Zhou Jianqing observed Gu Nanzhou as he slept, noting how cute he appeared, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor. When Gu Nanzhou stirred and woke up, Zhou Jianqing nervously claimed there was a mosquito on his face before quickly retreating to her room. Later, Zhou Jianqing called Su Youxia, pretending to seek advice for a friend. She described a scenario where a girl had a crush on a boy but couldn't pursue it due to professional ethics.
Su Youxia confided in turn about her own similar situation, having fallen for someone seemingly impossible. Both women soon realized they were discussing their own predicaments. Zhou Jianqing admitted to Su Youxia that she felt her heart race whenever she saw Gu Nanzhou. She then tried to guess who Su Youxia was interested in, listing off potential candidates.
Su Youxia finally revealed she had met the man in her photography class, describing him as a gentle, artistic man who unfortunately didn't reciprocate her feelings. Their conversation was interrupted by Zhou Zixuan's arrival at Su Youxia's door, delivering a basket of fruit at Zhou Jianqing's request to avoid having to cut and peel it for Gu Nanzhou. At the company, Gu Nanzhou was informed that a meeting had been rescheduled and his psychologist wanted to arrange the next session.
Meanwhile, Jiang Jingxuan was pursuing a new project, "Different Worlds," which was nearing the contract signing phase. Gu Nanzhou was hesitant, concerned it would divert resources and affect the progress of "Lake Xingling." Jiang Jingxuan, however, argued that "Different Worlds" was a rare, commercially viable opportunity that could secure more investment for Xingyun, suggesting they slow down "Lake Xingling" instead. When Zhou Jianqing stopped by, Gu Nanzhou asked her to choose between the two projects, ignoring external factors.
Zhou Jianqing advised him to choose the project he truly loved. This prompted Gu Nanzhou to recall a childhood memory of his brother promising to turn the "Lake Xingling" story into an animation. To help Gu Nanzhou make a decision, Zhou Jianqing proposed a "first reaction" game. When asked if he preferred her or Jiang Jingxuan, Gu Nanzhou reflexively blurted out that he preferred Zhou Jianqing.
The moment was awkward, and Gu Nanzhou quickly dismissed his answer as a slip of the tongue, then went on to list her supposed flaws, calling her noisy, clumsy, money-minded, and chubby. Zhou Jianqing was deeply offended. Elsewhere, Zhou Zixuan was worried about finding a job. He received a call from Uncle Li, who informed him that a friend, Mr. Peng, had opened a new restaurant and was looking for a manager.
Uncle Li recommended Zhou Zixuan, citing his experience in hotel management. Zhou Zixuan met with Mr. Peng, presenting a detailed management plan that incorporated current popular trends, which impressed Mr. Peng. Back at Xingyun, Gu Nanzhou announced his decision to proceed with "Lake Xingling" and postpone "Different Worlds." Jiang Jingxuan expressed concern, calling "Lake Xingling" a niche project that could risk Xingyun's stability if it failed. Gu Nanzhou then asked the team to vote, ignoring cost, profit, or risk.
The majority voted for "Lake Xingling," reinforcing Gu Nanzhou's commitment to the project. He stressed that while preference doesn't guarantee success, a team's passion for a story is crucial to creating a good work. After visiting six investment companies, Xingyun finally secured a new round of investment from two large companies for "Lake Xingling."
To celebrate, Gu Nanzhou arranged a company gathering and specifically invited Zhou Jianqing, calling her an "interim assistant" and "mascot," not an outsider, and suggesting the meal was compensation for her help. At the gathering, the team greeted Zhou Jianqing as "lady boss," much to Jiang Jingxuan's annoyance. A subtle rivalry played out as Jiang Jingxuan offered Gu Nanzhou fish. Not to be outdone, Zhou Jianqing offered him chili and ginger.

Zhou Jianqing suggested they all go see a free fountain projection performance at a nearby square, boasting that she saved Gu Nanzhou money. He jokingly called her Xingyun's "housekeeper." Amidst the noise of the crowd, Gu Nanzhou gathered his courage and attempted to confess his feelings to Zhou Jianqing, repeatedly saying "I like you," but she couldn't hear him over the commotion.
Frustrated, Gu Nanzhou grabbed her hand and urgently arranged to meet her at the same square at 7 PM the next day, stating he had something very important to tell her. Zhou Jianqing, still confused, agreed. The next day, Zhou Jianqing arrived at the square at 7 PM. Gu Nanzhou, hiding nearby, called her and instructed her to keep walking forward.
