Cai Zhao disregarded the stern warnings of her elders and stood firmly in front of Mu Qingyan to protect him. Mu Qingyan, despite being severely injured, did not flee. Seeing his harrowing condition, Cai Zhao struggled to hold back her tears, convinced that the skin-painted demon could not possibly be his father.

Mu Qingyan produced evidence to prove that Mu Zhengming was innocent of those crimes, but as the leader of the Li Sect, he was still viewed as a threat. Qi Yunke and the other leaders refused to let him go, and in the chaos, Cai Zhao was struck unconscious to end her interference. In the aftermath, the sect leaders examined Mu Qingyan's evidence and were stunned to find a marriage contract between Cai Pingshu and a man named Mu Zhengyang.

This man was a mystery to them, as if he had appeared from nowhere. The elders recalled a refined and talented man who had once befriended them, but they had never known his true identity. Despite the revelation that Mu Qingyan’s father was not the skin-painted demon, Qi Yunke remained cold, stating that Mu Qingyan could not be absolved because of his ties to the demonic sect.

Meanwhile, news arrived that Nie Zhe had taken advantage of Mu Qingyan’s absence to seize control of the Bliss Palace. Song Shijun cautioned Qi Yunke against falling for Nie Zhe’s trap, noting that the traitorous subordinate wanted nothing more than for the Six Sects to execute Mu Qingyan so he could solidify his own power.

After careful deliberation, Qi Yunke decided that instead of execution, they would abolish Mu Qingyan’s cultivation by destroying his dantian and meridians, imprisoning him for life to prevent any future trouble. Seeking vengeance for his master Wang Yuanjing, Li Min slipped into the dungeon intent on killing Mu Qingyan. However, Song Yuzhi arrived just in time to stop him.

Song Yuzhi reminded Li Min that acting out of hatred might lead to a scandal that would tarnish the late leader's reputation, as Wang Yuanjing was known for his benevolence. Once Li Min left, Song Yuzhi questioned Mu Qingyan about why he had risked his life to come to the Qingque Sect.

Mu Qingyan admitted it was a gamble; he knew that unless he stood before her elders and faced death, Cai Zhao might never believe his explanation or choose him over her sect. Song Yuzhi could only call him a madman for betting his life on such a slim hope. Cai Zhao remained under house arrest, appearing calm on the surface.

She knew that Mu Qingyan had already spent five years in darkness as a child, and she believed that life imprisonment would be a fate worse than death for him. Her parents, hoping to comfort her, suggested that once his cultivation was abolished, they could take him back to Luoying Valley to live out his remaining days in peace. The following morning, Cai Zhao surprised everyone with a hearty appetite.

While eating with Fan Xingjia, she revealed her true intention: she planned to die alongside Mu Qingyan. Softened by her resolve, Fan Xingjia helped her disguise herself as a servant to infiltrate the dungeon, with Qi Lingbo even providing secret assistance because she was moved by Mu Qingyan’s sincerity. However, Qi Yunke had already moved Mu Qingyan to a secret location. Frustrated, Cai Zhao pleaded with her uncles for a chance to see him.

She spoke passionately, defending Mu Qingyan and arguing that the Six Sects were acting like villains. She pointed out that he had never harmed them and that his hands were far cleaner than those of leaders like Yin Dai. Her mother, Lady Ning, also fiercely defended her daughter’s sense of loyalty, criticizing the hypocrisy of the Six Sects and even threatening to reveal the dark secrets of Yin Dai and Wang Yuanjing if they continued to deny Cai Zhao’s request.

Eventually, Song Yuzhi took pity on the pair and allowed them a final meeting. Mu Qingyan was a gruesome sight, covered in blood and bound by heavy chains. Cai Zhao handed him a luminous pearl, knowing he was secretly afraid of the dark from his childhood trauma. She hoped the light would bring him comfort in the lightless dungeon. Mu Qingyan remained defiant, declaring that even if he were reduced to ashes, he would find a way back to her.

Knowing that Qi Yunke was monitoring them from the shadows, Cai Zhao forced herself to speak coldly. She claimed she would never abandon her parents or her sect for him and declared that they were severing all ties. Song Shijun observed the strange behavior of the younger generation and warned his son not to interfere further, suspecting that Cai Zhao’s sudden compliance might be a prelude to something more significant.

That evening, Cai Zhao solemnly promised her parents that she would witness the execution of Mu Qingyan's cultivation and then return with them to Luoying Valley, vowing to leave the martial world behind forever. During a quiet moment, Uncle Zhou recalled the past, mentioning the Moon Shadow style and how Cai Pingshu had once been his fiancée before their lives were torn apart by the war between good and evil. He realized that Cai Zhao’s aunt had truly cared for him, even after their paths diverged.
