Shu Jingrong, accompanied by Jia Ruo, arrived at Xiao Yiqing's temporary dwelling, only to find it deserted, confirming his departure. Her heart was heavy with guilt, knowing that Xiao Yiqing's long-standing aspiration to conquer the Moon Sect and rescue his mother, Xue Wen, had been thwarted because of her. She lamented that he had sacrificed much of his inner energy for her, only to receive the devastating news that Xue Wen had died by Lady Jing's sword.
She realized how heartbroken he must be and regretted not being able to save Xue Wen for him, recalling her earlier plea to him to spare her Elder Brother, Qing Lan, so they could live a peaceful life away from conflict. Meanwhile, Xiao Yiqing and his companions were ambushed on their journey back from Nanjiang to Luoyang. Nan Chu recognized some of the attackers from a previous battle at the Blue Mountains, concluding they were from the Moon Sect.
Chi Xiaotai also suggested that Ming He might have orchestrated the attack to eliminate them discreetly and avoid shaming her sect by reneging on a promise. In the Moon Palace, Ming He yearned for Jia Ruo's return. Although she wished for Jia Ruo to return willingly, Ming He had her disciples continue the search for him and Shu Jingrong, insisting they be found despite Qing Hui's reports of no trace of Jia Ruo and Shu Jingrong on Lingjiu Mountain.
She spoke aloud to him, promising to concede to his every wish, even letting Shu Jingrong go, if he would just return to her. While in Xiao Yiqing's room, Shu Jingrong stumbled upon a record detailing the use of a golden needle to seal memories. At that very moment, Jia Ruo suffered a severe relapse, writhing in pain and crying out for medicine from Ming He.
Shu Jingrong immediately channeled her inner energy into him, dislodging a fine golden needle from his neck. Jia Ruo then fell into a deep, dream-like state, vividly recalling the tragic Sand Valley battle, the innocent yet treacherous face of Ye Huo, and the heartbreaking calls of Gao Mengfei and Shu Jingrong. He finally remembered his true identity as Qing Lan.
Waking up, he feigned ignorance, deciding to continue as Jia Ruo to spare Shu Jingrong the painful memories of his past. He thought of Shu Jingrong, realizing that she had strived for so many years in the pugilistic world since the Sand Valley tragedy, becoming as cold as winter. He concluded that she had likely not reminded him of his past as Qing Lan because she wanted to protect him from the painful memories.
He resolved to maintain his pretense as the ignorant Jia Ruo to prevent her from worrying about him. Xiao Yiqing's health had severely deteriorated after transferring most of his inner energy to Shu Jingrong, and the Lovesick Tears venom in his body became uncontrollable.
Although his body was weak, Xiao Yiqing was well aware of the situation within Snow Tower, noticing Gao Mengfei and Chi Xiaotai's brewing discontent, and decided to split his party into two groups to prevent unforeseen incidents on their return journey. Nan Chu expressed his concern to Huang Quan, revealing that even Lady Xue Qingming had not offered a comforting prognosis, and that the devastating news they had received was taking a toll on Xiao Yiqing's well-being.
Huang Quan also questioned why Shi Mingyan, who was openly displeased with the Tower Master, was still kept within Snow Tower. Nan Chu explained that Xiao Yiqing felt profound guilt over Ye Fengsha's death and intended to care for Shi Mingyan, who had no other kin. Meanwhile, Madam Zi, suspicious of Gao Mengfei's unusual composure and frequent clandestine visits to Luoyang, ordered increased security around Snow Tower and sent additional escorts for Xiao Yiqing.
Jia Ruo stood in the courtyard, wistfully imagining a peaceful life with Shu Jingrong if the Sand Valley incident had never occurred. Unaware of Jia Ruo's recovered memories, Shu Jingrong expressed her desire to return to the Holy Lake, where she had seen a skeleton, believing it might be Hua Lian's.
She wanted to investigate Hua Lian's death to clear Xue Wen's name, feeling deeply indebted and unable to forgive herself if she had indeed killed Xue Wen during her venomous attack. Jia Ruo initially warned her against the Holy Lake's dangers but then noticed the unusual darkness and extinguished prayer lights on Lingjiu Mountain, signaling trouble in the Moon Palace. Fearing for Ming He, he insisted on returning immediately, with Shu Jingrong accompanying him.
Upon arriving at the quiet Moon Palace, Shu Jingrong observed Jia Ruo's palpable concern for Ming He, silently realizing he remained the High Priest of the Moon Sect. Jia Ruo found Ming He recovering in a bath, pale but overjoyed by his return. Ming He embraced and kissed him, asking why he had left and if he intended to abandon her and the sect; Shu Jingrong turned away at this sight.
Jia Ruo affirmed his commitment to his role as High Priest, stating he would stay for the Mistress. Ming He then warned Shu Jingrong that Xiao Yiqing was gravely ill and facing betrayal from within Snow Tower, urging her to return to help. Jia Ruo echoed this, emphasizing that Snow Tower needed Shu Jingrong's aid and her investigation would have to wait.
Before Shu Jingrong departed, she asked Jia Ruo if he truly loved Ming He and intended to fight for her. Jia Ruo then requested Ming He to remove the Blood Venoms from Qing Hui, the Left Guardian, and Gu Guang, the Right Guardian, citing their loyal service during his absence. Ming He, though somewhat hesitant, agreed to his request and urged him to recuperate while she managed the sect.
Jia Ruo later met Shu Jingrong outside, providing her with provisions, money, and a mount for her journey back to Snow Tower. He acknowledged the kindness shown by Shu Jingrong and Tower Master Xiao, stating that if he wasn't the High Priest, they might have become good friends. He asked Shu Jingrong to protect Xiao Yiqing, advising her to show no mercy to any unrepentant rebels.
When Shu Jingrong confronted him about the profound enmity between Snow Tower and Moon Sect, Jia Ruo responded that he had decided to protect his sect and would do his best to prevent further bloodshed. Shu Jingrong watched him leave, silently vowing to return for him so they could visit their Master's grave in Sand Valley together.
Back at Snow Tower, Shi Mingyan subtly stoked Chi Xiaotai's resentment towards Xiao Yiqing, highlighting how Chi Xiaotai, despite her noble status, was treated similarly to an outsider. Chi Xiaotai confronted Gao Mengfei, asking if he was responsible for the second ambush on Xiao Yiqing's returning party. Gao Mengfei admitted it, regretting their failure due to the Tower Master's caution. Chi Xiaotai expressed her dismay that Xiao Yiqing had kept her in the dark.
Meanwhile, Ming He's messenger confirmed to a furious Gao Mengfei that Shu Jingrong had successfully detoxified and left Lingjiu Mountain unharmed. Xiao Yiqing, now at Snow Tower, instructed Nan Chu to thoroughly investigate the attacks that occurred during their journey. Ming He, anticipating further turmoil at Snow Tower, prepared her own forces for action.
