The Prisoner of Beauty Episode 15 Recap
> The Prisoner of Beauty Recap
Wei Dian pressured Wei Shao to give everyone an explanation—one was his wife, the other his cousin. Wei Shao didn’t know how to handle the situation when Madam Xu suddenly fainted. Wei Shao immediately ordered the city gates closed and forbade anyone from leaving. The matter would be investigated further. In private, Madam Xu told Wei Shao the truth about Wei Yan’s identity, helping him understand the root of their grudge with Bianzhou.
At the time, rumors had it that Wei Yan was the child of Madam Xu’s daughter Qingyun and a servant, but in truth, Qingyun had been abducted by Chen Pang of Bianzhou. When she returned, she was already pregnant. Qingyun eventually passed away in grief. To protect her family, Madam Xu claimed the child was illegitimate. Madam Xu also noticed that Wei Yan had changed upon his return—he must have learned the truth.
She hoped Wei Shao would find a way to protect Wei Yan without anyone getting hurt. Wei Shao later sought out Wei Yan, who was playing hide and seek with a group of wine girls. Angrily, Wei Shao drove them away and scolded Wei Yan for not visiting their grandmother or trying to prove his innocence. Wei Yan felt sorrowful, knowing both Wei Shao and Madam Xu suspected him, and realized Madam Xu must be faking illness to protect him.
This only confirmed that they’d rather trust the Qiao family than him. Wei Shao asked directly whether Wei Yan had been to Bianzhou. Wei Yan’s reaction confirmed to Wei Shao that he indeed knew the truth about his origin. Still, Wei Shao emphasized that no matter what, Wei Yan was his elder brother. Anticipating future suspicion, Wei Yan deliberately confessed to being the culprit. Su Ehuang and Su Zixin were in their room, feeling triumphant.
Though their actions were full of flaws, Su Ehuang knew Wei Shao’s nature well—ruthless outwardly but deeply protective of his family. If the case involved someone close to him, he wouldn’t pursue it further. Wei Shao had soldiers watch over Xiao Qiao’s residence day and night. According to Wei law, they could be executed for this. Chun Niang was anxious day and night, but Xiao Tao comforted her, believing it wouldn't come to that.
Xiao Qiao herself was completely unbothered, repeatedly thinking of how Wei Shao had defended her in the grand hall. While Xiao Tao and Chun Niang were organizing the wardrobe, they found a bracelet identical to the one given to Madam Xu. Xiao Qiao suddenly recalled that Wei Shao had visited her before and brought a box identical to the one now found—he hadn’t opened it.
She realized that even if the bracelet was missing, she had nothing to worry about, for Wei Shao had been silently protecting her all along. So she deliberately wrote a family letter and had Wei Qu intercept and deliver it to Wei Shao. Wei Shao was initially angry that Xiao Qiao would send a letter at such a critical time, but upon opening it, he realized it was addressed to him.
Xiao Qiao expressed that regardless of the outcome regarding the wheat seeds, she would never blame Wei Shao. Wei Shao had someone reply, saying they would speak in person tomorrow, and ordered a thorough investigation. Wei Shao personally led the team to weigh the wheat seeds and discovered they were indeed different from what had been collected earlier, clearing Xiao Qiao of suspicion. But this also indicated it was Wei Yan’s doing.
Wei Dian took the lead in demanding punishment for Wei Yan, but Wei Shao believed in Wei Yan’s innocence and insisted the investigation continue. Until the matter was fully resolved, no one was allowed to leave Yu County. To stop Wei Shao from uncovering the truth, Su Zixin sent someone to kill Zheng Chuyu. Xiao Qiao kept waiting for Wei Shao to return, and when they met, both smiled.
Wei Shao felt for Xiao Qiao—anyone else would’ve been eager to clear their name, but she thought only of him. Xiao Qiao said that Wei Shao’s public defense of her proved he believed in her innocence, and she wouldn’t make things difficult for him. As Xiao Qiao saw him off, she accidentally called him “husband,” which delighted Wei Shao. The investigation soon led to Zheng Chuyu. They found out she had been to the granary, but she was already dead.
Wei Shao ordered the investigation to continue. Later, he asked Gongsun Yang how he addressed his master’s wife at home, and learned she was called “Madam. ” Wei Shao planned to change the way he addressed Xiao Qiao accordingly. Su Ehuang used the excuse of taking care of Chen Xiang’s health to try to leave Yu County, but was stopped by Wei Liang at the city gate. No one was allowed to leave until the matter was resolved.
She then went to see Madam Wei. At that time, Madam Wei had just learned of Zheng Chuyu’s death and that she had been murdered. Su Ehuang deliberately frightened her, implying the incident could implicate Wei Shao. Madam Wei, terrified her son might be dragged into the scandal, remembered Madam Xu’s words and feared bringing harm to those close to her.
She stepped forward and publicly admitted that she had ordered Zheng Chuyu to switch the wheat seeds at the granary to get back at Xiao Qiao for always targeting her. The case thus shifted from an official matter to an internal family dispute. Wei Shao had no choice but to hand over his mother to Madam Xu for punishment. All the birthday guests were allowed to leave. Su Ehuang, though unsuccessful, was relieved to walk away unharmed.
On the road, Wei Yan stopped Su Ehuang, warning her not to stir up trouble anymore—his grandmother didn’t want to see her, and he didn’t want Madam Xu to recall painful memories. Su Ehuang sowed discord by reminding him that he wasn’t truly a Wei family member, and that he was only fooling himself by thinking otherwise. From then on, Wei Yan avoided seeing the Wei family.
Wei Shao came to ask him to visit Madam Xu, but Wei Yan refused to meet. Wei Yan’s subordinates further incited him, persuading him to return to Bianzhou. Wei Shao was deeply troubled by the situation with Wei Yan. He knew Wei Yan was the one most hurt, and Madam Xu missed him dearly. Xiao Qiao worried that Chen Pang would eventually reunite with Wei Yan, and if the truth wasn’t clarified, Wei Yan might leave.
She believed her situation was similar to his and might be able to persuade him to see their grandmother. At the same time, Xiao Qiao had been studying irrigation and brought her organized materials for Wei Shao to review. As he leaned over her shoulder to better read the bamboo slips, Xiao Qiao became momentarily lost in his face. When Wei Yan was dancing with the wine girls, he suddenly saw Xiao Qiao. Pushing through the crowd, he approached her.
Xiao Qiao saw the trouble in his heart and, from her own experience, told him that whether someone is family or not isn't defined by blood alone. When she first came to Yu County, no one accepted her as a female lord—they all thought she was just a descendant of the Qiao family. But now, she had gained everyone’s trust and earned their grandmother’s affection.
If she had denied her identity with the Qiao family, Wei Shao would surely despise her. As long as she was honest with Wei Shao, they could trust each other. Xiao Qiao told Wei Yan that their grandmother had fallen ill because of him. Madam Xu had always loved him, and he still cared for her. She told him that what Madam Xu feared most was that he’d grow distant and never visit her again.
Moved by Xiao Qiao’s words, Wei Yan stumbled into Madam Xu’s room, calling for her. Seeing she was fine, he realized Xiao Qiao had tricked him and turned to leave. Madam Xu tearfully called out to him, asking if he really didn’t want to see his grandmother ever again.
