Concerned about the commotion caused by the frozen men at the docks, Lin Mo goes there intending to melt the ice herself. Jiuchen follows her and, initially misinterpreting her actions, asks if she means to save the culprits. Lin Mo clarifies that she is worried about him, warning that a powerful "Heavenly Teacher," said to be over two hundred years old, has been summoned to town.

Fearing Jiuchen, as a scholar with some magic, would be outmatched, she suggests they return to her hometown, expressing a longing for her parents and hoping her sister has changed. Jiuchen rejects the idea of leaving, but moved by her deep concern for his safety, he swiftly releases the two men from their icy prison. Xu Hai and his brother immediately prostrate themselves, begging for mercy and calling Jiuchen an "Immortal." Jiuchen ignores their pleas and escorts Lin Mo away.

Lin Mo finds herself increasingly drawn to Jiuchen, a feeling that brings both joy and a touch of anxiety. One morning, she approaches his door, hesitating to knock, caught between a desire to see him and a fear of the encounter. Unbeknownst to her, Jiuchen is aware of her presence and smiles to himself after she departs. Later, while Lin Mo is in the kitchen preparing breakfast, Jiuchen unexpectedly appears, gently teasing her about looking for him.

Flustered, she denies it but then invites him to her room. There, she proudly presents him with a new set of clothes she has personally sewn for him, eagerly urging him to try them on and checking the fit. Jiuchen puts on the attire, expressing his approval. Lin Mo, blushing, quickly clarifies that she meant the clothes she made look good. Feeling overwhelmed by their closeness, she makes a hasty excuse about the congee and rushes away.

To acquire a life-prolonging elixir for Baoqing, Jing Xiu bravely risks returning to the Shanling Tribe. He successfully retrieves the elixir from his palace. As he attempts to leave, he is discovered and confronted by a guard who expresses surprise at his survival and return. Jing Xiu confidently asserts his presence, warning the guard to step aside. Soon, Qinyuan arrives on the scene, confirming Jing Xiu's return.

While Jing Xiu manages to evade capture, his presence signals a brief, tense encounter before he escapes again. Lin Mo, ever practical, meticulously plans to improve their finances by raising chickens. She enthusiastically explains her calculations for selling eggs and using the income to buy an embroidery frame, through which she can earn more by making clothes and accessories. Jiuchen quietly asks if she genuinely enjoys her current life, to which she affirms.

His thoughts drift to a previous conversation with Qingyao, who had questioned his resolve to stay by Lingxi's side through her three trials, knowing she was destined to suffer pain, sadness, and even death. Snapping back to reality, Jiuchen dismisses Lin Mo's inquiry about his sudden solemnity and encourages her to pursue her chicken-raising venture.

Later, while browsing the market, Jiuchen attempts to buy a silk flower for Lin Mo, but she declines, humorously stating her preference for edible gifts like eggs and chicken legs. Lin Mo then mentions her upcoming birthday, fondly recalling the longevity noodles her grandmother prepared for her last year. Jiuchen's expression darkens as he remembers her limited lifespan. Concealing his distress, he asks what gift she desires.

Lin Mo, ever thrifty, simply asks him to cook her a bowl of longevity noodles, emphasizing their need to save money for their future chicks. Back home, Lin Mo crafts a chicken coop from straw in the courtyard, only for Xiaobai to settle inside, refusing to budge despite Lin Mo's coaxing. Jiuchen then simply calls out Xiaobai's name, and the dog immediately complies, startling Lin Mo with its obedience.

Jiuchen explains that it's because Lin Mo has too good a temper, so Xiaobai is "usually" not afraid of her. Lin Mo, puzzled by his use of "usually," is about to inquire further when Jiuchen deftly changes the subject, suggesting she bring out the potted flower left by Jing Xiu to sun. Lin Mo initially expresses doubt about the flower's need for sunlight, noting that Jing Xiu didn't say it needed sun.

Jiuchen dismisses her concern, questioning Jing Xiu's botanical knowledge, and Lin Mo agrees to retrieve the flower. In the evening, Lin Mo engrosses herself in medical texts while Jiuchen sits beside her. Noticing her deep concentration, he asks if she intends to become a doctor in the future. Lin Mo expresses her aspiration, believing it's a noble profession that allows her to both earn a living and help others.

