distinct curly hair, arrived at the university brimming with excitement, pulling her suitcase behind her. Meanwhile, campus heartthrob Han Yansheng glided effortlessly through the campus on a unicycle. A girl called out to him, offering a custom-made cake she had painstakingly prepared. Han Yansheng, eager to avoid her, accidentally bumped into Jian Dan, sending her tumbling to the ground.
Annoyed, he assumed Jian Dan was with the other girl, sternly lecturing them that he disliked sweets and found such overt attempts to get close to him old-fashioned, believing he owed them no apology. Jian Dan, indignant, demanded an apology for being knocked down. The cake-bearing girl, later identified as Yue Tangtang, tried to impress Han Yansheng by citing his published math paper on the Poincaré Conjecture. He challenged her understanding, which she struggled to articulate.
Jian Dan, however, stepped in and fluently explained the conjecture, defining its significance in topology. Before Han Yansheng could react, he received a call and had to leave. During the commotion, the cake accidentally splattered onto his shoulder. Visibly angered, Han Yansheng walked away, leaving the two girls and attracting curious glances. Upon reaching her dorm, Jian Dan began to unpack.
Her roommate, Mi Fen, a girl with a penchant for fortune-telling, enthusiastically greeted her and offered a reading using her homemade "luck deck." The card advised Jian Dan to "stay away from water." Jian Dan was astonished, recalling how Han Yansheng had just bumped her into a puddle, leaving her bag still wet. They quickly became friends, and Jian Dan shared local snacks her grandmother had prepared, delighting Mi Fen, who called her a "treasure girl."
Soon after, Yue Tangtang entered the dorm. Mi Fen identified her as their other roommate who had left early that morning with a cake. Yue Tangtang glared at Jian Dan, clearly displeased by their earlier encounter. Just then, Jian Dan received a message from an online contact, asking her to pick up a math textbook at the swimming pool. Meanwhile, Han Yansheng, having changed his cake-stained clothes, arrived at the swimming pool.
A year prior, a traumatic incident had left him with aquaphobia, making him unable to enter the water. His friends, Monkey and Yuan Sen, were there. Monkey, aware of Han Yansheng's fear, secretly hoped a little push might help him overcome it. Jian Dan then bounced into the pool area, spotted her textbook, and excitedly picked it up. Han Yansheng, still frustrated and mistaking her for another admirer trying a new tactic, immediately snatched the book back.
As they struggled over the book, Jian Dan accidentally pushed Han Yansheng into the pool. Seeing him thrashing, and noticing his swimsuit, she initially thought he was faking, unaware of his phobia. Monkey and Yuan Sen quickly realized the gravity of the situation and rushed to his aid. Jian Dan, seeing Han Yansheng in genuine distress, dived in to help. With their combined efforts, they pulled him out. Finding him unresponsive, a panicked Jian Dan immediately began CPR.
Just as she was about to administer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, Han Yansheng regained consciousness. Han Yansheng was promptly taken to the infirmary by Monkey and Yuan Sen. The doctor confirmed he had only swallowed some water and that his heart rate and other vitals were normal. However, the doctor remarked that this wasn't his first drowning incident, referencing a past event, which Monkey and Yuan Sen quickly tried to deflect to protect Han Yansheng.
Jian Dan, feeling guilty, wanted to apologize in person, but Han Yansheng refused to see her. She then asked Monkey to deliver an apology letter. Unbeknownst to Jian Dan, Yue Tangtang, harboring a grudge, intercepted the letter and replaced its contents with a mocking one. When Han Yansheng read the altered letter, he was furious and vowed revenge on Jian Dan.
Days later, during Swimming Club recruitment, Jian Dan expressed her desire to join to Mi Fen, hoping to earn credits. Mi Fen warned her about the club's strict criteria and her recent conflict with Han Yansheng. Jian Dan, however, was optimistic, believing the misunderstanding with Han Yansheng had been resolved and that he wouldn't hold a grudge. At the recruitment event, Yue Tangtang proudly presented her long list of swimming achievements.
When it was Jian Dan's turn, she could only list her victories in local competitions from Shenmu Village, which the senior interviewing them dismissed as insignificant, asserting the club only accepted elites. Jian Dan countered, arguing that the club's mission was to promote swimming for everyone, not just those with awards. Suddenly, Han Yansheng, the club president, appeared and unexpectedly announced that Jian Dan was accepted.
Monkey, surprised by his friend's decision, realized Han Yansheng’s true intention was to carry out his revenge. At the Swimming Club's first meeting for new members, Vice President Xiahou Ling announced a new training system: senior members would pair with new recruits for one-on-one specialized coaching. He then revealed that President Han Yansheng would personally select one new member for his exclusive guidance.
Han Yansheng chose Jian Dan, declaring that he would be even tougher on her than on anyone else. Yue Tangtang, seething with jealousy, publicly challenged Jian Dan to a race. She proposed that if Jian Dan lost, she would relinquish her one-on-one training spot with the president to a more capable swimmer. In turn, Jian Dan stipulated that Yue Tangtang must also face a consequence if she lost.
Yue Tangtang, certain of her victory, then declared she would withdraw from the Swimming Club entirely. Despite Jian Dan's unconventional swimming technique, she won the race. Yue Tangtang begrudgingly accepted defeat, though she promised to beat Jian Dan next time. Later, Monkey questioned Han Yansheng about his unusual choice of Jian Dan, given his apparent dislike for her.
Han Yansheng revealed his true, vengeful motive: he intended to "straighten out that curly hair of hers," implying his determination to discipline her. After dismissing the rest of the new recruits, Han Yansheng told Jian Dan to stay behind.
Episode 2 Recap
After Jian Dan accidentally pushes him into a pool, she and Han Yansheng become a hot topic on campus, with photos of his embarrassing moment circulating online. Determined to get revenge, Han Yansheng begins personally training Jian Dan, making her do several times more exercise than anyone else and taunting her that she can quit if she can't handle it. However, Jian Dan needs the credits from the Swimming Club to secure a full scholarship, so she resolves to persevere.
To torment her further, Han Yansheng makes Jian Dan his personal assistant for ten days, demanding she obey his every command. Jian Dan cleverly finds ways to manage his difficult requests. When he demands delicacies from every floor of the cafeteria, she simply orders takeout to get everything at once. When a girl wants to approach Han Yansheng, he makes her add Jian Dan's WeChat to relay any messages.
Back at the dorm, a jealous Yue Tangtang replaces Jian Dan's shampoo with dye, turning her curly hair into a colorful mess. Forced to get her hair fixed, Jian Dan rides her bike to a barbershop and accidentally snags Han Yansheng's coat on the way. To avoid being recognized, she quickly covers his eyes and rides off. Later, with her new haircut, Jian Dan meets her friend Mi Fen at an event for Mi Fen's idol, Prince Luo Shui.
They run into Han Yansheng and his friends. Monkey and the others compliment Jian Dan’s new hairstyle, calling it pure and cute. Although visibly impressed, Han Yansheng feigns indifference, questioning their taste. As punishment, Han Yansheng orders Jian Dan to clean the swimming club's cluttered storage room. While tackling the overwhelming task, she discovers a large, hidden climbing gym. When Han Yansheng comes to check on her, he finds her asleep in a chair.
Feeling a pang of sympathy, he tells her they are even and asks her to come to his office the next day to hand over her duties. Han Yansheng and his friends go to the library, where he takes out a book about Hypatia, a Greek female mathematician he admires. He jots down a problem from the latest math magazine on a piece of paper, leaving it inside the book when he is called away.
Jian Dan and Mi Fen also arrive at the library. Excited to see the same book, Jian Dan finds the note and eagerly begins solving the problem, while Mi Fen, who struggles with academics, falls asleep. When Han Yansheng returns, he is surprised to find the problem has been solved. Intrigued, he writes an even harder problem on the paper, hoping to see if the mysterious solver will return. Jian Dan goes to Han Yansheng's office but finds him absent.
She notices a broken trophy in a display case and takes a photo, intending to help repair it. Just then, Han Yansheng walks in and, assuming she broke it, furiously smashes her phone. Upset and wronged, Jian Dan runs out. Soon after, Monkey arrives and finds a concert ticket near the broken trophy, likely dropped by the real culprit. Han Yansheng realizes the truth will be revealed at the concert.
That night, Han Yansheng and Jian Dan arrive separately at the concert, each with a ticket. They are both shocked to discover that their seats are right next to each other.
Episode 3 Recap
Han Yansheng arrived at the concert hall with a ticket found in his office, only to find Jian Dan seated right beside him. This strengthened his belief that she was responsible for breaking his trophy. Jian Dan, equally puzzled by his presence, found his "attitude" irritating and prepared to leave. However, with the performance already underway, Han Yansheng pulled her back, explaining that leaving would disturb others and disrespect the musicians.
Exhausted from being constantly ordered around by Han Yansheng, Jian Dan, who disliked classical music, soon fell asleep, her head resting on his shoulder. Han Yansheng, though awkward, allowed her to sleep. After the concert, he even asked the cleaning staff to delay their work so she could rest longer. Upon waking, Jian Dan felt embarrassed. She found the last available shared bike and, seeing Han Yansheng walking, offered him a ride out of kindness.
Han Yansheng, however, criticized her for sleeping during such a "classy" event, calling it "a waste of something so precious." Jian Dan retorted that his constant demands were the cause of her exhaustion and questioned why he hadn't woken her. Despite his initial reluctance, Han Yansheng eventually accepted the ride. Jian Dan rode incredibly fast, startling him. He warned her not to mention their shared ride to anyone at school.
Arriving at the campus gate, Han Yansheng reiterated his conviction that she broke his trophy, citing the ticket found next to it and their seating arrangement. Jian Dan vehemently denied it, stating she would never use her scholarship for such "dumb" acts or buy a ticket for someone "arrogant, smug, and self-obsessed." He challenged her to quit the Swimming Club if she disliked him so much. She furiously accepted and declared she would.
Furious, Jian Dan returned to her dorm and confronted Yue Tangtang. She accused Yue Tangtang of framing her: "You broke Han Yansheng's trophy when you tried to give him the ticket. You were scared he'd find out, so you skipped the concert. Then you gave the ticket to me, so I'd take the fall. Am I right?" Yue Tangtang feigned ignorance and demanded proof.
Jian Dan countered that the ticket Han Yansheng possessed was evidence, and both she and Han Yansheng were convinced of Yue Tangtang's guilt. Jian Dan further accused Yue Tangtang of swapping her apology letter for Han Yansheng's meme. When Yue Tangtang denied it, Jian Dan pointed out that only Mi Fen, Yue Tangtang, and she were in the dorm that day, and threatened to inquire at the photo print shops on campus.
With her lies exposed, Yue Tangtang confessed to everything, blaming Jian Dan for her departure from the Swimming Club and calling her a "pest." Jian Dan, letting past grievances slide, warned Yue Tangtang that any future trouble would be met with severe consequences. Jian Dan informed Mi Fen that she would no longer be going to the swimming pool. Needing to call her grandmother but with her phone broken, Jian Dan went to the library to use a public phone.
To reassure her grandmother, she falsely claimed her phone was merely off due to a bad dorm signal and boasted about being the fastest girl in the Swimming Club, well-liked by everyone. Meanwhile, Han Yansheng, having seen her using the library's public phone, obtained Yue Tangtang's phone number and called her, demanding to speak to Jian Dan. He then instructed Jian Dan to write a 3,000-word Club Withdrawal Application. Jian Dan was outraged, calling his demand insane.
She completed the lengthy application, only for Han Yansheng to dismiss it as "not good enough" without reading it, insisting she rewrite it to officially withdraw from the club. Jian Dan reaffirmed her decision to never return. Han Yansheng stopped her and presented her with a new phone, which he had made to look old, explaining it was to replace the one he broke. Jian Dan initially declined but accepted it, promising to repay him eventually.
She later returned to the library, where she found another challenging math problem in the "Hypatia" book and began to solve it. Han Yansheng, also at the library, was delighted to discover the solution to his latest problem within the book. Thus, they continued their anonymous intellectual exchange, communicating through the math puzzles in the "Hypatia" book, each unaware of the other's identity. As elective registration began, Mi Fen chose "Film Appreciation" for its ease and lack of exams.
Jian Dan, however, chose "Applied Math." Mi Fen warned her about Professor Wang, the notorious "nightmare" instructor for the course, known for his high failure rate. She recounted an exaggerated story of him making the course even harder after being questioned by the dean, resulting in a mere 10% passing rate. Unbeknownst to them, Professor Wang himself overheard their conversation.
He corrected them, stating the actual passing rate was even lower, at 5%, with only three out of sixty-one students passing. Mi Fen was terrified, but Jian Dan remained unfazed, simply noting that a 5% chance was still a chance. Jian Dan then received a university notification stating that the points awarded for club participation had been significantly increased, impacting her scholarship eligibility.
Worried, as she had just quit the Swimming Club, Mi Fen suggested forming a new club, citing her Cosplay Club as an example of a newly formed group. This sparked an idea in Jian Dan to revive the Rock Climbing Club. She applied to the student union, only to be informed that the Rock Climbing Club's venue was currently managed by the Swimming Club, and Han Yansheng's personal authorization was required for its re-establishment.
Jian Dan sought out Han Yansheng at the swimming pool, but he curtly dismissed her, claiming he had class and that the area was restricted. Undeterred, she confronted him again before their elective class started. After returning a book he had borrowed from her, Han Yansheng flatly refused to sign the authorization form. He argued that as the venue's manager, he had the right to decide who used it, and she was "not on his list."
Jian Dan accused him of letting a personal vendetta interfere with his duties, but he was unmoved. As class began, he walked away from her. After class, Jian Dan persisted one last time, and Han Yansheng finally took the form from her. Meanwhile, Han Yansheng's friends, including Shi, were meticulously preparing for the return of Gu Entong, who had been an exchange student. Gu Entong arrived and was warmly welcomed, with everyone remarking on her timeless beauty.
She thanked Shi for the elaborate preparations. Shi presented her with a personalized "Ocean University Life Guide," detailing recent campus changes and her favorite foods, which Gu Entong greatly appreciated. She inquired about Yuan Sen's absence, and her friends vaguely replied that he "stepped out for something." When Gu Entong asked how everyone had been, one friend began to mention "someone pretty interesting" they had met, but Han Yansheng quickly cut in, describing Jian Dan as "someone totally irrelevant."
Episode 4 Recap
Upon Gu Entong's return from an academic exchange, Shi, who held feelings for her, meticulously arranged a warm welcome at the café where he worked. Gu Entong was delighted by the gesture and thoughtfully presented gifts to her friends. As they reconnected, Han Yansheng dismissed Jian Dan as "totally irrelevant" when friends brought up meeting an "interesting girl."
Soon after, Jian Dan arrived, persistently urging Han Yansheng to sign the authorization form for the Rock Climbing Club, emphasizing its importance to her. Han Yansheng told her to leave as it was a private gathering, but Jian Dan insisted she would only do so once he signed. Gu Entong then introduced herself to Jian Dan, noting her recent return from an exchange program and her connection to Han Yansheng and Monkey.
She recognized Jian Dan from an online forum as the girl who had pushed Han Yansheng into the pool, remarking that Jian Dan was even cuter in person than in photos. Gu Entong distributed her gifts: a sliding number puzzle for Han Yansheng to enhance his problem-solving speed, Monkey's favorite candy, a figurine for Yuan Sen, and a book he had been wanting for Shi, demonstrating her attentiveness to their preferences.
Later, Gu Entong offered Jian Dan a hair clip, observing her messy bangs and suggesting it would suit her. Jian Dan initially declined, feeling it was inappropriate to accept a gift from someone she had just met. Gu Entong insisted, and others commented on how charming Jian Dan looked with the clip. However, after leaving, Jian Dan returned the hair clip to Gu Entong, who then casually tossed it into a trash bin.
Faced with Jian Dan's unwavering persistence regarding the Rock Climbing Club, Han Yansheng challenged her. He led her to a climbing wall and declared that if she could reach the top, he would immediately sign the authorization form. Jian Dan readily accepted the challenge. Han Yansheng expressed skepticism about her lack of experience and improper attire, stating that climbing wasn't as easy as she thought.
Jian Dan, however, was resolute, vowing never to give up and reminding him not to retract his promise if she succeeded. She diligently began learning climbing techniques from online tutorials and engaged in rigorous physical training to build her strength. Meanwhile, Gu Entong joined the Swimming Club, much to Monkey's delight, who publicly praised her as the "prettiest and most thoughtful girl." One day, Jian Dan confidently informed Han Yansheng she was ready for the challenge.
As she prepared to climb, Gu Entong and other curious students gathered to watch. Han Yansheng explained the terms of their deal, and Gu Entong acknowledged Jian Dan's ambition. Jian Dan began her ascent, demonstrating surprising agility. Despite struggling towards the top, she persevered and proudly announced to Han Yansheng, "I did it!" However, on her descent, Jian Dan's foot slipped, causing her to fall.
Han Yansheng instinctively rushed forward, catching her in a protective embrace, which unexpectedly resulted in an accidental kiss. The unique moment was quickly captured by several onlookers on their phones. Noticing Han Yansheng's embarrassment, Gu Entong promptly took his arm and led him away, leaving Jian Dan to gather herself on the ground. The accidental kiss between Jian Dan and Han Yansheng quickly became the top trending topic on Ocean University's gossip list.
