Wu Xie and Fatty were speaking in their room when they heard a disturbance outside the door. Exchanging glances, they collaborated to apprehend the late-night intruder. Upon removing the person's mask, Wu Xie was surprised to find it was the same individual who had asked him for directions at the spiritual retreat earlier that day. Wu Xie and Fatty became increasingly apprehensive, uncertain how many different groups were now present at the retreat.

They placed the subdued person into a sack and intended to discreetly remove him late at night. Suddenly, they discovered the entire spiritual retreat completely deserted. Wu Xie and Fatty were struck with a chilling realization. Despite the place being crowded with people during the day, it was now vast and empty. Even a covert departure would have likely generated some sound or visible signs. Fatty, maintaining his characteristic humor, speculated whether the people had been captured or had perished.

As they pondered this mystery, the person in the sack regained consciousness. Seeing the deserted environment, he became visibly terrified and trembling, claiming darkness was falling and they would soon die. Wu Xie and Fatty, witnessing his convincing fear, were both partly persuaded and skeptical; how could so many people disappear instantaneously? Nevertheless, they decided to heed his warning and began building a fire to provide warmth in the room. Soon after, sounds emanated from outside the door.

A howling wind swept through the courtyard. After a prolonged period, the noise abruptly ceased. Wu Xie cautiously peered out and observed a large number of insects starting to stream into the room. The person from the sack bolted out the door in a panic. Wu Xie and Fatty frantically searched for objects to barricade the door, but the insects appeared to have remarkably strong mandibles, quickly chewing the entire door panel into fragments.

Fatty and Wu Xie were forced to flee outside to escape. The swarming insects pursued them relentlessly, inflicting bites on Fatty's hands. Wu Xie suddenly recalled that his blood might possess repellent properties. He motioned with his hand, allowing drops of his blood to disperse in the air. Although his blood did repel the insects to a limited extent, it was not sufficient to deter the immense swarm, which continued to encircle them frantically.

Fatty and Wu Xie ran until they reached Zhang Qiling's statue. The insects seemed particularly averse to the statue, merely hovering above it. Wu Xie and Fatty, shivering intensely from the cold, were trapped near the statue. They believed their end was imminent. Fatty could not help but voice his final thoughts, expressing profound gratitude for having Wu Xie and Little Brother as friends. Wu Xie began to feel disoriented and struggled to process his thoughts.

He intensely focused on his memories, feeling as though he were trapped within a hallucination. Recognizing this familiar sensation, he made a deliberate effort to clear his mind. After an indeterminate period, Wu Xie opened his eyes and found himself lying in the same room they had been in the previous night. Across from him were Zhang Haike and Zhang Haixing. Zhang Haixing was sealing something into a bell, indicating this bell had been responsible for inducing Wu Xie's illusion.

Zhang Haixing explained that this hexagonal bell was a Zhang family artifact crafted from a special meteorite bronze, capable of creating incredibly realistic hallucinations. She admitted it was normally kept sealed because using it casually was very dangerous. This incident was presented as a test, merely a small trial to assess if Wu Xie could handle it.

As anticipated, Wu Xie displayed an exceptional nature, and although Fatty was less capable, his presence provided Wu Xie with a sense of inner peace, thus allowing Fatty to also pass the assessment. This was identified as the second of three tests the Zhang family typically administered to determine someone's suitability to confront the Night King. Wu Xie expressed his displeasure with what they termed a "test."

Shortly after Zhang Haike departed, representatives from Anjing Company, including Mr. Feng, invited them into a room to view a video recorded by an expedition team years ago. They explained that their research into "Night King Devours The Sky" had commenced approximately eighty years prior. A century before that, renowned figures Hicklefort and William Boulogne had led expeditions into Mosang and uncovered clues about the Night King within ancient city records.

These records described a peculiar, ancient structure situated deep within the snowy mountains, potentially serving as an entrance to a city where the legendary Night King was said to be active. Anjing Company had dispatched several teams in an effort to locate this city. Most of these teams disappeared, but one team, consisting of fifteen seasoned special forces veterans, managed to leave behind a video recording.

The video documented the team encountering a rapidly moving golden sphere or mass of flesh that swiftly annihilated them. A second team sent on a rescue mission discovered their remains frozen deep within the ice, appearing as though they had been severely mangled or chewed by a gigantic creature. Among the remains, they found a securely locked safe. Inside the safe was a decaying mass of flesh.

Anjing Company's research concluded that this was a biological organism, perhaps an organ belonging to the Night King, and likely the entity that had attacked the team. They discovered that substances within this decaying mass possessed significant medicinal properties, promoting rapid cell repair and even influencing DNA structure, potentially offering a way to eliminate diseases. However, the beneficial substances within the decayed mass rapidly degraded. To advance their research, they needed a "living" Night King.

Aware of the Zhang family's historical involvement with the Night King, Anjing Company sought to establish cooperation. Mr. Feng knew that the key to defeating the Night King lay with the Zhang family's Heavenly Staff, which was hidden in a secret location accessible only with three special keys. He also knew that Zhang Haike himself did not possess the Heavenly Staff or any of the keys, while Anjing Company did possess one of the keys, hidden in Dejia.

Therefore, attending this meeting was necessary to exchange information and potentially form a collaboration. Wu Xie was identified as crucial for finding the remaining keys, although the precise reason for this remained unclear to everyone involved, described like holding a "blind card." The strategy necessitated remaining in Dejia to locate the other two keys before searching for the Heavenly Staff to confront the Night King.

Before the larger meeting with Anjing Company, Wu Xie and Fatty discussed the situation in private. Fatty voiced suspicion regarding Zhang Haike's motivations and the purpose of the testing. Wu Xie reasoned that regardless of which party they aligned with, they would likely become entangled, so it was more advantageous not to antagonize anyone and instead use the meeting to gather intelligence. He specifically wondered if Yu Da, whose scroll he sought, might represent another independent force.

They decided to attend the meeting, initially remain silent, observe the interactions and dynamics, and be prepared to cause a disruption and withdraw if the situation became unfavorable for them. Fatty, confident in his ability to create chaos when needed, readily agreed.
