Be My Cat Episode 5 Recap
> Be My Cat Recap
Lady Yu insisted that her maid, Cui Qiao, had seen cat ears on Mo Xiuran, and she called upon a Taoist priest to cast a spell to reveal the cat's true form if the Mo Master didn't believe her. Before the Taoist priest could act, Mo Xiuran emerged, asking if they were looking for him. Seeing Mo Xiuran in human form, Lady Yu looked visibly disappointed.
Mo Xiuran then accused Lady Yu of poisoning his wine at the banquet and preparing a kitten to frame him with tales of demonic creatures. He boasted that he was smart enough to spot the ruse at once, though Little Mint silently observed how weak he had been just moments before. He expressed surprise that Lady Yu was the mastermind and questioned her prejudice against him.
Lady Yu retorted, suggesting his cat ears were the reason, and Cui Qiao swore that she indeed saw Young General Mo Xiuran with cat ears. Mo Xiuran dismissed it as a prank, explaining that he merely wore a fun accessory when drunk and offered it to Lady Yu to try on. When Mo Master proposed testing the wine for a fair judgment, Little Mint discreetly brought forward a different wine jug, claiming it was the one Cui Qiao had swapped.
Lady Yu furiously accused Little Mint of fabricating the story, but the cook corroborated Little Mint’s account of the porcelain pot being replaced with a jade pot. Lady Yu then accused Little Mint and the cook of colluding, to which Little Mint cleverly countered that if Lady Yu's people could testify against Mo Xiuran, then her people could testify against Cui Qiao. Yu Ting, Mo Xiuran's second uncle, examined the wine.
He confirmed it contained medicinal herbs such as castor beans, Pinellia ternata, and mildly toxic Datura flowers, which could cause skin redness, agitation, dizziness, and hysteria. The Taoist priest, in a moment of panic, confessed that it was only Xinghuang Powder, meant to reveal a demon, not a drug, and admitted that Lady Yu had ordered him to do it. Lady Yu, cornered, knelt and claimed she had been misled by the Taoist priest.
However, she persisted in her accusations against Mo Xiuran, reminding everyone that he had changed since his wedding and that cat noises were often heard in the east court. She recounted that her maid, Xiao Lian, had seen Mo Xiuran enter Little Mint's room, only for his clothes and a cat to be found inside later. Mo Xiuran openly admitted to entering Little Mint's room, defending her as his top maid.
He then shrewdly exposed Xiao Lian as Lady Yu's spy, highlighting that if Xiao Lian belonged to the east court, she should not have been reporting to Lady Yu. He thought to himself that this was a clever move, killing two birds with one stone. Mo Xiuran declared firmly that as the Young General of Tian Li State, he had faced countless battles without fear of death and disdained spending his time on petty schemes with villains.
Hearing this, Mo Master understood his son's stance and ordered the guards to escort the Taoist priest and Lady Yu's maid away. Mo Yuji pleaded with his father to be merciful to his mother, who must have been misled into doing such a ridiculous thing, asking him to consider her years of service to the Mo Mansion. Mo Master ordered Lady Yu to be confined to the west court for reflection, forbidding her from leaving without his permission.
Mo Xiuran later thanked Yu Ting for his help. Yu Ting shrugged it off, adding that Lady Yu's usual misbehavior deserved consequences. Meanwhile, Nan Fei De, the Prince of Sunset City, still fuming over a previous slight, wanted to publicly embarrass Mo Xiuran but was restrained by his sister, Princess Nan Pingwan.
She explained to her impulsive brother that Tian Li State deliberately chose the Mo Mansion for the contract signing to challenge Sunset City using Mo Xiuran, not due to the emperor's illness. She reminded him that their mission was not to fight but to secure the contract, warning him not to ruin their father's plan with his recklessness, especially after the fake Red Soul Orb incident. Mo Xiuran and Little Mint continued their bickering.
Little Mint claimed credit for Mo Xiuran's timely transformation back to human form, attributing it to the cat, Little Lucky, and the mint honey she made. She recalled sensing the Datura flower poison on the cat and feeding him peppermint and honey to detoxify him. Mo Xiuran, however, attributed his vulnerability to his body being too weak to resist the Xinghuang Powder. He then playfully accused Little Mint of worrying about him, which she vehemently denied.
Mo Xiuran then boasted that everything that happened was part of his plan, using himself as a decoy to expose his enemies. At this point, Luo Feng arrived, stating he was there to say goodbye. Little Mint, hearing Mo Xiuran's claim that "everything was under my control," sarcastically pointed out that he couldn't even control his own subordinate.
Luo Feng explained to Mo Xiuran that while he respected the Young General's body and dignity, he would not serve Mo Xiuran because he was not his true master. Since the real Young General was no longer present, there was no need for him to stay. Mo Xiuran offered to see him off and took him to a place known for its delicious Goubuli buns.