Jian Dan's friend showed her an online poll pitting the "Tong-Yan ship" (Gu Entong and Han Yansheng) against the "Sheng-Dan ship" (Jian Dan and Han Yansheng), with Tong-Yan currently leading. Determined not to lose in popularity, Jian Dan's friend even used Jian Dan's phone to vote for the Sheng-Dan ship. When Shi inquired about the rumors, Gu Entong dismissed them as mere campus gossip, though she secretly reveled in the attention.
With her climbing challenge successfully completed, Han Yansheng finally signed the authorization form, much to Jian Dan's elation, officially establishing the Rock Climbing Club. However, Han Yansheng delivered a stern reminder: according to student club guidelines, she had a limited time to recruit at least five members, or the club would face disbandment. Jian Dan worked late into the night designing recruitment posters and tirelessly distributed flyers across campus. However, her efforts yielded little interest from students, leaving her disheartened.
Han Yansheng, observing her traditional methods, criticized them as "outdated" and ineffective, predicting she wouldn't recruit anyone. Jian Dan retorted, calling him "rude and arrogant" and saying, "no wonder no one likes you." Gu Entong attempted to mediate, explaining that Han Yansheng "always talked like that" and urging them to resolve their differences. Later, Monkey found Jian Dan feeling dejected about the lack of sign-ups.
He suggested that her flyer distribution had limited reach and proposed using online promotion instead, reminding her how swiftly the gossip about her and Han Yansheng had spread across campus. Realizing the potential, Jian Dan thanked him, though Monkey quietly mumbled that "the other guy" deserved the thanks. Jian Dan then asked Monkey for another favor, which he eagerly accepted. Monkey cut his swimming practice short and led his teammates to the climbing wall.
Jian Dan enthusiastically introduced the Rock Climbing Club and announced a "Reach the Top and Win a Prize" event, hoping to attract new members. Despite her passionate explanation of climbing's benefits, emphasizing its ability to enhance coordination, flexibility, focus, self-confidence, and determination, many students remained hesitant due to the perceived danger and height. To encourage them, Monkey bravely volunteered to demonstrate. However, halfway up the wall, he froze, confessing his severe fear of heights.
As Monkey dangled, paralyzed with fear, Han Yansheng and Gu Entong arrived. Seeing Monkey's predicament, Han Yansheng swiftly donned climbing gear and expertly ascended the wall. He reached Monkey, calmed him down, and together, they safely rappelled back to the ground. Concerned that his failed attempt would reinforce students' fears and hinder Jian Dan's recruitment, Monkey convinced Han Yansheng not to remove his gear.
He argued that Han Yansheng, having initially suggested online promotion, had a role to play in rectifying the situation. Monkey proposed that Han Yansheng perform another climb, demonstrating proper technique to positively influence the students and help them overcome their apprehension. Han Yansheng agreed, and Monkey secretly informed Jian Dan that he had a surprise planned for her.
Episode 5 Recap
Following Monkey's suggestion, Han Yansheng readily re-equipped himself and, with impressive agility and smooth movements, swiftly climbed to the top of the rock wall. There, he retrieved a blind box Jian Dan had placed earlier. Onlookers cheered him on, with Monkey explaining that Han Yansheng's background in outdoor sports made this climb effortless for him.
Upon opening the blind box, Han Yansheng found a note announcing he had become a lifetime member of the Rock Climbing Club, granting him unlimited access. He found the prize ironic, given his skill level. Mi Fen promptly uploaded a video of Han Yansheng's climb to the university forum, adding a catchy title about the campus heartthrob conquering the rock wall and earning a lifetime membership. This post quickly sparked a rock climbing craze across campus.
Jian Dan was thrilled and expressed her gratitude to Mi Fen with an enthusiastic full-body massage. The successful online promotion led to a surge of students eager to try rock climbing, keeping Jian Dan busy but happy, as her Rock Climbing Club was finally thriving. Jian Dan later found Monkey and Han Yansheng jogging on the beach and thanked Monkey for suggesting the online promotion.
Monkey began to clarify that the idea was actually Han Yansheng's, but Han Yansheng interjected, sarcastically questioning how Jian Dan expected the club to grow using such "old-school" recruitment methods as flyers. Jian Dan, annoyed, reminded him that she was the club president and would take responsibility. Monkey observed to Han Yansheng that he seemed to want to help Jian Dan despite his teasing.
Han Yansheng denied it, stating he only cared because he had signed the authorization form, and he didn't want to look bad if the club failed. In Professor Wang's applied math class, an important two-person group assignment was announced, with grades directly impacting final scores. To foster teamwork in challenging circumstances, Professor Wang devised a unique grouping method: students would be paired with the person they least wanted to work with.
Jian Dan and Han Yansheng, both having named each other, found themselves reluctantly partnered. Jian Dan had drawn the topic of surveying university students' views on romantic relationships. Han Yansheng instructed her to create the questionnaire and scheduled them to conduct the survey at the cafeteria entrance at noon on Sunday, emphasizing the tight deadline. Jian Dan protested his unilateral decisions, but Han Yansheng retorted that whoever drew the topic was responsible for the preparation.
Meanwhile, Mi Fen faced her own challenge. Her cosplay club was organizing an eco-themed show and wanted to invite the renowned online gaming personality, Luo Shui. Mi Fen, a devoted fan, bravely volunteered for the task but quickly despaired, realizing she had no idea how to contact her idol. Jian Dan suggested she inquire at the coffee shop where Luo Shui had previously held a fan meeting. Mi Fen rushed over and spoke to Shi Zi, who worked there.
Shi Zi couldn't provide Luo Shui's direct contact but advised Mi Fen to try messaging him on Weibo, suggesting that Luo Shui might agree if he was in a good mood. Mi Fen decided to give it a try. As she sent a message to Luo Shui, Yuan Sen's phone, who was coincidentally also in the coffee shop, pinged with a notification, but Mi Fen paid no attention.
She then turned her focus to preparing for her club's environmental awareness event scheduled for the next day. On Sunday, at the cafeteria entrance, Jian Dan arrived with her meticulously prepared questionnaires. Han Yansheng appeared with a bulky professional camera, insisting on recording the entire survey process, much to Jian Dan's annoyance, as she felt a phone would suffice. Han Yansheng, however, stated he had high standards and would only do things properly.
Jian Dan's attempts to solicit responses proved largely unsuccessful, with many students, including Yuan Sen, declining to participate. Frustrated by her lack of progress, Han Yansheng took over. Leveraging his "campus heartthrob" status, he quickly attracted numerous female students eager to fill out the surveys. However, this success created a new problem: the respondent pool was heavily skewed towards females.
To balance the data, Han Yansheng quickly called his friends, including Monkey and Yuan Sen, instructing them to gather at the Yangfang Coffee shop to fill out questionnaires. At the coffee shop, Han Yansheng's friends reluctantly complied. As they filled out the survey on "ideal love," Jian Dan shared that she chose "love at first sight," explaining that initial attraction was paramount for her.
Yuan Sen also picked "love at first sight," leading Monkey to tease him about having a crush, which Yuan Sen refused to comment on. When Han Yansheng completed his survey, he chose "soulmates." When pressed to elaborate, he described a soulmate as someone who could understand him with just a glance and shared his interests, like swimming and math. A friend quickly pointed out that Han Yansheng's description perfectly matched Jian Dan, leaving a moment of awkwardness.
After data collection concluded, Han Yansheng instructed Jian Dan to create a presentation slideshow from the materials and send it to him for review, stating he would be the one to present it. Jian Dan argued, questioning why she had to do all the work while he took the credit. Han Yansheng retorted that his public speaking skills were superior. Later, after the footage was compiled, Monkey joked that Han Yansheng had turned their "documentary into a rom-com."
Han Yansheng also sent a message to Jian Dan indicating that the "data is off" and instructing her to "delete immediately." During their presentation, Han Yansheng delivered their group's work. Afterwards, their group received a grade of B from Professor Wang. Seeking to improve their grade, Han Yansheng immediately requested permission to deliver an off-script presentation, confidently asserting that he had all the content memorized.
Meanwhile, Mi Fen, still worried about Luo Shui's lack of response, was convinced by Jian Dan to check her phone again. To her immense surprise and delight, she found a message from Luo Shui agreeing to join the event. Mi Fen was ecstatic but momentarily flustered, unsure how to craft the perfect reply. After some deliberation, she quickly sent back a grateful message: "Thank you, Your Highness Luo Shui! We'll be expecting you!"
Yuan Sen, overhearing her excitement and seeing her phone, teased her about her screen name "Lucky Koi Girl," asking if this was the "love at first sight" person she had mentioned, which Mi Fen quickly denied.
Episode 6 Recap
Jian Dan worked overnight to organize the data, synthesized all the materials into a PPT, and sent it to Han Yansheng for his final review. Seeing the task completed, Jian Dan then went to the restroom to wash up. Yue Tangtang was jealous that Jian Dan could appear with Han Yansheng as a pair. After hearing Jian Dan's phone ring, she immediately took advantage of Jian Dan being in the restroom to secretly come over and check.
She saw a message from Han Yansheng saying that the data was incorrect and asked Jian Dan to delete and revise it. She casually deleted the message, then quietly put Jian Dan's phone back in its original place. The great god Luoshui finally agreed to participate in the event. Mi Fen was extremely excited after seeing the reply. The next day, each group took the stage to present their investigation results.
When it was Han Yansheng and Jian Dan's turn, Jian Dan went up to operate the computer, and Han Yansheng was responsible for the speech. However, Han Yansheng saw that the data had not been changed and immediately suggested not using the PPT, opting instead for an oral presentation. Jian Dan knew what had happened and felt unhappy.
After the presentation, Professor Wang, known for his rigorous academic style, only gave their group a C because Han Yansheng was the only one speaking from beginning to end, completely failing to demonstrate Jian Dan's cooperative behavior. Han Yansheng stated that if they had presented according to the PPT, Professor Wang would have discovered obvious errors on it, and ultimately wouldn't even have given them a C.
Getting a C meant that Jian Dan would not receive the full scholarship this semester. Jian Dan's tuition for the next semester became a problem, and she was unhappy about it. Learning that Jian Dan needed to work, Gu Entong enthusiastically introduced her to a bar run by an acquaintance to work as a server. Meanwhile, Mi Fen's role-playing game event was also held here. After Yuan Sen arrived, he went directly upstairs to the office set up for him.
Mi Fen found it a bit strange after seeing this, wondering if Yuan Sen was the great god Luoshui's assistant. She went up to check but found a paparazzi reporter hiding behind the curtains, secretly taking photos of the great god Luoshui. After driving away the reporter, Mi Fen discovered that Yuan Sen was the great god Luoshui. This discovery made her jaw drop, and she was so surprised and delighted that she became incoherent.
Yuan Sen said that he really liked role-playing but did not want to be overly scrutinized and disturbed. He hoped Mi Fen would help him keep the secret. Mi Fen, excited, repeatedly assured him that she would. When the great god Luoshui appeared, fully dressed and wearing a mask, the entire venue erupted in a thunderous roar of cheers, reaching a climax. Jian Dan came here to work as a server.
Although she was wearing a mask, Han Yansheng still recognized her. Jian Dan tried to avoid him after seeing him, but Han Yansheng requested the manager to have Jian Dan serve him. Jian Dan was very angry and put a lot of mustard in Han Yansheng's drink. Just then, another customer requested a drink. After Jian Dan returned, she couldn't find the drink with mustard in it. She anxiously checked each one.
The manager saw that she was seemingly trying to steal a customer's drink and immediately criticized her. Jian Dan consequently lost this job. After the event, Han Yansheng caught up with Jian Dan, not understanding why she would try to please those customers for money. Jian Dan angrily stated that all of this was because of him, then turned and got on the bus to leave. The next day, Jian Dan came to class.
Professor Wang announced in class that a new mathematics journal, "Mysteries of Mathematics," would be published soon and was now soliciting papers nationwide. If selected, additional points could be earned on top of the original ones. After hearing this, Jian Dan immediately regained her confidence. To prepare her paper, Jian Dan worked tirelessly, forgetting to eat and sleep.
Monkey felt very sorry after seeing this, so he went to find Han Yansheng to ask him to help Jian Dan, saying that if Jian Dan did not get the scholarship, she would be forced to drop out next semester because she couldn't afford the tuition. Han Yansheng compiled his experience in publishing papers over the past few years and gave it to Jian Dan. He also offered to proactively tutor her for an hour every day.
Jian Dan was very happy after hearing this. Han Yansheng mentioned that he had previously sent Jian Dan a message asking her to revise the PPT, but Jian Dan said she had not received anything. Han Yansheng looked at her phone and fell into contemplation.
Episode 7 Recap
Han Yansheng was puzzled when he realized the message he had sent to Jian Dan regarding their tutoring session was not on her phone. Jian Dan, however, dismissed the issue, already touched by Han Yansheng's promise to help her with her thesis. They agreed to meet at a cafe daily for an hour of tutoring. Monkey excitedly messaged Shi that "Han" had taken the bait, indicating their plan was successful.
Shi, who was bringing breakfast pasta to Gu Entong, was also pleased. Gu Entong, however, seemed bothered when she heard about Han Yansheng helping Jian Dan, questioning what "Sheng" had to do with it. During their tutoring sessions, Han Yansheng proved to be exceptionally brilliant, flawlessly recalling specific page numbers for thesis resources, topic selection rationales, literature search methods, formatting guidelines, and keyword searches from his past papers.
Jian Dan was thoroughly impressed by his encyclopedic knowledge and clear instructions, which significantly accelerated her thesis writing. She even playfully acknowledged his strict teaching method, remarking that "respecting your teacher is a virtue" after he told her to keep quiet and listen. Concurrently, Monkey found himself in an embarrassing situation at a noodle shop when he realized he forgot to pay for multiple bowls of Luosifen he had claimed were for Jian Dan.
Yuan Sen, who was also there, covered the cost for him. Jian Dan worked tirelessly on her thesis, often staying up late. For their final session, Han Yansheng found her asleep at her desk. He gently woke her, reminding her that the submission deadline was the next day. Jian Dan confirmed her thesis was finished and ready for his final review.
Han Yansheng meticulously reviewed her work, suggesting areas for more precise descriptions and even playfully chiding her for using her phone, calling it a distraction. Once satisfied, he instructed her to submit the paper online. Soon after, Jian Dan realized that the phone Han Yansheng had given her was not an old model, but a coveted latest-model device.
She immediately transferred a portion of her earnings from a part-time job to him as a down payment, promising to pay the rest later. He casually accepted. Meanwhile, Mi Fen was anxious about the upcoming online cosplay competition, especially since Yuan Sen, her idol known online as "Prince Luo Shui," hadn't uploaded his work. Her tarot reading indicated "setbacks but a good outcome."
She soon discovered that Yuan Sen's custom-made fur collar, essential for his costume, had been damaged at the factory and nearly discarded. The only tailor skilled enough to fix it was out of town, and with the deadline looming at 10 AM the next morning, Yuan Sen believed he couldn't compete. Mi Fen, having learned sewing in her high school cosplay club due to budget constraints, bravely volunteered to help.
She spent all her money on new materials and worked through the night, meticulously sewing. When she finally handed the perfectly repaired costume to Yuan Sen, she was faint from exhaustion and low blood sugar. Thanks to her efforts, Yuan Sen, as Prince Luo Shui, won first place for the fourth consecutive year. Overjoyed, Mi Fen accepted his offer to grant her one wish.
Having spent a significant portion of her monthly allowance on his costume, Mi Fen resorted to selling her beloved figurines online to cover her living expenses, affirming that her efforts for her idol were "worth it." Han Yansheng and Jian Dan continued their intellectual exchange through notes left in a copy of "Hypatia." His friends, including Monkey and Shi, were increasingly curious about this mysterious "math expert," speculating she might be a stunning beauty.
Han Yansheng, however, downplayed their suggestions, stating he was simply meeting a pen pal, not going on a blind date. Monkey insisted that meeting someone of the opposite sex online was, in essence, a blind date. Han Yansheng agreed to meet his book friend at the library at 7 PM. Gu Entong was particularly invested in this meeting, pestering Monkey for every detail. She voiced her low expectations, imagining a "dull," glasses-wearing math department girl.
Concurrently, Mi Fen needed to deliver figurines to an online buyer downtown, but her phone battery died. Jian Dan, heading to the library, kindly lent Mi Fen her phone, mentioning it had no passcode. Shortly after, Mi Fen encountered Yuan Sen, who, upon learning she was meeting a male online contact, remembered Monkey's previous remarks about online meetings being like blind dates.
Concerned for her safety, Yuan Sen insisted on accompanying her to the pizza place where she was meeting the buyer. He appeared nervous, as if preparing to confront a rival, but relaxed when he realized the online contact was merely there to purchase the figurines. After the transaction, Mi Fen and Yuan Sen left, inadvertently leaving Jian Dan's phone behind at the pizza place.
Han Yansheng arrived at the library at the appointed time, a slight smile on his face as he spotted the "Hypatia" book still on the bookshelf. Just then, his own phone rang. A male stranger on the other end explained that his girlfriend had accidentally left her phone at the pizza place and asked Han Yansheng to come pick it up. This unexpected call forced Han Yansheng to leave the library before his anticipated meeting.
