Hua Buqi tearfully buried her loyal companion, Ah Huang, resolving to live on and fulfill Uncle Jiu's last wishes. Returning to the backyard, she confronted the black-clad man she had hidden, pulling off his mask. He awoke suddenly, grabbing her and demanding she bandage his wound, promising not to kill her since she had saved him. Hua Buqi feigned compliance, tearing a bedsheet for bandages, but when he asked for food, she seized the opportunity.

Stepping outside to fetch sweet potatoes, she quickly bolted the door and then loudly cried out for help, alerting the Lin household that a thief was in the backyard. The severely injured black-clad man, now trapped and pursued by Lin family guards, was forced to break out through the door and escape. As he desperately sought an exit, he spotted a dog hole, resolving to swallow his pride and squeeze through.

However, Hua Buqi, determined to ensure his capture, loudly directed the Lin guards to the dog hole, enraging the black-clad man who vowed to return and settle the score with her. Amidst the chaos of the chase, Hua Buqi managed to slip away from the Lin Manor. With nowhere else to go, Hua Buqi decided to return to the dilapidated house, believing her pursuers wouldn't expect her to go back.

To her surprise, she found two men, Mo Ruofei and his servant Jiansheng, inside, one of whom was injured. Just then, Butler Lin and the Lin family guards arrived at the broken house, still tracking the original thief. Seizing the chance to escape, Hua Buqi falsely claimed she had followed the thief to the house and pointed to Mo Ruofei, accusing him and his servant of being the culprits.

She inwardly apologized to the strangers, explaining that she had no choice but to frame them to avoid being caught and forced into an undesirable marriage with Master Lin. Mo Ruofei, a distinguished young master from the Mo family in the capital, explained his presence as a result of his carriage being destroyed by a bear, forcing him to take temporary shelter.

He expressed his intention to seek medical help at Yaoling Manor and offered to go there to clarify the misunderstanding if Hua Buqi would serve as his witness. Hua Buqi fled to a mountain cave, finding a moment of peace to roast sweet potatoes. However, Mo Ruofei soon tracked her down. He confronted her, demanding she return with him to Yaoling Manor to testify on his behalf, as he had been unjustly accused and his servant arrested.

Hua Buqi, initially feigning fear and praising his martial arts skills, tried to avoid returning, claiming she wanted to fulfill Uncle Jiu’s dying wish of reviving the Hua Clan by continuing their family tradition of begging. She even held out her old begging bowl as proof. Mo Ruofei, though initially disgusted by her beggar's bowl, offered her a "golden rice bowl" if she returned with him, promising her a life of respect.

Tempted, Hua Buqi agreed to be his witness but tried to negotiate being taken on as his maidservant instead of returning directly to the manor, fearing more trouble. Mo Ruofei dismissed the idea of her as a maid, stating he had plenty of servants, and when she threatened not to go, he insisted she had no choice and began to pull her along. A sudden downpour forced them back into the cave.

Meanwhile, Chen Yu and his attendant, Ah Shi, anxiously searched the streets for Hua Buqi. Chen Yu expressed his deep concern for the "little beggar" and ordered an extensive search for her. While stuck in the cave, Hua Buqi contemplated seeking out "Young Lord Chen" at the guesthouse, but Mo Ruofei prevented any further escape attempts, warning her to behave.

Hua Buqi, in turn, tried to flatter Mo Ruofei, complimenting his scent and calling him an "immortal" of ambiguous gender to avoid his wrath, which he threatened with cutting out her tongue. Back at Yaoling Manor, Lin Mantang’s son informed him that the First Miss of Mingyue Villa, Qingwu, had arrived, demanding to see the captured "Lotus Robe Knight."

Hua Buqi, having been brought back, clarified to Lin Mantang that Mo Ruofei was not the thief she had identified earlier, reaffirming her certainty about the actual thief who had killed Ah Huang. At this time, Mo Ruofei was with Hua Buqi and recognized her as the person he was searching for, feeling overjoyed. Lin Mantang's son, fearing Qingwu would discover Hua Buqi, attempted to take her away, but Mo Ruofei refused, leading to a fight between them.

Qingwu, having heard that Mo Ruofei was the captured "Lotus Robe Knight," informed Lin Mantang that he was actually the eldest young master of the Mo family from the capital, and no longer investigated further. She deduced he was in Xizhou to search for someone. She then instructed her men to monitor him closely but not to harm him while he was within Yaoling Manor, as it would implicate the Lin family.

Lin Mantang addressed Hua Buqi's concerns that he intended to take her as a concubine by revealing the true reason for his interest: he had a portrait of the Seventh Prince's long-lost daughter, and Hua Buqi resembled her by seventy to eighty percent. He urged her to stay, promising to send her to the Seventh Prince's manor once her identity was confirmed, and assured her she wouldn't be beheaded if she wasn't the daughter.

Hua Buqi, though initially skeptical, decided to stay, hoping this path would lead her to the capital and Mr. Zhu. To protect her, Lin Mantang publicly adopted Hua Buqi as his fifth daughter and instructed his own daughter, Lin Dansha, to teach her proper etiquette. Lin Dansha, initially reluctant to teach a "stinky beggar," quickly changed her tune upon learning Hua Buqi might be the Seventh Prince's daughter, becoming overly attentive in her lessons, despite Hua Buqi's unrefined manners.

Meanwhile, Lin Mantang visited Chen Yu, subtly probing his stance on the Seventh Prince's search for his illegitimate daughter. Chen Yu reacted with fury, vowing to find "that illegitimate child" and kill her in the most horrific way, causing Lin Mantang to hastily withdraw. Mo Ruofei, appearing composed, instructed Jiansheng to invite Lin Mantang to dinner at Riyue Restaurant, ostensibly to thank him for treating Jiansheng's injury.

During the dinner, Mo Ruofei revealed his primary purpose in Xizhou was to find the Seventh Prince's long-lost daughter, presenting a portrait and emphasizing the grave responsibility given the royal bloodline. Lin Mantang promised his assistance. Later, reflecting with his son, Lin Mantang mused over the "hot potato" situation. He initially hoped to use Hua Buqi to curry favor with Chen Yu and the Seventh Prince, but Chen Yu's hatred for the "illegitimate daughter" made that plan unviable.

Realizing Mo Ruofei's interest in Hua Buqi, Lin Mantang decided to give her to Mo Ruofei, hoping to gain benefits from him while also shifting any potential blame from the Seventh Prince or Heir Apparent onto Mo Ruofei. Lin Dansha continued to pamper Hua Buqi, offering her luxurious baths and beautiful new chambers, while Hua Buqi, enjoying her new life, still longed for true freedom.
