Fearing Fu Yunnuo had uncovered her identity, Qiao Manman pretended to be clueless, claiming she had never left the Western Lin Kingdom. Fu Yunnuo comforted her, saying she need not worry. He had intentionally stayed silent in front of the emperor before, and he wouldn’t reveal her identity now—he would protect her no matter what. Qiao Manman was deeply moved by his words. Since they had known each other since childhood, she treated him as one of her own.

She even retrieved her treasured brocade box and gave it to Fu Yunnuo. The cloud pattern on the box was similar to the decoration on a kite he once made. She asked him to help open it. Fu Yunnuo gladly agreed and promised to find a way to help her leave the prince’s residence safely.

Back at the residence, Qiao Manman recalled how, on the day she was abducted, Fu Yunnuo had quietly told her that curing Fu Chengjin’s leg had brought danger upon her—and that leaving would be for Fu Chengjin’s own good. That thought haunted her. She had developed feelings for Fu Chengjin and didn’t want him to get hurt. Qiao Manman decided to meet Fu Chengjin and, after much deliberation, proposed a separation.

This way, she could hide her impersonation and make Fu Chengjin resent her, thus cutting off any emotional ties. When she brought it up, Fu Chengjin was shocked. He had thought Qiao Manman would be his lifelong confidante, his partner until old age. But now she was asking for a separation. Once she confirmed her decision again, Fu Chengjin was heartbroken and reluctantly agreed to raise the matter with the emperor after the birthday celebration.

In the following days, Fu Chengjin was consumed by the pain of abandonment. Jiutian was puzzled by Qiao Manman’s sudden proposal. But women’s hearts were hard to fathom—he simply couldn’t figure her out. On Qiao Manman’s side, she was equally heartbroken. Her feelings for Fu Chengjin ran deep—how could it not hurt to leave someone she loved so much? But since Fu Chengjin had coldly agreed, she believed he would follow through.

Her departure from the residence was now a matter of time. The emperor had appointed both Fu Chengjin and Fu Yunnuo to organize the birthday celebration. So, all details required joint discussion. Qiao Manman tried her best to perfect every detail. When she submitted the plan to the Imperial Consort, the latter rejected several parts. It was an awkward scene. Fu Chengjin firmly supported Qiao Manman’s proposals, saying they had been carefully prepared and discussed with him.

Even Fu Yunnuo backed the plan, adding that some suggestions had been his. The Imperial Consort, who had always favored Fu Yunnuo, relented upon hearing this and extended the planning deadline by ten days. In recent days, Qiao Manman deliberately avoided Fu Chengjin whenever she saw him approaching. Sometimes, Fu Chengjin would stop her to chat and ask why she was distancing herself. Qiao Manman stammered, unwilling to tell the truth—that she was leaving to protect him.

Fu Yunnuo also sought chances to meet with Qiao Manman again, asking if she had made up her mind to leave with him after the birthday celebration. He reminded her that she had promised in childhood to become his wife and asked if she had forgotten. Qiao Manman awkwardly replied that it was merely a childish joke, and now their identities were too different—such promises were no longer appropriate.
