Feeling increasingly frustrated by Zhao Jin's unreturned calls, Xu Nuo gathered her courage and went to his home. She confronted him, demanding to know why he had ignored her, and in his presence, she openly cried and complained. Zhao Jin, however, remained emotionally distant. They went out to eat and later shared coffee, but Zhao Jin still held back, unwilling to advance their relationship.
He confessed that he felt burdened by her presence, believing he shouldn't have anything to do with her, and that contacting him caused him unhappiness. He feared that if she rushed forward due to temporary feelings, she would suffer far more than he would. He expressed that he didn't want anyone to be sad because of him and suggested they remain just friends, as they had initially agreed.
Xu Nuo, in tears, admitted she lacked the confidence to simply be friends and asked him to help her avoid coming to him again. Zhao Jin responded that he didn't know how to be with her and felt he wasn't good enough for her. Later, as Zhao Jin dropped Xu Nuo off at her apartment, they encountered Xu Yang and Shi Ran. Shi Ran explained that her heater was broken, so she was staying with Xu Nuo.
Shi Ran then mischievously suggested they all go up to Xu Nuo’s apartment, hoping to create an opportunity for Xu Nuo and Zhao Jin. After some initial awkwardness and a failed attempt to find cards or wine, Shi Ran insisted that she and Xu Yang go out to buy some beer and snacks, leaving Xu Nuo and Zhao Jin alone in the apartment. While Zhao Jin waited, Xu Nuo received a phone call from Peng Yuan.
In front of Zhao Jin, she told Peng Yuan that she wanted to break up. Peng Yuan was shocked, questioning if she was serious. Xu Nuo firmly stated that this time was different, asserting that he had lost her love, and that she was not seeking attention. She then hung up, claiming it was inconvenient to talk further.
Zhao Jin, who had stayed because he knew she would complain if he left, gently told her he would pretend he didn't know about the breakup and that her decision had nothing to do with him. Xu Nuo acknowledged her feelings were chaotic and that she felt like escaping, concluding that Zhao Jin was "the best person to bully" in her current state, and thanked him.
When Shi Ran and Xu Yang returned with their purchases, the four sat down to drink and chat. Shi Ran, having heard from Xu Yang that Zhao Jin liked someone, pressed Zhao Jin about his ideal woman. He admitted he liked "silly girls," leading to some light teasing. Later, Zhao Jin received a call from his sister, Xiao Qin, who guessed he was with Xu Nuo.
Xiao Qin confided in him about a nightmare and her recent arguments with him, expressing her fondness for Xu Nuo and her desire to be friends with her. Zhao Jin initially hesitated but eventually passed the phone to Xu Nuo, who happily spoke with Xiao Qin. Meanwhile, Peng Yuan, disturbed by the phone breakup, drove to Xu Nuo's apartment to confront her. Xu Nuo went outside to speak with him, while Zhao Jin and Shi Ran continued their barbecue.
Peng Yuan angrily questioned her decision to end their long relationship over the phone, demanding a chance to reconcile. His voice grew loud, prompting Xu Nuo to ask him to quiet down. When he grabbed her arm, Zhao Jin started to intervene, but Shi Ran stopped him, stepping out herself to mediate. Peng Yuan, seeing Shi Ran, asked if there was anyone else in the house.
Xu Nuo confirmed her friends were inside, inviting him to join them if he was worried. Peng Yuan then noticed male shoes in the entryway of Xu Nuo's apartment, intensifying his suspicions. Seeing the rising tension, Xu Yang quickly decided that he and Zhao Jin should leave, despite Zhao Jin's initial hesitation. The next morning, Zhao Jin found Xiao Qin suffering from another nosebleed.
He insisted that they must give away their cat, Big Face, citing the doctor's warnings about her poor immunity and the risk of infection. Xiao Qin vehemently refused, reminding him of their previous agreement and asserting that Big Face was her only companion. The argument escalated, with Zhao Jin emphasizing her health and asking her to choose between her "life or cat." Later, Zhao Jin's partner noticed his troubled mood.
Zhao Jin confessed his worries about Xiao Qin and admitted he liked a girl, but felt their situations were too complicated and fraught with obstacles. He questioned if these difficulties were a sign for them to give up. His partner firmly told him that love was not charity, and self-sacrifice was foolish and selfish.
She encouraged him to be brave, stressing how rare it was to find someone you liked who liked you back, and warned that he would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn't pursue it. Meanwhile, Xiao Qin, still upset about the cat, brought Big Face to Xu Nuo's flower shop. She explained her brother's insistence on giving the cat away.
Xu Nuo, listening empathetically, offered to take Big Face herself and invited Xiao Qin to work at the flower shop, proposing a trade: Xiao Qin would teach her about cats, and Xu Nuo would teach Xiao Qin about flowers. Xiao Qin was thrilled by the offer, realizing she could both keep her beloved cat close and find a source of income. Peng Yuan, still reeling from the breakup, sought out Xu Nuo's father.
Xu Nuo's father, who had previously received help from Peng Yuan and thought highly of him, was shocked to learn that Xu Nuo wanted to end their engagement. He then confronted Xu Nuo's mother, complaining that she hadn't known about their daughter's breakup and speculating that Xu Nuo might have someone else.
Xu Nuo's mother, after talking to Xu Nuo, learned that her daughter indeed broke up with Peng Yuan because she no longer liked him and refused to marry him. Xu Nuo's grandmother, however, offered a more understanding perspective, advising Xu Nuo to live according to her own wishes and avoid future regrets.
Later, Peng Yuan, now aware that Zhao Jin had been at Xu Nuo's apartment the night he visited, invited Zhao Jin out for a drink under the guise of being colleagues. Zhao Jin, upfront, confirmed that he and Xu Yang had indeed been at Xu Nuo's house that night, and that he had been aware of Peng Yuan's arrival, choosing to stay inside rather than greet him. Separately, Shi Ran and Xu Yang went on a date.
Xu Yang, teasingly, asked Shi Ran if she truly liked Zhao Jin. Shi Ran, however, clarified that Zhao Jin's true affections were for Xu Nuo, which surprised Xu Yang. She further explained her reasoning for not letting Peng Yuan enter Xu Nuo's apartment that night, emphasizing that it would have caused more embarrassment for everyone involved.
