Meanwhile, at a Huanzhen counter, a company representative addressed a disgruntled customer accusing Huanzhen of selling counterfeit products that caused her skin allergy.
The representative stated that while Huanzhen would take responsibility if at fault, they reserved the right to sue for bodily harm caused to one of their staff. The customer retorted that her actions were unintentional and that Huanzhen was to blame for the counterfeit goods, leading other customers to join in, demanding refunds.
Shi Liansen, whose clothes were stained from having shielded Lin Lu during the incident, was later seen with Lin Lu, who was concerned about his expensive attire and offered to wash it. He brushed off her worries, assuring her it wasn't her fault and that the company would thoroughly investigate the counterfeit scandal. Lin Lu spent a considerable amount of time meticulously cleaning his clothes.
Afterward, Shi Liansen told her not to put herself in harm's way again, while Lin Lu insisted she was not weak. She speculated that someone might have planted the counterfeit product. The situation escalated when Shi Liansen received an urgent call, informing him that the disgruntled customer had launched a live video, condemning Huanzhen and accusing him of intimidation. He immediately called for an emergency meeting. Meanwhile, hordes of consumers besieged the Huanzhen counter, aggressively demanding refunds.
Lin Lu, surrounded by the angry crowd, received a frantic call on her phone from her mother, worried about the scandal's impact on their family. Lin Lu tried to reassure her, even as the crowd grew more unruly. Shi Liansen arrived, instructing security to protect the staff and call the police if necessary, before personally escorting a distraught Lin Lu away from the escalating chaos.
As they left, they were swarmed by reporters who questioned Lin Lu about her involvement and Shi Liansen about the "Forest Couple" rumors. Lin Lu vehemently defended Huanzhen, accusing the media of fabricating stories. Shi Liansen reassured her, telling her not to be afraid because he was there for her. Lin Lu was deeply distressed that her family might be affected by the scandal.
Shi Liansen comforted her, urging her to calm down and promising to handle everything, even calling a hospital dean to strengthen security to prevent Lin Lu's family from being disturbed. Unbeknownst to them, Shi Liansen’s own father was orchestrating the entire counterfeit scandal to undermine Huanzhen.
His accomplice congratulated him, claiming they had "killed two birds with one stone" and he ordered them to instruct reporters to write more negative stories and find additional agitators to cause trouble, aiming to halt all of Huanzhen's sales. Despite this, Shi Liansen defied his father's implied command to cut ties with Lin Lu.
He instructed his staff to inform the board that slandering Lin Lu was unnecessary to save Huanzhen's reputation, explicitly stating that Lin Lu was not just their spokesperson, but also his girlfriend. Meanwhile, Yan Zichen approached Fang Qiao, who was waiting for a bus to deliver a homemade midnight snack to Shi Liansen at Huanzhen Group, where he was working tirelessly on the counterfeit issue.
Noticing her burned hand, Yan Zichen expressed concern and confronted her about her constant efforts to imitate Lin Lu to win Shi Liansen's affection, reminding her to stay true to herself and confessing his heartache at seeing her compromise her dignity. Fang Qiao, however, defiantly declared she would become Lin Lu if that was what Shi Liansen desired. Fang Qiao later had an emotional breakdown with Yan Zichen, admitting her exhaustion and overwhelming pain from unrequited love.
She questioned why she could never be enough for Shi Liansen compared to Lin Lu, lamenting how she had sacrificed her dignity and pride, yet he remained uninterested. She tearfully recalled seeing Shi Liansen smile gently at Lin Lu, a warmth she had never experienced from him. Yan Zichen comforted her, assuring her that in his eyes, she was better than anyone else.
Fang Qiao wished she had never met Shi Liansen, to which Yan Zichen replied he wouldn't want to go back in time for fear of not meeting her. Lin Lu, at the office, observed Shi Liansen working late, reviewing surveillance footage for clues. She brought him homemade food, feeling a sense of duty as Huanzhen's spokesperson to assist him.
Later, she found him asleep and admired his features, but became intensely self-conscious about her own appearance without makeup when he stirred, repeatedly telling him not to look at her face. Overhearing colleagues discuss Huanzhen Group's possible bankruptcy, Lin Lu began calling other companies, introducing herself as a Huanzhen makeup artist and inquiring about employment opportunities for her colleagues, only to be met with repeated rejections.
She then tried to call Ms. Zhou, the customer who initiated the rumors, hoping for an opportunity to explain that Huanzhen Group does not produce counterfeit products and to apologize. Ms. Zhou refused to listen, calling Lin Lu shameless and hanging up multiple times. Distracted by these calls, Lin Lu almost stepped into the path of an oncoming car while crossing the street. Finally, Fang Qiao met Shi Liansen at a nostalgic spot from their childhood.
She reminisced about their past, recalling his consistent rejections and her own persistent pursuit. She expressed her jealousy of Lin Lu’s effortless closeness to him and the profound impact Lin Lu had on his mood.
