After Lu Xun's forceful kiss, Lin Chen confronted him, asking if it was his first confession. Lu Xun stated that it was not. Lin Chen pressed him, questioning how he could kiss her yet claim it wasn't his first confession, to which Lu Xun confirmed. Lin Chen became visibly angry. Soon after, Meng Jiao, who had stumbled earlier, quickly recovered and joined Lin Chen in confronting the two young men.
Later, Lu Xun's friend noted that both Meng Jiao and "Little Lin" (Lin Chen) did not seem to love them. He prompted Lu Xun to recall why Lin Chen was angry, reminding him that Lu Xun had stated it wasn't his first confession, although it was true. The friend pointed out that Lin Chen hitting Lu Xun after the kiss indicated she did not love him.
The friend then lamented his own situation, explaining that Meng Jiao was angry with him because he had accidentally kissed her the previous day and then confusedly tried to explain it away. Convinced Lin Chen now hated him, Lu Xun hesitated to ask her directly. His friend encouraged him to be brave, also reminding him of the special engagement episode scheduled for that night.
Lu Xun, spurred on, got up to go after Lin Chen, but his friend called out, asking where he was going. Meng Jiao intervened, stating that Lin Chen had a packed schedule and needed to return to the university for her final exams. Lu Xun offered to drive them, but Meng Jiao politely declined, emphasizing their professional relationship. She asserted that they were merely business associates and should maintain a private distance.
When Lu Xun mentioned their engagement that evening, Meng Jiao assured him that they would uphold all contractual obligations and "put on this act" until the contract concluded. As Lin Chen and Meng Jiao drove away, Lin Chen fumed, complaining that no one from the Lu family was good. Meng Jiao teasingly brought up Lu Feng.
Meng Jiao then instructed Lin Chen to avoid being recognized by classmates at the university and to come out immediately after her exam, as they had filming scheduled for the evening. Lin Chen acknowledged the instructions. At the engagement press conference for Lu Xun and Lin Chen, Lu Xun's manager informed him that he needed to perform well, suggesting he still had a chance with Lin Chen. Lu Xun declared his intention to confess.
His friend, however, cynically observed that Lu Xun was deliberately choosing to confess in front of many people, believing that Lin Chen wouldn't publicly reject him, thus giving him another chance. The friend branded Lu Xun a "scum." Suddenly, Lu Xun was accosted by an unidentified man who lured him into a hotel room. Inside, the man tried to ply Lu Xun with drugged wine, which Lu Xun cautiously refused.
After Lu Xun tried to call security, the man revealed that Lin Chen was trapped in the university's cold storage, where humans could only survive at -20°C for about 20 minutes. He then laid out his plan: Lu Xun would be drugged with a sedative, and upon waking, framed for molesting a woman named Liu Yan. The man presented Lu Xun with two choices: accept the charges or let Lin Chen die.
He taunted Lu Xun to sacrifice himself, but Lu Xun retorted that he would not make the choice the man wanted him to. The man challenged Lu Xun's ability to save Lin Chen in time, but after he left, Lu Xun successfully escaped. Having escaped, Lu Xun immediately called his assistant, urgently instructing them to send security to the university's freezer, explaining that Lin Chen was locked inside. At the university, the cold storage temperature displayed -19°C.
Lu Xun arrived, demanding the keys. Someone pointed him towards Lin Chen's location at the very end of the storage unit. As Lu Xun tried to force his way in, staff members restrained him, threatening to call the police. Lu Xun desperately called out Lin Chen's name. Inside, Lin Chen was shivering before she collapsed, spotting someone as she fell.
