Cai Zhao and Chang Ning’s covert search in the Library nearly ends in disaster when they are almost discovered by the observant Song Yuzhi. Afterward, Cai Zhao grows suspicious, questioning if Chang Ning has been using her to locate Yin Dai’s handbook. In response, Chang Ning solemnly reveals the secret within: the "Great Demonic Disintegration Art."

This forbidden technique, which Cai Pingshu used to kill the demon Nie Hengcheng, grants immense power but causes the user’s meridians to rupture, leading to a slow and agonizing death. Cai Zhao is left haunted by the realization that her aunt sacrificed herself, and she wonders why the 19th-generation handbook was the only one missing from the sect's records. The next day, Cai Zhao comforts her junior sister, Yang Xiaolan, who is discouraged by her slow progress in martial arts.

Later, Cai Zhao questions Lei Xiuming about the forbidden art. Though visibly rattled, he feigns ignorance but gives her a calming pouch for Chang Ning. Tensions rise further when Song Yuzhi confronts Chang Ning about his whereabouts, having found calming powder in the Library. Cai Zhao quickly provides an alibi, claiming she was searching for late-night snack recipes and accidentally spilled the powder.

To uncover the truth hidden within the waterways of the Double Lotus Palace, Cai Zhao and Chang Ning hatch a plan for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Cai Zhao subtly encourages a senior disciple to buy cheap Xuan paper for the lanterns. Unbeknownst to him, this paper is made from Qingtan, which attracts toxic Guming Moths. During the celebration, the moths descend, causing mass panic and hallucinations.

Seizing the chaos, Chang Ning fakes a mental breakdown, attacking Qi Lingbo while raving about avenging the Chang clan. Lei Xiuming watches the scene with indifference, believing the arrogant Qi Lingbo could benefit from a little suffering. As Cai Zhao pretends to lead the "mad" Chang Ning away, they are intercepted by Yin Sulian’s formidable servant, Nanny Mao. Despite a thorough search, the expert nanny finds nothing on Cai Zhao.

The handbook had already been secured with the help of Yang Xiaolan; during a staged fall into the lake, the book was hidden beneath the water. Once retrieved, the text confirms their darkest fears: Yin Dai forced Cai Pingshu to master the suicidal art to save the six sects. Upon learning of the discovery, Qi Yunke chooses to burn the handbook to bury the shameful past and maintain peace.

However, Chang Ning has already committed the technique to memory, fueled by his thirst for revenge. When Yin Sulian and Song Yuzhi later go to the hiding spot, they are enraged to find the book gone. Meanwhile, a devastated Cai Zhao confronts Qi Yunke, asking why he didn't save her aunt. He can only admit his helplessness at the time. In the days following, Qi Lingbo continues to bully Cai Zhao out of jealousy over Song Yuzhi.

Song intervenes, reminding Lingbo that the sect owes Cai Zhao a debt of gratitude, which only further incenses the young woman. Fearing Chang Ning might follow her aunt's path, Cai Zhao tearfully recounts the horror of Cai Pingshu's final thirteen years of agony, which ended when she was only thirty. Moved by her grief, Chang Ning swears a solemn oath never to use the Disintegration art.

Despite the loss of the physical handbook, Yin Sulian remains obsessed with her plan to have Qi Lingbo marry Song Yuzhi so he can inherit the sect and her father’s legacy. A brief moment of peace returns when Chang Ning prepares wontons for Cai Zhao that taste exactly like her aunt’s. Touched, she suggests they eventually retire to Luoying Valley to open a shop together.

However, this dream is shattered when an old steward from the Chang clan arrives at the Dusk Palace with a young man named Jiang Ning. The steward claims that this newcomer is the true Chang Ning, throwing the identity of Cai Zhao's companion into immediate question.
