Killer And Healer Episode 14 Recap
> Killer And Healer Recap
Chu Ran questioned her editor about a recent newspaper report. Her editor explained that Chief Editor Yu personally replaced the content just before printing, placing it on the front page without a reporter's signature. This practice, known as "paying for headlines," involves companies or individuals paying for articles to be published. While usually used for praise, this particular report exposed a superior.
The editor expressed disbelief that Jiang Yuelou could be depicted in such a negative light and advised Chu Ran to be gentle with her questions during the next day's interview. Later, Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi sat together, observing a cat that now preferred Chen Yuzhi, as he often fed it when it was hungry. Jiang Yuelou stated his determination to fully investigate a brewing threat. Chen Yuzhi, concerned by the aggressive nature of their adversaries, urged caution.
Jiang Yuelou, however, welcomed open confrontation over hidden attacks, which he found much harder to investigate. Chen Yuzhi then inquired about Executive Zhan, whom Jiang Yuelou regarded as a man of honor, feeling indebted to him. They discussed Yu Qing's recovery at Mansion Zhan. Despite Executive Zhan’s careful arrangements, including a live-in doctor and visits from Zining, Yu Qing’s throat condition and shoulder injury meant he likely could not perform opera again.
Yu Qing, however, chose the fleeting joy of singing over a long life without it. Zining confided in Yu Qing, revealing that Qiu Ming had arranged a separate residence for Executive Zhan’s uncle, Zhan Tianqing, who was not as easygoing as Executive Zhan. She worried Yu Qing might offend him. Yu Qing reassured her, emphasizing that Zhan Tianqing was staying in a separate villa while he himself remained at Mansion Zhan, and that he understood the nuances of their situation.
Meanwhile, Song Rong and Sun Yongren located the deceased woman responsible for planting opium at Yuzhi Hall, concluding that Jinma Hall was involved. They returned to the police bureau. At the police bureau, Yu Sinian from Jing City Daily interviewed Jiang Yuelou about his anti-opium efforts. Chu Ran, also present, confronted Jiang Yuelou directly about the newspaper article depicting him assaulting a man. Jiang Yuelou admitted to hitting the man, stating he "deserved it," but offered no further explanation.
Determined to find the truth, Chu Ran approached the man in the photo, who denied any wrongdoing. She then spoke to his wife, who bore visible signs of abuse. The wife confessed that while Jiang Yuelou did hit her husband, the injuries in the newspaper were exaggerated. She revealed that her husband had been paid a large sum by an unknown party to frame Jiang Yuelou.
In exchange for Chu Ran's help with a divorce, the wife agreed to provide real photos of her husband’s injuries for comparison. Chu Ran later informed Jiang Yuelou that the incident was a premeditated setup, but he dismissed it, stating he had too many enemies and would handle the matter himself. Sun Yongren subsequently reported to Jiang Yuelou that Jinma Hall's people had been sighted.
Concurrently, Chen Yuzhi, after arranging for someone to inform Wang Meng that his mother had fallen, successfully lured him back home. Chen Yuzhi confronted Wang Meng, attempting to subdue him, but was overpowered and taken hostage. Wang Meng’s mother, who had poor eyesight, came out and warmly welcomed Chen Yuzhi, believing him to be Wang Meng’s friend.
She asked Wang Meng to serve Chen Yuzhi soup dumplings and shared stories of Wang Meng’s life as a sailor, his filial devotion, and her hopes for him to marry and give her grandchildren. Wang Meng appeared uneasy throughout. As they prepared to leave, Jiang Yuelou and his team stormed the house. Wang Meng held Chen Yuzhi at gunpoint, using him as a shield.
When his mother called out, distracting him, Chen Yuzhi seized the opportunity to disarm Wang Meng, leading to his arrest. The mother was devastated, tearfully trying to stop the police from taking her son, while Chen Yuzhi attempted to comfort her. Later, Chu Ran confronted Chief Editor Yu with a new article that presented the true account, directly contradicting the previous report. Chief Editor Yu was furious, accusing her of embarrassing the newspaper and their colleagues.
Chu Ran questioned whether a reporter’s conscience or reputation was more important, to which Chief Editor Yu retorted that for a newspaper, circulation was paramount. Chu Ran then removed her work badge and threatened to take her story to Zhaojian newspaper, implying she would leave. A colleague warned Chu Ran that her actions had angered Yu Cheng, a powerful and long-serving figure within the company, potentially jeopardizing her career. However, Chu Ran remained steadfast in her pursuit of the truth.
Shortly after, Chu Ran received a visit from Aunt Zhang, who conveyed her "Madam's" insistence that Chu Ran return home for the weekend. Chu Ran’s colleague, overhearing the conversation, expressed confusion, noting that Chu Ran’s biological mother had passed away, and questioned the identity of "Madam." Chu Ran curtly dismissed the inquiry, stating it was none of her business.