There, Luo Feng was reminded of his first encounter with the original Young General, who, seeing a young Luo Feng as a starving beggar giving his only bun to another child, had offered him a whole basket of buns and invited him to follow him. Mo Xiuran then revealed that he possessed all of the Young General's memories, implying they were, to some extent, one person.
He explained that this was why he tolerated Luo Feng, even after an assassination attempt. Luo Feng wondered if this was the Young General's second life bestowed by God. Mo Xiuran then offered Luo Feng money and healing medication, and Luo Feng, moved, decided to stay and serve him wholeheartedly. Little Mint was astonished by Luo Feng's sudden change of heart, though Mo Xiuran claimed it was all part of his plan.
Little Mint then proposed leaving Little Lucky at Bu Ou's fish shop. Mo Xiuran immediately objected, asserting his authority as the prince of Yu Li Planet, responsible for 100,000 cats, and the general of Tian Li State, leading 100,000 soldiers, claiming even a small kitten fell under his command. Little Mint challenged him, stating that she was the master for now.
They decided to settle their dispute with a game of rock-paper-scissors, with the winner being the master for three days. Mo Xiuran, unfamiliar with the earthly principle that "all is fair in war," lost all three rounds, to Little Mint's delight. Mo Xiuran accused her of cheating, but she retorted that he should know the saying. He grudgingly accepted his defeat, fearing the merciless torture she would inflict over the next three days.
As her master for three days, Little Mint made Mo Xiuran dance for her, which he performed with a unique charm from Yu Li Planet. She then took him shopping and to a gambling den, where she used his sensitive cat-like hearing to win a game of dice. Despite his annoyance and determination to reclaim his authority, Mo Xiuran found himself inadvertently charmed when Little Mint appeared wearing a white fox fur coat.
He inwardly attributed this momentary attraction to the fur itself and promptly ordered her to take it off. Shortly after, Mo Yuji arrived with a sable cloak, explaining it was an apology for his mother's actions. Little Mint admired the luxurious cloak, while Mo Xiuran, annoyed by Mo Yuji's display of wealth, ordered Little Mint to put it on him.
Observing her in the cloak, he concluded that without the fur, she looked ordinary and was certain he wouldn't be attracted to her. To his chagrin, Little Mint then made "him" wear the cloak, remarking how well it suited him. Mo Xiuran, still suspicious, questioned if Mo Yuji's apology was truly for him or a plea for Lady Yu. Mo Yuji sincerely apologized again, insisting he had no desire to compete with Mo Xiuran.
Little Mint intervened, reminding Mo Xiuran of their bet, and made him reluctantly shake hands with Mo Yuji. Mo Master summoned both Mo Xiuran and Mo Yuji, expressing his satisfaction that Mo Xiuran bore no ill will towards Mo Yuji for Lady Yu's schemes, emphasizing the importance of brotherly unity during these critical times. He entrusted them with the peace agreement, drafted by the Ministry of Rites, which required the signatures of Princess Nan Pingwan and Prince Nan Fei De.
Mo Master believed Nan Pingwan would readily sign, but cautioned that Nan Fei De would be the more challenging of the two. Meanwhile, Princess Nan Pingwan sought out Little Mint, curious about the rumors surrounding Mo Xiuran. She inquired about his severe injury, the "warding-off" wedding where the lady supposedly fled, and whether he still harbored feelings for his runaway bride.
Little Mint confirmed the rumors and assured the Princess that Mo Xiuran would not pine for other girls, explaining that he believed himself to be so perfect that no woman could ever be compatible with him, often proclaiming, "If outstanding is a disease, then I am severely ill and have no cure for it. I was born to be alone."
Princess Nan Pingwan, far from being discouraged, found his arrogance and unruliness admirable, declaring that only such a proud and honorable man was worthy of her affection. Little Mint internally pitied the Princess's naivety. Suddenly, a servant rushed in with news that Prince Nan Fei De had collapsed. Yu Ting examined him, noting his strange symptoms: a red face, short breath, freezing and sweating hands and feet, yet no external injuries.
He diagnosed it as a fainting spell caused by shock, rather than poison, with his vitality greatly injured and toxins destroying his yang energy. Princess Nan Pingwan was furious and immediately demanded to know where Nan Fei De had been. His attendant revealed that the Prince had visited a brothel called Wind Snow with the Red Soul Orb the previous night.
After dismissing his attendants, screams were heard from inside Linshui Pavilion, and Nan Fei De was found unconscious on the floor with the Red Soul Orb rolling nearby. The Princess, along with Mo Xiuran and Little Mint, hurried to Wind Snow to investigate.
After questioning the two women who served Nan Fei De and confirming their accounts with other staff, Little Mint observed the scene within Linshui Pavilion, including the footprints, and concluded that there must have been a fourth person present that night, besides Nan Fei De and the Pipa Ladies.
