Gu Qingqiao walked through the streets, feeling hungry and without money, regretting not having eaten dinner before leaving. Just then, Song Yu offered her two flatbreads, revealing he had been following her all along. He told her she could cause him trouble instead of harming others, stating that all she needed was money and a livelihood, both of which he possessed.
Gu Qingqiao was touched, wondering why he was so kind to her after knowing her for such a short time. Song Yu showed her a necklace he had worn since childhood, explaining that the person in the portrait on it looked exactly like her. He believed this was destiny. Gu Qingqiao identified the necklace as the Meridian Gate, one of the Four Treasures she needed to collect to return home.
Song Yu told her that if she gathered the Four Treasures and still had time, he would wait for her in Changqing. Upon returning home, Song Yu discovered his parents had been killed by the Sacred Blood Sect. His father had printed a collection of writings exposing the Sacred Blood Sect's use of living people to practice Bloodcraft and urging the public to resist them.
This angered Lu Zizheng, the Leader of the Sacred Blood Sect, who sent people to kill them. Song Yu survived because he was not home at the time. However, Sacred Blood Sect members found a dragon pendant belonging to Duan Yu at the scene. Recognizing its significance, Ruoyun, a Sacred Blood Sect member present, reported it, and Lu Zizheng ordered his followers to capture Song Yu. Gu Qingqiao decided to take Song Yu to the Xiling Sect for protection.
After leaving the city, they were captured by a group of bandits. The chief of the Heihu Mountain bandits turned out to be Duan Shaoyi. Learning they were from Changqing, Shaoyi wanted them to lead his forces to attack the Sacred Blood Sect and take over Changqing. Hearing their target was the Sacred Blood Sect, Song Yu declared they would be his benefactors if they eliminated the sect and expressed his desire to join the attack to avenge his parents.
Shaoyi questioned Song Yu's abilities due to his frail appearance. Gu Qingqiao claimed Song Yu was a legendary archer in his previous life. When Song Yu initially struggled with a regular bow, Gu Qingqiao suggested Shaoyi might have a sleeve arrow. Shaoyi produced one, and Song Yu proved to be incredibly accurate with it.
Gu Qingqiao asked about Shaoyi's plan to attack the Sacred Blood Sect and quickly realized it was a suicidal mission with only a few dozen men against a heavily entrenched organization. She proposed an alternative: finding the Four Treasures to open the gate of time and space and restore the world to its original state. Just then, the Sacred Blood Sect attacked Heihu Mountain. Ruoyun used her Bloodcraft, slaughtering many bandits. Watching the chaos, Song Yu suddenly remembered his childhood.
He realized he was indeed from the Duan family of Changqing. He recalled the Sacred Blood Sect attacking his home, his father and brother being killed, and his mother helping him and Shaoyi escape. During their escape, he fell off a cliff, losing his memory, and was rescued by Song Yu's adoptive parents, who named him Song Yu. Duan Yu, Shaoyi, and Gu Qingqiao seized the opportunity to escape Heihu Mountain while Ruoyun was searching elsewhere.
Shaoyi grieved for his fallen brothers, lamenting his inability to save them. Duan Yu revealed his true identity, confirming he was Shaoyi's uncle. Shaoyi was saddened by his perceived weakness and felt unworthy of being the Chief of Heihu Mountain or possessing his token. Gu Qingqiao noticed the token around Shaoyi's neck and recognized it. Shaoyi explained it was the token passed down by the former chief. Gu Qingqiao identified it as the Heavenly Pearl, another of the Four Treasures.
She explained that with the Meridian Gate and the Heavenly Pearl, they now had two of the Four Treasures. If they could find Ruan Siqiong in Xiling to obtain the Black Wood Human-shaped Sword, they would have three. Gathering all four would allow them to open the gate of time and space and return to a time when the Duan family was the rightful leader.
Duan Yu declared his trust in Gu Qingqiao and pledged to help her collect the Four Treasures. Shaoyi, seeing no other viable option, also agreed to assist. Meanwhile, Lu Zizheng arrived at the Xiling Sect. He addressed Wang Tianshan as "Master," which greatly flattered Wang Tianshan, who insisted he was unworthy of such a title from the Sacred Blood Sect's leader. Lu Zizheng expressed his intention to attend Wang Tianshan's classes.
Gu Qingqiao, Duan Yu, and Shaoyi arrived in Qingshui Town. They saw wanted posters for Duan Yu and Shaoyi displayed publicly. Gu Qingqiao recalled how she had previously modified her own wanted poster using a similar method to evade capture. While in town, Shaoyi encountered a young woman, Xiao Wu, who stole his jade pendant.
Shaoyi chased after her, intending to make her his "stockade wife," but Xiao Wu and her companions mocked him and told him to strip, creating a comical scene before eventually returning the pendant. Gu Qingqiao then continued her efforts to find information.
