Zhou Buwen was at the hospital playing chess with Shen Luo's grandfather, who was suffering from a cough. Zhou Buwen offered to get some tea leaves from Grandpa's room to brew him a soothing cup. While searching in Grandpa's cabinet, Zhou Buwen stumbled upon an ancient and exquisite silver box. Having been tasked by Boss An, a major antique dealer, to collect such boxes, he quickly took a photo of it with his phone.

Later that evening, Zhou Buwen reported to Boss An about his findings, but Boss An was still displeased with the overall collection progress and threatened to end their partnership. To pacify him, Zhou Buwen immediately presented the photograph of Grandpa's silver box. Meanwhile, on her way home, Shen Luo encountered the Village Chief. He anxiously handed her a wanted poster, cautioning her to be careful and vigilant of the escaped pervert depicted on it. Shen Luo, however, simply smiled dismissively.

Upon returning home, Shen Luo saw Wu Julan doing chores and realized he bore a striking resemblance to the fugitive on the poster. Terrified, she tried to get Wu Julan to leave, telling him he no longer needed to pay her back. However, Wu Julan refused, insisting he would work to repay his debt to her, proclaiming, "I said I'd work off my debt, so I must keep my word."

Shen Luo, frantic, secretly called the Village Chief for help, claiming Wu Julan was the pervert and urging him to send someone to save her. To her surprise, the Village Chief informed her that the pervert had already been apprehended. Shen Luo then realized it had all been a false alarm. Later, Wu Julan noticed the Angel's Trumpet flowers blooming in Shen Luo's small courtyard.

He remembered being poisoned by Angel's Trumpet when his spirit pearl was stolen, making him suspicious of Shen Luo's motives for planting them. Out of suspicion, he angrily burned the flowers. Shen Luo was furious and again threatened to drive him away. Despite their renewed conflict, Shen Luo still offered him tea and snacks as an apology for the earlier misunderstanding (regarding the wanted poster). He asked if she had put something in the tea.

She admitted to adding cassia seeds and explained that she planted the Angel's Trumpet not for nefarious purposes but because they are a medicinal ingredient that can be harvested and sold for housekeeping money. Wu Julan understood her intentions were harmless. The tension in Shen Luo’s house escalated when her grandfather and Jiang Yisheng arrived.

Jiang Yisheng, trying to clear his name with several nurses he had been flirting with at the hospital, carelessly said that the person Shen Luo liked was Wu Julan, and even urged them to go to her house to see that she now had a boyfriend. Grandpa, having overheard this, returned home to verify. He questioned Wu Julan, suspecting him of being a freeloader who was after his family's inheritance.

Grandpa advised Wu Julan to find a proper job and establish himself before thinking of marriage. Although distressed by her grandfather's assumptions, Shen Luo, knowing his limited time, decided to go along with the misunderstanding. She asked Wu Julan to pretend to be her boyfriend in front of Grandpa, to which Wu Julan surprisingly agreed. Wu Julan accompanied Shen Luo to the hospital to visit Grandpa.

Due to his unusually keen hearing, Wu Julan overheard Zhu Yiyang, a local contact, on the phone with Zhou Buwen, discussing the search for silver boxes. Wu Julan intercepted Zhu Yiyang, attacking him and demanding the silver box, but it was not the one he was looking for. One day, Shen Luo and Wu Julan were ambushed on their way home. They were bound and taken to the rooftop of a building.

The kidnappers presented a chilling choice: only one of them could live. To the kidnappers' surprise, both Wu Julan and Shen Luo valiantly offered to sacrifice themselves for the other. Shen Luo managed to find an opportunity to escape and pulled Wu Julan with her from the room, only to realize they were on a high rooftop. Just as Shen Luo despaired, Wu Julan abruptly picked her up and leaped off the building.

Shen Luo tightly shut her eyes in fear. They landed unharmed, but the kidnappers immediately pursued them. As Shen Luo prepared to run, the kidnappers called out, revealing themselves to be Grandpa and Jiang Yisheng. The entire abduction was a test of Wu Julan's feelings for Shen Luo. Impressed by Wu Julan's selfless protection of Shen Luo, Grandpa formally placed Shen Luo's hand in Wu Julan's, entrusting him with her lifelong protection.

Wu Julan solemnly promised to keep Shen Luo safe for as long as he lived. After the ordeal, Shen Luo felt a deeper connection with Wu Julan and suggested they become friends. Wu Julan, who believed humans were deceitful and self-serving, was puzzled by the idea of friendship. Shen Luo explained that friendship brings companionship, a confidant, and someone to miss, which she considered a source of happiness. Wu Julan pondered her words.

As Shen Luo and Wu Julan approached their small courtyard, Wu Julan's acute senses detected someone inside. It was Zhou Buwen, who was ransacking Shen Luo's house in search of the silver box for Boss An. Wu Julan quickly pushed open the door, revealing the messy interior. Shen Luo checked around and found that nothing was missing. Shortly after, Jiang Yisheng and Zhou Buwen arrived, feigning concern and asking about the burglary.

Wu Julan fixed his gaze on Zhou Buwen, stating that the intruder wasn't after money but something specific, causing Zhou Buwen to nervously avoid his eyes. The following day, the Village Chief stopped Shen Luo to inform her that the island was partnering with a tourism company for an event. They needed an image ambassador to dress as a mermaid.

Shen Luo immediately refused after seeing the mermaid costume, which was quite revealing, with only a small amount of fabric covering the chest. However, upon hearing about the 5,000 yuan prize money, she began to reconsider.
