Gu Nanzhou remained silent. Meanwhile, at Xingyun, Mr. He from Yingqi proposed product placement in the "Lake Xingling" animation.
Gu Nanzhou firmly rejected the idea for the main fantasy portion of the series, explaining that once the characters entered Lake Xingling, he wanted to minimize realism and prohibit any advertising. He would only allow limited placement in the real-life segments, which constituted just ten percent of the runtime.
Despite Mr. He warning that Yingqi could contractually withdraw their investment if Xingyun didn't cooperate, Gu Nanzhou stood firm, stating that "Lake Xingling" was a project he had envisioned for over a decade and its structure was unchangeable. Soon after, Yingqi officially pulled their funding, citing the investment as too risky. This created a significant cash flow problem for Xingyun, as they were due to make a payment to Bule Ray.
Jiang Jingxuan suspected Lu Ziming's involvement, noting his close friendship with Mr. He. She believed it was Lu Ziming's scheme to first have Xingyun sign with Bule Ray, then orchestrate Yingqi's withdrawal to financially cripple them. Jiang Jingxuan also commented that Zhou Jianqing's well-intentioned efforts to secure Yingqi's investment had inadvertently led Xingyun into serious trouble.
Gu Nanzhou immediately corrected her, stating that the decision to collaborate with Yingqi was entirely his own and had nothing to do with Zhou Jianqing. He then instructed Jiang Jingxuan to negotiate with Bule Ray, and she successfully delayed the initial payment for a week, but the company still faced a severe cash shortage. Mr. He ended the discussion, telling Zhou Jianqing she did not meet their standards for collaboration. As Zhou Jianqing departed, she researched the incident and discovered that today was November 22nd, the anniversary of the Chunyu Square stampede and of Gu Nanzhou's brother's death. Returning home, Zhou Jianqing couldn't find Gu Nanzhou. Jiang Xiaochuan called, worried because Gu Nanzhou had missed a meeting, his pill box was empty, and he wasn't answering his phone.
Xiaochuan added that Lu Ziming had been spreading rumors about Xingyun's financial instability, sabotaging their efforts to find new investors. Worried, Zhou Jianqing eventually found Gu Nanzhou on the rooftop. To lift his spirits, she began eating crayfish and invited him to join. When Gu Nanzhou struggled to peel one, she patiently taught him. After successfully peeling a crayfish, he surprised Zhou Jianqing by feeding it to her.
When Zhou Jianqing tried to leave, she found the rooftop door locked, realizing she'd forgotten her key and her phone was dead. Gu Nanzhou feigned the same predicament. He then encouraged her to stargaze, sharing facts his intelligent older brother had taught him about the constellations. He mused that if his brother were still alive, his father wouldn't be so disappointed in him. Soon, Zhou Jianqing grew drowsy, and Gu Nanzhou offered her his jacket.
As she put it on, she discovered the large rooftop key in his pocket. Seeing through his lie, she unlocked the door and rushed back inside, leaving a flustered Gu Nanzhou on the roof. Later, Zhou Jianqing sent Gu Nanzhou lavender-scented flower tea to help him sleep, including a message apologizing for his anger and calling him a "great Party A." The next morning, Gu Nanzhou emerged from his room shirtless and called her to breakfast. As he approached, seemingly to tease her, Zhou Jianqing's breathing grew tense.
