Gu Xicheng, after careful consideration, decided to have a serious talk with Nangong Liuli. He contacted her by phone, and they agreed to meet the following day. Gu Xicheng reassured Su Yanxi, telling her not to overthink things and to focus on her work, promising to handle everything else.
Su Yanxi accepted his words and said she would wait for him. Meanwhile, Fu Boya accompanied Nangong Liuli to retrieve her stored belongings. Nangong Liuli found most of the old items unnecessary, choosing to keep only one sentimental piece: a white dress. She cherished it, believing it was the eighteenth birthday gift Gu Xicheng had given her.
Remembering Gu Xicheng's invitation, she asked Fu Boya to find a quiet, special restaurant, mentioning she had an important guest for a significant conversation. Fu Boya immediately deduced she was referring to Gu Xicheng. At the office, He Jinxi worked diligently overtime on designs, drawing criticism from colleagues. Nangong Liuli then approached her and assigned her to go to a factory in the suburbs that afternoon to crosscheck material data for the White Moonlight design. Xixi was touched by his constant care. Later, while at work, Gu Xicheng anxiously awaited a call from Xixi. When his phone rang, it was not Xixi, but a message from Nangong Liuli confirming their meeting time and location: "Central Hotel's Memory Private Room at 7. I'll wait for you." Nangong Liuli arrived at the meeting wearing the white dress, believing it to be a treasured gift from Gu Xicheng for her eighteenth birthday. Gu Xicheng, however, clarified that the dress and a watch were not from him alone. He explained that they were gifts from the entire Astronomical Society, as she was the only female member at the time, and everyone contributed to buying her birthday presents.
He further explained that his actions, such as accompanying her on night shifts, were merely out of a sense of responsibility as the only male. He recounted an instance where a game led to him being chosen to accompany her, but that it was simply care from a fellow club member. He apologized if his actions had led her to misunderstand his feelings.
Nangong Liuli refused to believe him, insisting he did like her and asking if he had never truly liked her. Gu Xicheng firmly replied, "No." Nangong Liuli broke down, unable to accept that the belief in his affection, which had sustained her through her years abroad and motivated her return, was shattered. An'an noticed two concert tickets in the passenger seat's storage box and secretly hoped Situ would invite her, but he said nothing, leaving her disappointed. Situ, dropping An'an off, found himself unable to articulate his feelings, regretting his lack of courage. After finishing her work day, Su Yanxi took a ride-hailing car home. Midway, she realized she had gotten into the wrong car, as her booked driver was still at the original pickup location.
The driver suggested they both cancel their respective orders, offering her a discount on the fare to take her home, to which she agreed. Su Yanxi then dozed off. She woke up to find the car deviating from the agreed route. Panicked, she leaped out of the moving vehicle and called An'an for help. The driver, who was acting on someone's orders, told her not to make a fuss and that he would send her back soon.
An'an, receiving Xixi's frantic call, immediately contacted Situ. Situ then rushed to Gu Xicheng's hotel, where An'an explained that Xixi had been taken to the suburbs by a stranger, had escaped, and was now in danger. Ignoring Nangong Liuli's plea for him not to go and her confession that she was behind the incident, Gu Xicheng quickly joined An'an and Situ. Using Xixi's location, they sped to the scene. Gu Xicheng found Xixi, who was terrified.
He reassured her that he would come for her, just as he promised. As they reached her, Gu Xicheng shielded Xixi from a falling box, taking the impact on his back. They successfully rescued Xixi, with Situ threatening the driver with jail. Despite Nangong Liuli's confession and Fu Boya's empathy for her, she continued to sit on the ground, weeping, unable to come to terms with the reality of Gu Xicheng's rejection.