Episode 8 Recap
Jian Dan arrived at the library early, holding a specific book, "Mathematician and Martyr, Hypatia," and waited for her pen pal. However, after over an hour, the person did not appear. Gu Entong also came to the library and immediately saw Jian Dan with the book, realizing that Jian Dan must be the pen pal Han Yansheng was supposed to meet.
When her pen pal failed to show, Jian Dan wrote her contact information on a note, tucked it inside the book, and returned it to its shelf. After Jian Dan left, Gu Entong quickly retrieved the book, took out Jian Dan’s note, and then enthusiastically recommended the book to a math student, who subsequently borrowed it.
Meanwhile, Han Yansheng received a phone call from a stranger stating that "his girlfriend’s" phone had been left behind and asked him to pick it up at a pizza place on Yaohang Street. Han Yansheng was surprised to hear himself referred to as her boyfriend but agreed to go. Upon his arrival, the person who found the phone questioned why he wasn't the "tall, handsome guy" who had been with the phone's owner earlier, implying they looked like a couple.
Han Yansheng insisted his friend didn't have a boyfriend, but the finder, convinced they were a couple, gave him the phone to return to her. Taking Jian Dan’s phone, Han Yansheng noticed it lacked a password, finding her very careless. He scrolled through her contacts, which only included "Grandma," "Mi Fen," and "Landlubber." Curiosity piqued, he clicked "Landlubber" and discovered it was his own phone number, which greatly annoyed him.
When Han Yansheng returned to the library, his pen pal was gone, and the "Hypatia" book was missing. The librarian confirmed that a male student had borrowed it, leading to Han Yansheng's disappointment. Later, Han Yansheng brought Jian Dan her phone. Jian Dan was puzzled by how her phone ended up with him, while Han Yansheng was irritated, believing she had been on a date and carelessly forgotten her phone.
He had set a password for it, giving her the hint: "Curly-haired Girl." Jian Dan couldn't unlock it until Mi Fen helped her decipher the clue, reminding her of the time Jian Dan, with her distinct hairstyle, was featured in the university news for saving the Swimming Club president. Jian Dan realized the password was the date of that incident, deducing that Han Yansheng had set it as a form of payback for her "Landlubber" nickname for him.
With her phone unlocked, Jian Dan began preparing for the upcoming Singles' Day sales, having created a spreadsheet with formulas to find the most cost-effective shopping methods. The Swimming Club organized a special Singles' Day activity where single students would write a wish on a card for another participant to draw and fulfill. Jian Dan's wish was to find her pen pal.
Han Yansheng initially dismissed the activity as meaningless, but when Monkey, the organizer, mentioned that Jian Dan was participating, he reluctantly joined, stating his wish was to "solve this math problem." Gu Entong, who hoped to fulfill Han Yansheng's wish, recoiled when she saw the challenging math problem and refused it after Monkey, who had drawn the card, offered it to her. Stuck with the difficult wish, Monkey then asked Jian Dan to help him solve the math problem.
Separately, Yuan Sen noticed Mi Fen selling her figurines and asked if she was short on money. Mi Fen explained she was saving to buy his new merchandise. Yuan Sen offered to send her several sets when they were released, making Mi Fen very happy. She then reminded him of his earlier promise to grant her a wish, asking for them to be friends.
Seeing his hesitation, she quickly assured him that even if they couldn't be friends, she would still help him however she could. Yuan Sen then agreed, accepting her offer of friendship. Later, Yuan Sen drew Mi Fen's wish card and approached her, offering to help fulfill it. Mi Fen was so overjoyed that she couldn't even recall what she had wished for. Meanwhile, Han Yansheng, holding Jian Dan’s wish card to "meet my math pen pal," arrived at the library.
He found Jian Dan engrossed in solving a math problem. He felt a mix of surprise and happiness, finally realizing that Jian Dan was the pen pal he had been searching for.
Episode 9 Recap
Han Yansheng arrived at the library and found Jian Dan diligently working on a math problem. He expressed surprise at her presence, especially since he believed she had a boyfriend yet was participating in Singles' Day activities. Jian Dan quickly denied having a boyfriend. Han Yansheng then questioned if the person she previously mentioned, someone good at math with beautiful handwriting and shared interests, wasn't her boyfriend.
Jian Dan clarified that he was just her math pen pal, a revelation that secretly pleased Han Yansheng. When Jian Dan left to get water, her phone began ringing persistently. Concerned about disturbing others, Han Yansheng answered it. It was Jian Dan's grandmother on the line. After Jian Dan returned and took the call, her grandmother, speaking at length, inquired if the young man who had answered the phone was her new boyfriend.
Jian Dan promptly denied it, explaining he was merely a coursemate, and quickly ended the call, expressing her frustration to Han Yansheng for answering her phone and causing the misunderstanding. She emphasized that she certainly did not have a boyfriend. Han Yansheng retorted that she herself had spoken of a date the previous night. Jian Dan clarified that a date doesn't necessarily imply a boyfriend, pointing out that their current meeting could also be considered a "date."
Han Yansheng then brought up the person she admired, who was good at math, had beautiful handwriting, and shared common interests, asking if that wasn't her boyfriend. Jian Dan insisted he was just her pen pal, leading Han Yansheng to quip that if she had said so earlier, it would have prevented all the confusion.
Meanwhile, Mi Fen, unaware of the wish Jian Dan had written for her (as they had swapped wishes), was ecstatic when Yuan Sen brought her to his studio. Her excitement grew even more when Yuan Sen revealed they would dress up as her favorite anime characters, Yue Luo and Ling Xi, for a couple's photoshoot. This was Jian Dan's thoughtful wish for Mi Fen.
Mi Fen was overwhelmed with joy, describing Ling Xi as a "doting partner" who would fight an entire army for Yue Luo, a detail Yuan Sen knew from her social media. Returning to her dorm after a day of excitement, Mi Fen hugged Jian Dan, showering her with affection and praising her understanding. She asked Jian Dan if her own wish to meet her pen pal had come true.
Jian Dan, disheartened, admitted she hadn't met her pen pal but had instead encountered Han Yansheng, who had only said strange things. Jian Dan later confronted Han Yansheng, realizing he was the one who solved the math problem for her. While Han Yansheng claimed the problem's solver didn't matter, Jian Dan noticed the handwriting on the solution matched the handwriting she knew from her pen pal, but Han Yansheng dismissed it by saying all numbers looked the same to her.
In class, Professor Wang announced that Jian Dan's academic paper had successfully passed the review and was set for publication, eliciting warm applause from her classmates. Jian Dan quietly thanked Han Yansheng for his help with her paper, to which he playfully asked how she intended to express her gratitude. Jian Dan later won a complimentary meal at the upscale Nanshan Restaurant through an app.
To show her appreciation for Han Yansheng's assistance with her paper, she decided to invite him. Mi Fen helped Jian Dan dress up, urging her to look her best for a dinner with "the hottest guy." Jian Dan wore a dress for the first time, transforming into a pure and radiant vision. Han Yansheng, arriving to pick her up, was captivated by her appearance.
Jian Dan initially suggested riding a shared electric bicycle to save money, but Han Yansheng reminded her that her dress made that impractical. Reluctantly, Jian Dan agreed to take a taxi, though she secretly booked a rideshare. During the journey, Han Yansheng grew increasingly uncomfortable with the other passengers in the shared car, prompting him to complain to Jian Dan, who retorted that he wouldn't have agreed to it if she had told him upfront.
Concurrently, Yuan Sen had arranged to meet Mi Fen at the Luosifen shop after seemingly passing by her dorm earlier, making her momentarily disappointed that he wasn't there for her. At the shop, Yuan Sen had already ordered two bowls of luosifen according to Mi Fen's preferences and presented her with several gifts, including a finely crafted figure of Prince Luo Shui.
Mi Fen delightedly inquired about her previous question to him, to which Yuan Sen simply replied, "Yes," signifying his agreement to be friends with her. Mi Fen was overjoyed, happily proclaiming that Yuan Sen was now willing to be her friend. Upon arriving at Nanshan Restaurant, Han Yansheng questioned Jian Dan's ability to pay for the expensive meal, but Jian Dan confidently announced they were there for a complimentary meal.
Unconvinced, Han Yansheng discreetly attempted to pay during dinner, only to be informed by the waiter that their table had indeed been selected for a complimentary meal as part of an app promotion. Amused, Han Yansheng then requested a bottle of champagne. Jian Dan objected, aware of its high cost and mentioning her alcohol allergy, but Han Yansheng insisted, claiming he would drink it alone, and opened the bottle.
Despite her reservations about the expense, Jian Dan partook in the champagne. Later, when Jian Dan tried to settle the bill, she learned that Han Yansheng had already paid for the champagne. Accusing him of trickery, she lamented that her intended treat had turned into a free meal. Han Yansheng countered that inviting him to a free meal lacked sincerity. Feeling a bit embarrassed, Jian Dan offered to make it up to him. Han Yansheng then requested her help in hosting visiting students and parents for the Swimming Club during the school's upcoming open day, to which Jian Dan readily agreed.
Episode 10 Recap
The Dean's office informed Han Yansheng that two student tour groups, one high school and one elementary school, were arriving and his swimming club was responsible for hosting them. Monkey immediately protested, expressing his strong dislike for "little monsters" and begging Han Yansheng not to make him handle the elementary students. Jian Dan, overhearing, cheerfully volunteered to take on the elementary group, believing they would be cute and well-behaved, not at all like the "trouble" Monkey described.
Jian Dan soon realized she had been too optimistic. As the children disembarked, they scattered, running and bumping into things. Jian Dan was overwhelmed trying to keep track of them. Just as the tour was almost over, a headcount revealed that Pan Yujiang was missing. Jian Dan frantically searched for the girl and eventually found her by the river, completely engrossed in photographing ants moving.
Jian Dan asked Pan Yujiang what she was doing, and the child explained she found the small ants carrying large crumbs cute yet pitiful, as they could easily be stepped on. Having finished his own duties, Han Yansheng came to check on Jian Dan, finding her exhausted and stretching beside Pan Yujiang. Jian Dan told Pan Yujiang to wait while she spoke with Han Yansheng, but in a moment of distraction, the child slipped and fell into the river.
Jian Dan and Han Yansheng raced towards her. However, midway, Han Yansheng's "emergency syndrome" flared up, leaving him dizzy and unable to move. Without hesitation, Jian Dan jumped into the shallow river and swiftly pulled Pan Yujiang to safety. The child was unharmed. Ms. Yuan, the teacher, thanked them and took Pan Yujiang away, but Jian Dan had twisted her ankle when she entered the water and was limping.
Seeing her struggle, Han Yansheng immediately scooped her up, insisting he take her to the infirmary. Jian Dan felt embarrassed and asked to be put down, but Han Yansheng firmly stated that she was injured while helping him, and he would take full responsibility. Jian Dan couldn't help but wonder if his earlier hesitation near the water meant he was truly afraid of it, as she had witnessed it twice now.
At the infirmary, the doctor examined Jian Dan's ankle, fixed it, and ordered her to rest in bed for a week without walking. Later, as Jian Dan hobbled back to her dorm alone on crutches, she complained that Han Yansheng, despite his promise of responsibility, had disappeared. Just then, Han Yansheng arrived on a bicycle, explaining he had gone to get it to take her back. For the next few days, Han Yansheng arranged for Jian Dan's nutrition meals.
Jian Dan, accustomed to strong flavors, found his healthy preparations too bland and complained to him during a video call. Han Yansheng, however, was unmoved, insisting it was proper food for someone recovering. Gu Entong, observing Han Yansheng's attentive care for Jian Dan, grew displeased. She deliberately caused her laptop to malfunction and asked Han Yansheng to help find someone to fix it, emphasizing that her thesis submission was due soon.
On the day Jian Dan was scheduled to have her sutures removed, Han Yansheng sent a message saying he had an urgent matter and couldn't accompany her. Mi Fen, who was with Jian Dan, felt it was unfair, lamenting that Han Yansheng had failed her at a crucial moment after promising full responsibility. The doctor confirmed Jian Dan's recovery was good, but advised a few more days of caution.
After getting Gu Entong's computer repaired at the digital mall, she expressed a desire for cake, so Han Yansheng accompanied her to a cake shop. Gu Entong intentionally posted a picture of Han Yansheng's back on her social media. When Jian Dan saw it, her heart sank, realizing Han Yansheng's "urgent matter" was actually spending time with Gu Entong.
The next day, when Han Yansheng arrived to pick her up again, Jian Dan coolly told him that her foot was completely healed and she would no longer need his help or trouble him. Meanwhile, Han Yansheng received a call from the librarian, informing him that "Hypatia's autobiography" had been returned. He immediately went to the library, retrieved the book, and tucked a note inside, apologizing for missing their previous appointment and providing his contact information.
Later, Jian Dan, now able to walk without crutches, and Mi Fen were at the library. Mi Fen was distraught about her upcoming midterms, having drawn a "bad omen" lucky koi card that morning, and begged Jian Dan for help. Jian Dan offered to study with her in the library. As Jian Dan looked at the book, she noticed a phone number in it that seemed familiar.
Before she could examine it closely, Mi Fen accidentally spilled coffee on it, making the number illegible. Jian Dan decided to leave her own number in the book, hoping the person would call her back. Later, Han Yansheng offered to book a study room at the library and help Mi Fen prepare for her midterms after class. He jokingly warned her not to call it "Buddha's feet" (last-minute cramming).
He also suggested inviting Gu Entong, Shi Zi, and Yuan Sen to join them. Mi Fen was thrilled. Later, Jian Dan and Mi Fen joined Han Yansheng and their friends in the study room. Jian Dan began explaining key points to Mi Fen, who admitted she found the material unfamiliar. Mi Fen was excited to have a group to study with.
Episode 11 Recap
With midterm exams fast approaching, while some students remained calm, others like Mi Fen and Monkey were incredibly anxious. To ease Mi Fen's worries, Jian Dan meticulously compiled study notes, assuring her that if she mastered these points, she would pass. That evening, everyone gathered in the library to study diligently. Yuan Sen patiently helped Mi Fen, illustrating answers in a comic format to make them easier to understand.
Monkey expressed surprise at how much Yuan Sen was speaking, prompting Yuan Sen to find him noisy and take Mi Fen to study in a quieter spot. Observing Jian Dan's continued coolness toward him, Han Yansheng seized the opportunity to offer to buy everyone drinks, pointedly asking Jian Dan to accompany him. Gu Entong, who had just been helped by Han Yansheng with a math problem and praised him profusely, felt a pang of disappointment.
Shi, noticing her mood, attempted to cheer her up by folding an "ugly-cute" penguin. Earlier, Gu Entong and Shi had been discussing their preferences in music and movies, with Shi consistently echoing Gu Entong's choices, which Gu Entong found unconvincing. Instead of heading to the vending machine for drinks, Han Yansheng led Jian Dan to a bookshelf, claiming he needed help finding a book for a paper about mathematicians, specifically female mathematicians.
Jian Dan immediately recommended "Hypatia," enthusiastically recounting the story of the ancient Greek female mathematician. She began to mention that she and her pen pal had connected through this very book when suddenly, the library lights went out. In the ensuing darkness, Mi Fen and Yuan Sen were terrified; Mi Fen worried Yuan Sen might abandon her. Gu Entong, startled by the power cut, involuntarily embraced the nearby Shi, accidentally pulling off a button from his cuff.
Shi quickly called security for assistance and used his phone's flashlight, which calmed Gu Entong. Meanwhile, Han Yansheng pressed Jian Dan to tell him more about her pen pal. Jian Dan described her cherished pen pal, lamenting that she couldn't make out the last two digits of the phone number he'd left in the "Hypatia" book. Han Yansheng spontaneously supplied the numbers, "one, three." Skeptical but hopeful, Jian Dan dialed, and to her astonishment, Han Yansheng's phone rang.
Jian Dan finally realized that the pen pal she had been diligently searching for was Han Yansheng all along. Just then, the power was restored, bathing the library in light once more. Han Yansheng looked at Jian Dan seriously, expressing how lucky he felt to discover she was his pen pal. Though Jian Dan remained silent, her joy was evident. The next day, a weekend, Han Yansheng woke everyone up at 8 AM, insisting they study for midterms.
Monkey and Shi grumbled, complaining about his "cruelty" on a weekend, but Han Yansheng argued that they would regret it when they failed. Han Yansheng then received a phone call from a shoe store, informing him that the pair of women's climbing shoes he had ordered had arrived. He had ordered them after noticing Jian Dan's admiration for them during a previous outing. He told his roommates they could have the day off and left to pick them up.
As Han Yansheng returned to campus with the shoe box, he encountered an elderly woman, walking with difficulty, whose health examination report had blown away. Noticing her large bag and inability to catch the report, Han Yansheng immediately offered his help. He learned she was visiting her granddaughter, a psychology student at the university, and offered to carry her luggage to the girls' dormitory, guiding her through the large campus.
Along the way, the grandmother spoke effusively about her granddaughter, describing her as pretty, with a "round face, round lips," and an excellent swimmer, even mentioning that her granddaughter had joined the Swimming Club and praised its president for his care. Han Yansheng, surprised, asked if her granddaughter was Jian Dan, at which point Jian Dan, having been informed by the director of her grandmother's early arrival, rushed downstairs to greet them.
The grandmother, delighted to find that Han Yansheng was the swimming club president Jian Dan had spoken so highly of, greeted him warmly and started asking him many questions. Han Yansheng, excusing himself as having other plans, moved to leave. Jian Dan, assuming he was going to deliver the shoes to Gu Entong, also urged him to go. However, Han Yansheng unexpectedly handed the shoe box directly to Jian Dan, clarifying they were for her.
