After narrowly escaping Nie Zhe’s ambush by jumping off a cliff, Cai Zhao and Mu Qingyan managed to find safety. However, Cai Zhao soon deduced that the recent ordeal had been orchestrated by Mu Qingyan as part of a calculated plan. Confronted with her suspicions, Mu Qingyan admitted that he was indeed practicing the forbidden Ziwei Method and required the Jade Sunflower to complete his cultivation.

He explained that his acquisition of the cultivation medium had been accidental, but Cai Zhao, furious at his deception, vowed to prevent him from obtaining the relic. Their dispute was interrupted by Nie Zhe’s trackers, but they were rescued just in time by an old man named Shi Tieqiao, who recognized Cai Zhao as the niece of his old friend, Cai Pingshu. Shi Tieqiao led them to a secluded mountain retreat that mirrored the landscape of Luoying Valley.

During their stay, Mu Qingyan questioned why the Shi brothers had not intervened when the Chang clan was slaughtered. Shi Tieqiao explained that Cai Pingshu had once warned Chang Haosheng to either build a massive army or vanish entirely like they had. Chang Haosheng’s decision to remain only "half-retired" had left his clan vulnerable as their power waned over the years.

As Cai Zhao pressed for information about the Jade Sunflower, Mu Qingyan suddenly collapsed, his body finally succumbing to the poison he had been suppressing. When Mu Qingyan regained consciousness, he tried to downplay his condition, claiming his internal energy and the medicine Cai Zhao had previously brought from the Hanhai Mountains would sustain him. Cai Zhao saw through his bravado, reminding him that his pulse had nearly vanished the night before.

She personally fed him a bitter detox decoction known to suppress even corpse poison. Later, while Cai Zhao prepared "Smiley" pastries in the kitchen, the scent attracted Shi Tiefeng. The second brother, impressed by her skill, reminisced about Pingshu’s own cooking and accidentally let slip that the Jade Sunflower had been entrusted to a former member of the Li Sect who was a close friend of Pingshu.

Elsewhere, Qi Lingbo approached her father, Qi Yunke, to officially break off her engagement to Song Yuzhi. She described him as a cold and narrow-minded man, preferring to maintain only their bond as fellow disciples. Her father agreed to the request, though he remained preoccupied with the hunt for Nie Zhe and the search for the missing Cai Zhao.

Meanwhile, Dalou brought ginger soup to Lady Yin, who lamented that she had never possessed her daughter's courage to move on from the past. Back at the retreat, Mu Qingyan and Cai Zhao analyzed the ambushers' techniques. They suspected the six sects were involved, noting that the attackers utilized a sword formation based on the Big Dipper footwork, similar to the Xuantian Sword Formation. During a farewell dinner, Shi Tieqiao shared the history of the Jade Sunflower.

He revealed that Lu Chengnan had once fled to Chang Fort with Mu Zhengming’s help. Before dying, Lu Chengnan gave the relic to Pingshu, explaining that his master had been using it to drain the life force and inner power of others to fuel the Ziwei Method, leaving behind only desiccated corpses. Lu Chengnan had stolen the relic to stop his master’s descent into madness and the slaughter of his fellow disciples.

Although the relic was supposedly left with Pingshu, Cai Zhao realized she had never seen it during her years with her aunt. The evening was interrupted when the third Shi brother, Guo Zigui, woke from a decades-long coma. Mistaking Cai Zhao for Pingshu, the frail man asked about the state of their sect. To comfort him, Cai Zhao lied, claiming Pingshu was merely resting in Luoying Valley and describing a peaceful, lively sect.

The tragic truth of Guo’s life then emerged: he was a junior disciple who had grown up with Cai Zhao’s mother. During a past raid on the Li Sect, he had been captured in the Eight-Claw Prison and brutally tortured. Despite his resilience, he was eventually drugged into signing a surrender letter. Yin Dai, the sect leader, had slandered him as a coward and refused to rescue him, even after the Guo family offered their entire fortune.

Only Pingshu had been brave enough to save him, though he was left permanently broken. Sensing his end, Guo Zigui gave Cai Zhao his family’s last heirlooms to serve as a dowry for her mother. That night, he passed away peacefully, dreaming of a final, happy reunion with his parents and old friends.
