On the vast, sandy plains of Hanzhou, the Mu Ru and Helan armies clashed fiercely. Mu Ruhan Shan led the Mu Ru Iron Cavalry, setting up an array in a valley gorge, where they erected Mu Rushuo's armor on high ground to boost morale, as they awaited Tie Yuan and Shuofeng Heye.

Though the Mu Ru Iron Cavalry had lost their warhorses, their formidable longbows and sharp arrows proved superior, causing heavy losses for the Helan tribe in the initial engagement. Hanzhou soldiers charged Mu Ru's array but fell to their iron arrows. Mu Ruhan Shan even shot an arrow at Tie Yuan, which landed at his feet, prompting a cold smile from Tie Yuan as he broke it.

To force Mu Ruhan Shan's compromise, Tie Yuan ordered Muyun Yanshuang to be shackled to a wooden frame in front of the warring armies. Tie Yuan threatened that if Mu Ruhan Shan ordered arrows to be shot, Muyun Yanshuang would die, and her body, bearing Mu Ru black feather arrows, would be sent to Tianqi City, revealing that the Mu Ru clan had killed a Muyun imperial member on the battlefield.

Muyun Yanshuang, identifying herself as a princess, bravely commanded Mu Ruhan Shan to ignore her and order the archers to shoot, stating she was already a criminal and did not want to add to her sins. However, Mu Ruhan Shan hesitated, unwilling to incur the guilt of killing an imperial family member. Seeing Muyun Yanshuang in grave danger, he was forced to order his troops to abandon their bows and arrows.

As he did so, Muyun Yanshuang knelt, crying out that she was already a sinner whose sins could not be washed away. With the Mu Ru Iron Cavalry disarmed, Tie Yuan prepared to order the archers/crossbowmen of the Helan/Suqin tribe to fire. But Shuofeng Heye intervened, walking alone to Muyun Yanshuang. He removed his fox fur cloak and draped it over her, fulfilling a promise.

Tie Yuan furiously questioned Shuofeng Heye's actions, threatening to kill both him and Muyun Yanshuang if he dared to interfere. Shuofeng Heye drew his Kuafu weapon and rallied the Hanzhou soldiers, questioning if they truly wished to use a woman as a shield. Moved by his words, the Hanzhou soldiers shouted "fight to the death," abandoning their repeating crossbows/hidden weapons and charging forward with swords and blades, following Shuofeng Heye.

The two armies formally engaged in a bloody battle, with weapons clashing and many Hanzhou soldiers falling under Mu Ru Iron Cavalry's swords, leaving the battlefield strewn with corpses. Despite their heavy losses, Tie Yuan declared his determination to win. Mu Ruhan Shan held the Mu Ru Iron Cavalry's position and ordered his soldiers to clear the battlefield.

Shuofeng Heye performed a send-off for his fallen brothers, praying that the Panta Heavenly God would let their glory shine and stating that Hanzhou men would never retreat or flee. Shortly thereafter, the Helan tribe formed a new battle array and launched another attack. The two armies fiercely displayed their unique strengths, and the Mu Ru Iron Cavalry gradually began to struggle under the renewed assault.

Meanwhile, Mu Rushuo, having lost his horse, was on a long and difficult journey on foot back to Tianqi City, determined not to fall, as he believed Tianqi City and Emperor Mu Yunqin needed him. He resolved to return to protect the Emperor. In Tianqi City, Muyun Sheng, accompanied by Mu Ruhanjiang who insisted on protecting him, was summoned for an audience with Emperor Mu Yunqin. Wu Ruyi's attempts to block their entry were unsuccessful.

Emperor Mu Yunqin, who was painting, was surprised to see Mu Ruhanjiang. Mu Yunqin showed Muyun Sheng memorials from various provincial princes. After reading them, Muyun Sheng stated that the princes wanted his father to kill him, threatening to attack Tianqi City if he remained alive. Mu Yunqin, caught in a dilemma, asked Muyun Sheng what he should do, and Muyun Sheng responded that he too wanted to know his father's choice.

Mu Yunqin then called Mu Ruhanjiang over and sought his counsel. Mu Ruhanjiang, drawing on his experience of fighting to survive in the streets, advised the Emperor that some battles cannot be avoided or retreated from, and continuous concession would not lead to peace. This statement slightly enlightened Emperor Mu Yunqin. Emperor Mu Yunqin then requested a gift from Muyun Sheng: a portrait of his mother, Yin Rong.

Muyun Sheng admitted his memory of his mother was vague, but Mu Yunqin believed he could paint it. Muyun Sheng then requested to be excused and, before leaving, stated that with Mu Ruhanjiang protecting him, he wished for Yu Xinji to be reassigned as his personal guard. Meanwhile, Yu Xinji discovered Feng Tingchang tidying Muyun Sheng's room and, mistaking her actions for an attempt to set fire, prepared to kill her.

Feng Tingchang protested loudly, calling for Muyun Sheng, drawing his attention. Muyun Sheng learned from Feng Tingchang that she was merely tidying up; she had burned other paintings but had saved one – a back view/background painting of Pan Xi. Looking at this painting, Muyun Sheng recalled his past with Pan Xi. Though sad about her absence, he did not punish Feng Tingchang but instead told her to take the painting of Pan Xi and leave.

Feng Tingchang, a member of the Feather tribe, expressed her confusion regarding human expressions of love, questioning why Muyun Sheng would give away Pan Xi's only image if he truly loved her. Muyun Sheng explained that even though Pan Xi was dead, she lived forever in his heart and eyes, and he did not need external objects as a reminder. Feng Tingchang was deeply touched by his words.

Before her departure, she gave Muyun Sheng a "Condensing Heart Pill," a medicine from the Feather tribe, stating that it could temporarily restore his spiritual power and signifying that they were now even. That night, after consuming the Condensing Heart Pill, Muyun Sheng's spiritual power as a Charm tribe member greatly recovered. He instantly recalled his mother Yin Rong's appearance and successfully completed her portrait.

Concurrently, Mr. Mo, also known as Mo Yuchen, brought Ling Heqing to the Guanxing Pavilion, which was once the site of the now burned-down Huangji Jingtian Sect. Mo Yuchen revealed himself as the newly appointed Grand Priest of Observing Heaven. He informed Ling Heqing that the Huangji Jingtian Sect had completely fallen, and all astrologers in Kyushu had abandoned its methods, switching to his Feather tribe's ink calculations. He asserted that only the Feather tribe's ink calculations would be revered and trusted from that point forward, but Ling Heqing refused to cooperate with him.