The grandmother, who had earlier warned against giving shoes as a gift to a girlfriend, immediately changed her tune, declaring it a wonderful gesture, signifying a desire to walk through life together. Later, everyone gathered for lunch. Jian Dan introduced Mi Fen to her grandmother, who complimented Mi Fen as Jian Dan's best friend. Monkey and Shi also joined, introducing themselves. Grandma praised Monkey for being "smart and lovable like the Monkey King." Han Yansheng also sat with them.
During the meal, a playful argument erupted between Jian Dan and Han Yansheng regarding Han Yansheng's "busy" schedule and Jian Dan's refusal to let him pick her up after her injury. Han Yansheng explained he was with Gu Entong to fix her laptop and stopped by a dessert shop while waiting. He questioned how Jian Dan knew and if that's why she refused his help, which Jian Dan vehemently denied.
Monkey and Mi Fen commented on their ongoing "beef" since the start of school. Grandma interrupted their squabble, suggesting they all take a group photo. Monkey volunteered to take the picture, with Shi offering to manage the lighting, and Grandma insisted Han Yansheng join. After the photo was shared on social media, students buzzed with comments, interpreting it as Han Yansheng meeting Jian Dan's family.
Gu Entong saw the photo and felt a surge of frustration and anger, lamenting the "Tong-Yan ship" (Gu Entong and Han Yansheng) was sinking and endorsing the "Sheng-Dan ship" (Han Yansheng and Jian Dan). As the grandmother prepared to leave, Han Yansheng discretely pulled her aside. He expressed concern, revealing that he had seen her medical report, which indicated she had severe heart disease, and urged her to take her medication on time.
The grandmother confirmed she had come to the city for medical treatment and pleaded with Han Yansheng to keep her illness a secret from Jian Dan, fearing it would distract her from her studies. She also asked him to take good care of Jian Dan. Han Yansheng promised to keep her secret. After the grandmother departed, Jian Dan confronted Han Yansheng, demanding to know what he and her grandmother had discussed.
He teasingly claimed it was a secret, and when pressed, jokingly said her grandmother wanted him to be her grandson-in-law to "keep an eye on her." Jian Dan retorted that she didn't need his supervision. Soon after, Gu Entong sent a message to Jian Dan, requesting to meet because she had something to ask her.
Episode 12 Recap
Gu Entong, feigning distress, met her senior sister Jian Dan at the beach for advice on a "relationship problem." She confided that Han Yansheng liked her and that she also harbored feelings for him, but their long-standing friendship made her unsure how to proceed. Gu Entong then revealed that she calls Han Yansheng "Dà Shèng" because she once saved his life, and he, in turn, has always been exceptionally good to her, allowing only her to use that nickname.
She asked Jian Dan, a psychology student, if she should take the initiative in their relationship. Although Jian Dan admitted she was only a freshman and lacked experience in such matters, Gu Entong pressed on, asking if Jian Dan would bless her and Dà Shèng if they were to get together. Jian Dan, caught off guard, nodded in agreement, leaving Gu Entong delighted.
Back at her dorm, Mi Fen noticed Jian Dan seemed out of sorts, but Mi Fen was too excited about her own date with Yuan Sen to inquire further and soon left. Feeling restless, Jian Dan received a message from Han Yansheng, reminding her he was waiting for her to bring him the book "Ha-Shu-Dai-Lun." Jian Dan found Han Yansheng talking with other students outside.
To avoid him, she pulled down her hat and slipped into the Swimming Club office, intending to quickly drop off the book and leave. However, Han Yansheng followed her inside, confronting her about her odd behavior. Gu Entong then walked in, interrupting their conversation and giving Jian Dan an opportunity to make a quick exit. Han Yansheng, puzzled by Jian Dan's strange demeanor, wondered what was wrong. Meanwhile, Mi Fen and Yuan Sen were enjoying a date by the sea.
Mi Fen sketched a portrait of Yuan Sen, which he found charming, praising her creativity. Mi Fen then asked him to sign the portrait with the name "Luo Shui," making her ecstatic once he did, as "everyone in the cosplay circle knows the famous Luo Shui." Yuan Sen also presented Mi Fen with exam study notes, meticulously illustrated with her favorite anime characters, making the otherwise dull content easily digestible.
Mi Fen discovered a drawing of herself hidden within the notes, which Yuan Sen quickly tried to hide, claiming it was a mistake. In contrast, Monkey was not so fortunate. He was under Han Yansheng's strict supervision, struggling through countless math papers. He lamented the difficulty of math, wishing Shi could create study games like Yuan Sen did with comics, but acknowledged Shi's busy schedule.
When Monkey started to pray to various deities for passing grades, Han Yansheng threatened to call his aunt, the discipline dean, for a "prep talk," which immediately made Monkey fall in line, promising to do as many papers as needed. With Jian Dan's encouragement, Mi Fen diligently prepared for her exams, making every day productive. When exam day finally arrived, everyone wrote earnestly, pouring their efforts onto the papers.
After the grueling exams concluded, Monkey expressed immense relief, feeling the "air of freedom." He tried to call over Jian Dan and Mi Fen, but Jian Dan, appearing anxious, quickly pulled Mi Fen away. Mi Fen sensed something was amiss between Jian Dan and Han Yansheng, but Jian Dan remained silent. Gu Entong later approached Han Yansheng, suggesting they go shopping to unwind after exams.
When Han Yansheng initially declined, citing a busy schedule, Gu Entong explained that she had accidentally ripped Shi's cuff button and wanted to buy him a new shirt as a surprise, asking Han Yansheng to try on clothes since they were a similar size. Reluctant to go alone with Gu Entong, Han Yansheng brought Shi along to the mall. Once they arrived, Han Yansheng quickly made an excuse and left, leaving Gu Entong to shop with a surprised Shi.
Gu Entong then tried to make the best of the situation, urging Shi to try on clothes, which she insisted were a gift for him. A sales assistant complimented Shi, mistakenly assuming he was Gu Entong's boyfriend, which Gu Entong awkwardly denied. Jian Dan and Mi Fen observed Gu Entong and Shi together, leaving Jian Dan perplexed, as she believed Gu Entong liked Han Yansheng. Jian Dan later saw Shi crying alone, and concerned, approached him.
Shi explained that he was crying from eating wasabi and clarified that he was not dating Gu Entong nor did he like her. Relieved, Jian Dan returned to Mi Fen, voicing her confusion about Gu Entong's behavior, who then speculated that Gu Entong was simply jealous of Jian Dan and was trying to drive a wedge between her and Han Yansheng.
As Mi Fen and Yuan Sen's relationship deepened, Mi Fen decided she wanted to confess her feelings to him, receiving full support from Jian Dan. To help, Jian Dan visited the coffee shop where Shi worked to inquire about renting the venue for the confession. The owner, amused by a girl initiating a public confession, gave her a discounted price of 800 yuan since the recipient was Shi's dormmate.
Jian Dan found the price steep but reserved the venue, promising to gather the funds. Later, Mi Fen expressed concern over the 800 yuan cost, suggesting they cancel, but Jian Dan encouraged her, emphasizing that Yuan Sen's personality meant he would never make the first move. Jian Dan then declared she had a plan to raise the money.
Shi, upon hearing from the coffee shop owner that Jian Dan had rented the venue for a confession to one of his dormmates, immediately informed Han Yansheng and their friends. This quickly led to rampant speculation among them that Jian Dan was preparing to confess her feelings to Han Yansheng. Han Yansheng, with a smug attitude, initially dismissed it, saying many girls liked him.
However, his friends pointed out Jian Dan's reserved nature and the recent coolness between them, which Han Yansheng countered by claiming she had visited his office that morning showing great concern. Convinced that Han Yansheng was the target of the confession, his friends teased him, asking if he would accept. To raise the 800 yuan, Jian Dan and Mi Fen set up a stall, offering a "lucky draw spin wheel" for discounted items.
A student purchased an item, winning a "buy one, get one free" offer on men's underwear, which he then gave to Han Yansheng, explaining that Jian Dan was trying to earn money for the confession venue rental. Han Yansheng learned about Jian Dan's financial situation through this. Meanwhile, Gu Entong arrived at the stall. After Mi Fen left to restock, Gu Entong chose an item and spun the wheel, winning a 90% discount.
However, she then loudly claimed the item was broken and used, accusing Jian Dan and Mi Fen of scamming customers. This caused a commotion, drawing the attention of the discipline dean, who confiscated their remaining goods and issued a warning, causing Jian Dan and Mi Fen to lose their earnings and their merchandise. Distraught over their confiscated goods and lost earnings, Jian Dan and Mi Fen despaired over how to raise the money.
Han Yansheng then approached them, offering a "quick, high-paying, but intense and tiring" job. They readily accepted, and he led them to the swimming pool, explaining that the facility needed thorough cleaning and they were hired as "hourly workers" to make it "spick and span" before morning.
Though initially overwhelmed by the sheer size of the pool, Mi Fen eventually realized that 800 yuan for half a day's work was a good deal, while Jian Dan believed the pool genuinely needed cleaning, dismissing Mi Fen's suspicion about Han Yansheng's motives. They quickly got to work. By morning, Jian Dan and Mi Fen successfully completed the arduous cleaning task.
Han Yansheng paid them the 800 yuan, adding that he only hired them because of their urgent financial need, as he would typically prefer professionals for better efficiency and results. Mi Fen was overjoyed, exclaiming that they finally had the money for the confession venue.
Later, a friend from the swimming club offered to deduct the pool cleaning fee from the club's budget, but Han Yansheng declined, clarifying that he paid for it personally and it had nothing to do with the club. Jian Dan and Mi Fen, with the help of Shi, began decorating the coffee shop for the confession. Shi, before leaving, wished them good luck. Jian Dan was left alone to finish the final touches when Han Yansheng arrived unexpectedly early.
Surprised, Jian Dan asked why he was there, to which he retorted, "Who did you think it would be?" She then enlisted his help with the decorations. Han Yansheng, assuming the confession message might be hidden in the paper cranes, began opening them. Jian Dan, discovering him unfolding her freshly folded cranes, chided him, but he simply told her to go rest.
Episode 13 Recap
To raise the 800 yuan needed for a venue rental, Jian Dan and Mi Fen started selling various items around campus. Upon learning that Jian Dan intended to confess her feelings to Han Yansheng, Gu Entong, consumed by resentment, deliberately damaged their merchandise. This left customers displeased and Jian Dan and Mi Fen feeling wronged, as they had carefully inspected all goods. The commotion attracted school administrators, and the discipline dean severely reprimanded them, confiscating their remaining stock.
As the two felt dejected, Han Yansheng approached them, offering a way to earn the money they needed. Hopeful, Jian Dan and Mi Fen followed Han Yansheng to the swimming pool, where he tasked them with cleaning the entire facility within a set timeframe for the 800 yuan reward. Exhausted but determined, they worked diligently and finally received the payment from Han Yansheng. Excitedly, they proceeded to decorate the chosen venue, creating a romantic and beautiful setting for the confession.
With the preparations almost complete, Mi Fen left to change her clothes. As Jian Dan put the finishing touches on the decorations, Han Yansheng arrived. Seeing the stunning setup, he mistakenly believed it was prepared for him, his mood lifting significantly. He casually picked up a remote control from a table and pressed a button. Suddenly, all the lights illuminated, and the prepared balloons soared into the sky.
Jian Dan and Mi Fen frantically tried to stop it, but it was too late. A large banner displaying a photo of Mi Fen and Yuan Sen unfurled. Just then, Yuan Sen arrived. Mi Fen, deciding to proceed with her confession regardless, expressed her deep feelings for Yuan Sen. She told him that he had always been her idol and she felt lucky to be his friend, truly happy when they were together.
Despite their differences outside of cosplay, she truly, deeply liked him and asked if he would be her boyfriend. Yuan Sen, beaming with a smile, was about to answer when he spotted someone secretly filming them. Mi Fen and Yuan Sen immediately gave chase to the perpetrator, Huo Zuyang. Han Yansheng, realizing the entire setup was a misunderstanding and not for him, felt a pang of disappointment, but also guilt for accidentally disrupting his friend’s special moment.
Meanwhile, Gu Entong, upon learning that the confession was not directed at Han Yansheng, felt a wave of relief and happiness. Back at the dorm, Mi Fen was heartbroken, lamenting that her long-prepared confession had been ruined by the hidden camera. Jian Dan comforted her, urging her not to lose hope. The video of the disrupted confession was uploaded online, exposing Yuan Sen as Prince Luo Shui.
The online community harshly condemned Mi Fen, deeming her unworthy of Prince Luo Shui and telling her to know her place. Mi Fen became even more despondent after reading the comments. To shield Mi Fen from further harm, Yuan Sen posted a public message on social media. He openly confirmed his true identity as Yuan Sen, an art student at Ocean University, explaining that he had worn a mask to keep his private life out of the spotlight.
He stated that he would no longer hide behind it. He also clarified that the girl in the video was not his girlfriend because he had not yet successfully confessed to her. He then addressed Mi Fen directly, referring to her as "Lucky Koi Girl," and asked her to come downstairs to her dorm, where he would be waiting for her reply. Jian Dan excitedly urged Mi Fen to go.
Mi Fen rushed downstairs to find Yuan Sen waiting with a bouquet of roses. He formally expressed his feelings and asked if she would be his girlfriend. Overjoyed, Mi Fen excitedly accepted, embracing him tightly. Later, while everyone was together, they discussed the confession. Someone joked about a "Sweet Confession Day" promotion that was now available, inspired by Mi Fen's event, noting that Han Yansheng wouldn't have had to spend 800 yuan if it had launched earlier.
Han Yansheng offered to return the 800 yuan to Yuan Sen, but Yuan Sen declined, calling it a gift. When others teased Han Yansheng about Jian Dan having been rumored to confess to him, he dismissed the idea that he had anyone he needed to confess to. He then kept a "love formula" flyer that outlined rules for gauging interest, such as how quickly someone answers a phone call.
Later, Mi Fen and Yuan Sen enjoyed fried chicken together, with Mi Fen expressing that Yuan Sen liked her "cute and chubby." Jian Dan, whose pants were stained with ketchup from eating fried chicken, was summoned by Han Yansheng to his office for a favor. He offered her clothes meant for a photo shoot to change into, mentioning that he was headed to the Swimming Club.
In his office, Han Yansheng then showed Jian Dan the "love formula" flyer, reading rules about how people pay extra attention to their appearance around someone they like. He then offered her an extra box of fried chicken, saying he’d throw it out if she didn’t take it, which she did to avoid waste. He continued reading from the flyer, highlighting the most important rule: "Someone who truly likes you will always put you before themselves."
Jian Dan asked to pack the leftovers for Mi Fen. Han Yansheng also returned Jian Dan’s phone, which she had left in his office. Gu Entong proposed hosting a New Year's party, and Han Yansheng suggested inviting Mi Fen and Jian Dan, to which Gu Entong, despite her displeasure, agreed. The annual city swimming competition opened for registration. Han Yansheng, however, refused to participate, still affected by a past traumatic incident involving his friend, Nan Yuan.
Gu Entong explained that during that incident, despite strong winds and choppy waves, Han Yansheng insisted on entering the water and nearly drowned, with Gu Entong saving him. Since then, he developed a deep psychological trauma regarding water. Gu Entong looked pensive. Jian Dan later saw Gu Entong and Shi shopping together, and felt pity for Han Yansheng. She found him in tears, only to discover he had just eaten a spicy mustard pastry.
He firmly stated that he and Gu Entong were not in a romantic relationship. Gu Entong sought out Jian Dan, first inviting her to the New Year's party, then shared her concerns about Han Yansheng's refusal to swim. She asked Jian Dan to persuade him, acknowledging Jian Dan’s psychology background and their good relationship. Jian Dan questioned why Gu Entong, who claimed to be so special to Han Yansheng, couldn't convince him herself.
Gu Entong admitted she had tried everything to no avail. Jian Dan confessed she didn't know how to persuade him either. Gu Entong then handed her a USB drive, containing a compilation of Han Yansheng's past swimming victories, hoping it would reignite his passion. Jian Dan went to see Han Yansheng, finding him dressed in a swimsuit, seemingly about to enter the water. However, he ultimately failed to do so, angrily throwing his goggles to the ground.
After he left, Jian Dan picked them up. Han Yansheng had secretly commissioned a silver necklace, intending to confess to Jian Dan on New Year's Day. At the lively New Year's party, they played a game involving task cards. Mi Fen and Yuan Sen completed a "princess-carry and five squats" challenge, which others jokingly called "couple missions." Another person performed a girl group dance. When it was Jian Dan's turn, her card asked if she had had her first kiss.
Someone joked if it was the "upside-down kiss" with Han Yansheng, making Jian Dan uncomfortable. Han Yansheng's card instructed him to kiss the person to his left or right, and he explicitly chose Jian Dan, creating a stir among the guests. However, he led Jian Dan outside, stating he wouldn't kiss her "here." Outside, Han Yansheng expressed that he had something he had wanted to tell her for a long time.
Jian Dan, caught off guard, wondered if he was about to kiss her and felt unprepared. Han Yansheng presented her with the silver necklace as a New Year's gift. However, at that moment, a video of Gu Entong was displayed on a screen. Jian Dan then reciprocated by giving him a new pair of goggles, reminding him that his old ones had broken by the pool.
