Following their arrival in the snowy town of Qingque, Cai Zhao and Qian Xueshen are joined by Mu Qingyan, who takes charge of Cai Zhao’s daily needs while relegating Qian Xueshen to the woodshed as a lesson in humility. Cai Zhao is surprised by Mu’s domestic skills, prompting him to explain that his father found peace in simple chores like cleaning and organizing, contrary to the bloodthirsty reputation of the Mu clan.
Their conversation turns to the history of the Li Sect; Mu reveals that Nie Hengcheng was once the sect's "anchor" but was corrupted by the Ziwei Method, a powerful martial art that warps the practitioner's nature. Seeking to escape Mu Qingyan’s control, Cai Zhao successfully tricks him with sleeping powder and hurries away with Qian Xueshen. Unbeknownst to her, Mu Qingyan merely feigned unconsciousness to let her feel a brief sense of triumph.
Eventually, Cai Zhao and Qian Xueshen arrive at a mountain inn, checking in as a newly engaged couple under the aliases Feng Xiaohan and Wan Dazhuang. A servant girl named Qinong mistakes them for fellow treasure hunters and reveals that the legendary Snow-Scale Beast is about to appear. Everyone at the inn seeks its saliva, a rare substance capable of repairing internal energy and granting longevity to her sickly master, Chen Shu.
The atmosphere at the inn turns violent when two thugs harass Cai Zhao. Before she can strike, Mu Qingyan enters and kills the thugs instantly with flying chopsticks. He loudly laments having to search for his runaway fiancée who supposedly eloped with the "pretty boy" Qian Xueshen. While the onlookers are stunned by the brutality, Zhou Zhiqin of Peiqiong Manor clarifies that the deceased were actually notorious criminals.
Cai Zhao recognizes Zhou from her childhood, but Mu Qingyan maintains his disguise under the alias Yan Ning. To further manipulate the crowd, Mu Qingyan uses a fake scale from the beast to provoke a scramble. Zhou Zhiqin joins the fray, claiming he only seeks the beast to find the remains of his son, Zhou Yulin, while Chen Shu and Qinong watch with lethal intent.
That night, the landlady sneaks into Cai Zhao’s room to warn her of the perils ahead, urging her to leave the mountain. Ignoring the warning, the group ventures into the mountains the next day and becomes trapped in a "ghost maze." Mu Qingyan notices the elderly servant Jiu Bo using immense internal power to shatter the ice and break through the illusion. The group finds shelter in an abandoned cabin, where Cai Zhao discovers a wooden sword.
Mu Qingyan remains focused on the old man, suspecting that Jiu Bo is actually Duan Jiuxiu, the Elder Tianji. Duan was the other adopted son of Mu’s great-grandfather, a man who allegedly died years ago after Cai Zhao's aunt, Cai Pingshu, issued a warrant against him for his horrific crimes. The following day, the group falls into a massive ice cave filled with corpses. A terrifying Red-Eyed Crystal Python emerges, its icy breath freezing several warriors and killing Qian Xueshen.
In the chaos, they find the frozen body of Zhou Yulin clutching a bottle of the beast's saliva. A struggle ensues until the bottle ends up in Cai Zhao’s possession. During the fight, Mu Qingyan confronts Jiu Bo, exposing him as Duan Jiuxiu and identifying his signature Wudu Palm. Mu Qingyan also identifies Chen Shu as a sycophant within the Li Sect who is secretly seeking the Ziwei Method.
Cai Zhao manages to rescue Zhou Zhiqin and brings him to a hut to wait for Mu Qingyan, only to hear reports that Mu and the elder were swallowed by the python. The greedy survivors immediately pressure Cai Zhao to hand over the saliva. In this moment, Zhou Zhiqin’s true colors are revealed. Cai Zhao recognizes his sword style, "Moonlight Toast," and realizes his earlier protective actions were merely a ruse.
Zhou Zhiqin admits he did not come for his son’s remains, but for the saliva needed to practice the Ziwei Method and gain absolute power. No longer playing the grieving father, Zhou Zhiqin aligns himself with the other seekers, demanding that Cai Zhao surrender the treasure.
