Sha Pingwei came to urge Yuan Buqu to attend the palace banquet. After this banquet, he would be appointed as the deputy general and later replace Yuan Buqu to guard the border. Yuan Buqu would stay in the capital for official duties. Du Bingyan was very happy about this, as she wouldn't have to worry about Yuan Buqu getting hurt again. Sha Pingwei invited Du Bingyan to join them in the palace, but Du Bingyan wasn't qualified to attend palace banquets. Yuan Buqu decided to have Du Bingyan disguise herself as a maid and join them in the palace.

During the banquet, the Queen praised Yuan Buqu for his courageous victories in battle and prepared rewards for him. She decided to appoint Yuan Buqu as a marquis, marrying Princess Chang Ping. The princess publicly stated that she wanted to marry Sha Pingwei, but the Queen insisted that a princess couldn't marry an unknown soldier, and Sha Pingwei was just a subordinate of Yuan Buqu. The Queen presented wedding attire and stated that if Yuan Buqu accepted it, he would become a highly respected marquis in the future. Otherwise, he could drink the poisoned wine she provided.

Yuan Buqu resisted, expressing his unwillingness to marry the princess and mentioning that he had just married a new wife. Yuan Buqu was not willing to divorce his wife and marry again, determined to drink the poisoned wine. Du Bingyan appeared, knocking over the poisoned wine. The Queen learned that Du Bingyan was Yuan Buqu's new wife and asked her to persuade Yuan Buqu. Du Bingyan stated that they had sworn never to let each other down. After the princess left, the Queen explained to her attendants the purpose of today's actions. The poisoned wine given to Yuan Buqu was not real; it was a test to explore the feelings between Princess Chang Ping and Sha Pingwei. The Queen also wanted to know if Yuan Buqu would abandon his old wife for the sake of his career.

To thank Du Bingyan for her help, Li Yuhu wanted to personally embroider a forehead cloth as a wedding gift but, lacking skills, she had Xiao Xi help to complete it. Qi Tianlei sent a message that Du Bingyan and Yuan Buqu had been imprisoned in the capital for refusing the marriage. They decided to go to the capital immediately to rescue the couple.

Qi Tianlei, Li Yuhu, and the couple Liu Ruoqian arrived in the capital. Although Princess Chang Ping had sought the Emperor's intervention, he knew the Queen was acting for the good of her daughter and refused to interfere. Qi Tianlei suggested finding a way to visit Yuan Buqu and Du Bingyan in prison, as only they knew the truth. Learning that only the Emperor and Queen's special orders and tokens could allow them into the prison, Li Yuhu proposed that the princess steal a token.

Princess Chang Ping found a token in the Queen's bedroom and overheard some old stories. In the past, the Queen's beloved gave her a golden lotus made of gold leaf. Believing she had found her true love, the Queen, against her parents' wishes, planned to elope with him. However, he never showed up. The Queen thought men were unfaithful, assuming that he left because she was going to be a palace selection candidate, defying the royal family. Now, the Queen didn't want her daughter to make the same mistake and was determined to find a reliable son-in-law.

After obtaining the token, Princess Chang Ping, accompanied by Li Yuhu and others, visited the prison to see Yuan Buqu and Du Bingyan. Du Bingyan was delighted to see Li Yuhu and learned about the embroidered headband, which she liked. Yuan Buqu, originally planning for a grand wedding, decided to marry Du Bingyan in the prison. Du Bingyan, wearing the headband given by Li Yuhu, and Yuan Buqu had their wedding ceremony in the prison.

Touched by the love between Yuan Buqu and Du Bingyan, Li Yuhu was moved to tears, expressing her determination to rescue them from prison. Princess Chang Ping shared the information she overheard about the Queen's past, mentioning a half-golden lotus as a clue. Du Bingyan remembered seeing the other half in Liu Ruoqian's possession and suggested informing him, believing that Liu Ruoqian would have a solution.

After hearing about this from Li Yuhu, Liu Ruoqian, along with the others, visited the grave of a senior disciple who had a love story similar to the Queen's. The senior disciple, on a mission to help the people during a plague, met a wealthy girl and secretly committed to her. Wanting to marry her after completing the mission, he crafted a golden lotus as a symbol of their love. However, fate intervened, and the girl's father wanted her to enter the palace for family prosperity. The two planned to elope and help people in need across the country.