She sincerely hoped that he would overcome the reasons that led him to abandon swimming and return to the pool to fulfill his dreams. Han Yansheng's expression instantly darkened. He sternly rebuked her, demanding to know who she thought she was to discuss his dreams and to stay out of his business. He then turned and walked away without looking back, leaving Jian Dan calling his name, but he told her to stop following him.
Episode 14 Recap
Han Yansheng’s face changed instantly as he saw the photos and videos displayed on the big screen. He stared coldly at Jian Dan and accused her sharply, asking who she thought she was to interfere in his dreams and his personal affairs. He then turned and walked away without looking back, leaving Jian Dan standing there, unsure what to do. Gu Entong observed this from afar, feeling a hidden satisfaction.
As winter break approached, Mi Fen announced her plans to go sketching in Mingshan with Yuan Sen, while Jian Dan shared that she would return to her hometown to visit her grandmother. Monkey relayed these plans to Han Yansheng, but he seemed indifferent. Monkey also tried to invite Han Yansheng to hang out over the break, but he declined. Later, Monkey asked Han Yansheng to inquire about his girlfriend's roommates' winter break plans, specifically asking about Jian Dan.
Han Yansheng confirmed that Jian Dan was also going home. Upon arriving home, Jian Dan’s grandmother greeted her with great joy and had prepared many of Jian Dan's favorite dishes. Just then, a courier delivered a package, which Jian Dan discovered was from Han Yansheng. Inside, she found medicine for heart disease.
Her grandmother, realizing she could no longer hide it, confessed that Han Yansheng had known about her chronic heart failure for a while and had been helping her purchase the medication. The next day, Jian Dan took her grandmother's medical report to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed her grandmother's condition was serious and required immediate surgery, noting that the cost would be substantial.
Mi Fen called Jian Dan, enthusiastically describing a beautiful waterfall in Mingshan and asking Jian Dan to send her regards to her grandmother. Jian Dan’s voice sounded troubled, but she claimed to be fine. Back home, Jian Dan informed her grandmother about a good school social practice activity that offered a stipend and valuable social experience, expressing her desire to participate. Her grandmother, though concerned about the work, agreed.
Her grandmother also prepared some local specialties for Jian Dan to give to Han Yansheng as a thank you for his help. Jian Dan then returned to school with her luggage, but the dorm lady refused her entry, explaining that school regulations required advance application, despite Jian Dan’s earnest pleas about an urgent situation. During the winter break, Han Yansheng and Gu Entong volunteered at a nursing home. Fellow volunteers noted their good teamwork and long-standing dedication.
Gu Entong expressed regret that she couldn't volunteer more due to her part-time job. Afterward, Shi came to pick up Gu Entong in his boss's car. Han Yansheng mentioned he had plans to game with Monkey later. On their way, Shi and Gu Entong spotted Jian Dan handing out flyers for a chocolate pudding cake shop. Shi offered her a ride, but Jian Dan said her nearby budget hotel was just two stops away.
As they prepared to leave, Shi’s car wouldn't start. He recalled his boss mentioning battery issues. Jian Dan asked if he had a spare, located it in the trunk, and managed to temporarily fix the car. She advised taking it to a repair shop to be safe. Shi and Gu Entong invited her along, and she agreed after quickly changing her clothes. At the repair shop, the owner informed them the car wouldn't be ready until the next day.
He was impressed by Jian Dan's ability to fix the car, especially after she mentioned having worked on tractors. When Jian Dan inquired about the "help wanted" sign and the offer of free accommodation, the owner hesitated, citing that his staff were all men. However, after Shi advocated for Jian Dan and Jian Dan assured him she was capable, the owner agreed to hire her. Jian Dan decided it was best not to tell Han Yansheng about her new job.
Later, while playing a game with Monkey and Han Yansheng, Shi casually asked Han Yansheng if he had contacted Jian Dan recently. Han Yansheng replied that he hadn't. Shi then mentioned that his boss’s car was at the repair shop and asked Han Yansheng to pick it up the following day as he had other commitments.
The next day, when Han Yansheng arrived to collect the car, he was surprised to find Jian Dan there, covered in grease, working on a vehicle. He offered her financial assistance, but she insisted on earning her own money, stating she found the job "pretty good" despite Han Yansheng’s implied disapproval. Later, Monkey noticed Han Yansheng seemed preoccupied.
He told Han Yansheng that he had seen Jian Dan handing out flyers and suspected she might be facing financial difficulties, possibly related to her grandmother's illness. Monkey then revealed that Jian Dan was living in the repair shop's dorm, surrounded by male employees, which he considered unsafe. He reminded Han Yansheng that his aunt, Jiang Zhishan, had been studying abroad for over a year, leaving her house empty and requiring regular cleaning.
Taking Monkey's advice, Han Yansheng went to the repair shop and presented Jian Dan with a "housecleaning service contract" for his aunt Jiang Zhishan's house. He explained that his aunt's previous cleaner had quit, and he needed someone to live there, clean, and look after the place. He emphasized that this was a job, not charity, and urged her not to refuse.
Seeing no other viable option after being informed that two new male employees would be sharing her current dorm space, Jian Dan signed the contract. Jian Dan then brought Han Yansheng the local specialties her grandmother had prepared for him. She thanked him for the medicine he sent her grandmother. He admitted he wasn't intentionally hiding it, and she confirmed her grandmother had asked him to keep it a secret.
Han Yansheng, finding the cured meat troublesome to prepare, asked Jian Dan to cook it for him, promising to come over for dinner. That evening, he arrived as promised. Jian Dan had prepared several dishes using the cured meat. Han Yansheng ate with enjoyment but, to tease her, claimed the food was "not bad" but "a bit off from his standard."
He asked when she learned to cook, and Jian Dan explained that she started around age ten after her parents' accident, wanting to help her ailing grandmother who was working hard to support them both. Han Yansheng was visibly moved by her story. Jian Dan then noticed a group photo on the table and asked about a person she didn't recognize, though she had seen him in a video from Gu Entong.
Han Yansheng gravely explained that it was Nan Yuan, his best friend, who had passed away. He recounted a past diving accident where their equipment malfunctioned; Gu Entong had given the spare to Han Yansheng, but Nan Yuan tragically did not survive. Another day, Gu Entong suggested to Han Yansheng they go watch a new movie, but he said he had plans for the evening.
Later, Han Yansheng bought razor shells after Jian Dan mentioned it was her best dish, asking her to cook it light. He later ordered a large quantity of meat online, telling Jian Dan that she would be responsible for grilling while he would eat. Meanwhile, Jian Dan's colleagues suggested celebrating payday with a big meal, but she declined, planning to treat Han Yansheng to barbecue, having heard about a 50% discount at a new BBQ restaurant.
On the last day of the volunteer activity, Gu Entong organized a celebratory dinner and invited Han Yansheng, who agreed to attend but warned he might be late. Jian Dan arrived at the BBQ restaurant first, hoping to surprise Han Yansheng. However, when a waiter offered her a shared table, she spotted Han Yansheng, Gu Entong, and the other volunteers already seated at a nearby table.
Shocked and disheartened, Jian Dan declined the shared table, stating she wouldn't eat, and left. Shortly after, Han Yansheng abruptly stood up, telling Gu Entong he had to leave. Gu Entong tried to dissuade him, pointing out that it was inappropriate to leave when everyone was celebrating, but he insisted and departed.
Episode 15 Recap
After hearing Han Yansheng's account, Jian Dan understood why he had been so angry at the New Year's party and why he had a fear of going into the water. However, this version of events was different from what Gu Entong had told her. Han Yansheng revealed that the man in the photo she didn't recognize was his best friend, Nan Yuan, who had passed away.
Nan Yuan and Han Yansheng grew up together, but Nan Yuan tragically drowned because of an incident involving Han Yansheng. Han Yansheng recounted a diving trip where, despite rough waves, he insisted on going. Nan Yuan and Gu Entong accompanied him. Underwater, Nan Yuan's air tank and buoyancy vest failed. Han Yansheng tried to reach him but found his own tank was also malfunctioning.
He struggled to pull Nan Yuan to the surface, but Han Yansheng himself began to lose consciousness from lack of oxygen. Gu Entong then gave him her spare regulator, allowing him to regain his senses, but by then, he could only watch helplessly as Nan Yuan's body sank and disappeared. Han Yansheng apologized for his outburst at the party, admitting his emotions were raw after seeing the video.
Jian Dan, hearing the full story, apologized for not knowing and acknowledged that the incident wasn't Han Yansheng's fault, but she still felt puzzled that Gu Entong's story had been so different. Jian Dan received her salary and wanted to treat Han Yansheng to barbecue. She had been waiting for him, but he was late because he was caught up after a volunteer activity, with Gu Entong and other teammates keeping him busy drinking.
Jian Dan, after waiting a long time, left the restaurant without eating. Han Yansheng then found her, and they decided to eat at home. As they walked, the first snow of the year began to fall. Jian Dan happily spun around in the snow, and Han Yansheng appeared behind her. He had rushed to find her because he had seen a phrase: 'If you watch the first snow with your girlfriend, you can be together forever.'
They discussed eating at home. Han Yansheng suggested having some alcohol, and Jian Dan, seeing a social media post from Mi Fen with the same phrase, suddenly felt awkward, wondering if Han Yansheng had misunderstood her invitation to barbecue. Han Yansheng went to get some drinks, and as they talked and drank, they both became quite tipsy.
The next morning, Mi Fen and Yuan Sen, returning from a sketching trip, arrived at Jian Dan's place and knocked for a long time. Jian Dan, roused by the knocking, discovered she and Han Yansheng had fallen asleep on the sofa, tangled together. Peeking through the peephole, she saw Mi Fen and Yuan Sen and quickly tried to wake Han Yansheng, urging him to hide in the bathroom.
She worried about how it would look for them to be found alone together in the morning. Han Yansheng, however, saw no reason to hide, claiming he had done nothing wrong. As they bickered, Yuan Sen used a spare key hidden outside to open the door, explaining that he and Han Yansheng used to frequent the place. Mi Fen walked in, catching Jian Dan and Han Yansheng in a compromising position on the sofa.
Jian Dan tried to explain that it wasn't what it looked like and that it was an exception because they were just drunk, but Han Yansheng's blunt affirmation of "What you saw is what happened" only made things worse. To diffuse the situation, Jian Dan quickly offered to cook breakfast for Mi Fen and Yuan Sen. Later, Mi Fen expressed concern, telling Jian Dan that Gu Entong's actions seemed intentional and that Jian Dan should be wary of her.
She pointed out that Gu Entong had purposely given Jian Dan misleading information about Nan Yuan and had prepared those diving goggles and video for Han Yansheng at the New Year's party, despite knowing his trauma. Gu Entong contacted the Qingzhou Volunteer Association, proposing an exchange event and then informed Han Yansheng after the fact. Han Yansheng had to agree to lead the team and attend the event, meaning he would be away for the entire week.
Before leaving, he specifically asked Monkey to check in on Jian Dan. Monkey was initially reluctant to go to Jiang Zhishan's place, as Jiang Zhishan was Han Yansheng's aunt and his "childhood terror." However, Han Yansheng assured him that his aunt was overseas and wouldn't be back anytime soon, and even offered a game skin as a bribe. Monkey then agreed to visit Jian Dan. Monkey arrived at Jiang Zhishan's house, where Jian Dan was preparing dinner.
He accepted the food eagerly, explaining that Han Yansheng was worried about her and had asked him to check in, even though Han Yansheng and Gu Entong were already on their way to Qingzhou for the volunteer event. Monkey then started complaining about Jiang Zhishan, calling her his "childhood nightmare" and stating she couldn't even get married. To his horror, Jiang Zhishan suddenly appeared behind him, just back from abroad.
She was angry to find someone living in her house without permission and questioned Jian Dan and Han Yansheng's relationship. Jian Dan clarified that they were just ordinary friends. Jiang Zhishan told Jian Dan to pack up and leave immediately, which Jian Dan agreed to do. Monkey, terrified, quickly made his escape. Han Yansheng was on the bus to Qingzhou when he received a phone call from the village chief, who couldn't reach Jian Dan.
The chief informed him that Jian Dan's grandma had collapsed and been admitted to the Central Hospital. Han Yansheng immediately told the driver to stop, instructing Gu Entong to take charge of the volunteer event, given her experience. He then hailed a taxi to the hospital. He tried calling Jian Dan, but her phone was off. He called Monkey, who started explaining about Jiang Zhishan's unexpected return and his fright, then the call cut off.
Han Yansheng then called Jiang Zhishan, who informed him that Jian Dan had left her place. Han Yansheng worried his aunt was angry about Jian Dan staying there but prioritized getting to the hospital. Meanwhile, Jian Dan was waiting for a bus, her phone dead. She borrowed a power bank from a nearby girl. As soon as her phone powered on, she saw Han Yansheng's message about her grandma. She quickly rushed to the hospital.
Upon arrival, Han Yansheng reassured her that the doctor said her grandma had arrived in time and was out of danger. After the surgery, the doctor confirmed it was successful and that Grandma would only need a few days of observation before discharge. A nurse requested payment for the hospital bill. Han Yansheng volunteered to pay, telling Jian Dan to stay with her grandma, as she would want to see Jian Dan first when she woke up.
Another patient remarked on how thoughtful Jian Dan's "boyfriend" was, which Jian Dan quickly denied. Later, Jian Dan transferred the money for the medical expenses back to Han Yansheng, also returning the excess funds he had given her for cleaning the house, as the owner had returned. Grandma soon woke up, and Jian Dan embraced her tearfully.
Grandma expressed guilt, noting that it was New Year's Eve, and Jian Dan was spending it in the hospital with her instead of watching fireworks in Shenmu Village. Jian Dan reassured her that being with her was all that mattered. After Grandma fell asleep, Han Yansheng sent a text message asking Jian Dan to step outside. He then took her to a spot where they could watch the New Year's fireworks together.
They wished each other a Happy Chinese New Year, sharing a beautiful moment. Sometime later, Jiang Zhishan moved into Jian Dan's university dorm. Jian Dan was unaware of her identity as Han Yansheng's aunt. The dorm lady informed Jian Dan and Mi Fen that a new student, a fashion design major, an international student one year older than them, would be moving into their empty bed and asked them to tidy it.
Mi Fen promptly left to have dinner with Yuan Sen, leaving Jian Dan to clean the bed alone. Han Yansheng arrived with Jiang Zhishan's luggage. Jiang Zhishan questioned why Han Yansheng was helping instead of Monkey, to which Han Yansheng merely replied that she should know the reason. Jiang Zhishan asked Han Yansheng to handle her luggage while she went to register. As Jian Dan was in the shower, she heard footsteps, mistook Jiang Zhishan for Mi Fen, and called out, asking her to hand her a towel.
Episode 16 Recap
Han Yansheng was helping Jiang Zhishan move her luggage into the dorm room when Jian Dan, who was showering, called out, mistaking him for Mi Fen. She asked him to grab her towel from the chair. Han Yansheng, flustered, silently handed her the towel. From inside the bathroom, Jian Dan spoke, expressing concern for her grandma and mentioning that before leaving the hospital, Grandma had urged her to treat Han Yansheng better.
However, Jian Dan mused that she didn't know how to do that since he seemed to have everything he needed. Hearing this, Han Yansheng silently left, muttering to himself, "Who says I have everything?" Jian Dan later received a school notification about upcoming club evaluations. She approached Han Yansheng to ask about the rules. He explained that these annual evaluations determine funding, with lower-ranked clubs receiving no funds and facing disbandment if they consistently remain at the bottom.
Jian Dan pressed him on what constituted a low-ranked club, and Han Yansheng listed newly founded clubs with zero awards and average members. Jian Dan immediately realized this description fit her Rock Climbing Club perfectly and worried aloud about securing funding, wishing for a "rock climbing genius" to appear. Meanwhile, Jiang Zhishan completed her enrollment, and her teacher advised her to join a club for extra credit.
Separately, a girl asked Gu Entong to deliver a love letter to Su Lishi. Gu Entong agreed but was seen by Jiang Zhishan about to discard the letter, prompting Jiang Zhishan to bluntly remark that Gu Entong was "as fake as ever." Jiang Zhishan went to the Rock Climbing Club. Gu Entong gave her directions but chose not to accompany her. At the club, members were training when Jiang Zhishan inquired about the president.
Jian Dan stepped forward, revealing herself to be the president, which Jiang Zhishan found hard to believe. Jiang Zhishan presented her impressive resume, detailing multiple first-place finishes and gold medals in international and national climbing competitions. Jian Dan was overjoyed, believing Jiang Zhishan's expertise would secure a high ranking for their club. However, after inspecting the old equipment and insecure ropes, Jiang Zhishan declared the club "seriously amateur" and left.
The other club members lamented her departure, recognizing her skill and connection to Han Yansheng, while Jian Dan admitted she didn't know how to convince her to stay. Later, Jian Dan encountered Jiang Zhishan at the dorms and urged her to reconsider joining the Rock Climbing Club. She explained that with Jiang Zhishan's talent, the club could achieve a high ranking, secure funding, and address its equipment issues.
