The tension at the Qingque Sect reaches a breaking point when Song Shijun, leader of the Guangtian Sect, brings forward a newcomer named Jiang Ning to challenge Chang Ning’s identity. Jiang Ning presents himself with calculated precision, recounting intimate details of the Chang family, such as his mother’s Suzhou origins, her birthday on the sixteenth day of the eleventh month, and her fondness for Furong Thousand-Layer Pastry.

To solidify his claim, he reveals a striking burn scar on his left arm, which he attributes to a fireplace accident sixteen years ago while his father was away assisting the heroine Cai Pingshu. The Chang Ning currently residing at the sect remains remarkably composed. He counters by questioning Jiang Ning about a hidden word marked on the third shelf of the family study and challenges the newcomer to reveal a dog-bite scar on his leg.

As the assembly wavers, Sect Leader Qi Yunke suggests a duel using the Chang family’s signature Willow Sword technique. However, Chang Ning explains that his father kept him sheltered due to his lifelong frailty, permitting him only to practice internal cultivation to strengthen his meridians rather than combat arts. Unimpressed, the elder Li Wenxun decides on a more intrusive method: a direct trial of their internal power.

He forcibly injects his energy into both men, causing Chang Ning to vomit blood due to his existing poison and injuries, while Jiang Ning loses consciousness. Both are taken to the medicine hut under the care of Lei Shumo. That night, Cai Zhao’s younger brother, Hanhan, overhears a terrifying conversation in the kitchen.

He learns that if the true heir is not identified by morning, Li Wenxun intends to pierce the collarbones of both men and cripple their martial arts to eliminate any threat. Panic-stricken, Cai Zhao rushes to find the two men, only to find the guards drugged with sleeping incense. She discovers Chang Ning using a golden whistle to summon a massive eagle.

Before they can escape, Li Wenxun pursues them with a crossbow, and in the ensuing chaos, both Cai Zhao and Chang Ning tumble off a steep cliff, landing within the secluded grounds of Taichu Temple. While at the temple, Chang Ning confronts the leader, Qiu Yuanfeng.

He boldly accuses Qiu of being the masked killer involved in the Chang clan massacre, noting that the distinct sandalwood fragrance of the "Piaomiao" incense on Qiu’s robes matches the scent left by the assassins. Qiu Yuanfeng dismisses the accusation, arguing that the incense is widely used and that he was away from the temple during the attack. The situation is finally diffused when Cai Zhao's parents, Cai Pingchun and Xiaofeng, return with news from their investigation.

They reveal that the "Tiangang Disha Camp" of the demon sect was the true perpetrator and that the sect is now preparing to target the Six Sects. Under this evidence, Jiang Ning confesses that he is the illegitimate son of Chang Haosheng and a village woman, raised by the family steward. He had hoped to assume the identity of the true heir to seek revenge.

Qi Yunke decides to let both men stay, with Jiang Ning working in the herb gardens. Despite the temporary peace, interpersonal friction remains. Qi Lingbo mockingly reminds Cai Zhao of her betrothal to Zhou Yuqi of Peiqiong Manor, warning her to stay away from Chang Ning. When Zhou Yuqi arrives with Min Xinrou, he brings lavish gifts, including a Warm Jade Qilin intended to help Chang Ning’s internal cultivation.

However, Chang Ning’s jealousy flares up, and he frostily rejects the gift. Meanwhile, the group witnesses the leader of the Siqi Sect, Yang Heying, harshly rebuking his daughter Yang Xiaolan for refusing an advantageous marriage to the Guangtian Sect. Driven by curiosity, Cai Zhao later follows Chang Ning into the wine cellar, where she glimpses a mysterious old woman.

Chang Ning claims he was merely looking for a jar of "Qingfeng Zui" wine, but the incident lingers in Cai Zhao’s mind. Her father later mentions that her aunt, Cai Pingshu, used to frequent that cellar with her friends Wu Yuanying and Luo Yuanrong, adding another layer of mystery to the woman’s identity. The sect leaders eventually gather for a grand memorial service to honor the Beichen Founder.

In a display of prowess, the leaders take turns striking a massive bell cast from underwater iron. Qiu Yuanfeng attempts to outshine the others by leaving a deep palm print on the bell using his "one palm, twelve breaths" technique. However, Qi Yunke humbles him by using the Beichen internal heart method to effortlessly erase the marks, demonstrating a level of mastery that leaves the crowd in awe.

The ceremony is interrupted when Cai Zhao identifies the mysterious woman from the cellar as Luo Yuanrong, a former disciple of Master Canghuan. Luo Yuanrong stuns the assembly by bringing forth Wu Yuanying, a legendary hero who is now a blind and paralyzed shell of his former self. She courageously exposes the truth about the war ten years ago, accusing Qiu Yuanfeng of abandoning his senior brother to the enemy out of greed and cowardice.

She reveals she spent a year searching the demon sect’s Youming Path before finally rescuing Wu from the horrific tortures of the Eight-Claw Prison. As Qiu Yuanfeng desperately tries to brand her a spy, a sudden and lethal volley of "Thunderstorm" poison needles rains down on the gathered disciples, turning the memorial into a scene of terror.
