Fan Xingjia focused his efforts on extracting the essence of the Night Orchid using a vapor distillation technique he learned from Wang Yuanjing, creating a refined essence to serve as a permanent replacement for the plant in treating Song Yuzhi’s injuries. Nearby, Cai Zhao prepared a medicinal tea for Granny Jiang, which successfully neutralized the toxins in her body and allowed the villagers to finally plan their departure from the Blood Marsh Forest.

As they prepared to leave, Cai Zhao asked the elderly woman about the past, specifically how Mu Zhengyang had apologized to her aunt, Cai Pingshu. Granny Jiang recalled that while they had eventually reconciled after Pingshu vented her anger, they later separated permanently after her aunt discovered his deceptions. Reflecting on her own heart, Cai Zhao realized that while she could not change what had happened, she had to move forward.

Mu Qingyan’s condition continued to worsen as the cultivation of the Ziwei Heart Scripture and lingering poisons took their toll on his body. Cai Zhao brought him the Night Orchid essence and pleaded with him to stop his cultivation of the dangerous scripture, warning that it would lead to his death within three years.

Mu Qingyan revealed that his father had been aware of the risks but felt bound to use the power to find the "Man in Black," the true culprit behind the deaths of his father and Master Chang. Cai Zhao admitted her deep regrets about their meeting, wondering if her life would have been simpler had she stayed in the Luoying Valley, yet she made a final offer: if he abandoned the Ziwei method, she would remain by his side.

That night, Cai Zhao burned the remaining Night Orchid to ensure the forbidden scripture could no longer be fueled. Mu Qingyan chose to honor their pact, abandoning the path of Ziwei and reclaiming their connection. The following morning, the villagers began their trek out of the Blood Marsh Forest. Because of Mu Qingyan’s controversial status as the leader of the Li Sect, he could not accompany Cai Zhao back to the Guangtian Sect.

Song Yuzhi insisted on this separation to avoid further scandal, reminding Mu Qingyan of the life-threatening whip punishment Cai Zhao had suffered for him a year prior. Upon reaching the Guangtian Sect, Cai Zhao and Song Yuzhi happened upon Yang Heying berating his daughter, Yang Xiaolan. He was furious that she refused to marry Song Xiuzhi or follow his orders to drug Xiuzhi to ensure their control over the sect.

Mu Qingyan soon appeared to confront Yang Heying about the "corpse slaves" near the sect, demanding to know if the Man in Black or Yu Huiyin was behind the experiments. Yang Heying initially denied everything, but Yang Xiaolan, disgusted by her father’s cruelty, exposed his secrets. She revealed that six months ago, people had vanished near a secluded yard her father owned, which he later burned to destroy evidence, resulting in her mother's death.

Broken by his daughter's accusations and Mu Qingyan’s threats against his young son, Yang Heying confessed that a masked man had taught him how to create corpse slaves to frame Song Shijun and seize power, fueled by his long-standing resentment of the Guangtian Sect. The confrontation escalated when Qi Yunke and Song Xiuzhi arrived. Yang Heying tried to retract his confession, claiming Mu Qingyan had coerced him, but Cai Zhao dismantled his lies.

Yang Xiaolan further pointed out that the assassin who had attacked Song Shijun, Sha Tian’er, was not a real member of the Yellow Sand Gang but a trained plant. In the ensuing chaos, Yang Heying inadvertently implicated Song Xiuzhi, revealing that his actions were intended to secure the leadership for his son-in-law. While Xiuzhi maintained a facade of innocence, Yang Xiaolan broke her betrothal and returned his token.

The struggle for leadership culminated in a formal duel between the two brothers. Song Yuzhi, though weakened by poison and injuries, faced his elder brother according to sect custom. During the fight, Song Xiuzhi used hidden weapons to gain an unfair advantage and was declared the next leader. Although Qi Yunke was disappointed, he felt bound by tradition to accept the result for the sake of unity.

Amidst the tension, a different bond was formed; the second senior brother, Fengchi, who had risked his life for Qi Lingbo during their travels, proposed to her. With Cai Zhao and Song Yuzhi’s support, Qi Yunke gave his blessing, provided the marriage was approved by Lingbo’s mother. The next day, Song Yuzhi and Cai Zhao returned to Luoying Valley to care for Song Shijun.

The elder Song regained consciousness briefly, but he was delirious and could only cry out against his "unfilial son" before falling back into a coma. This confirmed Song Yuzhi’s suspicions about his brother’s treachery, and he vowed to train harder to eventually reclaim his father’s position. Meanwhile, Mu Qingyan made a final visit to Song Xiuzhi.

He realized that Xiuzhi was merely a pawn in the Man in Black’s scheme, having been manipulated by a fabricated letter from his late mother. Seeing that killing Xiuzhi would achieve little, Mu Qingyan let him live in his hollow power to serve as a distraction for the real enemy.

Back in the valley, Song Yuzhi was enjoying breakfast with the locals when Mu Qingyan arrived at Luoying Valley in a grand procession, carrying numerous treasures to formally propose marriage to Cai Zhao.