After some consideration, Jiang Zhishan proposed a climbing match three days later: if Jian Dan won, she would join. Jian Dan readily agreed to the challenge. Around this time, Gu Entong delivered the love letter to Su Lishi. When asked by Su Lishi if she was envious, Gu Entong claimed she preferred peace over receiving love letters. Han Yansheng later spoke with Jiang Zhishan, asking if her challenge was related to Jian Dan staying at her place.
He clarified that Jian Dan was unaware of the housing arrangement and that targeting her was unfair. Jiang Zhishan maintained that her primary concern was not wasting time on an unprofessional club, despite joining for academic credit. Han Yansheng then vouched for Jian Dan, emphasizing her hard work in establishing the club and his belief in her potential, asking Jiang Zhishan to give her a fair chance. Jiang Zhishan reiterated her promise to join if Jian Dan could beat her.
Jian Dan trained tirelessly for the match. Han Yansheng brought her food and fruit, encouraging her to rest, though he playfully remarked that she was unlikely to win anyway. Jian Dan, determined, asserted that she would succeed in getting Jiang Zhishan to join the club. On the day of the match, Han Yansheng was called away to a student council meeting about club evaluations. He asked Monkey to livestream the match for him and cheer for Jian Dan.
Before the competition, many spectators doubted Jian Dan's chances against a professional like Jiang Zhishan, who herself told Jian Dan not to fall "too far behind." As the match began, Jiang Zhishan quickly established a significant lead. Despite having sustained a prior foot injury, Jian Dan climbed with incredible tenacity, gradually catching up. Just as she was about to pull even, Jian Dan slipped and re-injured her leg.
Refusing to give up, she persevered with astonishing willpower, ultimately reaching the summit at the exact same moment as Jiang Zhishan, resulting in a tie. The crowd erupted in cheers. Han Yansheng, receiving an urgent message from Monkey about Jian Dan's injury, immediately left his meeting and rushed to the scene. After the match, Jiang Zhishan declared that since she hadn't won, she had lost, and she would honor her promise to join the Rock Climbing Club.
Jian Dan was thrilled and, in addition to welcoming her as a member, invited her to become the club's coach, to impart her knowledge and skills to make everyone stronger. Jiang Zhishan accepted this new role. Seeing Jian Dan's bleeding leg, Han Yansheng immediately scooped her up and carried her towards the infirmary. On the way, Jian Dan asked him to put her down, insisting she could walk.
Han Yansheng responded that he felt partially responsible for Jiang Zhishan's initial animosity toward her. Meanwhile, Gu Entong, upon seeing photos of Han Yansheng carrying Jian Dan (presumably from Monkey), became visibly annoyed. Later, at the infirmary, as Han Yansheng applied medicine to Jian Dan's leg, she complained about his technique. Han Yansheng playfully reminded her about Grandma's wish for her to treat him better. Jian Dan then realized that Han Yansheng had overheard her conversation.
She also deduced that he was the one who handed her the towel during her shower. Han Yansheng admitted it, explaining that he had been helping his aunt move into the dorm with the dorm lady's permission. Jiang Zhishan began her role as coach with strict "demon" training methods, pushing the new club members with intense endurance exercises. Many members complained loudly about the exhausting, hours-long sessions and threatened to quit.
Jian Dan calmed them, defending Jiang Zhishan by highlighting her impressive climbing achievements and suggesting that the coach might have simply overlooked individual fitness levels. She encouraged the members to be more understanding and to communicate their concerns. Overhearing Jian Dan's supportive words, Jiang Zhishan's impression of her deepened positively. One day, Jiang Zhishan arrived at the club to find it empty and worried that everyone had quit.
To her surprise, Jian Dan and the other members entered, carrying a birthday cake and gifts, having planned a surprise celebration for her. Jian Dan explained she had remembered Jiang Zhishan's birthday from her resume. Jiang Zhishan was visibly moved by their thoughtfulness. Later, Gu Entong and Monkey discussed Jiang Zhishan's birthday, with Monkey complaining about her specific gift list and the difficulties he faced in trying to book a popular restaurant she wanted.
During the birthday celebration, Jiang Zhishan accidentally smeared cake on Han Yansheng's face. Later that evening, at a gathering, Jiang Zhishan insisted Jian Dan drink more, despite Jian Dan admitting she had a low tolerance for liquor, though she could manage red wine. Han Yansheng, heavily intoxicated, caused a scene outside. Jian Dan attempted to guide him, but he was disoriented and nearly walked into traffic. She called Su Lishi to pick him up.
As Jian Dan helped the drunken Han Yansheng, he slurred, "Do you know what it feels like to cuddle a cat?" Su Lishi eventually arrived, remarking how cute Han Yansheng was when drunk. Han Yansheng, still groggy, asked, "What did you say just now?"
Episode 17 Recap
Han Yansheng was lost in thought, holding the silver necklace he had yet to give to Jian Dan. Monkey burst in, reminding him it was Jiang Zhishan's birthday and they needed to go. In his haste to leave, Han Yansheng accidentally dropped the necklace box onto a pile of other birthday gifts. Later, at a popular restaurant Monkey had booked for Jiang Zhishan's birthday, both Han Yansheng and Jiang Zhishan drank too much.
When Han Yansheng stumbled out of the restaurant, Jian Dan quickly told Monkey to look after Jiang Zhishan and ran after him. Completely intoxicated, Han Yansheng began directing traffic in the middle of the road. Jian Dan struggled to pull him to safety. Spotting a stray cat, Han Yansheng embraced it, then grabbed Jian Dan's hand to mimic petting a cat, but instead used her hand to stroke his own head.
Inside a taxi, Jian Dan found the sleeping Han Yansheng rather endearing and dared to pinch his cheek. Suddenly, he opened his eyes, gazed intently at her, and slowly leaned in. Just as he was about to kiss her, the driver slammed on the brakes, sending them both jarringly onto the seat. Meanwhile, Monkey faced his own challenge with Jiang Zhishan, who insisted she wasn't drunk and demanded more alcohol, despite Monkey's protests that the restaurant was closed.
Jiang Zhishan, who had previously compiled embarrassing photos of Monkey dressed in women's clothing into a deck of poker cards to blackmail him, continued to toy with him. Monkey, trying to find and destroy the photos, cunningly pretended to search for them, prompting a drunken Jiang Zhishan to blurt out that she had hidden them in the Rock Climbing Club's locker. Elated, Monkey knew exactly where to go.
The next day, Han Yansheng woke up well past noon with a pounding headache. Monkey informed him that Jian Dan had brought him back to the dorm. Han Yansheng tried to recall the previous night's events, remembering up to the taxi incident but then blacking out. Across campus, Jiang Zhishan also woke up late. Jian Dan, ever thoughtful, prepared honey water to help her sober up.
Jiang Zhishan noticed a small box among her gifts but couldn't recognize the inscribed Greek letters. Jian Dan identified it as "Hypatia," the name of a Greek female mathematician. Uninterested, Jiang Zhishan decided to give the necklace to Jian Dan. When Han Yansheng later saw Jian Dan wearing the necklace, he mistakenly believed it was the one he had intended to give her. Recalling an ambiguous interaction from the night before, he assumed his drunken confession had been successful.
Secretly pleased, he invited Jian Dan to lunch. As they waited in the cafeteria line, he slyly reached for what he thought was Jian Dan's hand but grabbed a large man's hand instead, causing him public embarrassment and making him lose his appetite.
Later, Han Yansheng received a phone call from Jiang Zhishan, who, while thanking him for a different gift, mentioned she had given away the necklace he supposedly sent to her, clarifying that it was now with Jian Dan. This only deepened Han Yansheng's confusion, as he didn't remember sending any necklace to Jiang Zhishan. Taking advantage of the empty Rock Climbing Club, Monkey sneaked into Jiang Zhishan's locker and triumphantly shredded all the "unpresentable" photos.
However, Jiang Zhishan walked in and angrily confronted him for being in her locker. Just then, Huo Zuyang, always on the lookout for juicy gossip, arrived. To avoid exposing the photo incident (and the underwear Monkey accidentally had in his hands), Monkey desperately pleaded with Jiang Zhishan to pretend to be his girlfriend, hastily claiming the underwear was a birthday gift for her.
Playing along, Jiang Zhishan dramatically thanked Monkey for the gift, specifically mentioning that it was "her size," and the two displayed an exaggerated affection. This seemed to convince Huo Zuyang that they were a normal couple, and he left without a story. After Huo Zuyang departed, Jiang Zhishan confronted Monkey about how he knew where the poker cards were.
Monkey admitted she had told him while drunk but feigned ignorance about anything else he might have done to her while she was intoxicated, frustrating Jiang Zhishan. Observing Han Yansheng and Jian Dan's mutual affection but their hesitation to confess, Jiang Zhishan, known for her straightforward nature, decided to play matchmaker. She shared her plan with Monkey, who enthusiastically agreed to help.
Earlier, Han Yansheng had finally confirmed with Monkey that the necklace was indeed intended for Jian Dan and that she was his long-lost pen pal, leading him to plan to confess when the time was right. Jiang Zhishan then asked Jian Dan to accompany her to a mixer, claiming she wanted to find a boyfriend.
Monkey, eager to set the plan in motion, then informed Han Yansheng that Jian Dan was going to the mixer to look for a boyfriend and that she had even made a pair of ceramic couple mugs for someone she liked. Hearing this, Han Yansheng immediately panicked, fearing Jian Dan would find another boyfriend and misunderstand his intentions with the necklace. He rushed to the mixer, pulling Jian Dan aside.
Jian Dan, who had actually made a ceramic cup for Han Yansheng (though it broke and was being repaired by Monkey for her), was upset by his sudden interference. She angrily questioned his right to control her actions, asking, "Who even are you to me?" Han Yansheng, looking directly at her, boldly declared, "You're my girlfriend. It is my business."
Episode 18 Recap
Jian Dan found herself covered in mud after being chased by Han Yansheng. Angrily, she demanded to know who he was to dictate her friendships at the mixer. Han Yansheng, with certainty, declared she was his girlfriend and therefore it was his business. He then pointed to the necklace around her neck, asking why she would deny their relationship after accepting a token of love. Jian Dan finally understood the necklace was always meant for her and smiled shyly.
Noticing the mud on her, Han Yansheng removed his jacket and tied it around her waist, playfully chiding her for falling despite being a grown adult. They walked hand-in-hand, drawing curious glances. Upon arriving at the Swimming Club, Han Yansheng publicly announced his relationship with Jian Dan to the members, who cheered enthusiastically. Nearby, Gu Entong looked visibly disheartened by the news. Back at the dorm, Mi Fen, having heard the news from Yuan Sen, excitedly congratulated Jian Dan.
Jiang Zhishan, entering the room, teased Jian Dan about dating being tiring, but both friends were genuinely happy for her. The next morning, Jian Dan prepared for class, having washed Han Yansheng's shirt, as he had promised to save her a seat. Inspired by Mi Fen doing her makeup, Jian Dan asked for help with her eyebrows. Mi Fen expertly drew one before rushing off to meet Yuan Sen for a movie.
Jian Dan confidently decided to draw the other eyebrow herself. When she arrived late to class, she ignored Han Yansheng, leaving him confused as to how he had upset her. He started passing her notes, but one, proclaiming "You're really cute when you're angry," accidentally landed at Professor Wang's feet. The professor picked it up and read it aloud, causing the whole class to erupt in laughter.
Later, Gu Entong went to the Swimming Club alone and was found floating motionless in the pool by a cleaning staff member. Students quickly pulled her out, and an ambulance was called. At the hospital, Gu Entong awoke to find Han Yansheng, Shi, and Monkey by her bedside. She asked for her medicine, and Han Yansheng was shocked to discover it was an antidepressant, realizing she had been suffering from depression.
Gu Entong confessed to Han Yansheng that she had never overcome the trauma of Nan Yuan's accident, regularly dreaming of him blaming her for saving only Han Yansheng. Deeply pained and blaming himself, Han Yansheng decided to stay with her, canceling his library plans with Jian Dan. Upon hearing the news, Jiang Zhishan voiced her suspicion, questioning the convenient timing of Gu Entong's episode right after Han Yansheng and Jian Dan announced their relationship.
Concerned, Shi and Han Yansheng discussed finding an expert for Gu Entong. However, Gu Entong insisted she was fine and demanded to be discharged. Han Yansheng acquiesced and arranged her discharge. Meanwhile, Jian Dan found her roommate Yue Tangtang suffering from severe stomach pain, but Yue Tangtang refused to go to the hospital. Jian Dan then went to the Rock Climbing Club to train with Jiang Zhishan.
Afterward, as they were leaving, they saw Han Yansheng escorting Gu Entong to the Swimming Club. From a distance, Gu Entong immediately feigned weakness, leaning heavily on Han Yansheng for support upon seeing Jian Dan.
Episode 19 Recap
At the Swimming Club, Gu Entong complained to Han Yansheng that she felt unwell, experiencing sudden dizziness and temporary vision loss. She asked him to take her to the rest room, but once there, she insisted she would be fine after taking her pills and asked him to leave. Unbeknownst to her, Yue Tangtang was also at the Swimming Club to drop off documents.
From a window, Yue Tangtang observed Gu Entong secretly replacing the pills in her medicine bottle with Vitamin C tablets. Later that night, Yue Tangtang experienced severe abdominal pain. Jian Dan, Mi Fen, and Jiang Zhishan rushed her to the hospital, where a doctor diagnosed her with appendicitis requiring minor surgery. After the procedure, Jian Dan volunteered to stay with Yue Tangtang overnight, sending her friends home as they had class the next day.
The next morning, Yue Tangtang woke to find Jian Dan by her side. Although touched, she stubbornly declared she wouldn't thank her. Jian Dan replied that she expected no thanks, believing Yue Tangtang would have done the same for her. Yue Tangtang then asked Jian Dan to buy her some Vitamin C. Soon after, Han Yansheng called Jian Dan, concerned about her absence from the rock climbing club. Misunderstanding that Jian Dan was ill, he rushed to the hospital.
Relieved to find her fine, he playfully chided her for not letting him finish speaking. When he asserted his role as a "qualified boyfriend," Jian Dan retorted that he was hardly qualified, given how infrequently they saw each other. Han Yansheng offered to take her out, but their plans were interrupted. In her room, Yue Tangtang took her Vitamin C and remarked on how similar different pills looked, sparking an idea in Jian Dan's mind.
Meanwhile, Shi, having been asked by Han Yansheng to find an expert for Gu Entong, learned from Professor Wilson that a psychological evaluation report was needed. However, Gu Entong claimed to have lost the report and refused to get a new one, insisting she felt better. This was suspicious, as her official depression test results had already come back normal.
Frustrated by Gu Entong constantly monopolizing Han Yansheng's time, Jian Dan decided to accompany Han Yansheng when Gu Entong requested his presence at the beach. There, Gu Entong asked Jian Dan to take photos of her and Han Yansheng. Jian Dan deliberately took only individual shots, refusing to capture them together. Instead, she made affectionate gestures with Han Yansheng, prompting Gu Entong to take a photo of them.
Feeling awkward, Han Yansheng called Shi to join them before making a quick escape with Jian Dan. Later, Jian Dan saw Gu Entong taking her pills and definitively recognized them as Vitamin C tablets. She immediately told Jiang Zhishan, who devised a plan to expose the deception. Following their plan, Jiang Zhishan invited Gu Entong to a café.
Jiang Zhishan then engineered a distraction, sending Gu Entong to check on their coffee order, and quickly retrieved the medicine bottle from Gu Entong’s bag, confirming it contained Vitamin C. To prevent Gu Entong from fabricating an excuse, Jiang Zhishan insisted they wait for Han Yansheng’s arrival before confronting her. When Han Yansheng arrived, they accused Gu Entong of faking her illness. Gu Entong, appearing distressed, accused them of framing her.
Jiang Zhishan snatched the bag and produced the bottle, asking Han Yansheng to verify its contents. To their shock, Han Yansheng confirmed the pills were genuine antidepressants. As Gu Entong became more distraught, Han Yansheng comforted her, leaving Jian Dan and Jiang Zhishan bewildered. Later, Jian Dan asked Han Yansheng if he believed her. He reassured her, saying he unconditionally trusted his girlfriend. Meanwhile, Shi confronted Gu Entong, urging her to stop her deceit.
He revealed that he knew she was faking her depression to win back Han Yansheng and confessed to switching her medicine bottle at the café. Having overheard Jian Dan and Jiang Zhishan's conversation, he had orchestrated a barista spilling coffee on Gu Entong's bag, using the moment to swap her Vitamin C with genuine antidepressants to protect her from being exposed. He pleaded with her to confess the truth to Han Yansheng herself.
Unaware of Shi's intervention, Han Yansheng contacted Gu Entong's father, Mr. Gu, to discuss her "illness." Taking the matter seriously, Mr. Gu arranged for Gu Entong to take a leave of absence and see a top international psychologist arranged by Han Yansheng's father. When he informed Gu Entong over the phone, she panicked, insisting she couldn't leave Han Yansheng. Pressed by her father about her illness, she blurted out that it was all fake and she wasn't sick.
As she desperately tried to explain, she offered to send her psychological evaluation report as proof. At that moment, Han Yansheng, Jian Dan, and Jiang Zhishan appeared behind her, having overheard her entire confession.
Episode 20 Recap
As Gu Entong was speaking to her father on the phone, Han Yansheng, Jian Dan, and Jiang Zhishan overheard her. Her lie about suffering from depression was exposed. Gu Entong tried to explain, insisting her love for Han Yansheng was genuine.