Jiuchen then cautiously inquires what she would do if mishaps happen and her aspirations are not fulfilled. Lin Mo, misinterpreting his concern, asks if he dislikes women working or showing themselves in public. Jiuchen clarifies, explaining that life is unpredictable, and unexpected events can suddenly disrupt plans. Lin Mo, remembering the incident where the Emperor's son's illness nearly cost her life and forced her to leave home, optimistically muses that such misfortune surely won't befall her again.

Lin Mo then asks Jiuchen about his own future plans. He takes her hand, stating simply that he just wants to be with her. He then issues a profound warning, telling her that though the years may seem endless, there might come a day when she feels sad and unjust, and will hate and resent.

He urges her to remember not to be devoured by resentment, not to fall into confusion, and not to lose her sanity and do something she will regret. He pledges that no matter what happens or who she becomes, he will always be by her side, protecting her with his life. Startled by his intensity, Lin Mo feigns sleepiness and then realizes they are in her room, and he had followed her there.

Jiuchen calmly reassures her that he will protect her and she shouldn't be afraid. Yuan Tong, deeply engrossed in her cultivation of the Dark Immortal Reference, is abruptly drawn to Dark Capital Mountain, where she confronts the sealed Demon Lord. The Demon Lord, acknowledging her as Yuanzheng's sister and noting a past connection, attempts to tempt her, remarking on her demotion and offering her a place by his side.

Yuan Tong, however, scorns him as a "dog without an owner," sealed away and devoid of power. She defiantly states that she could kill him to gain merit and return to the Heavenly Palace. When the Demon Lord disrespectfully mentions Jiuchen, blaming him for a sneak attack, Yuan Tong fiercely defends Jiuchen's name. Enraged by her refusal, the Demon Lord threatens her, vowing that she will eventually regret her stubbornness and one day kneel before him, crying and begging.

The town is gripped by unease due to recent strange occurrences, leading residents to seek blessings from the Earth God. Aunt Guan, ever devout, procures two portraits of the deity and insists Lin Mo take one for protection. Unbeknownst to them, the local Earth God is none other than High Immortal Peng, who was demoted to the mortal realm and finds contentment in the simple, devout life of the townspeople. Meanwhile, Peng visits his friend Siming, who appears deeply troubled.

Siming confides that he intervened in Star Monarch Sangnan's arduous 50,000-year love trial by using an item belonging to Qingyao, hoping to hasten its conclusion. High Immortal Peng is aghast, worried about the ramifications if Sangnan were to discover the truth, knowing Yunfeng's temperament would make things difficult for Siming. Back in the mortal realm, Jiuchen observes the Earth God portrait that Lin Mo has brought home.

Lin Mo explains its supposed powers and persuades Jiuchen to join her in offering incense. As Jiuchen reluctantly complies, High Immortal Peng, still in the Heavenly Palace, suddenly coughs up blood, shocking Siming. Siming later tells Peng that he has enjoyed blessings that were not his and received auspicious fortunes he should not have, implying his misfortune is tied to Jiuchen's prayer.

Through a connection to Qingyao's wooden comb, Star Monarch Sangnan, in his mortal guise, begins to vividly recall his past life's love trial. He remembers their sacred marriage vows and his devotion to her. His weakened mortal body seeks out Qingyao's "Bai Yu Clinic" in the mortal realm, only to find it long abandoned. With his last hope extinguished, his earthly journey concludes.

His love trial, which spanned an astonishing fifty thousand years, finally comes to an end, and his true form, Star Monarch Sangnan, returns to the Heavenly Palace. It is revealed that Sangnan is a magical mulberry and elm tree from the southern Great Heavenly Forest, capable of manifesting countless mortal avatars while his true body lay dormant in Pixiang Hall for millennia. News of Sangnan Xingjun's return reaches Qingyao. Elsewhere, High God Yunfeng decides to formally propose to Qingyao.

He convenes Kaiyang, Hanzhang, Shisan, and Siming, seeking their advice for a memorable proposal. Siming, still preoccupied with his own anxieties concerning Sangnan, offers only vague endorsements. Yunfeng, emboldened, expresses his desire for a proposal that is novel, shocking, and unforgettable. Kaiyang suggests a blunt approach: directly confronting Qingyao and demanding to know if she dares marry him. Shisan proposes a solemn ceremony at the Spirit of the Brave Departed Hall, where Yunfeng could propose before his ancestors. Overwhelmed by these outlandish ideas, Yunfeng dismisses Shisan and teases that her "good ideas should be saved for when Siming proposes," which Siming swiftly denies.