However, Jiang Zhishan confronted her, reminding her how she had always driven away any girl who got close to Han Yansheng since childhood, and that Jian Dan was no exception, revealing that Gu Entong was the one who sent the video to Jian Dan. Han Yansheng asked if this was true. Gu Entong admitted it, claiming she acted out of intense affection for him. Han Yansheng then clearly stated that he was in love with Jian Dan.
Gu Entong brought up Nan Yuan, asserting that their shared past meant she understood Han Yansheng best and they were the most suitable couple. Jian Dan stepped forward, telling Gu Entong that repeatedly using Nan Yuan to hurt Han Yansheng was not an act of love. She firmly declared that Han Yansheng was now her boyfriend and warned Gu Entong that she would not be polite if Gu Entong continued to hurt him.
Afterwards, Jian Dan, Han Yansheng, and Jiang Zhishan walked away. Feeling too ashamed to remain at school, Gu Entong fabricated a story about attending a music exchange program at another university and temporarily left Ocean University. As she departed in a taxi, Shi arrived with a cup of coffee he had specially prepared for her. Gu Entong hugged him, expressing her gratitude for his silent support during her most vulnerable moments.
Shi reassured her that everything would eventually pass and promised to wait for her return. Meanwhile, Jian Dan, a psychology major, was determined to help Han Yansheng overcome his PTSD. She consulted her professor, who explained that treatment for PTSD varies greatly depending on the individual and requires long-term observation to determine the most effective approach. The professor recommended several books for Jian Dan to study.
Later, Jian Dan’s friends, commenting on her extensive reading, also shared news of Gu Entong’s departure, suspecting she was simply avoiding embarrassment after her lies were exposed. Jian Dan then gathered her friends, including Monkey and Yuan Sen, to discuss strategies for helping Han Yansheng, emphasizing his own desire to heal.
She explained from her studies that guiding a patient to confront their psychological barrier is a valid treatment method, but clarified it wasn't about directly recreating the traumatic scene, but rather a gradual, step-by-step approach. Monkey enthusiastically volunteered to devise a plan. Monkey's first attempt involved luring Han Yansheng to the girls' dormitory, claiming Jian Dan wanted to see him but couldn't come down. Han Yansheng, however, grew impatient and tried to leave, prompting Monkey to physically restrain him.
As planned, Jiang Zhishan poured a basin of water from a window, but she accidentally drenched Monkey instead, rendering the plan a comical failure. Monkey, soaking wet, chastised Jiang Zhishan, who retorted that he had been standing too close to Han Yansheng. Jian Dan intervened, ending the argument and admitting the plan was rushed, but Monkey insisted his next idea would surely work.
For the second attempt, they went to a city fountain, intending for Han Yansheng to be caught in its midday activation. However, as noon approached, Han Yansheng spontaneously decided to buy Jian Dan a milk tea. Panicking that he would leave the designated spot, Jian Dan rushed over and passionately kissed him. Han Yansheng responded with an equally fervent embrace, completely oblivious when the fountain activated on schedule, soaking him.
Later, Han Yansheng confronted Monkey about his "lame idea," but also clarified that his issue was not a general fear of water, but rather an inability to enter the water to swim. He pointed out that if he were truly afraid of water, he wouldn't even shower. While the friends acknowledged the plan's limited effect on his specific phobia, Han Yansheng appreciated their good intentions, assuring them he wasn't angry.
Jian Dan then announced they would move on to the next plan. After discussing Monkey's consistently unreliable schemes, Jian Dan suggested they try another approach by going to a hot spring. Han Yansheng was hesitant to enter the water. Monkey, attempting to provoke a reaction, dramatically pretended to drown in the shallow 0. 9-meter deep water, but Han Yansheng simply observed him, having noticed the "water depth 0. 9m" sign.
Monkey complained about Han Yansheng's heartlessness, who jokingly retorted that if Monkey's brain was already waterlogged, drowning was his own fault. Jian Dan then had an idea: she covertly dropped the special necklace Han Yansheng had given her into the water and discreetly stepped on it. Mi Fen, in on the new plan, loudly exclaimed that Jian Dan’s necklace was missing.
Seeing Jian Dan's distressed reaction, Han Yansheng immediately jumped into the water to help search for it, knowing its profound meaning to them both. As he searched, Jian Dan released the necklace. Han Yansheng quickly found it, carefully dried it, and lovingly placed it back around Jian Dan's neck. Seeing him finally enter the water, Jian Dan expressed her happiness, saying she knew he could do it.
Han Yansheng, realizing their deception, jokingly asked how she planned to apologize for lying, to which Jian Dan playfully replied that it wasn't solely her idea. Their success in the hot spring emboldened them to continue. At a restaurant, Jian Dan presented Han Yansheng with a breath-holding challenge, explaining the restaurant record was 4 minutes and 3 seconds, and Monkey had boasted that Han Yansheng could hold his breath for 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
Monkey encouraged Han Yansheng, promising a lobster dinner if he broke the record. Jian Dan added that they would all support him. Han Yansheng accepted the challenge and successfully broke the record. Everyone celebrated, excitedly picking out a lobster. However, Monkey got his hand painfully pinched by one. As the restaurant owner tried to help him, Monkey, in his panic, impulsively blurted out to Han Yansheng, "I. . . I like you!"
After his hand was freed, Han Yansheng jokingly told Monkey not to say such things again, calling it scarier than the lobster and teasing that he deserved to be pinched harder. Jian Dan observed Han Yansheng’s positive state and expressed confidence in helping him overcome his remaining psychological barriers. That evening, Han Yansheng texted Jian Dan, asking her to accompany him to a special place, and she agreed.
Han Yansheng took Jian Dan to Nan Yuan's parents' home, a place he hadn't visited since Nan Yuan’s accident. Nan Yuan's mother greeted him warmly, delighted to meet Jian Dan. A delivery of yellow roses arrived, which Nan Yuan's mother initially attributed to Han Yansheng, but he clarified he hadn't sent them, speculating they were from another of Nan Yuan's friends.
Nan Yuan's mother wistfully remarked that if Nan Yuan were still alive, he might have brought his own girlfriend home. Han Yansheng apologized, blaming himself for Nan Yuan’s accident. Nan Yuan’s mother gently reassured him that they had never blamed him, that it was an accident, and that they had moved on with their lives. She urged Han Yansheng to do the same, believing Nan Yuan wouldn't want him to carry such guilt.
Nan Yuan’s father then joined them, explaining that he and Nan Yuan's mother were moving abroad in a few days. He shared that they had planned to move after Nan Yuan started college but now felt there was nothing tying them to China. Han Yansheng and Jian Dan offered to help with the packing. While packing, Han Yansheng found a watch, a gift he had given Nan Yuan for his 18th birthday that symbolized their eternal friendship.
He recounted their childhood in the high school swimming club, training and competing together. He then shared a painful memory of a city swim meet selection where butterfly was his weakest stroke. Nan Yuan had promised to help him train. Later, Han Yansheng overheard that Nan Yuan, the team captain, had not made the cut. He soon learned from their coach that Nan Yuan had suffered a hip joint injury while training.
Nan Yuan had requested the coach keep his injury a secret from Han Yansheng to allow him to focus on the competition. Realizing Nan Yuan had been injured because of him, Han Yansheng wanted to withdraw, but Nan Yuan refused, reminding Han Yansheng of their promise to win a championship together and urging him to bring home the trophy for the team. Han Yansheng ultimately competed and won.
Jian Dan then noticed a photo of Han Yansheng and Nan Yuan in front of a "Time Post Office" in a small French town. Han Yansheng explained that at this unique post office, people write messages for their future selves. He and Nan Yuan had each written a postcard to be sent a year later. Han Yansheng's was lost, and he wondered if Nan Yuan had ever received his.
Nan Yuan’s father then retrieved Nan Yuan's postcard, which revealed his wish: to become a water rescue volunteer. Inspired by this, Han Yansheng declared to Nan Yuan’s mother that he would take the water rescue volunteer exam to fulfill Nan Yuan’s dream. Nan Yuan’s mother was deeply moved and expressed her joy. Later, Han Yansheng and Jian Dan checked the exam results, confirming they both passed. Jian Dan explained she wanted to help him realize Nan Yuan's wish.
She informed him that the annual water rescue volunteer selection was held at Ocean University's swimming pool, which was an advantage. She noted that swimming and the theoretical exam were manageable, but the practical exam—focusing on on-site rescue, land-based extraction, and especially CPR—would be the most challenging. Having learned CPR in high school, Jian Dan offered to teach Han Yansheng.
She meticulously demonstrated the steps: positioning the person, checking consciousness and breathing, clearing the airway, performing 30 chest compressions, and then giving rescue breaths. To practice, she lay down and acted as the drowning victim, guiding Han Yansheng on the correct hand placement for chest compressions as he practiced on her.
Episode 21 Recap
Jian Dan continued to support Han Yansheng as he prepared for the water rescue volunteer exam. She assisted him in practicing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and CPR, a moment that Monkey and his friends stumbled upon, leading them to playfully tease Jian Dan about her unexpected skills. The day of the volunteer selection competition arrived, but Han Yansheng hesitated, unable to enter the water. He ultimately missed the entire event, leaving him deeply dejected.
Jian Dan, witnessing his despair, worried greatly about him. She confided in Mi Fen that Han Yansheng's spirits were very low. To distract him, Mi Fen invited everyone to celebrate her and Yuan Sen's 199-day anniversary, explaining that "199" in Chinese sounds like "forever," symbolizing their wish for a long-lasting relationship. Although some found the idea unusual, Mi Fen insisted on the importance of small rituals in life.
The group gathered at a beautifully decorated beach, a romantic setting arranged by Mi Fen and Yuan Sen. Mi Fen announced that they had buried surprises in the sand for everyone to find. Monkey and Jiang Zhishan eagerly dug in the sand. Jiang Zhishan eventually unearthed a box containing a stone. Looking at it fondly, she told Monkey, "I like you." Monkey, surprised and disbelieving, pressed her to repeat it, but Jiang Zhishan, embarrassed, feigned drunkenness.
Monkey rushed to support her, but when he showed no further reaction, Jiang Zhishan, annoyed, immediately got up and walked away. Jian Dan and Han Yansheng were also digging for treasure. Jian Dan excused herself to the restroom, leaving Han Yansheng to continue alone. When she returned, she couldn't find him. Suddenly, shouts of "Someone's drowning!" echoed from the distance.
Spotting Han Yansheng's hat floating in the water, Jian Dan mistakenly believed he was in danger and bravely plunged into the sea, calling his name. Han Yansheng, who had just finished a phone call nearby, saw her and called out for her to return, but she couldn't hear him over the waves. Distraught, he jumped into the water to reach her, followed by Monkey and Yuan Sen who rushed to help.
Jian Dan finally heard their shouts, turned, saw Han Yansheng struggling in the water, and quickly swam back. Together, they awkwardly helped Han Yansheng to the shore. After a moment, he regained his composure, physically unharmed but inwardly crushed. He lamented how he, once a strong swimmer, now felt utterly useless. Determined to overcome his trauma, Han Yansheng sought professional help.
He visited a psychologist who recommended a psychological assessment, with results expected in a few days, advising him to relax as anxiety would only worsen his condition. Jian Dan invited him to attend her psychology class. During the class, the professor discussed post-traumatic stress disorder, presenting successful cases of recovery. This initially reassured Han Yansheng and Jian Dan.
However, when the professor mentioned a failed case involving a man who developed severe depression due to an unresolved fear of water from a childhood near-drowning incident, Han Yansheng's anxiety visibly spiked. Jian Dan, sensing his unease, quietly took his hand, reiterating her belief in his recovery. Meanwhile, Monkey couldn't stop thinking about Jiang Zhishan's "I like you." He wondered if it was genuine or just drunken rambling.
To find out, he went to the Rock Climbing Club to confront her. As he nervously deliberated, Jiang Zhishan noticed him mumbling. Before she could press him for answers, she received a phone call. Monkey followed her out and saw her interacting cheerfully and intimately with a foreign man named Jason. Convinced they were romantically involved, Monkey followed them to a restaurant. There, he saw Jason in an embrace with another woman, whom Monkey mistook for Jiang Zhishan.
Infuriated, he stormed over, pulled Jason away, and angrily declared Jiang Zhishan was his girlfriend, warning Jason to stay away. To his embarrassment, he quickly realized the woman was not Jiang Zhishan, and his misunderstanding made him even more reluctant to face her. Later, Jiang Zhishan revealed to Jian Dan that she had received an invitation to an international climbing competition and would be going abroad for special training.
She expressed concern for Han Yansheng's condition and asked Jian Dan to look after him during her absence. She hadn't yet told Monkey about her departure. Monkey, however, overheard the news and was heartbroken, believing Jiang Zhishan would not return. Tasked with buying supplies for her trip, he deliberately crushed all the instant noodles he purchased, hoping to deter her. Jiang Zhishan, upon discovering the mashed noodles, couldn't help but laugh.
On the day of her flight, Monkey rushed to the airport, searching frantically for her. He called her name and then dialed her phone, only for her to respond from right behind him, "I'm behind you."
Episode 22 Recap
Monkey frantically searched for Jiang Zhishan at the airport. When he called her, she revealed she was standing right behind him. He earnestly asked if she could reconsider leaving, but Jiang Zhishan explained that she had received an invitation to an international rock climbing competition and couldn't break her promise, clarifying that she wasn't leaving for good. She also mentioned that Jason, whom Monkey had previously met, was the coach she had hired for the competition.
Monkey, relieved, then nervously presented her with a deck of playing cards featuring himself in women's attire, which he had secretly worked overtime to photograph and create. He stated that she was now in charge of the cards, and since she had been in charge of him for a while, he was entrusting both the cards and himself to her.
Jiang Zhishan, deeply touched by his trust, made him promise not to back out, to which he firmly agreed before they shared an emotional embrace. Han Yansheng remained withdrawn, causing Jian Dan considerable worry. She decided to record her thoughts and feelings, wondering how she could help him.
She watched the movie "Good Will Hunting," a film about psychology, noting that its main character, a traumatized boy who eventually heals with the help of loved ones, reminded her of Han Yansheng's situation. She recorded a message suggesting he watch the movie, hoping it would help him regain his confidence. Her friend, Mi Fen, encouraged her dedication, assuring her that Han Yansheng would recover. Han Yansheng later went to the hospital to get his previous check-up results.
The doctor informed him that his psychological evaluation results were not ideal, though he reassured Han Yansheng not to be too disheartened as many successful recovery cases existed, emphasizing the need for gradual treatment without excessive stress. Feeling discouraged, Han Yansheng did not watch the movie Jian Dan had recommended, which in turn made Jian Dan feel disheartened. Su Lishi went to pick up Gu Entong, who had returned.
Gu Entong brought gifts for everyone, including Monkey, who received a useful item, and Su Lishi, who received a coffee mug tailored to his liking. Su Lishi expressed his affection, stating he would love anything from her, which prompted Monkey to playfully question if they were secretly dating. Gu Entong quickly dismissed his suggestion and announced she was heading to the Rock Climbing Club. Distressed by Han Yansheng's condition, Jian Dan went to the seaside with her voice recorder.
She spoke into it, expressing her frustration that Han Yansheng hadn't watched "Good Will Hunting," a movie she hoped would encourage him, and questioned whether she should stop pushing him. She wondered if she should give up trying to help him heal. Gu Entong then approached her, asking if she had seen Han Yansheng, as she needed to give him her resignation letter from her role as Swimming Club manager.
Gu Entong explained that she had decided to step down to dedicate more time to her studies. She then sincerely apologized to Jian Dan for her past wrongdoings and the misunderstandings she had caused between Jian Dan and Han Yansheng. Gu Entong expressed her hope that Jian Dan would help Han Yansheng overcome the trauma related to Nan Yuan, which would alleviate some of her own guilt. Jian Dan assured her she would help.
After Gu Entong left, Jian Dan, feeling a little better, recorded another thought, pondering whether to abandon her efforts, realizing she wouldn't care if Han Yansheng swam or not, as long as he was happy. She noted that Gu Entong seemed to have changed significantly since her return. Jiang Zhishan returned to school after her competition, welcomed warmly by Jian Dan and Mi Fen, to whom she distributed gifts.
Upon hearing that Gu Entong was back, Jiang Zhishan immediately cautioned Jian Dan to be wary of her, suggesting that "old habits die hard" and fearing Gu Entong might cause trouble again. Jian Dan, however, mentioned that Gu Entong seemed noticeably different this time. Jiang Zhishan then asked about Han Yansheng, and Jian Dan confessed that he wasn't doing well and seemed to be resisting treatment. Jiang Zhishan encouraged her to take it slowly, confident he would recover.
The next morning, Jian Dan prepared breakfast for Han Yansheng. Monkey told her that Han Yansheng was in the music room but also subtly hinted that Han Yansheng preferred to train on an empty stomach. When Jian Dan arrived at the music room, she found only Gu Entong and Han Yansheng there, with Gu Entong playing the piano for him. Feeling disappointed, Jian Dan turned and left without being noticed.
Inside, Gu Entong explained that she had learned about music therapy from a master at a recent music exchange and had selected the current piece specifically for Han Yansheng, hoping it would help with his insomnia. Han Yansheng acknowledged the music's calming effect but stated it had limited impact on his unique condition. Gu Entong, attributing the limited effect to her own playing, then suggested they attend the master's upcoming solo concert that weekend as a change of scenery.
Noticing Han Yansheng's hesitation, she proactively suggested that Jian Dan and Shi also join them, making it a group of four. Han Yansheng later confronted Jian Dan about the breakfast she had brought to the music room. Jian Dan, still feeling hurt, accused him of ignoring her and joked that he was already "full" from listening to music with Gu Entong, not wanting to interrupt their "romantic scene."
Han Yansheng quickly clarified that Shi had also been present, explaining that he and Gu Entong were exploring music therapy to help his condition. Although Jian Dan initially dismissed his explanation, her mood visibly brightened. Han Yansheng then presented her with a dress, explaining that it was for the upcoming concert that Gu Entong had invited all four of them – himself, Jian Dan, Shi, and Gu Entong – to attend that weekend.
Jian Dan, no longer upset, happily made an excuse to rush back to her dorm. At the concert, while waiting for Shi, Jian Dan noticed Gu Entong's hair clip was broken and generously offered her own to Gu Entong. Inside, Jian Dan actively engaged with the music, even explaining its nuances to Han Yansheng, expressing her commitment to understanding music therapy for his sake. Later, Han Yansheng and Jian Dan departed the concert together.
Afterward, at the Rock Climbing Club, as Jian Dan was preparing to leave with friends for dinner, Gu Entong arrived to return the hair clip. Jian Dan, preoccupied with grabbing her phone, placed the hair clip along with her voice recorder on a nearby table. She then left with Gu Entong and Jiang Zhishan. However, upon returning later, Jian Dan realized her voice recorder was missing.
Back at the Swimming Club, as Han Yansheng was getting ready for afternoon training, he unexpectedly found Jian Dan's voice recorder in a drawer. Playing it, he heard Jian Dan's voice expressing deep despair: "The condition is getting worse. It might never get better. I feel more lost and helpless than ever. Maybe I should give up. I should tell him I don't love him and break up with him." Han Yansheng's face darkened with anger and hurt.
He immediately confronted Jian Dan, who was surprised to see her lost recorder. He played the incriminating segment again, demanding if those were her words. When she confirmed it, he coldly stated that he understood how she felt, then threw the recorder at her and stormed off. Jian Dan, realizing he had only heard a part of her thoughts and misunderstood, desperately tried to explain, asking why he was so angry and if he hadn't heard the full context.
She tried to follow him, but he sternly told her to stop. Han Yansheng's anger led him to ban Jian Dan from the Swimming Club during training, even threatening Monkey with punishment for allowing her in. Jian Dan expressed her frustration to Monkey, lamenting that Han Yansheng was avoiding her and refusing to talk. Monkey, along with Mi Fen, Shi, and Yuan Sen, convened to brainstorm a solution.
Jian Dan explained that the misunderstanding arose because Han Yansheng had only heard a fragmented part of her voice recording about his condition, which was now broken and needed time to be fixed. While her friends considered extreme measures, a new plan was devised. Monkey called Han Yansheng, fabricating a story about Yuan Sen needing his help to plan a surprise for Mi Fen's 214-day anniversary, urging him to come to the Swimming Club.
Simultaneously, Jian Dan's friends ushered her into the club, encouraging her to use this opportunity to talk to Han Yansheng. As Jian Dan entered, she overheard Dr. Li Meng's voice, detailing the grim prognosis for PTSD if one lacks willpower. The doctor emphasized the need to overcome mental barriers and "let go of oneself," warning that desensitization therapy could otherwise lead to anxiety, irritability, depression, and in extreme cases, self-harm or suicidal thoughts.
Episode 23 Recap
With the help of her friends, Jian Dan arranged to meet Han Yansheng at the swimming pool, hoping to explain everything in person. However, Han Yansheng gave her no such chance. He coldly stated that he did not want to hear her out, adding that she now knew the kind of person he was, and then declared that they should break up.
When Jian Dan asked him to repeat it, he simply said she had heard him clearly before turning and walking away. Heartbroken, Jian Dan crouched on the ground, crying. Mi Fen wanted to intervene, but Jiang Zhishan advised that relationships are between two people and they should give Han Yansheng and Jian Dan some space to resolve things themselves. That evening, Han Yansheng sat alone on the sports field, drinking beer.
Jiang Zhishan joined him, bringing more alcohol, saying she was worried he might not have enough and wanted to keep him company. She noted that he was in a bad mood and suggested they drink and talk, or at least just drink, to drown his sorrows. She tried to encourage him by saying that a breakup was not the end of the world.
Jiang Zhishan hoped that once he was drunk, he would reveal why he had broken up with Jian Dan. However, Han Yansheng remained completely silent, even after drinking a lot. Realizing it was pointless to question him, Jiang Zhishan decided to go check on Jian Dan instead. Meanwhile, Gu Entong passed by and saw Han Yansheng heavily intoxicated.
She asked if he could hear her and then carefully helped him up, guiding him back to the boys' dorm to hand him over to Shi. Jian Dan, who had unknowingly wandered near the dorms, saw Gu Entong assisting a dazed Han Yansheng and immediately turned and ran. Han Yansheng then met Monkey, informing him that he was going to Xiuchuan City for math competition training and would be away for a while.
He told Monkey that he had left the Swimming Club's stamp in the drawer and entrusted the club's responsibility to him. Monkey asked about Jian Dan, but Han Yansheng dismissed the question, saying there was no need for Monkey to see him off. Monkey immediately called Jian Dan, telling her that Han Yansheng had left for the training and had probably just gotten on the bus. Jian Dan felt helpless and unsure how to channel her frustration.
After class, she intensely pursued rock climbing as a way to vent her emotions. Mi Fen was concerned for her, but Jiang Zhishan explained that this was Jian Dan's way of releasing her feelings. Later, during a meal, Jian Dan and her friends overheard some girls at a nearby table gossiping. They claimed that the rumors on the school forum were true, that Han Yansheng had dumped Jian Dan, and that they never thought the couple was a good match.
Enraged, Jiang Zhishan and Mi Fen angrily told them off, accusing them of spreading rumors. Disturbed by the comments, Jian Dan lost her appetite and decided to leave, telling her friends to continue eating without her. Jiang Zhishan then arranged for Jian Dan's food to be packed up. When Jian Dan fell ill, complaining of a headache, Jiang Zhishan checked on her and realized she was not running a fever but was simply exhausted from overtraining.
Jian Dan had no appetite, prompting Jiang Zhishan to call Han Yansheng despite Jian Dan's protests. Jiang Zhishan informed him that Jian Dan was sick and refusing to eat, asking if he wanted to speak to her. Han Yansheng coldly replied that her condition was none of his concern and that he was busy, then abruptly hung up. Shortly after, Han Yansheng called the Nanshan Restaurant to place an order.
Later, Jian Dan received a call announcing she had "won" a free bowl of special porridge from Nanshan Restaurant, which was already being delivered. She suspected it was Han Yansheng's subtle way of showing care, and her mood lifted slightly. After eating, she went to the beach, buried the necklace Han Yansheng had given her in the sand, and silently bid farewell to their relationship.
Suddenly, Shi called Jian Dan, telling her to come to the cafe immediately because he had repaired the voice recorder and it was important. Jian Dan rushed over. Shi had her listen to the recording, which contained her own voice saying, "Han Yansheng's condition is getting worse. It might never get better. I feel more lost and helpless than ever. Maybe I should give up. I should tell him I don't love him and break up with him."
Jian Dan immediately recognized her voice but realized the recording had been cleverly edited. Shi confirmed that although the edits were subtle, professional software could identify it as not the original, but he could not recover the full original recording. Jian Dan then understood why Han Yansheng had been so angry and revealed that she had the original recording on her computer, which she promptly sent to him.
After listening to the original recording, Han Yansheng realized he had misunderstood Jian Dan. However, still lacking confidence in his own physical condition and not wanting to burden her, he decided not to call her to reconcile. Jian Dan anxiously waited for his call, constantly checking her phone. She called him several times, but he remained unreachable.
She also asked Shi to inquire if Han Yansheng had read her email with the original recording, to which Han Yansheng replied with a brief text message confirming he had read it. Jian Dan was disheartened, lamenting that she thought he would stop ignoring her after hearing the recording. Shi tried to comfort her, suggesting she wait for Han Yansheng to return and speak to him face-to-face, but Jian Dan felt it was futile.
Later, while Jiang Zhishan was in the Swimming Club office, she received a call from Monkey, who was frantically searching for the club stamp in the dorm. Monkey mentioned Han Yansheng had said it was in a drawer before he left, but he couldn't find it. Jiang Zhishan suggested checking the office drawer. Searching the drawer, she found the stamp and also discovered Han Yansheng's medical report, a "HADS Psychological Assessment Form."
Shocked by what she read, Jiang Zhishan immediately called Jian Dan, urging her to come to the office. Upon seeing the medical report, Jian Dan finally understood the true reason for Han Yansheng's recent melancholy. She deeply regretted her carelessness in not noticing his struggles and the fact that he had undergone medical examinations secretly. Overwhelmed with regret, Jian Dan rushed back to the beach, desperately searching for the necklace she had buried earlier.
Despite her frantic efforts, she couldn't find it. Just as she was overcome with despair, a small girl playing nearby approached her, holding the necklace, and asked if she was looking for it. Jian Dan gratefully took it, tears welling up in her eyes, as the girl advised her not to carelessly discard things, no matter how sad she might be. Filled with determination, Jian Dan went to Jiang Zhishan's kitchen and prepared many delicious dishes.
She then took a bus to the school where Han Yansheng was undergoing training. Unable to get past the guard, who cited school rules against unauthorized entry even for a surprise birthday visit, Jian Dan found a way to sneak into the building. She located the classroom where Han Yansheng was taking an exam. Stepping onto a stool, she drew a mathematical summation symbol on the glass window. The invigilator noticed her, and she quickly fled.
Han Yansheng, seeing the symbol, instantly recognized it as Jian Dan's work. He hastily completed his exam and rushed out to find her. Hearing her call his name from behind him, Han Yansheng turned, and their eyes met.
Episode 24 (Ending) Recap
Upon learning that Jian Dan had come to find him, Han Yansheng eagerly rushed out of his classroom to search for her. After looking around and failing to spot her, he felt a pang of disappointment. Just then, Jian Dan's voice called out from behind him. He turned to see her standing there, holding a cake box. Overjoyed, he hurried towards her.
With a warm smile, Jian Dan told him she had read his psychological assessment report and understood he had deliberately distanced himself because he feared being a burden. She reassured him, saying they still had many treatment options to explore, and even if he couldn't overcome his fear of water, it was acceptable because she could swim and would always protect him.
She also mentioned listening to the voice recording he had sent her, emphasizing that the past was behind them and he should no longer hide anything from her. Han Yansheng acknowledged that she knew everything. Jian Dan then presented him with a birthday cake she had made in Jiang Zhishan's kitchen, apologizing for it being slightly damaged. Despite its appearance, Han Yansheng assured her he loved it. Jian Dan then leaned in and kissed him, revealing her "second gift."
Han Yansheng pulled her closer and kissed her back passionately. After reconciling, Jian Dan and Han Yansheng joined their friends for a celebratory meal. Monkey lightened the mood, joking that their dorm no longer needed air conditioning now that Han Yansheng and Jian Dan had made up, as Han Yansheng’s cold demeanor had been like a human freezer.
Jiang Zhishan expressed her anger, wondering who had maliciously tampered with the recorder on Han Yansheng’s desk to cause a fight between them, and Gu Entong agreed that it was despicable. Jian Dan, however, suggested they move past the unpleasant topic and asked to see Gu Entong’s phone. Gu Entong handed it over without hesitation. Jian Dan noticed paint on the phone but subtly declared the matter closed, offering to pay for the meal to thank everyone for their help.
Gu Entong then excused herself to the restroom, followed shortly by Jian Dan. In the restroom, Jian Dan confronted Gu Entong directly, stating she knew Gu Entong had taken the recorder. Gu Entong initially feigned ignorance and surprise, claiming she had long given up on Han Yansheng and had no reason to cause trouble.
However, Jian Dan revealed her evidence, explaining that the paint on Gu Entong’s phone perfectly matched the paint on the climbing wall in the Rock Climbing Club. Seeing her deception exposed, Gu Entong became distraught and confessed, defiantly asking what Jian Dan could do. She argued that she had known Han Yansheng since childhood and grown up with him, and Jian Dan’s appearance had unfairly stolen him away.
Han Yansheng, who had overheard, walked over and firmly told Gu Entong that even without Jian Dan, he would never have liked her, as he had always considered her only a friend. After Han Yansheng and Jian Dan departed, Gu Entong was left alone and distraught. Shi then approached her, his voice heavy with sadness. He told her that her repeated acts of harming others had changed her from the person he once knew.
Gu Entong, desperate, pleaded that she only acted out of fear of losing Han Yansheng. Shi continued, explaining that her recent closeness to him, which everyone had misinterpreted as a reconciliation, was merely a tactic to conceal her true intentions. He expressed his disappointment that after all her wrongdoings, she still showed no remorse, and asked what she had gained from her actions.
Gu Entong, tearfully admitting her mistakes, begged him not to leave her, emphasizing that he was the only one she had left. However, Shi gently pulled his hand away and left without a word. Later, Shi sent a message to his friends, informing them that he had already departed for a volunteer teacher program and requested that they not see him off, as he wished to avoid an emotional farewell.
Gu Entong, filled with profound regret, later visited the coffee shop where Shi once worked, reflecting on his sincere devotion. As Gu Entong prepared to move abroad, she met with Han Yansheng to make a confession she felt she had to reveal before they might never see each other again. She admitted that she bore significant responsibility for Nan Yuan's death, revealing a painful secret she had kept for too long.
She recounted that on the day of the incident, when she went to pick up three oxygen tanks, she inadvertently selected two that were marked "To Be Repaired" and defective. One of these was given to Han Yansheng, and the other to Nan Yuan. She expressed deep remorse for keeping this secret and selfishly allowing him to shoulder the blame, apologizing to Han Yansheng.
She also confirmed that she was the one who had left yellow roses on Nan Yuan's death anniversary, finally feeling a sense of release after revealing the truth. Han Yansheng listened, then stated that it was pointless to assign blame after so much time had passed, urging them to look forward. He felt Nan Yuan wouldn't want to see them dwelling in sadness. Inspired by this revelation, Han Yansheng resolved to pick himself up and fulfill Nan Yuan’s dream.
With Jian Dan’s unwavering support, Han Yansheng successfully completed the rigorous assessment and earned his certificate for the water rescue volunteer team. He then visited Nan Yuan's memorial, placing the certificate before it, declaring that he had fulfilled Nan Yuan's long-held dream and hoped he had no more regrets.
Jian Dan also spoke to Nan Yuan, introducing herself as Han Yansheng's girlfriend and assuring Nan Yuan that Han Yansheng had worked incredibly hard to achieve his dream, and that she would continue to be there for him. Han Yansheng and Monkey, along with their classmates, were graduating. Jian Dan and Mi Fen arrived to attend the graduation ceremony.
Mi Fen helped Jian Dan with her makeup, with Jian Dan jokingly expressing nerves about her eyebrows, recalling a past makeup mishap. Rushing to enter the auditorium, they were briefly stopped by a guard because they weren't wearing graduation gowns. They explained their boyfriends were inside, and soon Monkey and Yuan Sen arrived to vouch for them, allowing them to enter. Inside, Han Yansheng, as the valedictorian, was delivering his speech.
He began by expressing heartfelt gratitude to their teachers for their guidance and dedication over the past four years, calling university the best time of his life. He then turned his attention to Jian Dan, publicly confessing his love for her. He spoke about how meeting her transcended his love for mathematics, making her the most beautiful thing in his life.
He recalled their shared experiences, from arguments to fireworks and volunteer work, and thanked her for supporting him through his darkest moments. He likened her to a mirror that showed him his flaws and to sunlight that warmed his heart, praising her bravery that inspired him to become a better and more courageous version of himself. He concluded by declaring her his "Hypatia" and proclaiming his love for her. After the ceremony, the friends celebrated their graduation.
Monkey, impressed by Han Yansheng’s public declaration, joked about how to match it, while Mi Fen contentedly noted she had Yuan Sen. The couples, including Jiang Zhishan and Monkey, and Mi Fen and Yuan Sen, savored their last moments together, taking photos around campus and exchanging heartfelt gifts, with Mi Fen and Yuan Sen celebrating their 520-day anniversary. Jian Dan and Han Yansheng reflected on their journey, reminiscing about their initial "wrong foot" encounter and how their love had blossomed.
They promised to always stay together, no matter the challenges ahead. Jian Dan then asked Han Yansheng if he would have a summer break. He explained that a company he had previously interviewed with had contacted him, and he would be starting work soon. Jian Dan expressed disappointment, realizing that his grandmother’s invitation for them to visit Shenmu Village would have to be postponed. Summer arrived, and Jian Dan found herself bored at home.
One day, her grandmother asked her to catch some fish from the river, mentioning they would have guests. Jian Dan, noting it had been eleven days since she last saw Han Yansheng, asked who was coming, but her grandmother playfully told her it was a surprise. At the river, Jian Dan caught a koi and, making a wish, hoped to see Han Yansheng that very day.
Suddenly, she heard his voice calling her name from a boat in the middle of the river. Overjoyed and surprised, Jian Dan cried out his name. Eager to reach her, Han Yansheng immediately dove into the water.
